Top three ghetto things in the world right now: 1. Being a Nigerian 2. Being a Nigerian living in Nigeria 3. Being a Nigerian who is living in Nigeria and earning in Naira. Nigeria's inflation over the last year stood at 30.37%, according to Steve Hanke, a renowned professor of applied economics at John Hopkins University. Or 13.71% as of September 2020, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Everybody who earns and spends in Naira is affected by the inflation rate. The worst hit by inflation are savers who have seen the value of their money eroded. Based data between 2000 and September 2020, to beat inflation in Nigeria, your savings would have to earn you at least 12% cumulative interest every year. But achieving the 12% interest required to beat inflation in Nigeria requires taking on some risk. However, the typical risk-free investments like treasury bills are offering lesser returns (as low as 1%) as the day goes by. After assessing the investment options that are available to small-scale investors, I was able to itemise seven ways you can beat the Nigerian spiralling inflation rate: 1. Fintech investment package 2. Stocks, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) 3. Hold savings in other currencies (USD, Euro, Swiss Francs, etc.) 4. Cryptocurrency 5. Bonds 6. Agro-investment 7. Real estate investment read more: https://www.benjamindada.com/seven-ways-to-beat-inflation-in-nigeria/ What are the ways you are using to beat Nigeria's inflation? Please share. Police brutality and COVID-19: two viruses currently killing Nigerians. But the former is more deadly, it has killed more Nigerian youths than COVID-19. Despite the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on October 11, 2020, the #EndSARSProtest has intensified. Nigerian youths want police brutality to stop. They want a definite end to the rogue unit, which has been banned at least four times in three years. These Tech Companies Have Shown Support for #EndSARS Protest Following the unfortunate encounter of Akinmolayan Oluwatoni with the brute police division in September 2019, tech leaders started the #StopRobbingUs campaign. The campaign is "against the imminent threat by the Nigerian Police to the $2 billion tech industry and the rights and freedom of Nigerian youth". The #StopRobbingUs campaign is still calling on more survivors of police brutality to come forward, so that it can file multiple legal suits against the NPF. Survivors can contact the campaign via /stoprobbingus-survivors. #EndSARSProtest Donors More than 15 tech companies in Nigeria have donated money to support the protest to end police brutality in the country. I read with tears almost racing down my cheeks, the submission of PUNCH’s editorial board, ‘the future of Nigeria is bleak’. And as a proud patriotic citizen, a youth of this country, I almost retorted in her defence. Because for four years I was fed with ‘the future is bright’, so I find ‘the future is bleak’ a hard pill to swallow. It has been said that Nigerians are the most hopeful humans roaming the universe. And coupled with our religiosity, our lips perpetually pour out positive confessions against obvious contrary evidences. Sadly, positive confessions without progressive actions only produce dashed hopes. Thus, the editorial board of PUNCH acted wisely: diagnosed Nigeria’s education and made its recommendations. Failure to face the emergency in Nigeria’s education portends a bleak future. Therefore, as a millennial who will shoulder the future – bleak or bright – I proffer a strategy that will achieve results on two fronts: technology. Education has been redefined, and better ways of learning have been birthed by the blissful bond of technology and education – Edtech (Education Technology). Technology will not only save Nigeria’s decaying education but also boost technological development in Nigeria. And to allay the fears of the conservative educators and stakeholders, technology will not render you jobless. Rather, it will increase your productivity. You can impart more lives, earn extra money, and teach without stress using technology. Research has shown that students believe they learn more from technology than people. Schools, and teachers need to pay attention to this. And for a country like Nigeria entangled in economic and socio-political web, the infrastructures – classrooms, tables, chairs, etc. required for traditional learning style (and teaching) cannot be (sufficiently) provided. Technology, also, will rescue the out-of-school children (and youths). Developed countries in the 21st century take education to the doorsteps, tables, and pockets of citizens using technology. There are Open Educational Resources (OERs), Mass Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and others that are cost-effective and convenient ways of ensuring citizens’ literacy. Distance and time are no longer impediments to learning. From the Niger Delta creeks to the deserted war-torn North-East, nobody would be left in the dark world of illiteracy. With a smartphone, tablet or computer connected to the internet, teachers and students can connect from any part of the world at any time. And research has confirmed that students learn better and faster with technology because it makes learning fun, and easy. It allows students to control the time, place, path, or pace. Students will learn at the best time to assimilate, and at a pace they can understand. Blended learning, therefore, the fusion of traditional and digital learning would improve students’ performance. I do not have monopoly of this thought, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo also concurs, and he said “we must adapt our education policy to fit in with new trends.” The new trend is Edtech - blended learning. There are pockets of thriving Edtech companies in Nigeria offering unique services. There is pass.ng for exams; tuteria for tutors; okadabooks for books; and Brainstormr that does better what four Edtech companies combined do. The Brainstormr platform can be easily accessed through the web or mobile application. And you can: read books; earn money; talk to a counselor; engage with experts; and connect with fellow eggheads on the platform. Also, it has a Virtual Learning Environment and a Learning Management System; tools training centers, institutions, universities, and organizations can use for their training and development seminars, distance learning, and data management. And of course, while these companies are making quality education accessible to all, they will also be contributing to the economy in taxes and providing gainful employment for the employable few. Technology is indeed one strategy that will make Nigeria win on many fronts: teachers and students will be trained on how to effectively utilise technology for learning, more educational technologies will be created, gainful employment, and improved economy. Although this strategy is fail-proof, and has been successful in many countries, like Singapore and Finland. But it still requires thorough implementation, and following through with the process. If we must change the narrative and avert this sure prophecy of a bleak Nigeria’s future, government must make policies that will promote blended learning, and make educational technologies attractive to all learning institutions. A millennial thought on how technology can save Nigeria’s decaying education.

"We mustn’t be stuck in the way we think about education, we must move on, because all over the world, most people are learning good and evil on the Internet. We must adapt whatever we want to learn to all of this. We must recognize that most young people are looking at these devices almost 24 hours of the day. We must take advantage of that because in the years to come, emphasis on classroom and formal sitting down learning is going to diminish." - VICE PRESIDENT, Professor Yemi Osinbajo The value of information is in its capacity to birth transformation. And education has been – and still is – a means of achieving this. On its wings were born the metamorphosis of man; from Stone Age through to the Technology Age characterised by innovation and knowledge. But for the future relevance of education in the scheme of things – especially with the emergence of the Internet of Things – it must engage technology and embrace global best practices. If the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in education - the guarantee of inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all – is to be achieved in Nigeria, our education policy must be imbued with the effective utilization of technology in the learning process; and teachers and other players in the education sector must embrace these best practices. William B. Yatse once said, ‘education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.’ As the times are changing quickly and the world is thrusting swiftly, we need no soothsayer to tell us the future is technology, and whatever or whoever desires to live to fulfilment of this age must embrace technology. This is the reason proactive leaders with foresight have ditched traditional education systems for a dynamic, innovative and collaborative system – blended learning – that prepares and equips the younger generation for the future. Nigeria, a country that has over fifty percent of its population as youths must realize the future – which is here – of the nation is hundred percent the youths. Countries are already setting example in this regard: UAE, Kuwait, and Taiwan are leading the park in the engagement of technology in the classroom. Finland has shown the world that the traditional education system is not only obsolete but also ineffective for today’s world. This has been further established by their higher ratings ahead of United States of America. In 2009 according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development report, they ranked sixth in Maths, second in Science and third in Reading while U.S. students ranked 30th, 23rd and 17th, respectively, of the 65 tested countries. And in the United Arab Emirates for instance, there are facilities for students to sign up to specialized online class forums with video capacity, allowing them to team up on ideas and discuss self – study projects remotely. Students can also connect with tutors face-to-face at allocated times using these facilities. Thus, their students graduate as highly-skilled workers adaptable to new and evolving technologies. For the 21st century education to be successful, we must engender what Mark Nicholas highlighted as imperatives in his book, ‘Teaching for Learning’: increase in the capacity of learning institutions to cater for more students cum the ability to cater for them effectively; adaptation of knowledge imparted to the realities of life; removal of hindrances in accessing knowledge, and flexible learning styles to accommodate peculiarities of the students; a competitive mind-set in the education sector that creates alternative choices and more convenience for the students – students should determine what, when, where and how they learn; and finally, personal touch – interaction among the students and between individual tutor and student. Again, it is imperative to note that care must be taken in the adaptation of these principles in Nigeria. There is often a tendency for the bastardization and crippling of policies and systems that are successful in other climes when copied and pasted without proper adaptation. A case in point is the implementation of continuous assessment in Nigerian institutions of learning. Though not a bad idea, it was soon reduced to mid semester tests, and the whole gamut of the learning process coalesced into the passing of examination rather than the acquisition of life skills and labour demanding competencies to lead a successful life in a competitive global free economy. Nonetheless, neither the adaptation of these global best practices nor the imperatives for 21st century education is negotiable, if Nigeria desires to be relevant in the global economy by 2020 and if we are to command any respect in the fierce competitive knowledge economy, our education policy should as a matter of urgency be reviewed to incorporate this blissful marriage of education and technology. While some of us are born genius, most of us desire to be a genius (but only few of us are actually trying to be a genius). This post is not for those that can remember faces, names, directions, and other information easily. Rather, it is for you, my friend, who forgets things easily. These ten tricks will help you remember more stuffs, cure forgetfulness, pass your tests, and be a genius. 10 ways to keep things in memory 1. Chunking Technique Also called grouping. It is the technique used in writing the numbers on the debit card: 1234 5678 9101 1121. Chunking means grouping items by finding patterns and organizing them accordingly. So, if you want to remember that phone number, birthdays, or account number: group them. 2. Mnemonic Devices This trick is very common. And you must have used it at one time or the other. Remember ROYGBIV? The arrangement of the rainbow colours – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. Mnemonics refers to using patterns, letters, or ideas to aid memory. Using acronyms and mnemonics can help you remember the order of things. 3. Visual Memory Human memory is rooted in visual memory, that’s why most geniuses have photographic memory. Paint a picture of whatever you want to remember – dates, names, etc. Connecting a visual to whatever you want to memorise makes a stronger impression on your brain. 4. Make it Musical and Rhyme Ever wondered why we hardly forget songs? Give a rhythm to it, and it will stick like your favourite song. 5. Repetition Repetition aids retention. Practice makes perfect. As simple as ABC! Continuous reading or recitation reinforces an information into the long term memory. I know the phone number o of my parents by heart because I dial their numbers very often. 6. Write It Out Repetition is a key and works even better when written down. The faintest pencil is sharper than the smartest brain. Information written down can never be forgotten. Write it out, before long, you will know it by heart. 7. Associate what you’re trying to learn with what you already know There is nothing new under the sun. There is an association between what you are trying to learn and what you already know, link them. I always remember my friend’s birthday because we went to the same school, her birth month is August – I’m 5th and she’s 31st, and she’s my friend. The more connections you have to information, the more likely you are to remember it. 8. Read Out Loud (ROL!) When you read in silence (or in your head) you use only your sense of vision. But when you ROL, you engage two senses – vision and hearing, thus, helping to engrain the info into your head. 9. Get Enough Sleep If you want your brain to work well, give it enough rest. Research shows that sleep triggers changes in the brain that solidify memories by improving brain cell connections. The brain needs sleep to make a memory stick. 10. Eat Well 70% of the food you consume is used by the brain. You don’t have to finish a buffet to eat well; follow simple principles like eating breakfast, eating fruits, etc. This article was first published on blog.brainstormr.com

According to a research conducted: most young people believe they learn more form technology than from people. And considering the amount of time we spend online with our gadgets, we cannot challenge this truth. And you will agree with me that there is a lot to learn online; the good, the bad, and the ugly. The choice is yours. Here are the top educational sites in Nigeria where you can learn the good, and the best: 1. Brainstormr: This is the grandmaster of educational technology. Brainstormr.com does what four edtech companies combined do, and even better. You can read books, ask a tutor, talk to a counsellor, an expert, take exams, mock trivia, sell books, articles, journals etc. And they also have a Virtual Learning platform (www.classroom.brainstormr.com). www.brainstormr.com is undoubtedly the student nerve centre. 2. Pass.ng: Started by late Samson Abioye and his friends in their lecturer’s office in LAUTECH, Ogbomoso in 2013. This is the go-to site for every ‘Jambite’ if you don’t want to fail. 3. Flexisaf: This is an educational technology company founded in 2007. The trio: Faiz Bashir, Alameen Ibrahim, and Abubakar Manga started out in Abuja before spreading tentacles to other states like Lagos, and subsidiaries like distinction.ng; skools.ng; kidcoder.ng etc. they want every school activity to become paperless, and smart. 4. Tuteria.ng: Will you resign from a firm where you get stable reasonable salary? Godwin Benson did; resigned from Deloitte to start tuteria.ng. Tuteria.ng does the same thing as tutor.ng, but differently. Before a tutor profile can appear on the site, they pass through a rigorous selection process of verification. So you may not see as many tutors on Tuteria.ng as Tutor.ng. But you can be sure of any tutor on www.tuteria.ng. 5. Tutor.ng: Peter Ogedengbe and Fehintolu Olaogun started Tutor.ng in 2014. Have you heard of Udemy, Edx, Cousera etc., Tutor.ng is the Nigeria version. You will find a tutor to teach you anything you want to learn offline or online. And I mean anything! www.tutor.ng 6. Stutern: student internship – Jobberman for internship. Founded two years ago on the 15th of January 2015 by Taiwo and Kehinde Ayanleye. Either you want to make money during holiday or just want to have hands-on experience, then Stutern is for you. You will be connected to the right firm. www.stutern.com 7. myschool.com.ng: if you need to know the latest about exams in Nigeria – JAMB, WAEC, POST UTME, etc. or news on any university in Nigeria, especially admission news, go to myschool.com.ng. They also provide past questions and other services that will ensure you get admitted into the university. www.myschool.com.ng YOU CAN ADD 8,9, AND 10.
