Religion / Re: Why Did Jesus Call For The Killing Of Children? by theration: 6:04pm On Jul 08, 2009
Romeo4rea1:

Yes, its me Romeo4real. I will keep creating new id’s to combat the delusion and fallacies Hux and Tpaine are spouting on these posts. So here goes.

Hello. It is the poster former known as Huxley, Huxley2, Tpaine and therationa. Ok, here we go.

Huxley or Tpaine or whatever ur name is, We can all see what ur doing. Everytime ur argument is shown to be spurious, you move the goalposts hoping no one noticed.
So its now a moral issue right? That wasn't ur initial argument. Remember. And where did you exactly get you parameters to judge morality from? Could it have been from the Bible? If not, can u please tell us? B'cos ur argument are now becoming convoluted.

Why do you think I was questioning the killing of anyone, child, adult, man or woman, especially for something as trivial as disobeying their parents? What issue do you think I was questioning?

Of course, I was questioning the act of killing. What else could I have been question? And killing is a moral issue. So it was and has also been a moral issue?

I get my parameters to judge morality from the same place you get yours, which is certainly NOT the bible. If you got your morality from the bible then you would be practicing some of the most reprehensible injunctions from the bible. I assume you are a relatively decent human being, so you do not practice these. I have many threads here that discuss the many immoralities in the bible - if you want I could bring a couple of them up again.

Are you thick or what? Why are you asking the same question already answered? Read my previous ans - In all the passages, it is clear the speaker is speaking to, and thereby referring to an adult audience, not children.

Show me where it say that those to whom these commandments were binding are adults with parents? You have not done this.

If you tell a group of adult to “honour their parents”. Would they assume you are speaking to all children, including babies, those who cant speak yet, cant walk yet, or those who cant understand yet, or to the adults who are listening? Go figure
What is exactly is ur stance? Do you accept it meant “Adults” or “children”, as you cannot argue both sides of the issue simultaneously? Anyway, the cut off age is the age of the audience being addressed – They are all adults who understand what is being said, and the context. This is surely simple to grasp?

I am not arguing both side. I an trying to see how consistent your arguments are. If this commandments was meant for adults with parents, then we should see how it fits in with all the other commandments. And if there were any special commands for people not considered adults.

Take for instance, a 12 years old child who infringed any of the commandments like disobeying their parents, violating the sabbath laws, killing another person, or worshiping another god. Do you think they would have been spared the sanctions of the law?

Can you explain Lev 27: 29. Here is it below, can you attempt it again.

27And if it be of an unclean beast, then he shall redeem it according to thine estimation, and shall add a fifth part of it thereto: or if it be not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to thy estimation. 28Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto the LORD of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD. 29 None devoted, which shall be devoted of men, shall be redeemed; but shall surely be put to death. 30And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD. 31And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof.

I submit that this is clearly human sacrifice.

horse703:

theration first of all jesus did not have only twelve disciples, he had more than twelve and they shuld have definitely included women. what do u mean by fabrication, who fabricated and why? prove it please. the samaritan woman also described herself as a dog what do u say about that. please this conversation was a metaphorical conversation between the two and both understood each other. u seem to be very informed about scientific issues theration but u cannot understand the bible the same way u do scientific issues im a scientist(biologist) i know

Well, we all know that Jesus had a select group of close companions, made of 12 individuals, who were all MEN. These were the companion who were at the Last Super, the Pentacost, etc. None of these were WOMEN. PERIOD. To be sure, he had followers who were women, but the core group were all MEN.

Biblical fabrications and corruption was quite common. As for this story, if you have got a recently published bible, turn to John 7:53 to John 8:11 where might see warning concerning this story. Also visit the site http://www.religioustolerance.org/john_8.htm for further details.
Religion / Why Are Post Disappearing From Threads And Accounts Being Banned? by theration: 11:33pm On Jul 07, 2009
Why are posts disappearing from some threads and accounts being banned for posting on these threads?  Is this a bug or is the spam filter come mad or an overzealous moderator?

For instance, the thread Why Did Jesus Call For The Killing Of Children? has been render unpostable either by a bug, the spam filter or the moderator, even for posts that ordinarily does not fall foul of any of the rules. What is happening?

Hello and nice to hear you views about your beliefs or lack there of. I think you are doing the right thing in subject the notion of god and religion to critical examination. Wish you plenty of gusto in your search for answers.

Having said that, allow me to make a number of observation on your original post:

Owu gal:

Its not that I do not believe in God, afterall, I find it hard to believe the universe is a result of random events. I refuse to believe even that. I think it takes faith to believe in evolution and that evolution is a religion in itself and I just dont believe in evolution; it's too much left to chance for my faith to carry.

At face value, evolution is one of the most counter-intuitive of concepts. I hope you are not conflating the theory of biological evolution with the theory of "cosmic evolution". Biological evolution by Natural Selection explains the diversity of life on the planet while Cosmic evolution explain the origin and subsequent complexity of the cosmos. These are two different things that are driven by very different mechanisms.

Now, allow me to help you with thinking about biological evolution, by considering the following questions:

1) How old do you think the earth is?

2) How old is life on earth?

3) Where and how is petroleum fuel made in nature. How long does the process take?

4) Do you know what dinosaurs are? What happen to them?

5) What are fossils?

6) What is the following 1) The Cambrian Period, 2) The Precambrian, 3) The Jurassic ?

7) Why are there exactly NO fossils of mammals and birds in Pre-cambrian rocks?

8.) Do you know what Kangaroos are and where they are found naturally?

9) Why do some whales have fully developed hind legs?

10) Have you heard of an event in the history of the earth called The End-Permian Extinction event?

I hope you consider these questions in some depth and I would really like to exchange view with you if you so wish.

But I also dont believe God or any god cares about people or the world. I dont think he/she is interested in us. I also do not believe in organized religion even though if I were to commit to any religion I would commit to christianity simply because of what Jesus said; that the greatest commandment is love thy neighbor as thyself. Also being a woman, I feel that Jesus was the first Woman's right activist in that he stopped some hypocritical men from stoning a woman and he also drank water from a samaritan woman who had been re-married multiple times. As a feminist, I am totally a fan of Jesus.

Jesus may have said the "Love your neighbour" commandment, but that was hardly original nor unique to him. In fact, if anything, Jesus "stole" it from the Old testament, Leviticus 19: 18. Further, Greek humanist such as Socrates made similar pronouncements many hundreds of years before Jesus.

Am an surprise you consider Jesus to be very pro-woman. Amongst his 12 apostles, none was a woman. Why did he not show that way be elevating the status of women in his society, by selecting at least one woman into the ranks of the 12? Just as he said nothing against the institution of slavery, Jesus showed little special attention to the plight of women.

In fact, in one occasion he describes a Samaritan woman who was looking for some favours from Jesus, as a "DOG", and that his favours were not available to non-Jews.

Jesus's divorce laws forbids a divorce woman from re-marrying.

The story of the woman caught in adultery is fabrication and was not in the original manuscripts of the Gospel of John.

The new testament forbids women from speaking in churches and requires them to be submissive to their husbands.

It further says that women are saved through child-birth.

There's more. Jesus and his doctrine does not bode well for the women folk, I submit.
Religion / Does God Prescribes And Demand Human Sacrifice In The Bible? by theration: 9:41pm On Jul 07, 2009
I submit that it does. Let us turn to Levitucus 27: 29.

let us see what Lev 27: 29 (KJV) actually says:

I submit that this is a classic case of god demanding human sacrifice.
