Yea, I did read Unfulfilled Promise, great masterpiece from Audrey, and you will agree with me that, even though the title was not itself self explanatory, it did well to justify the content. In my professional opinion, I think it is very wrong that the title of your story be opposite of its content. I mean, that is just misleading.

Hey pamelB, please indulge me for a moment.

So, I am trying so hard to reconcile the title of your story with the content you developed. See, the story is titled "ALONE" and not "NOT ALONE". Forgive me, but the theme the title present is that of tragedy and not happily ever after, which I am guessing the latter is actually what you want to convey. This is a beautiful piece, no doubt, with all the tragic sub plots used to interweave this piece, but I believe that the title of a piece should not just be the idea and heart of it, it should also convey, in true sense, the message of the piece. Except maybe you still have plans to make everyone die in some mysterious way, leaving Amanda alone, aside that, I don't think the title is doing a enough justice to the story.

But hey, don't mind me. I probably don't know what I am saying.

In all, it was nice. Please don't be offended by my review.

Before I make public the winner, I want to apologise for all my shortcomings during this event process. In my bid to quickly rush this, I did not plan this very well, and the consequences have been slapping me in the face ever since, but I managed to see how we can go forward with this and plan for a better one.

I am to sincerely apologise to everyone who believe this event was organised poorly. I know it was.

But it can only get better with your help.

Next year event, by God's help would be better and bigger than this. I can assure you that. Plans would be made public on how that will happen.

So, please, accept my apology.
Literature / Re: Literature Person Of The Year Award. (lpoty) UPDATED! by theorbiters: 7:37pm On Jan 05, 2016
Good evening Ladies and gentlemen. You are welcome to the most prestigious event. I want to appreciate everyone for coming. It is a great honour.

Okay, let me give a small speech. Abeg no vex.

We are gathered here to honour everyone in this section, and to give recognition to that person who we deem has been outstanding in the past year. I must say, everyone deserve this award.

The Literature Person Of The Year award is given to that person who has been influential in this section for the past year, not just with the written stories, but also with impacting and helping other people, but then, what is Literature?

Literature is a term used to describe written and sometimes spoken material. Derived from the Latinlitteratura meaning "writing formed with letters," literature most commonly refers to works of the creative imagination, including poetry, drama, fiction, non-fiction, journalism, and in some instances, song.

Why do we read literature?

Simply put, literature represents the culture and tradition of a language or a people. It's difficult to precisely define, though many have tried, but it's clear that the accepted definition of literature is constantly changing and evolving.
For many, the word literature suggests a higher art form, merely putting words on a page doesn't necessarily mean creating literature.

But what we consider to be literature can vary from one generation to the next. For instance, Herman Melville's 1851 novel Moby Dick was considered a failure by contemporary reviewiers. However, it's since been recognized as a master work, and is frequently cited as one of the best works of western literature for its thematic complexity and use of symbolism to tell the story of Captain Ahab and the white whale. By reading Moby Dick in the present day, we can gain a fuller understanding of literary traditions in Melville's time.

In this way, literature is more than just a historical or cultural artifacts, but can serve as an introduction to a new world of experience.

Why is literature important?

Ultimately, we may discover meaning in literature by looking at what the author writes or says, and how he or she says it. We may interpret and debate an author's message by examining the words he or she chooses in a given novel or work, or observing which character or voice serves as the connection to the reader. In academia, this decoding of the text is often carried out through the use of literary theory, using a mythological, sociological, psychological, historical, or other approach to better understand the context and depth of a work.

Works of literature, at their best, provide a kind of blueprint of human civilisation. From the writings of ancient civilisations like Egypt, and China, to Greek philosophy and poetry; from the epics of Homer to the plays of Shakespeare, from Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte to Maya Angelou, works of literature give insight and context to all the world's societies.

Whatever critical paradigm we use to discuss and analyse it, literature is important to us because it speaks to us, it is universal, and it affects us on a deeply personal level. Even when it is ugly, literature is beautiful.

At this point, we are here to recognise that person that brings this long speech I have written closer to us.

Thank you for reading this long and boring speech.

Good day ladies and gentlemen.

First, I want to appreciate you for making this a success. I must say, I am deeply moved by your acts in order to see how we can move this Literature section forward.

I want to thank you all for taking out time to participate in this event, despite the poor planning.

As you are all aware, this isn't perfect, but we can be better. In my bid to quickly do something this important in this section, I committed errors that normally would mar this event, but I am glad you all overlooked my shortcomings and still gave your unrestricted support. I must say, this is comforting.

Thank you once again, and this is coming from my heart.

A big thanks goes to all those who also in one way assisted in making this successful. Thank you for not allowing me to bare the whole burden. I am very grateful.

Okay, enough of this speech, I will give a better one tomorrow.

Now, here are the Top Nominees for the Literature Person Of The Year award.

Ritababe.

Larrysun.

Mattkent.

Repogirl.

DonKross1.

These are the top 5 nominees out of the total 47 nominees. The winner will be made public by 7:30pm on the 5th of Jan. 2016.

Please, forgive me for all the irregularities.

See you all then.

Thank you. God bless you, and God bless Nigeria.

Literature / Literature Person Of The Year Award. (lpoty) UPDATED! by theorbiters: 10:24pm On Dec 30, 2015
Good day ladies and gentlemen.

First let me apologise for bring this so late this year, I could give so many excuses, but let me just say I am sorry for bring this late.

Okay, no too much speech. Straight to the matter.

Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to the first edition of LITERATURE PERSON OF THE YEAR (LPOTY).

I know you already have an idea of what I am trying to do here, so permit me to just state the obvious.

LPOTY is an award given to the most outstanding person in the Literature section. This person could be a writer, a reader or even a moderator that has not only graced this section with meaningful inputs, but has also inspired many to become better.

Writers and readers need to be appreciated, hence the need for this award.

Ladies and gentlemen, this award requires you to nominate that person you think is well deserving of this honour. Next year, it would get better.

Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to this prestigious event.

Note that nominations entries would close on the 3rd of January, and the winner would be made known on the 5th of January.

So, who do think it should be?

i find this initiative laudable but have few reservations. If the criticism is going to be done in another thread away from the original, what guarantees do we have that the writer is going to see it? I've had cases where i get a mention but dont get the notification until another person quotes the first mention. Without the writer seeing that he's been criticised, this place could as well be an avenue for gossips.

Very true. That is why the same criticism would be placed on the writer's original thread.

I am glad you are also on board with this idea.

some people dont even care if their storyline makes sense, they spend more time on the sex part.
no one would take this section serious,if we keep writing like that.

Hence the need for this thread and critics like you. Don't spare the hammer when you need to come down hard on a writer. Don't offer praises when you need to dish out serious criticism. I trust you can also do this.

I am looking forward to working with you on this.
Literature / Re: Literature Section Critic Thread. by theorbiters: 4:34pm On Dec 29, 2015

I just want to ask u two questions.
-In what way do Seun encourages d finest writers u've listed? (I look up to them, my respect to them all, they have all inspired my write-ups). I feel Seun care less about them thinking he has done them a favour by creating a forum for their publicity.

-Did Seun put u up to this? (i can smell his aura on u).

By the way, do Seun really read these things? If yes, then he should quote me.

Good day sir. I can say for a fact that the same way you are concerned, is also, if not more, the same way I am concerned. I wouldn't want us to dabble into the dark waters of whether Mr. Seun cares or not, which I believe he does, but has a hard time showing it. Still, the onus rests on us, moderators, writers and readers alike, to appreciate everyone worthy of honour. Mr. Seun's involvements would go a long way, but let us start with ourselves first. Honestly, I appreciate your effort in this section. I tell you, it has been encouraging, but we can do more.

Okay, for your other question, NO OOOOOO, oga Seun no send me any message oooo!! This idea was born out of much deliberation among writers like you. When a man see that his roof is leaking, he doesn't run away, rather he finds a way to fix it. Trust me, more of this is underway. We just need your assistance, as you have been lending before.

Thank you sir, and I look forward to work with you.

Lol... In as much as you and I share that same view, it would be unfair to place an embargo on writers. Every writer have their genre they are specialised at, so I would rather wish that all writers write creatively, and not just inept fantasy. Still, I am grateful for your contribution.
