Don’t Turn Lagos Roads To Mechanic Workshops, Trading Centres – Fashola, Hamzat

Lagosians have been advised to desist from trading on roads, median and sidewalks constructed by the state government. Equally, auto mechanics in the state have been warned to desist from turning roads constructed by the state government into their workshops.

This advice and warning were given on Tuesday by the duo of the state Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN; and the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat in Mushin. The occasion was the handing over of 16 newly constructed and rehabilitated roads by the state government to the people of Mushin community.

National Mirror: Jimoh Ibrahim Shops For New MD, Gets Cold Shoulder

The crisis in one of Nigeria’s daily national newspapers, National Mirror, deepens as the owner of the newspaper, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim continues to shop for a new Managing Director but is getting cold shoulder from possible candidates.

On Sunday, Ibrahim invited Seyi Fasugba to resume back as the Editor of the daily edition after demoting him few months ago as editor of one of the weekend editions of the paper.

The decision to recall Fasugba was informed by the inability of Ibraheem to get his desired target, one of the line editors in the paper.

Fasugba was back as the editor on Sunday. However, Ibrahim continues to search for a managing director without success. He had already approached a serving MD of a national newspaper who has rejected the offer. Another newspaper man in a national newspaper in Ibadan has also been contacted but he too has rejected the offer.

Investigation by thegazellenews.com revealed that those who have rejected Ibrahim’s offer are afraid of the way Ibrahim owes his staff with impunity.

Apart from this, they are also not comfortable with his ‘hire and fire’ attitude and his arrogance posture.

House of Representatives Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, is interested in succeeding Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, and he is preparing underneath to realise his ambition.

Gbajabiamila, a three term member of the House of Representatives, who represents Surulere Federal Constituency 1 in the House, is reported to be gathering his political arsenal for a go at the number seat in the state.

Coming from the same local government and senatorial district of the incumbent governor and bearing in mind that the state leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) may have zoned the governorship slot to the Lagos East Senatorial District, Gbajabiamila, thegazellenews.com exclusively learnt, has relocated his political machinery to Ikorodu.

“He has a house in Ikorodu already where he hopes to launch his governorship ambition,” sources told thegazellenews.com.

Also, within his Surulere abode where he does not presently enjoys cordial political relationship with other political leaders in the senatorial district, Gbajabiamila is reportedly realigning with some of his avowed political enemies in the area.

Last week, the lawmaker met with another lawmaker, this time a member of the state House of Assembly, Kabiru Lawal, at Harbour Point, Lekki.

Sources at the meeting told thegazellenews.com that Gbajabiamila told Lawal popularly called ‘Caesar’ by friends and political admirers to support his governorship ambition while he (Gbajabiamila) will support ‘Caesar’ to replace him at the House of Representatives. Hitherto, both Gbajabiamila and ‘Caesar’ are sworn-in political enemies.

Thegazellenews.com can reveal during the last general election in 2011, Gbajabiamila was one of those who worked against ‘Caesar’ getting back to the state Assembly syaing he was not loyal to the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Bamidele’s Defection: It’s A Welcome Development – Ekiti APC

The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has described the defection of governorship aspirant and member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele to the Labour Party as a welcome development.

Reacting to the declaration of Bamidele to the LP through a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Segun Dipe, the Ekiti APC described the lawmaker’s defection asa part of and beauty of democracy since politics and democracy is about free entry and free exit.

According to the party, “this is democracy and it is about free entry, free exit”.

However, the party stated that “we are not surprised because we know his destination all along and we had called the attention of our party members to his impending declaration for the Labour Party.

“While wishing him good luck, however, we will advise that he stays courageous and empathic with his ambition. We are saying this because some months ago, he allegedly printed posters to this effect, which he denied”.

The party also condemned Bamidele for making his declaration at Emure-Ekiti while “at a time the dead is still being mourned in the town? Our people can see how he is now dancing on the death of our citizen in Ekiti.

“Governor Kayode Fayemi had to postpone his trip to Emure in reverence of the dead. Why can’t Opeyemi allow the dead – victim of a recent violence in the town- to be buried before going there to play politics? This confirms our position that he actually masterminded the crisis and fatality in the town for his selfish interest”.
