Shape 3 Dynamic Active Extroverted You are quite willing to accept certain risks and to make a strong committment in exchange for interesting and varied work. Routine, in contrast, tends to have a paralyzing effect on you. What you like most is to be able to play an active role in events. In doing so, your initiative is highly pronounced. |
Nigeria: Landlord sets six youths ablaze for smoking hemp Posted On : August 8th, 2013 | Updated On : August 8th, 2013 3 Seteolu, Sodeinde and the house The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, Mukaila Adebesin, for allegedly setting ablaze six people in Ita Balogun Compund, Ago-Oko, Abeokuta. The victims are Adesanya, 20, Sulaiman Adebesin, 20, Saburi Seteolu 18, Raheem Bello 19, Azeez Alabi 20, and Kola Sodeinde 19. It was gathered that the victims were allegedly set ablaze by Adebesin at 7pm because they were gambling and smoking Indian hemp on his premises. A witness, who pleaded anonymity, said Adebesin, a commercial bus driver, had just returned from an outing when he saw the six youths in his compound. He said, “Their activities made the driver engage them in an argument. As the talks became heated, Adebesin reached for a can of petrol which he emptied on them. “The victims attempted to flee when it dawned on them that the liquid poured on them was petrol. “But they caught fire from a stick of the Indian hemp being smoked by one of them. They suffered high degree burns due to the incident.” Adebesin, who is currently being detained at Oke-Itoku Police Station, was said to have turned himself in to the police immediately after the incident . Our correspondent gathered that other youths in the area, on learning of the development, stormed Adebesin’s compound, and vandalised his apartment and injured his wife who is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abeokuta. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that investigations had already commenced into the matter. Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, “Adebesin might be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations. He said four of the youths had been admitted at the General Hospital, Ijaiye, while two others were taken to a private clinic for treatment. “Information available to us is that the suspect had an argument with the youths before he poured PMS on them. For now, we cannot ascertain other circumstances that led to the incident but we have the suspect in our custody.” The police spokesman added that the command’s commissioner, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, also warned youths in the area not to engage in any reprisals, saying the police would not condone any act that could disrupt peace inthe state. on August 06, 2013 at 11:51 am in News KANO (AFP) – Gunfire and explosions shook one northeastern Nigerian town Tuesday while soldiers slapped a round-the-clock curfew on another in the region hit by waves of insurgent attacks, the military and residents said. Clashes broke out in the town of Gamboru Ngala on the border with Cameroon on Monday night and continued on Tuesday, a resident said. The military had not commented on the situation there and details remained unclear. Meanwhile, a round-the-clock curfew was imposed on the city of Potiskum and soldiers carried out house-to-house searches. The military did not say why it moved to suddenly impose the curfew in Potiskum or provide other details. The operation came ahead of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday which follows the fasting month of Ramadan. The situations in the two towns did not appear to be linked as they are located hundreds of kilometres apart in Africa’s most populous nation. In Gamboru Ngala, one resident said the fighting began after someone who runs errands for immigration officers was shot and wounded. “We have been bombarded with explosions and sounds of gunfire since yesterday evening,” the resident said. Residents over the border in Cameroon also reported hearing gunshots. In Potiskum, residents said soldiers were conducting house-to-house searches in two neighbourhoods and word had spread in the town that troops were looking for high-profile members of Islamist extremist group Boko Haram. “The Joint Task Force announces the imposition of a 24-hour curfew commencing from today,” a military statement said late Monday. “Residents of Potiskum town are enjoined to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by remaining indoors until the curfew is lifted.” It gave no indication of how long the curfew would remain in place. Nigeria will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Thursday and Friday. “I have been able to contact some people in other parts of town and from what I gathered there is a huge military deployment in town and that house-to-house searches have begun in two areas,” resident Kabiru Ahmed said. Another resident provided a similar account. The clashes and military operation came in the wake of fighting in two other northeastern towns on Sunday that left at least 35 people dead, most of them insurgents, according to the military. Those clashes broke out in the towns of Bama and Malam Fatori and were triggered by attacks on soldiers and a police station, the military said. Nigeria’s northeast is currently under a state of emergency as the military pursues an offensive seeking to end Boko Haram’s four-year insurgency. The insurgency is estimated to have claimed more than 3,600 lives since 2009, including killings by the security forces. |
Nigeria adds 10 million mobile data users in a month By Mary Lennighan, Total Telecom Tuesday 06 August 2013 MTN claims 50%-plus market share of active mobile data users in Nigeria. 10 million Nigerians became mobile data users in June, according to new figures from the country's regulator, which show that MTN leads the market by some way. Nigeria was home to 57.7 million mobile data subscriptions in June, of which 48.3 million were active, the Nigerian Communications Commission's (NCC's) latest numbers show, as reported by national newspaper This Day. A month earlier there were 38.3 million active mobile data users out of a total base of 44.6 million. That 10 million increase in the number of active users over the course of just one month suggests the number of mobile data subscriptions will treble before the end of the year, Tony Ojobo, director of public affairs at the NCC told This Day. By way of comparison, voice subscribers in the country currently stand at 117 million. Nigeria's biggest mobile operator MTN unsurprisingly has the biggest share of the active data subscriptions with 24.5 million, or 50.7% of the total. There is little to pick between Airtel and Globacom, with 9.2 million and 9.1 million data subscriptions respectively, while Etisalat's 5.1 million data subs put it in fourth place. Nigeria's handful of CDMA operators have fewer than 200,000 data subscribers between them. According to the newspaper, Ojobo attributed the increase in data subscriptions to rising smartphone penetration, especially among young people, and to the growth in online activity in general; Nigerians are increasingly shopping online and the number of government activities available via the Internet is also growing. |
Nollywood Sexiest: The top 20: how they stand on August 03, 2013 at 1:08 am in Home Video People As we come to the next phase in the quest for the Sexiest Woman and Man in Nollywood, it is pertinent to give the picture of how each star has fared so far. There are 20 men and 20 women still standing and ready to battle it out until the last man and woman standing. However, popular opinion that held this week is that we should keep all the contesting stars still in the quest while do an exposé of how they truly stand. Despite the position of the committee that the number of votes of each contesting star should not be published, popular opinion that the voters should know where their stars stand, has won through for this week. Thus for the men; the countdown begins with O.C. Ukeje at 20th position, Pat Attah at 19th, Kalu Ikeagwu at 18th, Emeka Enyiocha at 17th and Sunkanmi Omobolanle at 16th place. Alex Ekubo who, just awhile ago, looked like dropping from the quest sits at 15th place, followed by Odunlade Adekola at 14th, Chigozie has moved up tremendously to 13th with Mike Ezuruonye and Uti Nwachukwu at 12th and 11th places. The top ten begins with with Ali Nuhu at 10th, Michel Majid at 9th, Benjamin Joseph at 8th, Pope Odowondo Jnr at 7th and Frank Artus at 6th. The last five standing now have Benson Okonkwo at number 5, John Dumelo at 4th, Van Vicker at 3rd and Ramsey Nouah taking up the 2nd position. The man at the top is Yul Edochie and he has remained so for several weeks with a bit of unreserved smugness. For the women, Anita Joseph is at the bottom of the leader at 20th, Chika Agwu at 19th, Biodun Okeowo at 18th, Queen Nwokoye at 17th and Angela Okorie making up the last rung at 16th. Chika Agatha, who was formerly a strong contender has slumped to 15th place, joining Maureen Cyril at 14th, Cynthia Agholor at 13th, Yvonne Okoro, who was drawn for eviction a couple of weeks ago at 12th and Amanda Ebeye takes the 11th spot. Top ten starts with Colette Orji at 10th place, Queeneth Hilbert at 9th, Jackie Appiah at 8th, Uche Jombo at 7th and Nadia Buari at 6th. The final row making up the top 5 begins with Rita Dominic at 5th, Ebube Nwagbo at 4th, Yvonne Nelson at 3rd and Stephanie Okereke at 2nd place. The leading lady running the show is now Tonto Dikeh at first position. Although there has been a bit of ding-dong, see-saw tussle between her and Stephanie for weeks but as at the last count Tonto Dikeh is a head and shoulder ahead. However, it is important to note that some stars are running rather neck to neck that a slight push here or there could just upset the scale of things as it is. This is the picture as at the end of last week’s voting: it wasn’t like that a week before and it is a safe bet it won’t be so next week when some other stars may have to make their way out of the quest. Keep voting![img][/img] |

19 nabbed over Ashaka police station attack on July 30, 2013 at 12:45 am in News BY AUSTIN OGWUDA ASABA —DELTA State Police Public Relations, PPRO, Mr. Lucky Uyabeme, said yesterday that investigation was in top gear to ascertain the involvement of 19 persons so far arrested in connection with the mob attack on Ashaka police station, last week. It was not clear whether the mob stole arms and ammunition from the station during the attack as the PPRO kept sealed lips on that. He, however, told Vanguard in Asaba that “we are interrogating those arrested. So far, I think we have 19 of them. A thorough screening is on to ascertain their involvement, we will not hesitate to arraign them in court as soon as possible.” A mob numbering over 200 had, last Wednesday, sacked the Ashaka Police Station in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state in protest against the death of a young man who got drowned in the river as police raided some hemp joints. The incident took place when a combined team of policemen and anti-cult group from the community carried out an early morning raid at some hideouts where cannabis are sold. |
