Out of curiosity, what brand of ball joints are actually OEM? Heard one called YAMASHIDA when I used it until I changed same after 6months.

When I said visit mechanic more frequently, I meant visit for routine maintenance. Change your ball joint once a year or once in two years, depending on how you drive the car. If you can not get original OEM ball joints, please use tokunbo OEM, for your peace of mind. ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR CAR. If you hear any abnormal sound, go and get it fixed. It will not pass one bushing or another. Original shocks will last for years. Good ball joints will last years.
And please don't buy a poorly maintained naija used Honda, unless you are a mechanic 😁. Nigerians HATE maintaining cars.
And remember, if you want an SUV, buy an SUV. If you want a boat, buy a boat. Don't buy a car and use it as a boat. Cheers.

You'd need at least a good dextron 4 oil. Go to Total petrol station and buy their MVLV transmission fluid for use.

First, I want to say a big thank you to the creator of this forum. I’ve been looking for something like this for years—nice one!

I own my first Honda car, an LX Accord 2013, which I bought as a Nigerian-used vehicle in December 2022. I got it at a very good deal at the time, but deep down, I knew things don’t come that cheap. I was prepared for whatever issues came up! 😄

A week after purchase, the problems started. First, there was oil leakage from the engine, followed by the engine struggling to generate enough power to climb hills. Then, the check engine light and other warning lights popped up—my dashboard was like a Christmas tree! 😅 Upon inspection, the engine was opened up, and it was packed with oil sludge! There were so many issues: the oil pump was faulty, there were piston problems, and more. I decided to replace the engine entirely, and honestly, that was the best decision I made!

After that, I decided to upgrade the look of the car. I transformed it into a 2015 Honda Accord Touring model and replaced the seats with leather. I also installed four brand-new tires, replaced the vapor canister (to resolve the persistent check engine light), changed the spark plugs, brake pads, and steering rack.

To be honest, I didn’t do all the repairs and upgrades at once. It took me about four months to complete everything, costing around ₦1.5m to ₦1.7m in total. But mehn! I fell in love with the car! Money well spent!

Since April 2023, I haven’t had a single check engine light come on. I service the car religiously when the oil life percentage reaches 15%. Maintenance-wise, I always use full synthetic foreign engine oil. For coolant, I stick to the original Honda Long Life Coolant Type 2. I’m very cautious about what goes into the engine—engine don cost oo! 😅

Regarding fuel consumption, I always refill the tank when it gets to half. I’ve never let it go below that point—it’s easier and costs less that way. On average, I get around 170 to 190 miles from a full tank to half. It costs me about ₦35k to ₦40k to fill it up from half.

Currently, I’m planning to get a Honda CR-V EX-L 2018. 😁

Before I forget, a big shout-out to my mechanic, Alhaji Muri! He’s the most honest and respectful mechanic I’ve ever worked with. He’s especially good with electrical issues and has plenty of diagnostic tools to tackle any problem. Another shout-out to My Parts Nigeria, where I get my engine oil, filters, coolant, and other parts—they sell genuine products imported from the USA.

OK. Let me know if it works for you. Though I tried.it once. I'll try it again

I have similar Issues. The buttons on my key not responding, battery seem OK. I took it To Oyingbo and the guy said it's the panel and that I must change it but I wasn't comfortable with tampering with the panel. But I will wait for further advice based on your post here.

I experienced this problem early this year. I woke up in the next day only to discover my honda accord wasn't responding to Fob keyless entry. At first I thought they stole my car battery or the battery was dead. Until I open it with the key and noticed the battery is intact then i start the car. It starts at once but the buttons on the fob not responding.

So I thought maybe the battery on the fob is dead. Just because I used it the previous night. It was what I used to lock the car. So I open the fob and removed the battery then test it with my tongue.

It has some little low charge. Then I put back the battery. The car makes a sound immediately I put back the battery. But when I pressed the buttons it didn't respond. I removed the battery several times but it doesn't that sound again or respond to press.

So I just leave it till I will buy another battery. Yesterday I bought a new battery and When you insert battery it blink red light just once. But the car doesn't respond. I have removed and insert multiple things it doesn't respond.

What could be the problem. I need help

There was a time I was having this code showing up too on my EOD after I bought a new 02 sensor. All I did was to unplug and plug back the 02 switch and the code disappeared, but I had a Chinese catalyst installed.

Your own case is quite dicey because you do not have a catalyst. And there's no way that code will come up and it won't bring out CEL.

Anyway I'll advice you rescan your car, and if the 02 sensor shows up, you need to get it replaced. But if all the code you have is just about the catalyst, then I'll suggest you get the Chinese one installed in your car, it does the job and I've been using mine for 2yrs plus. Two months ago when I asked for the price it was sold for 45k, I don't know what it goes for now.

Thanks for this thread. For me I use the EOD and sometimes ago when I fuel my car, I get the PO420 "Catalytic Converter below threshold bank 2" I have no catalyst. So does it mean I have to get the Chinese one or change oxygen sensor. My fuel economy not too good. Though no CEL anymore.

This catalytic converter issue is one topic that i find really amazing especially in Nigeria.

Series of opinions have been gotten differently on it.

Here isy submission:

-Catalyst is purely an emission/climate control initiative

-Catalyst in my own opinion helps with conservation of fuel because when your air/fuel mixture is correct, the ECU doesn't need to pump more fuel into the engine to gain optimum performance. However I think this relates to vehicles that have both upstream and downstream catalysts

-Nigeria has a country doesn't have a strict emissions control body, therefore de-catting is indirectly encouraged. Also due to the price of catalyst in the market, you can get spacers as an alternative for catalyst but finding the one that works is a task these days. In my own case, I got a Chinese complete Catalyst, it does the job and the check engine light isn't showing on my dashboard but it gets corrupted after some time (2yrs) and then start to show check engine light.

- Side note: When using an original complete Catalyst, it's also prone to getting blocked after few years and when not detected early, it causes serious damage to the engine if not careful.

To keep it simple - unless you drive a lot of highway miles for every drive with minimal idling, oil change should be done every 5,000 miles or 6 months for modern cars, whichever comes first.. I change my car oil every 6-7months and I mostly drive it on weekends only. I drive less than 1000miles every 6months. Changing your oil every 2-3months is a total waste of money. Some synthetic oil can go as much as 10,000miles for 1year. I have been using Pennzoil for 3years and it's been wonderful. Quiet engine all the time.

It seems you pamper your car 🚗 or weekend car . My advice is change the oil every 3months plz don't wait till 6months. Once you using quality brand of oil and full synthetic. You should be ok 👍

Hi Dru. Well done. I'm not sure you do other brand of oil except Mobil right? Also if you don't drive every day, let's say mostly weekend, city driving. Can you service every 4-6months if you use Synthetic oil?

Yes you can still use any of the two.. It is less thicker than the sae40 . And you still be burning more fuel and over working the oil pump...

The only advantage you have is time .. It will give you a little more time before the engine packs up .. And also you still need to change the oil every 3k miles.....

no they checked and told me my catalyst is intact.so it was just sensor.As I speak my guage is where it was since Monday and that’s the car my wife uses for school runs.The effect was magical.

Did you also include Catalyst after changing sensors? Or just sensors

my matrix almost killed me before I attended to it.car was consuming fuel more than a tundra.All I did was change the exhaust sensor and that’s it.the two cost me 30k.Car is so efficient now.

They should come to Ijora, Mile 12, Mile 2, Apapa, Orile, Alapere and see Open defecation in it's best form. They should arrest these guys. Also Urinating in Public places eg on the road, should also be a crime.
