I thought of that but i decided to work for few months to sharpen my skills. But hopefully, i should be getting a raise in the next few weeks..

$500 is poor, but considering the present economic realities in the country, i think it is managable. Just get the experience, improve your CV and move when a better offer comes. Since the lockdown my sleep pattern changed, i am always up from 8pm to 4am and sometimes 5.00am. Then i sleep from then till 1pm. All i will advice you is adjust your sleep pattern and ensure to sleep minimum 7 hours a day for your organs sake.

Very poor for someone of my skill set.. But still opportunities comes but once so the best thing to do is grab it and hope for the better.

Seeing that the company is under development, i didn't want to put the burden of my salary on them so i had a chat with the founder and we discussed about increasing my payment.

After few minutes of convincing him, he agreed on increasing it but in the next few weeks.

Reason why most of these foreign companies prefer remote workers, they will now have to pay less due to exchange rates and difference in purchasing power.
$500 is a week's average work in the US.
Renegotiate that pay!!!!!

We had a chat and i explained things to him about my salary and other stuffs, luckily enough he is the fun type of boss. So he agreed with my terms and i will be paid at a much higher price but not at the moment, but in the next few weeks.

I work for a Californian company too, my work starts at 3:00pm and end at 10:00pm, I have never missed a standup meetings, and I always give an hour heads up if I was ever going to be late for meetings.

One thing my remote team and I agreed on was the time overlap.
So I just go on slack report that I have started working on xyzzy features and by 10:00pm, I go again and tell them what I was able to accomplish and that I'm going to bed. I work as backend using Nodejs and ExpressJs.

EDIT: I saw where you mentioned you earn $500, dude I won't advise you to quit immediately, I would advise you to sharpen your skills and apply to jobs in Australian, Berlin etc. You now have remote work experience.

I've been working remotely for 4 years, my least pay is still $5000. my goal is to hit $10,000 ~ $15,000 per month by 2021 that's why I'm taking algorithm classes.

Sometimes, i look and call myself stupid for accepting such. But Thank God, i had a chat with him and he promised that my salary would increased but not at the moment...

Luckily enough, i got hired as a frontend developer at my former workplace and they used Vue to build their customer products

I have been looking at a particular job opening at Canada though , but i need to gain more experience especially in Cloud computing with Azure, AWS or Cloudinary..

But after discussion with the owner, he said that they just started rebuilding the company name and product since they lost 70% of their income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

So i might be expecting a raise from them in a few weeks or months hopefully.

Well, i applied for the role through indeed but the job opening has been closed.

The name of the company is Ambianic and they are into IOT and robotics.

Great thought.

But still, i still strongly believe in the exploring and learning new technologies to widen your experience because companies of nowadays don't want you only knowing PHP but there are still technologies you will need to learn just to help you boost your experience even though you might not use that new technologies but at least have understanding on it.

For example, i am a backend software engineer and i actively work with nodejs. Though it is enough, but at my workplace, they require me to have knowledge in PHP/Laravel and GraphQL even though i hate PHP.

But either ways, you bring a good point to the table

In US, the average salary of a developer is $5,680 which is x3 lesser than the amount though. But since the situation of things, i will just scale through till i start working onsite for the ocmpany.

We are all used to the normal nairaland design and it is not bad though. And i agree on this saying if it ain't broken, why fix it?

You can do all the sleeping during the day and in the evening you can take some sip of lipton and not coffee. Coffee is injurious to health.

Well, the pay isn't that much $500 per month but it is quite okay for me though.

I would have aksed for more but i am not good at negotiating so i went with the flow.

One thing many developers fail to understand is that no programming languages is going anyway. As old as ASP.net is, big tech companies like Microsoft still uses it to run their products and websites.

Even java which is the grandfather of programming, Google popular products and services like Gmail, Youtube and others still run on Java & SpringBoot.

Programming is flexible.

There is more to remote jobs than you think. Here is my personal experience.

Recently, i received a mail from a remote american tech company that i applied for. I was informed, that an interview will take placed few days, i prepared for the interview and the day came , lot of questions were asked that questioned my experience in web development. Finally the interview was over, but still i felt that i really embarrassed myself and messed up but i kept my fate.

Two days later, i received a mail from the same company where all the company guidelines, workflows and other necessary information i needed to get started were contained.

I resumed work a week after, soon i decided to set up my work environment just for me to realize i will be working actively at midnight from 11:30 - 6:30 due to time zones difference.

So basically, my life was staying on the PC every night and i adapted to it to the extent that i might not use my PC yet i can't sleep at night.

Soon after, i felt ill for 3 days after 4 weeks of sleepless nights and i was advised to reduce my working time and sleep often.

Knowing it was dangerous for my health, i cut my working time to 4AM and i will be off to bed. This step almost cost me my job because i published a new feature to the company product but i didn't include proper documentation of what the feature does and the developers and the members were annoyed with me to that.

Since it was a remote company though they have an office at California, most of their members work remotely, the company meetings are always held on Thursday via Google Meet and i have been marked absent for 3 times in a row which is really bad for my report. I was warned if i miss the next meeting, there is a possibility that i might be on probation or worst relieved of my role.

NB: I work as a frontend developer using Vuejs as my core language.

I actually think it is the other way round.

It is quite cool and amazing even though i haven't used it.

I am more of a nodejs guy and i work with basically two core frameworks in nodejs which are Express and Adonis and they have been very useful to me when building complex web application

Honestly,

I work remotely for an American startup where they provide mentors for students . I chose not to collect payment as a salary but instead compensation for my work through internet connection, access to paid udemy courses and other stuffs.

But, I just got my first developer role in Lagos and according to the employer, the agreed salary stated was 50K.Though i would have opted for more because of my experience but i decided to agree to the price since it is my first developer role in Nigeria.

So I will be earning 50K monthly for my developer role
