Today know as PTSD(post traumatic stress disorder) soldiers got shell shock due to constant days of bombardment.This British soldier is smiling in the face of death.

all of the men pictured in this photo, going over the top at the start of the Battle of the Somme in 1916, were killed or wounded within minutes.

This photo sums up the start of WW1 - the innocence of an age that still thought war was glorious, cheering its doom and the onset of their misery and suffering, as crowds across Europe celebrated the announcement of what they thought would be a brief conflict. One cheering celebrant in particular bears note

Do these men look like criminals? Do they look like soldiers? Are they wearing uniforms? Do they look fearless, or are they scared? They're just ordinary people and they're going to die for a reason they probably don't know because of a war they had nothing to do with.

I feel this photograph is one of the most iconic photos of the 20th century and arguably the most sobering photo imaginable.

The picture dates to sometime in the summer of 1941 in Ukraine. It depicts in the simplest and starkest terms exactly what war means and what war is. The young man is a trooper in the Einsatzgruppen, a corps of paramilitaries tasked by the Nazi command with ‘liquidating undesirables’ from all newly conquered territories. They followed behind Hitlers conquering horde and more than any other element of Hitler’s ranks made the twisted visions of National Socialism come to life. The horrifying irony is that this meant murder on a scale never seen before and hopefully never seen again.

The unidentified young mother and child were two of the countless human beings that were ripped from their existence by the unprecedented wave of cruelty that engulfed the world between 1914 - 1954.

If war has a face, I feel even it would be streaked with tears should it ever gaze upon this image.

I just threw up immediately she opened up , I tried holding it in , I couldn't , went to the bathroom spent few minutes there , came out , told her to dress up I was not comfortable doing the deed anymore with her .
