If you know any lifestyle you are living that is not good for your body, stop it. These things will come back to do a number on your health in old age.

We should pay closer attention to the foods out there today. Everything is ultra-processed and mixed with all sort of things. God knows what these for-profit companies are giving us to eat these days. For instance, what we call chocolate drinks like Milo and Bournvita all contain vegetable oil. Even the latest Peak milk (the filled one) contains vegetable oil. In what world does vegetable oil belong in milk and cocoa drinks?

And these are just the ones on the surface. Read the ingredients on most products you eat today and you won't even know what 95% of them are. Outside of water, everything else is always some funny name. Even the ones you think you know like fructose, which we call sugar, is not often from sugar cane or sugar beets and is from something else.

The situation is very unfortunate. I used to wonder why all the simple things we used to consume is now so ultra processed you can barely recognize the original product.
I remember when we were kids we used to cook beans for over 3hrs before it gets cooked. Today it barely lasts 30 mins. Most o the things we eat are now genetically modified and our government lies to us they are safe to consume. This is the result of all these rubbish we now consume.
What was the statistics of those that had this disease in the eighties and early ninties when we used to consume normal foods to the number of those having this disease today?
The painful thing is we are not able to digest these horrible stuffs and we don't fast enough to allow the body get rid of all the rubbish. Rather we consume them on a daily basis over and over again making the kidney to give in to those horrible toxic stuffs.
May God have mercy on us because even the supposed government agencies that should be monitoring these stuffs are too corrupt to put a stop to it.

For those of you supporting your parents back home, how much do you normally send them every month specifically for feeding?

My mum and dad are both retired and receive their pensions. They live in their own house in Ilorin, so no rent involved. Thankfully, no sickness or regular medication expenses either.

I’m mainly trying to work out a realistic monthly amount for food for just the two of them — normal groceries, rice, beans, meat, fish, vegetables, cooking ingredients etc.

With the current prices of food in Nigeria, what would you consider reasonable for two retired people per month?

₦100k? ₦150k? ₦200k? More?

I know everyone’s situation is different, but I’d like to hear from people who actually support their parents or know what two people currently spend on feeding in Nigeria.

Give them as much as you can . There shouldn't be a limit. Any month you feel you can afford more, give them, any month you can afford less give what you can afford .

A pity we now have thugs and killers ruling and making laws for us.
They should try the criminal. It's not enough to just arrest these people committing crimes against the people.
Imagine the shame seeing a criminal shamelessly making his way to the assembly after being caught for electoral fraud.

We deliberately commit crimes and start begging when caught. Then if they are refused, we turn around and label the person as being wicked. That's how we are as a people unfortunately.
