To establish one's own business is not an easy task, why is it not an easy task, it's not meant for lazy people. You must be ready to face challenges, hurdles, setbacks and the likes but with commitment, persistent, consistency, patience, you will make it.

Below are the steps to take to establish your own successful business.

STAGE 1

• You must have a business in mind: Before you can set up a self business, before you can be a sole proprietorship, you must have a niche you want to work on, i.e the kind of business you wish to set up must be on your mind.

• Have passion for the business: You can't just set up a business and expect it to grow without passion. The reason why many set up a business and fail is because they only have interest and not passion. When you have interest in a business, you may loose the interest on the way going, but when you have passion for your business, you will stay committed to go through thick and thin.

• Make a research: You must make research on your business niche to learn from successors experience. The problem with so many sole proprietorship is that they don't make research before starting up a business. Every business is lucrative it only depends on how you build it. Before you start up a business make research on those that have done that business before, how do they excel during hard times, how did they succeed during the time of hurdles. Look out for possible problems that is liable to evolve in your business and how to find a solution to it before starting. Two heads are far better than one, you can consult to make the task easier.

• Focus on the passion and not the ration: This is the area where fear comes in. Look at fear in the face and take it on. When most people want to set up a business and they find out that there are so many people on the queue in the market that they are to sell the product of their business, they retract immediately. Don't think that way, not all of them have the passion for it what depends is your own creativity, you must learn to stand out. So don't think because too much of investors are in a particular business of your choice, you will not go for it, once you realize that you have passion for it and not interest, please fight for it. • Have a long-term plan: If you set up a business with out a plan on ground, you will fail. A stranger that hasn't been to Lagos before and heads for it without a roadmap will go astray. Let your business have a roadmap. A long-term one but start with little plans, You take baby steps before taking giant strides. Don't expect your business to boom over night. After setting your long-term goals, start from the scratch and aim for the bigger.

• Be ready to take risk: There is nothing you do in life that doesn't requires taking risks, to love is to risk hatred, to live is to risk death, to hope is to risk despair, to succeed is to risk failure. But do all in your best to make it risks free. You must be ready to bear loss as a sole proprietorship as well as the profit. Taking risks doesn't mean your business may fail, you are going to succeed if you keep going, but what I mean is that you may loose at the beginning.

If you have read the stage one of how to set up a business, you can proceed to stage two, but if you haven't, please you are free to request for it because this stage is meaningless without having the concept of stage 1 in mind.

STAGE 2

INTRODUCTION

When laying the foundation of a house, the builders only sees because the land has been enclosed in a fence and that's what we have done in stage 1. If you have carried out stage one, I congratulate you because you have just lay the foundation of your business.

When the building of a house commences, everybody sees it and that's what we are doing in this second stage. This stage deals with bringing your dream to reality as a product.

Steps to take to finally bring your dream into reality

• LOCALITY: Locality is the environment where you intend to situate your business. The area where you situate your business can really affect your business either positive or negative. The vicinity where you situate your business can spur your incentive to continue the business so as it can destroy your vision to close that business down.

A coffee seller can't open a shop in a industrial Avenue, such seller will get little or no sale because everyone is at work. The best place to open a coffee shop is in a residential area, that was why we mandate it in stage 1 that you make research before setting up your business.

Don't forget, locality can destroy the dream of a business, so watch out for a good location that suites your business before you set it up. When your business is located in a wrong vicinity, you'll need to go extra mile in marketing your business.

• BUILD & UPGRADE YOUR BUSINESS: In life, everything is stratified and deals with stages, the world consist of layers. If you elude a stage while setting up your business, there will be a crack on the wall. Your business is like a house, you lay the foundation before you start the building. This stage two deals with the building of your business but that's not what I mean.

What I meant is that after building your dream using this steps on stage 2, don't relent. Renovate and refurbish your business. Don't let your business become a business of the past, upgrade your business daily.

You must know what to add and remove from your business as you go on in life. People are not concern with what you did yesterday, they are concerned with what you are doing to day. As we have said that you should start small and aim big in stage 1, so as it is here, you have started the business small by leaping it into reality, then the next thing is to focus on how to achieve that big goal.

• MARKET YOUR BUSINESS: This is the power house of your business. After you have gotten a suitable location for your business, the next thing that can improve your sale is marketing. Before you can make great sale in your business, you must have marketing strategy else, your business will suffer.

You can't build a house and expect people to come an lease it without making them aware, you must voice out to people before they can patronize you.

There are two things you market in business, they are:

• Brand
• Product

Brand and product are two different things but they go hand in hand. Though, product is very powerful but brand is important. Your brand is powerful in the sense that it attracts and drives customer to your business. Your brand is also powerful in the sense that, they will see it before they see your product.

Where brand and product meet is market. Brand advertise your product and product sells your business. Brand does not guarantee you will have great sale, if you have good brand and your product is not up to standard. You may not sell at all or rather sell a little.

You are totally good to go if you're able to get yourself a good brand and product. I can guarantee that you will have the best sales of your product.

The two things to put in place for your brand and product to count

• BRAND: As a sole proprietorship you must be creative to get yourself a good brand. Creativity is your brand and if you are not creative minded, you can never get yourself a good brand, or you might need to hire a creative thinker. The marketing strategy that builds your brand is creativity.

Brand is a name, symbol, logo, or other item used to distinguish a product or service, or its provider.

In a competitive market, your brand is what makes you stands out, if you have alike brand with the brand of your competitors, it will be very difficult to make sale.

Work on the brand of your business, make it captivating. If I will tell you, creativity can't sell your product, it can only attract people to your business. See product for more elucidation.

• PRODUCT: Your product is your business, your brand only attract customers and it doesn't guarantees your sale. If people patronize your business just because of your brand and they get to find out that your product is bad, you are harming your business.

What you need to do for your product to be perfect is to have a product of high quality. If your product is low in quality, people may only patronize you once and never come back again, in spite of that, they will speak bad about your product and with this you are deteriorating your future goal.

Don't just bring up a product, bring up a product of high quality that will differentiate you from other competitors in the money market. The marketing strategy here is quality.

• PATIENCE: I'll be very brief on this. When you have achieved everything above, please I urge you to be patient as everything is working together for your good, you may not get all the sales in a day, but once you have done your part. Leave others to your effort and you will reap the fruit of your labour.

CONCLUSION
I will also like to chip in this, if you realize that you don't have the required cash to brand your business but you have a product of high quality and you aren't getting any sales yet.

The secret thing you need to do in place of brand is to use a marketing strategy called TECHNIQUE. I will explain this with a story of me and a friend.

[b]“A friend of mine came to me to seek advice on his product, he told me that he intends to open a café but there are so many competitors within his catchment area. I suggested he beautifies his bar to attract customers but he said he has limited cash on him to cover that, I then suggested another technique to use because there is always light at the end of the tunnel. The strategy I asked him to pull in was to range the price all other café sells their coffee and he should bit his own price down to a certain amount that would attract customers into his dream business. When he tried that, customers began to switch to his café just because his coffee was of low price compared to others. The interesting part was that, people cherished the taste of his coffee and with time, he began to increase his sales price to even more than the price his competitor sells. By then, his customers couldn’t switch to another café any longer because of his coffee taste. My friend now owns a mega café at a big city in Nigeria.”[/b]

We are aware that the country's dam of young and fresh graduates has been opened again, the government has released thousands of graduates to the street without the thought of increasing the notch of job employment rate in the country.

The rate of unemployed graduates is increasing drastically in the country while the rate of job opportunities is hitting the level of colossal decline. However, it is very apparent that the government is not ready to bear the burden of any graduate any longer which is a proverb to all and sundry that they should use their hand to work for food to get to their table.

With the hush of the government over education in Nigeria, it is obvious that they have no concern about what's going on in the education sector. They have been pulling wools across our face for the past years, beguiling our parent/guardian. Though we're not fools, but we're fools when we fail to show to them that our future accomplishment doesn't lie in their hand but in the power to bring our dreams into reality.

I want you to know that the government is not your problem if not you, you failed to put on the table food for yourself just because you were too dependable on the certificate you were looking up to, you go about under the scorching sun searching for job just because you have invested to much of your trust on the government. But I tell you, if you can think deeply, if peradventure you can use your critical thinking and level of insight, there's a way you can get back from this country with it's current situation.

The most happiest man on earth is the man that expects nothing, the government can turn you you down but i tell you, your dream can never turn you down if you keep forging ahead, I guarantee you a secured future if you can break free every mountains of hurdles that lies in your dream.

Focus on your dream right from your day one on campus and you'll see yourself graduate as an institution, invest more of your hope in your talent and you'll see yourself graduate as a company and not a mere student. The future belongs to those that believe in the beauty of their dream.
Many had discovered their dream but they failed to leap it into reality just because of fear to fail at the end but you will be surprised to see the government turn you down on that certificate you have invested your hope in. What will your life after school look like? There's more hope in your dream than your certificate. Make a research today on how the cofounder of Facebook, the founder of Microsoft and more successful entrepreneurs made it to the top today. I challenge you today, what's your excuse?

Of what use is your certificate when the course you applied for is different from what you were been offered at your respective institutions. Whereas, just because you had no choice, you had to accept fate and take it on. Many are in higher institution studying irrelevant courses that is not inclined with their dreams just because of circumstances and yet they still depend solely on it.

Your passion for your dream guarantees your future success story, you can never succeed in what you don't have passion for because nothing comes for free, everything calls for sacrifice. Change your thinking today and believe in your dream, you are not to small to achieve that big dream, don't limit your self, don't devalue your standard. You can secure your future even before you graduate. It takes nothing to be a failure, it takes nothing to be at the level of the ground, but it calls for everything in you to be successful in life.

Will you be happy to attend your convocation ceremony on that special day? Will you feel achieved when others are dragging their feet on the street searching for vacancies? Nobody wants to loose his/her job in this situation we're in Nigeria currently because they are aware of the adverse rate of unemployment, so they will do everything in their capacity to retain themselves in that sit till they have an headway.

What do you want your story to look like after school? Do you want people to reference you or you want to Reference people. Do you want to remain a spectator or you want to be In action on the field. The choice is in your hand, the ball is all in your court. The president of Nigeria is not the cause of your failure, all you need is to change your monopolistic thoughts.

Stop wandering about what your future would look like, start planning for it because nobody has the leverage to control your future except you. You have a dream that is attached to your future, discover it, build on it, brand it and showcase it to the world. I tell you, you're going to wake up one day and discover you are 60, what would be your story by then? Will you feel accomplished?
