News of domestic abuse has always been a hot topic, especially because it is often received with emotionally. Domestic abuse is fairly common but it often avoids the prying eyes of the media because those suffering from it prefer to remain silent. The victim of this incident of domestic abuse was 35 year old Okamaka Deborah Johnson. Deborah had married Godspower despite being warned strictly against this by their parents. The girl was in love. However she would later regret her decision after Godspower began to physically abuse her moments after getting married. Deborah was a 500 level Optometry student at this time and she was asked to withdraw from her studies by her abusive husband.

The beating that occured on the 21st of March, 2019 culminated into severe fractures which would later claim her life. Even though Deborah was rushed to the hospital, the medical professionals there could not save her life as she gave up the ghost some days after she was rushed to the hospital.

2. Kazeem Yusuf
The victim in this particular case was Raimot, the wife of Kazeem Yusuf. The cause of the disagreement which lead to the man beating up his wife is unknown but we can certainly imagine that it was not the first time the man had done such.

As the reports went, Raimot was reported to have fainted and died while fetching water. Her husband was the one who made the report at the hospital. Authorities made investigations and discovered marks of beating believed to have been inflicted by Kazeem. As Kazeem noticed that his secret might soon be discovered, he fled the scene.

It would be Saturday in three days time and I still haven't asked my mother for permission to go. She wouldn't let me go, I assumed. She never let me go anywhere. She is just too... what's the word? "Who's there?", I heard my mother shout as she quickly drew some clothes over herself. I wondered why she asked that question when there could only be one answer. She was aware that I was indoors and even though I was not an only child, my only sibling, my elder brother was studying in the University of Lagos.

"It's me, mama", I walked in, still walking gingerly but slowly this time, sort of like a puppy that was recently scolded.

"Oh", she sighed. "I thought there was a buglar."

In my mind, I laughed. Why would any buglar want to burgle a mud house when there are several mansions stone throws away.

"What do you want?", She asked as she began to wear her clothes. She didn't need to hide herself. We were of the same gender. When she saw that I didn't say anything, she asked in her usual loud voice, "I asked you a question, Tayo."

"I...I...errm...", I didn't know why I was stammering. My hands began to shake vigorously.

My mom watched me for a while then asked again, "What do you want?"

I still couldn't say anything reasonable. My stammering went on. My shaking became more vigorous.



"You can't go", my mom said. I stared at her. What did she mean? Where can't I go? "You can't go to that party. I forbid you."

"Is this woman a witch? How did she know I came here to ask her about the party?", I asked in my mind. I didn't recall telling her about it.

"I saw the invitation on your vanity. You can't go. It's too dangerous."

"When is it never dangerous for me to go somewhere?" I don't know what came over me but for the first time in forever I actually talked back at her. I don't know where the courage came from.



"Young woman, what has gotten into you? How dare you talk back to me? Listen and listen well, you will not go to that party."

"But, mum...", I paused. The word "mom" sounded strange to me. Was she really my mother? Why does she always prevent me from doing the things I loved.

Stress is something that happens to everyone. Even those that have the whole world under their feet get stressed from time to time.

2. I gossip with friends


Gossipping or talking (for those who think they don't) can help you relieve stress. Of there is something worth gossiping about, you should it with a friend.

Speaking about friends, it is one of the ways to relieve stress although it would not be mentioned in this article. So, those of you who are reading this who do not have friends should make one. Having friends is rarely a bad thing.

3. I ride my bicycle around town


This is a cool way to relieve stress and exercise at the same time. Riding a bicycle would get you fit and take away you stress too. If you do not have a bike, you can walk around town with someone.

4. I talk to myself


No, I am not insane. I am a completely normal person. It might sound weird to you but talking to yourself actually helps to relieve stress. Talk to yourself about something that excites you. Avoid any topic that reminds you of the stress you have. It works for me, I guess it should work....

The animals you see on the farm today were once wild animals. The chicken for example has a long history with the jungle. Its ancestor, the junglefowl was wild but years of being in contact with humans have made the chicken less scared of humans and less likely to run away at the sight of us. The animals in this article are wild yet they still find a place on some farms.

What are they reared for?
Farm animals are reared for three main reasons and the reasons are not so different for these animals either. These animals are reared:

1. For their meat,
2. For their skin, fur and hides,
3. For their milk.

Now that we have gone through the boring introduction and have also talked about the reasons why these animals are reared, we can now go into our listicles. The following are wild animals that you won't believe are farm animals:

1. Crocodiles


Crocodiles are big reptilian killing machine. Their bite force is rated as one of the highest of any creature on the planet. Their method of killing is vicious and cold blooded, just like the class of creatures they belong to. They bite down on their prey with such a bite force that can crush bones and then roll their body in the famous "death roll".


With all the above, most people would find it strange that anyone would house a crocodile let alone rear it. If you found that weird, then you would be shocked to know that crocodile farming is one of the most lucrative types of farming in recent time.


Asia and Africa are two continents where crocodile farming enjoys fair popularity and ever increasing demand.

What do farmers gain from rearing crocodiles
Although the risk of getting maimed is high, crocodile farming is actually lucrative. Crocodiles are reared for their skin. Crocodile farming is a major contributor to the global luxury market for designer handbags, belts, shoes and accessories made of leather.

2. Alligators


Like crocodiles, alligators are also reared. Alligators are no less dangerous than crocodiles and rearing them is just as risky. There are a lot of similarities between crocodile farming and alligator farming. For this reason, I won't speak much about it.


The alligator farming industry is not as popular as the crocodile farming industry but it is just as lucrative. According to Wikipedia, in Louisiana alone, alligator farming is a $60 to $70 million industry. Imagine how much that would be in the world of America.

Human beings are categorized on one basic disparity— their gender. In most societies, you are either male or a female. When you are a male, you are either a potential husband or an husband already. When you are a female, almost the same applies to you. Whether you become a potential spouse of someone however depends on your choice.




It is noteworthy to mention that between the male and female gender, it is arguable to describe the female as the one who receives the most attention. This is especially for females who are within the 18-35 age group. This explains why most of their actions are given so much attention. Often times, one slight movement of their hands can be interpreted or even misinterpreted in thousands of ways. There are many more female physical behaviours be that suffer these misinterpretations. One of such physical behaviours is a woman biting her lower lips.


Men often wonder what it means when a lady bites her lower lips. This can be explained and it is not totally far from what you are probably thinking.



Unless there's something wrong with her lips, a lady would rarely bites her lips. However, things would normally change if such a lady is in the presence of a man she likes. Humans are social beings and a vast majority of our social uniqueness is exhibited by the females. In order to attract the attention of a man to herself, a lady would usually not express herself verbally but instead opt for more orthodox ways— behavioural physical movements. One of such behavioural movements is biting of the lower lips.

Goats don't change colour.

In the animal world, there are predators everywhere. Without a bit of mother nature's tinkering, a little critter and even a big fluffy animal does not stand a chance. An animal needs to have at least one defensive adaptation; it could be pointy spikes sprouting from their skin, it could be the ability to make a run for it when their predators come too close or it could be the ability to change the colouration of their body as quick as a flash.

An animal's ability to change colour depends on environmental stimuli, light being the most often observed. These changes are controlled by the two communication and communication systems: the neuronal and endocrine systems.

Why do animals change anyway?
Animals change colour for many reasons. I will only mention three in this article but there are lots more.

1. To evade the attention of predators
Not all animals are as fast as the cheetah or as tough as the honey badger. Some animals are really slow, like the chameleon for example. The chameleon cannot use lightening speed or brute strength to stand up to its predators. Instead, they would prefer to go unnoticed. In order to blend in with their surroundings, they occasionally need to change their colour.

2. To display aggression


Again, our very colourful friends, the chameleon shall be used as an example. Chameleons, like almost every other animal fight. They fight over mate, over territory and even over food.

In the animal world, colours speak louder than words. Well, animals can't actually talk anyway. The colour of a certain animal can tell another animal that animal's mood and countenance. Colours are used to communicate willingness to mate and aggression.

Chameleon are more likely to have a colour battle than to fight an actual battle. It is less energy consuming.

3. As a response to seasonal change
There are a lot more animals that can change colours than you think. It is just that animals like the chameleon are more famous than most of them. Apart from changing colour to avoid predators and to display aggression, animals can also change colours because of the season.


My favourite example for this phenomenon is the stoat. The stoat is an animal that is a cousin to the weasel. They understandably look alike. Stoats have white colours in the winter and then change their colour to the more commonly seen brown. During the winter, their white fur blends in the snow and the brown, as you guessed, blends in with the summer beauty.

Listicles classifies animals that have the ability to change colours into three simple groups:
1. Slow changers

These animals take a really long time to change colour, usually over a period of months. They change colours as a response to the seasons. An example is the stoat.

2. Quick changers

A chameleon
An example is the Chameleon. This kind of animals can change colour in less than half a minute. That is a big difference from the first category which takes much longer.

3. Super quick changers
These class of animals are even more faster than the previous category when it comes to colour changes. It is often fuelled by adrenaline; the emergency hormone. An example is the Chameleon Sand tilefish. Sounds like the Chameleon has a copycat; only that the copycat is better than the original.

Let us now focus on what brought us all here. We present to you six animals that you probably didn't know could change colours:

1. Chameleons
Chameleons are perhaps the most popular reptiles apart from alligators and crocodiles. They belong to a family that contains so many individuals; they are lizards.


Chameleons can change the colour of their body in order to blend in with their environment. They are not particularly fast like other agile lizards (take the agama lizard for example) so they don't stand a chance if they are spotted. However, you can't chase what you don't see. The chameleons use this to their advantage.

How do Chameleons change their body colour?


The chameleon actually uses a simple technique to change colours. They simply adjust a layer of specialized cells underlying their skin. These cells can cause the wavelength of light to change.

Chameleons are really cute creatures. They make lovely pets especially because they don't run away. They are also really good at playing hide and seek. They do the hiding, you do the seeking.

2. Mimic Octopus
Octopuses are cute animals. They, unlike us, have eight arms. That is six more than we do. In addition to these, they have suckers on the arms so if you get caught by an hungry man-eating octopus, you are more likely to die than live.


Octopuses can change colours too. In fact, most octopuses can but none does it better than the mimic Octopus. This creature is named so because of its habit of mimicking almost anything. They can mimic corals, they can mimic cuttlefishes, they can even mimic a guitar player (just kidding). They do all this mimicry to avoid hungry predators. Yes, octopuses have predators too.

Mimic octopuses, like Chameleons can change colours. They do so in less than half a minute too.

3. Pacific Tree frog
Tree frogs are frogs too. They are just different because they prefer to spend their time among trees. They can attach theirselves to leaves thanks to their light weight streamlined body.

The Pacific Tree frog, a type of tree frog which lives in most parts of the North American continent can change colours too. Within 1-2 minutes, a Pacific Tree frog can change its body colour. They change colours in response to temperatures and seasons. Its predators which are an awfully long list are normally avoided by the frog's impressive camouflaging ability.

4. Sea horses
Sea horses are not horses, they are actually fishes. You are surprised? I wish you could see my face when I found out too. Sea horses are also slow, horses are fast. Again, we notice a big difference.

Concerning colour changes, sea horses can colour because of special organelles called Chromatophores. These Chromatophores change their properties thereby affecting the colouration of the animal. Chromatophores are also found in Chameleons.

Sea horses can change their colour so that they can be more appealing to potential mates and so that they can "disappear" from predators. The latter process is more rapid than the former.

5. Cuttlefish


Like Octopuses who are their cousins, Cuttlefishes can change colour. They do this in order to observe prey without being seen and also in order to avoid predators.


The ability of a cuttlefish to change colour is due to two process; the presence of chromatophores and the presence of papillae in their skin. The papillae's can be altered to change the roughness or smoothness of the cuttlefish's skin. The whole process is controlled and coordinated by the nervous system of the cephalopod.

6. Squid


The mimic octopus and the cuttlefish are not the only cephalopods that made our list. The squid is another animal that comes from that family. All cephalopods have something weird about them. The octopus has eight arms, the cuttlefish has weird eyes and the squid has three hearts. Their blood is also not red like other normal animals. They do not possess haemoglobin which causes the blood of animals to appear red. Their blue blood is thick and therefore difficult to move without the presence of more than one heart.

In order to avoid predators, squids would change their skin colour. This, like virtually every other animal on this list, is thanks to the presence of chromatophores in their skin. If only we humans had chromatophores too. Then we could change colours as we like.

When we consider the diversity of culture and people on this planet, we cannot help but say that planet Earth is indeed a crazy planet. Sometimes, you discover some cultures that is just too weird for you to handle. It's because of Earth's diversity that you consider somethings exotic.



Food is an important element of a particular culture. Many cultures have their own distinct food and most of them are just too strange for an outsider to eat. It is this weird food that we are going to be looking at in this article.

Of course, we are very certain that you wouldn't eat them but if you were offered all of them, which one would you choose?

1. Puffer fish


Do we have any animal enthusiast reading this beautiful Opera News Hub article? Yes? If so, then you must be aware of how poisonous a puffer fish is. The animal is named so because it would suck in water and inflate like a ball of threatened. Animals that do eat the pufferfish end up dying a painful death.

Despite this deadly reputation, the pufferfish is actually a delicacy in Japan. Japan is a South East Asia country. The consumption of this fish is very risky as if it is not cooked properly, it could lead to death of the consumer. For this reason, only highly trained chefs are allowed to cook a Sashimi dish made from pufferfish.

Would you put your life on the line if you were offered this food?

2. Casu Marzu


They don't call it Cazu Marzu for nothing. Just kidding, I don't know why they call it that but what I know about this odd looking food is that it is made from Cheese. That doesn't sound so bad, does it? Well, that is until you hear that inside the cheese are live maggots. I know how I feel when I see maggots but to imagine eating it, I will rather jump on a moving train.

The lovers of this dish claim that the maggots give the meal a special flavour. Well, would you eat it?

3. Tuna eyeball


A tuna is a very big fish. Actually, it is one of the fastest fish in the sea and that is not an exaggeration. A tuna's eyeball is what is used to prepare the dish you see above.

If you were offered this food, would you eat it?

4. Snake wine


Although we termed this compilation around food, we just couldn't resist adding this beverage to the list. It is just too buzzard to ignore.

Snake wine is made by adding venomous (or poisonous) snakes to ethanol. Ethanol is just a name we scientists love to call alcohol. Normally, the venom of these snakes would kill you but strangely, those who consume snake wine don't die. Why is this? It is simple, the ethanol neutralizes the poison and makes the wine safe to drink.

So, would you drink this if you were offered?

5. Cod’s sperm


As it goes with listicles, the best is usually the last. Also from South Asian country, Japan, this bizarre dish actually looks more delicious than it looks. Lovers of this fish testified to it's unique creamy taste. I'm not sure what Nigerians or Africans would think of that. Would you eat it?

Now let us ask this question: if you were offered all of these food at once, which one would you choose to eat?

1. Give her gentle kisses

Kissing is romantic but it once it becomes expected, it losses its flair. However, you can do the unexpected and wake your wife up with a gentle kiss. Seriously, try it. You would enjoy it and your wife would too. Her mood would be great for the day.

2. Gently wake her up in the morning by softly calling her name

Every one has a busy schedule these days. Some don't even have schedules but they still have really tough days. This is why many sleep. Sleep is enjoyable when it is deserved. Don't be a bad person by interrupting your wife's sleep violently. Gently tap her to wake up. Call her name gently. It is actually romantic when you do this.

3. Tell her the magic words: "I love you"

If just one word can change a person, imagine what three can do. The words that are often exchanged between people in a romantic relationship is the "magic one": the "I love you".

Try saying this to your wife in the morning. She will smile and probably hug you. Makes sure you are sincere when you say it by the way.


Doing all these gives your relationship that much needed spark. Try doing them and you might be surprised with how much romance would start sprouting up in your relationship.
