Politics / Re: Federal Govt Gears Up For Another Offensive In The Delta by tharma(f): 6:33pm On Sep 14, 2009
In Nigeria, rumour usually turn out to be true. But going by what the government did with Boko Haram and the amount of money they said they spent on amnesty, with all the Niger Delta leaders supporting the amnesty programme, especialy the governors, I think the government is waiting for provacation from MEND.

Disaster is looming

Politics / Re: Nigeria Ranks 3rd In World Population Growth by tharma(f): 7:50pm On Jan 15, 2009
Jarus:

We are talking about city, not state. UN statistical sources put Lagos as 15th most populous city in the world, and with a growth rate of 5.8% per annum, it was projected to rise to 3rd most populous city in the world by 2015. By 2006 it was already ranked 8th.

However, with the outcome of 2006 census, all the statistical research agencies have reviewed their records, and from my latest research, Lagos is now ranked 14th most populous city in the world, as I type.

Kano? I can't see Kano on the list. Reason: I don't know.
Haba, koto yen. Don't take it too far, Funmi.

Reason because Kano is not a Mega city like Lagos. Sometimes ppl forget that there is difference between a city and state. The population given to Kano during the Census was not for Kano city but for Kano State. Lagos is State where everybody largely live in d city (correct me if Im wrong). But Kano have land mass with towns and villages.
Politics / Re: Customs Officials Kill Conductor, Provoke Riot by tharma(f): 7:40pm On Jan 15, 2009
Nigerians are hypocrites. Nobody cares that a conductor was killed. Months I remember the ppl of Nairaland and Nigerians users in Facebook were busy shouting for Justice for one lady, perharps may be cos ha papa is a rich a man. But now a bus conductor is shot dead nobody even want to talk about.

To create a just society, struggle for justice must be for all.

What we have in Nigeria is selective justice for selecitve struggle for justice.
Politics / Re: Please Commend Rather Than Condemn This Man. by tharma(f): 3:54pm On Jan 10, 2009
My problem with what happened in Lagos is that the government act without planning. He shouldnt have demolished the place without providing alternative first, ask them to move, and when they refuse you demolished. This what we call lack of human feelings. He has destroyed the lives of so many Nigerians without thinking. His intentions might be good, but not done the right way. Therefore people should criticize him so that next time he will do it the right way. That is what democracy is all about. If In his own world the govenor said:

"Let me emphasise that we didn't just go to Oshodi because we wanted to go to Oshodi. We got a complaint from the community in a letter, about security of lives and properties and what was happening at Oshodi. They said the place had become a haven for criminals. We found all sorts of things there, including guns and cutlasses, during the exercise.

"Those who we had to move, they had no right to be there, because there is no market there, should be patient with us. I have a plan for them, it is almost finished. We have done the design and waiting for the cost, so that they can take proper safe trading unit there, in well appointed places that would not hinder traffic.

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/news/article01//indexn2_html?pdate=100109&ptitle=Why%20Immunity%20Clause%20Should%20Stay,%20By%20Fashola

He should have waited untill he finnish his design and costing, the right place b4 demolishing it. A government is suppose to be a provider not a destroyer. Govt is suppose to give job to people to make people jobless. Government is suppose to eradicate poverty not make people poorer overnight.

Please temper your emotions before replying to certain posts. If you fail to do so, you could post like an over-fed fool without aspirations. By the way, it would have been humanly impossible for the alluded civil war in your post to have ended the manner it did if the sole combatants were only Northern Nigerians and Biafrans. At least, you should recall that it took almost three (3 years) for the combined forces of Britain, USSR, Chad, Arab league, Egypt, Cameroon, Republic of Benin, Northern Nigerian, Western Nigerian, most of the Mid-western Nigeria and some of the ethnic minority groups in the Eastern Nigeria to achieve your fantasy.

Read very well. I said mobilize. It seems u dont read history of wars. Wars are fought with the support of allies.

I think you fulani folk should be proud your being lumped with Hausa made you appear in broad category of tribes in Nigeria. You may be more in number(?) than the Hausa, but if the compound name is to be done away with, and a simple name si to be used then Hausa, will be most likely adopted, in which case Fulani becomes like any other minority tribe of Ebira, igala, Tiv etc.

We dont pride ourselve in number, we are never bothered wether we are considered as minority or whatever. We have pride in our conviction. We can compete for our survival in whatever circumtances we find ourselves.

Well there are many reasons why they refer to some of them as hausa-fulani but honestly u need to get a hausa-fulani and ask him why he like to call himself Hausa-fulani.

However from my own understanding it is about identity. The north is made off numerous tribes that all speak the Language of Hausa. In Bauchi for instance I personally know of 7 different languages and in Gombe I know of at least 9. Normally people identify themselves with their particular tribe, but for the fulbe that have intermarried with hausa or other tribes and end up assimilated in to the main stream hausa usually call themselves hausa-fulani, but we dont consider them fulbe. My uncle married hausa woman and all her children consider themselves as hausa-fulani but we consider them as hausa.

Another thing I came to understand is because of Islamic identification. The fulbe consider themselves as constodians of Islam courtesy of Shehu Usmanu Foddiyo, as such to be identified with the fulbe used to be a pride in the north. Dont forget the emirs, apart from Bauchi, are all Fulbe. Moreover the elite in and around the emirs used to be fulbe, so to be identified with fulbe gives u some sense of pride and makes u feel superior. So the tradition kind of continued. So it is some kind of inferiority complex.

Anybody that call himself Hausa-fulani is Hausa, as far as we are concern. And for your information we - the people that speak the Fulfulde language- dont call ourselves Fulani. Thats is name used by the Hausa people to call us, just like they call Igbo people Inyamuri and they call Yoruba people Boda (though not sure if all the Hausa states used that). We are Fulbe as a tribe, and Pullo as an individual.

Sometimes I get pissed off with the tribalist here trying to accuse us, the northerners of every henious crime

However as Kobojunkie said it is a national problem. Recently we saw on channel 4 how children are being accused of being witches. We also read of babies factories in Enugu. And there are many such king of children in west too. However, the problem in the north is that the Almajiri system is institutionalized, to the extend that political leaders are afraid of taking side against it. In the olden days, the Almajiri system is not about beggin, they started begging when people started to become materialistic and also when farming ceased to be the main economic activity in the north. Mos t of the farming activities then were done by the Almijiri and they are paid in kind.

People should understand that in the North before the British invade us and killed the Sultan in 1903 we have our own system of education - which is Ajmi based. Because of that the western education faced a steep opposition in the north. Adequate awareness and transistion programmed was not created to facilitate the transformation of the Almjiri system of education. Our governments have failed in that respect and that is what we all complaining on daily basis.

So Im not supprise that we have people celebrating Ribabus humiliatio. Nairaland is fast beig taken over by the corrupt politicians.

In another thread I saw one politician (son of another govt thief) trying to compaign here. I think most of the ppl now here are either politicians or they are paid to register on Nairaland.

So who told you that muslim's don't read the bible?

Bible and the Koran are essentially the same book?

Everything you find in the Koran is in the bible.

The Koran even as a chapter dedicated to the mother of Jesus (Isa) called Miriam or Mary.

and the bible mentions Jesus name more times than the name of the Prophet Muhammed.

Has the bible got a chapter dedicated to the mother of Jesus? No.

Many Muslim won't admit it, but when they are reading the Koran they are infact reading the bible to a certain extent.

Im aware of the similarities. My argument here is that if the Muslims of today could memorized the qur'an why wont the people of Jesus time memorized the accounts and then pass it from generation to generation before written down in a book. After all u dont need another account if one account can give all the (hopefullY) possible activities that might have occured. I

no nation on earth needs nuclear war head, what for, why own a weapon you will never use meanwhile it will cost billions of $ to build such facilties, we can use the money that will build nuclear facilties to feed our people. Even America will have to re-think how much its spending on defence in the face of current economic down-turn, 5 million peeps will be jobless next year I don't think obama's priority will be increase defence expenses but to rather cut it down.

From the beginning of time human beings fight, maim and kill each other. Dont u read ur bible or qur'an? Dont u follow history? Or why do u think Britain is still building warships in Govan, Glasgow? Or why do u thing America is building defense shield? Dont decieve urself because of the current lul in the world crises. Time shall come again when man will go to war. What if the were memorizing it from generation to generation like muslims do. The fact that today u get many, hundred of thousands to millions of muslims that memorized the qur'an, it is not going to be a big deal for them to memorize the bible.

One of my former neighbours one day told me that since when he was a kid he want to kill people, but it is this religion thing that is stopping because he dont want to go to hell. If people like him now meet u what will u tell him? No hell, go and enjoy ur life (and to him enjoy is to kill) because according to him he fantasise about killing people on daily basis. When he told me that I quickly gave my estate agents notice, pack and moved away from him.
