But sincerely is there any iota of substance in Reno's post. This guy feels the urge to jump on all issues. Someone really needs to talk to him. |
ADETAIO OTUYEMI, FROM ABUJA. Sadly, wars, conflicts, and social strife are a common human phenomenon. The last five years have seen a rise, a twist, and a return to an ugly past, the return to wars between sovereign nations. Since Mankind started binding together into societies, wars between different social groups have been a constant. I urge more studies into wars during the time of the Neanderthals and early Homo-Sapiens. Wars, conflict, strife, whatever the nomenclature it could take is regrettably unavoidable but mankind should cooperate like a beehive and together find ways to make positives out of this constant and avoid being drawn into it for its gains be it socio-economic, Geo-political strategy or ideology. The close of the 20th century and early 21st century saw humans now more engaged in civil wars ( endless list) and the post-September 11 war on perceived terrorist groups and the attendant proxy wars they became. This piece is not to advocate wars or glorify conflict but simply highlight that Mankind is not learning from history and no matter how advanced we think we are, there’s little difference between those primates that discovered hunting tools and those gleaning for colonies on uncharted parts of the universe. At the turn of the 20th Century, the global elites made popular rhetoric of A war to end all wars, that rhetoric birthed two global conflicts and over 50 million deaths. Today, the global community with numerous challenges like climate change, staring us down like a carnivore stalking its weakened prey cannot afford to continue having wars on industrial scales. We can’t keep having wars that add the latest technological innovations to its so-called tools and platforms. The Cold War in my humble opinion is the most iconic period of human existence, as it birthed space conquest, Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD), geopolitical and ideological struggles, Kissinger’s Real Politik, and most importantly the current world order. The Cold War further birthed proxy wars, increased global trade in arms and ammunitions, nuclear proliferation, religious terrorism in all its forms, the rise of liberalism as well as innovative forms of tyranny and aggressive development of technology mankind couldn't fathom decades prior. Scholars argue that conflicts can’t be separated from the human social fabric, as explained in most human societies metaphor of the tongue and teeth, but if slavery a historical social norm could be abolished despite its real socio-economic drawbacks at the time (Thanks to the advent of the Industrial Revolution), then human conflicts could be a thing of the past. Intergovernmental bodies could simply start this crusade by sincerely supporting deliberate public campaigns similar to William Wilberforce’s agitation those years ago. The COVID-19 lockdowns made despots like Vladimir Putin, Chairman Kim, Xi Jing Ping, Paul Kagame and their Wannabees lurking in the long dark eerie halls of power become more aware of their powers and this has led to an increased thirst for unbridled power. Unfortunately, this alarming trend is leading mankind to perdition. The list below is a highlight of ongoing inter-country wars and very potential ones; (Azerbaijan Vs Armenia (Nagarno-Karabakh), Russia-DPRK Vs Ukraine, Israel/Hamas/Hezbollah. ) The potential ones include; DPRK/ROK, China Vs Taiwan/United States, Venezuela Vs Guyana, Pakistan vs. the Afghan Taliban, Nigeria (ECOWAS) Vs Sahel States, Rwanda Vs DRC ( by extension the SADC), Poland (NATO) Versus Russia, and a host of others. The dynamic decades of the 1980s, 1990s, 2000’s and 2010’s made the social fabric of the world stronger as it experienced the end of the aforementioned Cold War, commenced the US-led war against terror, and deepened joint efforts to solve civil wars in a number of countries in the global south. Unfortunately, the improved diplomacy, trade and cultural exchanges among the comity of nations didn’t take into consideration the threat of another Allied Vs Axis powers type of war rapidly taking shape on the doorsteps of NATO. We may have on our hands the drawing of new alliances at the turn of the next decade. A point to note is that the rise of these re-merged types of wars could accelerate M.A.D, a term we all thought had gone with the Cold War, but indeed the world got it wrong. Wars do no one good including the authoritarians and tyrants in power who view it as a tool for more power. To the detriment of war mongers, they could easily become its victims, the Nazis, Soviets in Afghanistan, and Jihadists in the Levant easily come to mind. A good alternative to these senseless acts of aggression could be more investments and development of the shared markets concept. This concept has proved effective in the European Community once known as a hotbed of wars ( The Crusades, Napoleonic wars, WW 1 and 2 etc). The concept of shared markets could help ensure that much needed goods and services in our various Geo political regions become more readily available and affordable. With the development and implementation of more shared market economic concepts like the African Free Trade agreement and BRICS, state aggression arising from the perceived fear of scarce or diminishing resources would gradually become non-existent and humanity could sing cumbayas and kiss our longest and greatest scourge good bye for good. |

The Nigerian Diaspora; catalyst for National renaissance Adetaio Otuyemi, from Abuja. There is a saying among the Yoruba's of South-West Nigeria; "Omi l'eyan" ( roughly translated as Humans move like the water). Since time immemorial people have moved from place to place, in fact no one or group of people are Aborigines so to say, people have always moved from place to place in search of succor. The meaning of a Diaspora population according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is "the movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland". Nigerians from all regions have the diaspora spirit in them, the people called Nigerians today have always moved from place to place, this is a fact entrenched in the folklore of all its people. Nigerians always trace their origins from someplace else. The crux of this piece centers on the Post-Independent Nigerian people and the heavy emigration connoted with the moniker "Japa". The emigration of Nigerians has been in waves and eras, the Ogbomoshos in the 50's/60's to the West African coast, the Igbos to Equatorial Africa during the harrowing years of the Biafran war, the brain drain of the 80s/90's, and most recently the Japa wave of the late 2010's and ongoing into the 2020's. Emigration is a human right, which is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1945). Emigration brings about a melting point of different cultures, ideas, technology, finance, and business the list is endless. History has given overwhelming evidence of positivism in emigration and Diaspora so to speak. The most notable diaspora populations are the Jews, Chinese, and Indians in that order. Hertz, Sun Yat Sen, and Gandhi are products of the Diaspora and they easily fit into the mold of being named the fathers of their respective nations. In the case of Theodor Herzl the Austrian-Hungarian Jew, he championed the Zionist movement which sought the reparation of all Jews to their ancestral homeland in the Palestine territories. The Zionist movement was a success but at a bitter cost of the infamous holocaust and the current wars between Israel and its neighbours. On the path of Sun Yat Sen, whose memory is entrenched in history as the Chinese Nationalist who made the first concrete steps to end the Chinese "Century of Shame". He sojourned in the U.S. state of Hawaii (Then Kingdom of Hawaii) and a host of other places willingly and by exile. He was the founder of the Kuomintang, unfortunately, he didn’t live to see the success of his revolution against the Qing dynasty. Similarly Mahatma Ghandi the father and hero of India's independence from the British Raj was for a good number of his youthful years based in The then Union of South Africa. In-fact in his memoirs, he vividly recalled that his political and nationalist awareness was awakened by his experience in South Africa. Narrowing the matter to post 1960 Nigerian experience, we have had the most exemplary Nigerians among the stock of the diaspora, both born in and out of Nigeria; the list is endless, from Madam Okonjo-Iweala to Ademola Lookman, Adebayo Ogunlesi, Dr. Omalu, the computer guru Philip Emegwali and many others had cut their teeth as members of the Nigerian Diaspora. Uniquely the Nigerian diaspora have persons of timbre and calibre in almost all facets of society. The Nigerian diaspora in the U.S. leads overwhelmingly in healthcare and entrepreneurs in technology startups, in entertainment and sports names like Antetoukumpo, Jidenna, Bukayo Saka, Anthony Joshua, and Sade Adu take the lead to name a handful. The unique advantage of having a diaspora population in Science, entertainment, healthcare, entrepreneurship, culture, and academia gives an endless stream of talent and technical know-how in the areas of meaningful development. Today's Nigeria is bedeviled by Corruption, Infrastructural decay, a dwindling economy, ethno-religious strife, stiff competition for limited resources, and a dearth of leadership. No external force is going to right the ills of these wrongs, it must be done by its people. The Indian and Chinese diaspora armed with knowledge and technical know-how from abroad helped to propel their countries to their current enviable heights. If the Indians and Chinese could achieve success why not the Nigerians? Kudos must be given to the harbingers of The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), the establishment of this body has helped coordinate the activities of Nigerians at home and abroad. One great Nigerian in the person of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, a man I so admire thanks to years of working closely always made it a point that Nigerians have the finest and most intelligent people on Earth. He always made it a mantra that Nigeria's fortunes lay in a technological and innovative economy. The Nigerian Diaspora is a blessing and not a competition for those still at home, they offer fresh insights into global best practices and a tunnel to a refreshed and reinvigorated future.

Well written and all the points made are on point ☝️ But you need to understand Governments the world over no government tries to deliberately impoverish it's people. None including the Taliban and the Kim's north of the 38th parallel. Bobloco: |

How's that Tinubu's fault?. The frigates can fire projectiles okay. Most of these ships are battleships and frigates. You're right they can't fire ICBM's but they fire medium to long range projectiles. Mugu44: |

Senior man, your discussion is logical and well analyzed, also well argued out. But please cut out the conspiracy theory of Jewish blah blaa blaaa. Also, you are highlighting Russia going "full out war mode". What do you mean? The special operation they are doing is failing woefully. They can't even fight any longer, to the extent of getting in North Korean soldiers. Brozay Russia can't take on more enemies unless they rely heavily upon long-range strikes to hit the West. They can't even draft in more troops. Russia is spent economically, ideologically, we now know militarily and technologically. we need to stop the over-glorification of left-leaning politics and ideology. That's the summary of my gibberish. DomPerignon: |
My brother, no vex I didn't understand you. Regardless, they don't need the loan to pay salary, but to shoulder the bulk of the transfer fee, you get? ATEAMS: |
