Sheriff's argument was about the **core Hausa-Fulani voting bloc**. Kwankwaso's reply simply counted all northern votes together and declared victory.

Those are not the same thing.

Yes, Peter Obi polled over two million votes in the North in 2023. But where did those votes come from? They came overwhelmingly from [b]North Central [/b]states such as Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and the FCT, with additional support in Taraba—areas where Christian populations and protest voting played a significant role.

Now look at the core North-West and much of the North-East. Obi's numbers were tiny: about **0.60% in Katsina, 0.64% in Yobe, 0.33% in Zamfara, 1.12% in Sokoto, 1.67% in Kano, 6.63% in Kwara and 10.33% in Niger.** Those are the figures Sheriff was referring to—not the North Central protest belt.

Then comes the comedy.

Kwankwaso now suggests that his presence on the ticket changes everything because he once received about **1.45 million northern votes**.

The irony is almost comic. Kwankwaso is promising Peter Obi the northern votes that he himself never had.

In 2023, when he was the presidential candidate at the top of the ticket, he crossed the constitutional 25% threshold in just one northern state—Kano. One.

Not Kaduna. Not Katsina. Not Jigawa. Not Sokoto. Not Kebbi. Not Bauchi. Not Borno. Not Yobe. If he could not build a northern coalition for himself, by what political magic does he now become the key to delivering the entire Hausa-Fulani voting bloc to Peter Obi? You cannot donate votes you never possessed.

Finally, Kwankwaso advised Sheriff to talk about insecurity in Borno. The irony is that anyone who watched the interview knows Sheriff did discuss insecurity and humanitarian challenges. Criticising him for failing to do what he actually did suggests Kwankwaso was responding more to a political script than to the interview itself.

If Kwankwaso knows the electoral arithmetic and still says this, then he is misleading Peter obi and his supporters.
If he does not know it, then he is being misled by his own optimism. Either way, both the seller and the buyer become victims of the same illusion.
