He had the opportunity to address minority issues. Ironsi should have punished the coupist. Then Ironsi should have created 3 New regions in the North. Possibly add Ilorin and Kabba province to the western region. That way he would have compensated the western region for the the loss of the Midwest region. In the same vain, the minority agitations in the north would have been assuaged by creating 2 new states for the northern minorities.

That way He would have positioned himself favorably. Each regional governor would be protected by Soldiers from that particular region.

IPOB was adviced to join Nigerian politics as either a political party or a preasure group. They refused. They should have influenced the Anambra elections rather than boycott it. They would have thus cemented their hold on power, instead of losing it.
