We need stop the same old practice that leads to low profit and embrace the new and professional way of doing Good. Keep on the selfless service. |
@ boss soft777, you are appreciated for your assistance on this thread. It would be very great if every info is dropped here. Kindly understand for the benefit of all. You can even work it out by listing the amount of kg to be used from each source e.g cheapest source of animal protein- 30kg, cheapest source of plant protein- 20kg, cheapest source of energy- 50kg |
[quote author=soft777 post=40888113]One and half liter of fish oil is ok for 100 kg feed and 30 kg blood meal is also ok for 100 kg feed. It is not possible to give a feed formula that is economical in all the regions of the country, an economical formula in the west may not be economical in the south or north ,what i do for people who contact me via whatsapp is, i tell them to go to the local feed ingredients market ,get the most cheapest price of ingredients, and i wor I would appreciate if you could work out a formula based on the latest price list posted by pumppie. Abattoir @ Agege is well known to Lagos farmers, I believe that would serve farmers in Lagos and other zones could also post price list from their area. This would be great if done here because not everyone would ve access to whatsapp. |
[quote author=soft777 post=40849169]Thank you for the correction t was actually a typing error wanted to write 450 thank you. Though the calculation remains the same , because we did not use fish meal in my calculation analysis , i also gave range of ingredients you can choose from that is more or relatively cheaper in your locality , Now to blood , many people have misunderstand or miss use this cheap but very effective ingredient . Blood meal is used all a Kudos to you for the great info you always drop here. Concerning the use of 25 - 30kg blood meal, could you please drop the measurement of fish oil that would match up with that amount of blood meal per 100kg feed? Also, it would be great if you could drop a typical feed formula for starter and finisher including the average weight based on your experience. I believe this would be a good guide to any beginner. Thanks |
[quote author=pumppie post=40839389]Sorry guys, i was saying fish meal don't come cheap even local ones. Except many years back when I get crumbs of fish and crayfish from sellers in oyingbo for free. But now, most of dem know they cash in on it so they already have feed mills they sell to. This is what u buy as local fish meal in some feed mill. And its never sold for #140! But if u can have access to that, great! However, many studies have found totally substituting fish meal with plant protein like soya Hello, pls I would love to ask you some questions. What amount of blood meal do you consider as safe in a 100kg feed and what amount of fish oil can be used to make it attracting/palatable? Also, would appreciate if you can share the complete formula you use if you substitute for fish meal. And what is your average weight achieved at harvest? I would appreciate your sincere response. Thanks |
robonski15:Thanks for the prompt response. Their water is clean enough to see the floor of the pond. |
My regards to the bosses and members. Pls, what can be done if broodstocks suddenly stop feeding? |
chilanfarms:Noted. Thanks |
@ ajoo17 and atanda2001uk, I hope I have been able to provide necessary adjustments as requested. My sincere apology. Just wants us to share ideas on feed formulas that meet catfish diet. I am looking forward to seeing formulas that have been tested and trusted with good results. |
Oga Ab1x, its been a while, I hope you are doing great? I would like you to please review this formula; finisher for catfish of 4 months and above Fish meal (72%) 10kg Blood meal 6kg Soybean meal 20 kg Groundnut cake 15kg Broiler starter 25kg Flour 9kg Biscuit 10kg Molasses 5kg Lysine 0.1kg Premix 0.5kg DCP 1kg Methionine 0.2kg Anyone who is interested in feed formulation can also drop comment/review on this formula. Besides, I would appreciate if gurus and members alike in the house can drop various feed formula and lets learn new ideas. Regards. |
Please, what's going on in the house? Can we please not go off track. Bosses, where are you all? |
Sudirnge1:You're welcome ma'am. |
ab1x:Our honourable HOD has spoken. I hail you boss! |
Sudirnge1:Ha! Boss! we're all learning o. To answer your question, do you mill your feed yourself? If not, your miller would use another binding agent. Besides, you can do without it. |
Sudirnge1:Molasses is a binding agent, anti-dust agent and palatability enhancer. It's also a source of energy. By implication, the feed will not stick together during the pelleting process thereby making the pellets break down during transportation or handling and there will be more dust in the feed. Also, the diet may not be balanced if it's expected to serve as source of energy in the diet. |
[quote author=manya post=38874571]I greet all the Gurus in the house. My question to Teepompey, ab1x and others. please i want to start formulating my feed considering the high cost of fish feed nowadays and the ingredients are no issues to me as i have them in abundance (I farm most of them except fish meal). My problem is the machine to use and the problem of making it float. I have been browsing to find out which machine will be suitable and at affordable price. but i just cant buy a machine without I guess you mean milling your own feeds. I'm sorry I also do not know about the machineries but I'm very sure our bosses- Robonski and Ab1x would provide solution to the problem. |
Sudirnge1:It helps boost their immune system, support normal growth and development. |
ab1x:Fine. I believe the supplements should be able to cover some of these deficiencies arising from certain ingredients. For instance, lysine is meant to aid feed digestion. Also, I think there are different types of premix, I believe there is a finisher premix. |
[quote author=ab1x post=38834828]Both can be combine in a formula. It does not have any demerit. There is no clear ingredient that can boost the weight of fish as there is no shortcut to anywhere. A healthy fish that eats balance diet will have weight. In Nigeria, we eat a lot of carbohydrates like Eba, fufu, rice etc that does not implies that the strongest person or the world most weighted person is in Africa . lol ![]() Thus, you need to give fish feed that can easily digest (balance diet) True yarn! But talking on PKC, are you aware it's contained in broiler starter feed formula? |
[quote author=ab1x post=38826526]The fact is, there are many ingredients in feed formulation however the most important one is fish meal and it is constant. Blood meal is fine but you can't use blood meal to replace fish meal but they can both be included in feed formulation. However, the problem with blood meal is that it can easily infect your fish with disease. Research has shown that the process which they go through to process it is unhygienic and as such they are easily prone to disease. It i Thanks boss for this great piece. I would love to know what you think about combining maize and whole wheat together. If you check the formula for broilers starter, maize carries the largest percentage followed by wheat offal. I would appreciate if you can point out ingredients that enhance exceptional weight gain and that which enhance fatness based on your personal experience. Thanks for your selfless service. You're highly appreciated. |
ayosat:Thanks for the comment boss. Noted. |
I'm looking forward to seeing members drop formulas that they have tried and which gave them not just good but great result. Oga ab1x said he doesn't have stable formula as he tries new ideas. There are lots of ingredients that one can use in feed formulation but some are not been presented here. I will like the house and gurus to discuss on special ingredients used in feed formulation. We have classes: animal protein, plant protein, energy sources and supplements. Fish meal, blood meal, bone meal, ground nut cake(GNC), soya, soybean meal(SBM), full fat soya, peanut, maize, whole wheat, wheat offal, rice bran, animal fat, fish oil, egusi, flour, biscuit, indomie, gala, etc. |
Palm oil can be applied to newly pumped water in the pond to clear off foam-like substance in the pond. Its good for fish cos in no time, you would be unable to find the oil in the pond. Its a source of energy. |
Findings show that animal proteins can be partly replaced or substituted by plant proteins without affecting growth and feed efficiency. This would reduce cost of production and one would agree that this is the reason why feeds with less protein are not as expensive as the protein rich feeds. Also, role of supplements like methionine and lysine cannot be overlooked as they also aid fast growth. |
Animal protein used in catfish are fish meal, meat and bone meal, blood meal, etc. Plant proteins used in catfish are oilseed meals such as soybean meal, etc Animal proteins are generally considered to be higher quality than plant protein. It must be noted that animal protein is essential in the diet of fry and small fingerlings. And that is why our bosses here have always advice we use protein rich feeds at this stage. Moreover, fish meal does not appear to be essential in the diet of catfish after they reach a size of 6-7 inches. |
Anyone feeding fish must be observant cos its possible they may not be eating and the feed would just be settling down in the pond which would become waste but as long as they feed on, there shouldn't be any cause for alarm. Early stage of catfish is paramount as it would determine their outcome as time goes on. I stand to be corrected in my opinion. With findings, there is no harm in feeding fingerlings many times a day as long as they feed on. This early stage of catfish is the period where animal protein is essential in their diet. |
