Renewable energy is not without its drawbacks. I work in the energy industry so I am telling u from a position of authority. Renewable energy hasn't gotten to a point that will meet our industrialisation needs yet. Go and do ur research
U can't pay the 28 naira u are being charged per kWh gotten from gas now, is it when we introduce a larger bill with more expensive source of power like wind and solar that u guys can afford it?
If China toed every command laid down by the West do u think they will get to where they are today? Even India refused to sign the Paris pact for the same reason. Are u smarter than them?
Guy dey reason before u attack. Think critically before voicing ur opinion on issues.
You don't need to go far, even in some African countries that Nigeria are better than generate more electricity than Nigeria and they are using renewable energy..

Enough of all this nonsense.
We should be moving forward not backward...
Assuming she is talking of a nuclear energy I would have understood it but coal... damn is backward for a 21st century.

You should google and check the nature of power generation leading countries in the world use. There are now cleaner coal generation. If we had the technology, who will stop us. It is because we are contracting it to them.

Them world couldn't even stop north Korea from producing nuclear bomb and missile. They couldn't stop Russia from taking Crimea from Ukraine. Be aware there are world politics. And a program to underdevelop Africa
If there are cleaner coal generation technique put it forward not mere speculation.

Nigeria can not manage the adverse effects of using coal as a source of energy. Besides do you know buhari signed a climate treaty in Paris which is against such moves?

You see how the Westerners could stop us BC of foolishness of Nigeria president. So blame the president not the Westerners also blame kemi for not being news savy

You need to direct you criticism rationally. First of all, I do not think it is the finance minister who decides on the kind of power plants to build.

Secondly, there is nothing wrong with using coal to generate electricity. Forget all the bulls**t about the environment, coal still provides 40% of world energy till date and the biggest developed and industralised countries are the biggest users of coal. The US gets over 40% of its power from coal, china gets over 75% of its power from coal, I can't remember the statistic from Germany but if I'm right, the Germans are currently building a very massive new coal plant as we speak.

As a nation, just like a child, we must first learn to crawl and then walk, before we start thinking of running. Renewables (wind, solar etc) are far far more expensive that the traditional ways. Nigeria is presently in darkness, we still use kerosene lanterns in our homes and have tens of millions of tiny generators which emit 10,000 times more dangerous pollitants than whatever a coal plant can emit. This is just common sense, we must first walk before we start thinking of how to run. Even the industralised and developed who have all the money are not yet leaving coal power even for the next 50 years, yet you want a crippled child to jump and run faster.
[/s]

You are not serious for putting off the effect of co2 in our atmosphere.

As far as technology is concerned standards are sacrosanct....

A coal power plant this moment will be very harmful to our space and the world at large...

Nigeria should try and invest in the power sector not this lip service of finding who to blame..

So which should start blaming the Westerners BC we have no power, is that how it should be now?

That's rubbish, nobody should take kemi serious and the minister of power should sway in and inject money into the sector for a workable efficient source of energy....

Finish

Mohammed Adamu,

I do not know about you,or read any article by you before, but your write up deserves an award.

We forget easily how it all started. A lot of the commentators on National Discuss, deliberately try to forget ,or maybe were too young to remember Tinubu's role in the Democracy we enjoy today.

Sad. Very sad how quickly we forget.

But history will be kind to Tinubu. Same Tinubu that picked a Pastor to be the Vice-president,even if he is Muslim.

I met Tinubu for the first time some 8 Years ago at a function ,and his down to earth charisma, and very sharp mind drew me to him.

The Politicians ganging up against him will fail. They will fail for the simple reason that they lack what it takes, like Tinubu to bring people together for a good cause.

I am not a Politician. I have not benefitted from any Politician in my life, I am not even Yoruba. But I am proud to call myself Tinubu's Boy.

Tinubu is a man with the interest of Nigeria at Heart.

Why is this woman disgracing herself and this country at large the foolish cashier even went ahead blaming the west for her incompetence and foolishness?

How on earth can you be planning to build a coal power plant in this 21st century when there are clean and renewable energies around which can be powered by water, solar and wind.

She should spend more to leverage on that that's science and technology for you and please is getting pissed seeing you trading blames due to incompetence.
PoliticsNigeria Wants To Build A Coal Power Plant - Kemi by TheEastActivist(op): 1:58am On Oct 06, 2016
The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has accused western powers of being a stumbling block to Nigeria’s plan to improve power output through the use of coal. Adeosun said this on Wednesday in Washington during a discussion on the importance of addressing infrastructure gaps in developing countries at the World Bank, International Monetary Fund General Meetings. She said that improving power supply was the corner stone of the current administration’s goal towards economic development, yet finding it difficult to get support from western community. “We want to build a coal power plant because we are a country blessed with coal, yet we have power problem. So it doesn’t take a genius to workout that it will make sense to build a coal power plant.

Please the world is changing so fast so Mrs finance minister follow the trend...

Science has a standard for everything.
To checkmate global warming and ozone depletion there are many technology that has fade out with time to give room for cleaner fuel to power our infrastructures in order to save the earth ozone layer and checkmate global warming.

Sometimes I ask who is advising the woman she looks young but acts so old in the brain. How can in this century you want to use coal to power your country when there are other better way of doing it using solar and wind even ordinary water too.

This woman won't stop disgracing herself and Nigeria at large. So for your mind Na Westerners they hold you .. smh this woman is a joke as one would say apc has graduated the blame game to a whole new level.

grin grin grin see as zombie dey wail o

I love the Igbos so much, right from the time I was a kid they never disappoints...
Igbo's should see this thread as a credit to their person instead of seeing it otherwise.

This shows that the Igbo politics is relevant in Nigeria politics.
This shows that no matter what, the Igbo's still count in 9ja politics.
This shows that Igbo's will always be a determining factor in 9ja politics.

We don't have jabagan in the east but during election we have a common goal, we are not doing this for any gains all we asking for is a fair ground to run our business and help the country to grow.

Op please don't ever mind if buhari should drop osibanjo the mere commissioner to turn to the east for support for him to redeem his image and make things right after releasing NK to us. With that alone we can forgive and align with them to save Nigeria from recession. But if they don't then we shall all oppose buhari to the end.

Even in all the hate campaign against the Igbos yet buhari couldn't do without them and that's what is keeping buhari on all this while and he will appoint more to save his incompetence.

Politics is just a game it will only hurt those who takes it seriously. In this case is a win win for the Igbos

This thread is not about the finance minister but Emefiele, leave her out of this and face the northern youths.
Northern youths?? Lmao so lazy afonja when do you become the propagator of the so called northern youth or are you now doing the biddings of your masters?

Kemi is connected to this as the onus fall on her to be the one to steer the economy towards the right direction, else why is she the minister and why is she paid...

Don't make me believe you now listen to those illiterates just to spite Igbos, even in the article they scored an own goal by admitting they ain't economist and we will be given them the chance to retract their statement and get adequate knowledge of whom the onus falls on...

The afonjas wants to mastubate with this even when everybody knows that the group is inconsequential and more importantly if they make use of their brain they would have know that the problem comes from that cashier we call the minister of finance.

Kemi must resign and me am given 31 days ultimatum...
For buhari am given him 2 months to resign if he couldn't steer the economy towards the right direction.

The onus shuould lie on those two idiiots.
Anyway I don't blame the north all they know is the CBN gov they don't even know the minister of finance and how her ministry should work... I blame their ignorance for this misplaced priority
