A Nigerian airline has left its passengers in distress after ‘mistakenly’ landing in Asaba airport instead of Abuja where passengers booked.

A Twitter user @dawisu who disclosed this called out the airline for carelessness and wasting the time of its customers.

According to the passenger, the flight left Lagos State for Abuja only to land in Asaba as a result of a wrong flight plan handed to the pilot.


Sharing a picture of the passengers clearly infuriated, the Nigerian man mocked the airline for probably landing them in another state as the flight took off a second time.

“Nigeria my country. We departed Lagos about an hour ago on @flyunitedng to Abuja, and upon arrival, the cabin crew confidently announced that we’ve arrived Abuja, only for us to realize that we landed in Asaba. Apparently, our pilot was given wrong flight plan from Lagos 🤣🙆‍♂️.

We are departing Asaba now, I pray we don’t land in Osogbo next! 🤣🙆‍♂️,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the development has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Miss Subair Enitan, a 200 level student in the Department of Linguistics and African Languages at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, began a 50-hour hand wash-a-thon aiming to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) on Friday, November 24.

The Guinness World Record fixed November 24, 2023 for the attempt of wash-a-thon in Ile-Ife after she notified them of her intention in June 2023.

Before she officially start washing cloths, Enitan had boasted that she would finish strong as title holder of longest hand washing hours after completing 50 hours on Sunday.

She said: “My background motivated me to embark on this wash-a-thon and the lessons life has taught me. The experience is unexplainable but it taught me to be selfless. I am confident that I will reach the set goal of 50 hours of hand wash and by God’s grace I will emerge victorious.

“Despite the massive support from my colleagues here, I pray for the grace of God. I will end this wash-a-thon on Sunday. I am setting the record, I can’t lose because nobody has done it before, so if I do it for 5 minutes, I have set the record. My parents are very supportive, I urge Nigerians to rally round me while I do the washing for 50 hours.”

The Student Union president, Abbas Akinremi-Ojo disclosed that needed supports including provision of ambulance, lighting, water among other logistics have been put in place to ensure she win the challenge.

The management of OAU through the Dean, Students Affairs, Professor John Odedire said school is ready to give all what it takes to ensure that she clinch the record.

The naira has crashed against the dollar on Thursday.

According to Punch, the Nigerian currency exchanged N956/$ on the official Investor and Exporter forex window as dollar supply declined by 46.77 per cent.

This is a 13.78 per cent decline from the N840.53/$ the naira closed trading on Wednesday according to data from the FMDQ Securities Exchange. Also, the turnover of dollars traded in the market fell to $105.50m from $198.21m on Wednesday.

The naira began trading at N800.90/$ for the day before hitting a high of N1136/$ and N615/$ within the day.

It eventually closed trading at N956.33/$.

The instability of the naira has persisted despite recent moves by the Central Bank to clear the backlog of foreign exchange forward contracts. The naira is one of the worst-performing currencies in the world, losing about 40 per cent of its value since June, the World Bank recently disclosed.

Recently, the Economic Intelligence Unit, the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, disclosed that the CBN does not have the required firepower to clear the backlog of foreign exchange orders. This is expected to continue to put pressure on the naira.

It stated, “In Nigeria, an unsupportive monetary policy implies that the naira will remain under pressure, while the central bank lacks the firepower to adequately supply the market or clear a backlog of foreign exchange orders, which will keep foreign investors unnerved. High inflation and a continued spread with the parallel market will leave the exchange rate regime unstable and result in periodic devaluations.

Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, on Thursday following a petition filed by her pastor, Prophet Adegoke Jeremiah.

Chef Dammy was arrested and interrogated by operatives of the Police AIG Zone 17 in Akure.

Speaking on the development, the spokesperson for Zone 17, DSP Adeoye Hakeem, explained that the police received a petition against Chef Dammy and she was invited by the police.

Also, the Zone in a statement on Social Media said: “A complaint was received by the office of AIG Zone 17 via a written petition against chef Dammy.

“She was then invited for interrogation which she honoured today as she came with a female staff from the office of Her Excellency, the First Lady of Ekiti State. Dammy was later released to her as the investigation will continue.

“We assure you all that justice will be served without prejudice.”

DSP Hakeem disclosed that Dammy honoured the police invitation and was consequently granted administrative bail after providing a surety.

Chef Dammy and her pastor, popularly known as Billionaire Dollar Prophet came into the limelight when the former started her cook-a-thon ‘test run’ on 11 June and continued until 15 June, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.

The 24-year-old said it was motivated by her pastor, as many Nigerians held that her motive was to beat Hilda’s feat, confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.

However, she said it was a test run as the 120-hour cook-a-thon was to push her abilities rather than aiming to break any record.

The fallout between the chef and the cleric ensued when the young woman cried out that Billionaire Pastor should be held responsible if any harm befalls her, a statement the cleric found outrageous, which might made him seek her arrest.

Maliha Mohammed, a renowned Kenyan chef, has reportedly collapsed while attempting to break the Guinness World Records (GWR) for the longest cooking time by an individual.

In a bid to break Alan Fisher’s record, Maliha began a cook-a-thon on Wednesday, November 15 in Kenya.

Following her sudden collapse, medics stepped in and an update has now emerged about her condition.

It is learnt the the mother of two, a former Guinness record holder, began a fresh cook-a-thon on Wednesday, November 15 more than four months after she held a trial cooking marathon in Kenya.

However, after over 100 hours, she suddenly collapsed. An update on her Instagram page showed the chef is back on her feet and has now done over 114 hours of cooking (as at the time of filing the report). It remains to be seen if she will succeed at breaking Alan Fisher’s new record.


Recall Tope Maggie a Nigerian chef went 200 hours in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, between November 9 and 18, 2023. However his attempt is yet to undergo verification by GWR to confirm if he has indeed broken Alan Fisher (Ireland) record of 119 hours 57 minutes 16 seconds set on October 3.

Another report meanwhile stated before the medical emergency, Maliha had just passed the 111-hour mark.

A video on her Instagram stories shows her lying on a stretcher attended to by what appeared to be medical personnel.

In the video, she was unconscious but conveyed that the emergency wouldn’t mark the end of the challenge.

Ogbomoso -born chef, Mr Tope Adebayo also known as Tope Maggie who ended a 200-hour cooking marathon on Saturday is gathering evidence, to get the Guinness World Records (GWR) verdict on his attempt.

Spokesperson for Tope Maggie’s GWR attempt, Benjamin Orji made this known in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on Sunday.

Orji, in the statement, disclosed that Tope Maggie cooked 411 meals, both local and continental, between Thursday, November 9, at 18:31Hrs and Saturday, November 18, at 02:40Hrs.

This, he noted, meant that Tope Maggie had completed the longest cooking marathon beating Alan Fisher’s record of 119 hours, 57 minutes.

The statement read: “The project team is currently gathering all pieces of evidence required and as stipulated in the Guinness World Records so as to have their official verdict.
“The longest cooking marathon category in the Guinness World Records was attempted by Prince Tope Adebayo fondly called Chef Tope Maggie.

“The quest started on Thursday, November 9th, 2023 at 18:31Hrs. and ended on Saturday November 18th, 2023 at 02:40Hrs.

“In the course of the 200 Hours Cooking Marathon, Chef Tope Maggie cooked Four Hundred and Eleven (411) different meals, both local and continental.

“The project team appreciates Nigerians and people around the globe for the unquantified efforts and supports to Prince Tope Adebayo (Chef Tope Maggie).”

A 20-year-old man identified as David Felix has been arrested in Kaduna for killing his father.

Felix from Madakiya village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area allegedly kiled his father who he claimed appeared like a mysterious bird in his dream on September 30, 2023.

Confirming his arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of the command, ASP Mansir Hassan, said the suspect had confessed that he killed his biological father who had been appearing in his dreams as a bird with a human face, attempting to hurt him, at their residence.

According to Hassan, the suspect admitted to committing the crime and regretted his action.

“He said killed his father after waking up from sleep and used a pestle to hit him while asleep. Formal charges would be filed once the investigation concludes,” the police said

The Commissioner for Information and civic orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade led a team to the potential champion's kitchen within the premises of the Ogbomoso Recreation Club on Tuesday.

The current record holder who is an Irish chef, Alan Fisher, won the competition by cooking for 119 hours 57 minutes, few weeks ago.

He was outdone by Tope Maggie who has had marathon cooking for over 135 hours at the time of filing this report as he approaches his 200-hour mark.

Prince Dotun Oyelade who witnessed the moment Tope Maggie hit the 116th hour in the kitchen, described the attempt as remarkable demonstration of the resilient spirit of youths in Oyo State.

Prince Oyelade chatted briefly with Tope Maggie to boost his morale, after which he was offered a taste of some of the chef's meals.

He urged youths across the country, who have been rooting for Tope Maggie on social media, not to relent in sending their wishes, stressing that the global record would be a collective win.

An elated Prince Dotun Oyelade said, "this is exactly what Governor Seyi Makinde had in mind when he added 'Civic Orientation' to the Ministry of Information, galvanizing the youths; focus, hardwork and determination are all parts of the embodiment of this administration's package for the younger ones and this is the mentality that Governor Makinde adopts for his acclaimed good governance in the state."

Prince Oyelade who had known Tope Maggie from his infancy was warmly welcomed by the mother of the potential new champion, Mrs Margaret Adebayo, also known as Mama Maggie, who's also a caterer.

Tope Maggie began the journey to world fame last week Thursday at 6:31pm and is expected to meet the 200 hours by the early hours of Saturday.

Effectively, the new cuisine master has hardly slept for five days now.

The Ogun State Police Command has warned against the use of fireworks in the state.

According to the command, the use of explosives has led to sleepless nights as residents mistake it for gunshots.

The Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed in a statement on Monday, Nov. 13, in Abeokuta, that it would arrest anyone who flouts the directive.

In the statement from the state capital, Odutola, a Superintendent of Police, said: “The Ogun State Police Command is inundated with report indices coming from residents since the 1st of November 2023 especially in Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ikenne and Sango Ota, over the indiscriminate use of dangerous fireworks popularly called ‘banga’ that the deafening sound of it threatens the state of peace of mind and triggering anxiety of residents especially amid security concerns expressed by residents in Ogun State

“Following these reports of apprehension before the Ogun State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha has henceforth declared a ban on indiscriminate use of explosive fireworks in Ogun State upholding the distressing complaints from residents and the community about their inability to differentiate between gunshots and genuine fireworks, that residents have been thrown to sleepless night, constant terror from the deafening bang from these dangerous explosives.

“The Ogun State Police Command is aware that displays of fireworks is deeply ingrained in tradition as an essential preparation of the end of year celebrations. Residents are enjoined to respect the privacy and quiet of other neighbours. Sequel to the state of security, the Commissioner of Police CP Alamutu is issuing a stern warning to young persons who may want to flout this directive, does so at their peril and further warns that ‘Banga’ is criminalized as punitive sanctions will accompany deliberate violations in accordance with extant laws.”
