Let's all agree that the town of Chibok is within striking distance of Boko Haram's theatre of war. 2. Boko Haram HATES Christians. The only reason why they haven't killed more Christians than they already have is because Christians are a minority in Borno State. 3. Chibok town has a significant Christian population. Whether that translates into having a Christian majority or not, is irrelevant. All it simply means is that the Christian population in Chibok was large enough to attract the attention of Islamists like Boko Haram. I have an uncle who serveed in that part of the country in the 1980s and I've heard from him that even then, Christians in Borno State were treated like second class citizens. Boko Haram simply upped the ante by intesifying what has already been going on for ages. 4. If indeed the kidnap was nothing more than an elaborate ruse, then I leave everything in God's hands. It's like a situation where a beggar tells you a tall tale in order to get you to give him some money. You have no way of verifying his story, but you give him the money just to satisfy your conscience. Using deception to get their way is not unusual to Northerners. But in this case, I'd rather act on compassionate grounds and assume that the Chibok story is true, rather than just assume that they were lying about Chibok in order to get Goodluck Jonathan out of office. Why add "shocking" to your headline? There is nothing shocking whatsoever about this revelation. Just last year, a group of young muslim "men" attacked a helpless 74 year old woman, Mrs Bridget Agbahime in Kano for alleged blasphemy simply because she objected to them using her shop premises for ablution. I can already guess the kind of background "preparation" and how much money changed hands before this announcment of "conversion." In fact Muslims have done this since the beginning of their religion as can be read in the Hadiths of Muhammad. In Sahih Bukhari 3344 Mohammad’s tribesmen the Quraish were angry with him for giving gold a group of pagans called the Najd. So they grumbled: “He gives to the Najd and does not give us” Muhammad told them: “I give them so as to attract their hearts to Islam”. In Sahih Muslim 6022 Mohammad gave gifts to a man called Safwan to attract him to Islam. Safwan testified: “The Messenger of Allah gave me even though he was the most hated of people to me, but he kept giving me until he became the most beloved of people to me” Compare this with the Christian example in Acts 8: 20 where someone offered Apostle Peter some money to purchase the gift of salvation and Peter rebuked him: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money” Indeed Christians and Muslims do not worship the same God. That is why these gentlemen will go back to their countries and practice their new religion in peace without fear of execution for apostasy. Imagine what it would have been like if the reverse were the case and they were leaving Islam instead of joining it. Your guess is as good as mine. |
