It appears Australian hostage negotiator Dennis Stephen isn't done making outrageous and some would say 'eye-opening' claims. Just a day after he claimed that former Borno state Gov, Alimodu Sheriff and an unnamed retired army chief are sponsors of Boko Haram, he's now claiming that the insurgent group if funded through the CBN. According to reports, Boko Haram militants are beheading young men in the Christian community in Gwoza, the Borno town that the insurgent group recently took over and declared an Islamic caliphate.

Doctors say most necks have 7 vertebrae but 15 year old Chinese boy Fu Wengui (pictured above) has 10. As a young boy he was diagnosed with Congenital Scoliosis and an abnormal chest frame which made his neck grow extra three inches. This causes him a lot of pain and makes it hard for Fu to walk. Congenital scoliosis is caused by the bones in the spine developing abnormally in the womb.

"He always causes a stir when he's out. The vertebrae press on the nerves in his neck and make it difficult for him to walk." his dad, Genyou said

Fortunately for Fu, after his situation was made public, a Beijing-based charity agreed to finance a procedure and treatment. He will have corrective surgery that will hopefully reduce the length of his neck and ease the discomfort.

While Nigerians are still sad over the death of Stella Adadevoh, another doctor, who secretly treated a diplomat who had contact with the Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, has died of Ebola in Nigeria.

The doctor, who has yet to be named, died on Friday. His wife has taken ill and has been quarantined in Port Harcourt. Interestingly, the diplomat the doctor treated is still alive.

The diplomat, who was part of the team who met Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, flew to Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State for treatment, evading government surveillance for the disease. The late doctor then took him to a hotel for treatment.

Consequently, 70 people have been quarantined. The doctor's hospital, Good Heart Hospital in Rivers State, has been shut down. The unnamed hotel, where the secret treatment took place, has also been shut down.

The Minister of health and Rivers State government are expected to make a statement on the incident.

Fresh hope appears in the horizon for Ebola patients as Japan on Monday expressed its readiness to provide its anti-influenza drug as treatment for the deadly virus.

Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga, made the offer hours after a group of scientist in the United Kingdom said it had discovered that the largest outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease was caused by an infected fruit bat that bit a toddler.

Briefing journalists in Tokyo on Monday, Suga said Japan was ready to offer the drug, Favipiravir, which was developed by Toyama Chemical, a subsidiary of Fujifilm, any time the World Health Organisation requested it. Following the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in Nigeria, many banks have introduced new measures to curtail the spread of dreaded disease.

Investigation revealed that among the new preventive measures introduced by some of the Nigerian banks are self-dispensing hand sanitisers, and body temperature scanners at all their branches in the country.

Checks also revealed that some of the banks have introduced protective gears for members of its staffs especially those who deal directly with customers.

According to a notice to customers released by WEMA on Monday, 25 August, 2015, the bank said henceforth all customers and visitors to any branch of the bank would be required to use the hand sanitisers and be scanned for symptoms of fever before being admitted into their banking halls.

Nigeria will now have 54 states as against the present 36 states should President Goodluck Jonathan implement the recommendation of the National Conference contained in the final report submitted to the President last week.

According to the recommendation on creation of additional states, “Alteration of section 3 Section 3 of the principal Act is altered – (a) by replacing the existing subsection (1) with the following as new subsection (1)
-”(1) There shall be fifty-four states in Nigeria, that is to say, Aba, Abia, Adada, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Amana, Anarribra, Anioma, Apa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Edu, Piciti, Enugu, Etiti, Ghari, Gombe, Gurara, Ijebu, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kainji, Kano, Katagum, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, New Oyo, Njaba-Anim, Niger, Ogoja, Ogun, Oil Rivers, Ondo, Ose, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Savannah, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara,” and (b) by deleting subsections) (2) and (6); and ( c) in subsection (3) by replacing the word “third” with the word “second.”

The long standing agitation for the creation of a mayoral status for the Federal Capital City was approved, just as additional two area councils were approved for the FCT in addition to the existing six area councils with strong warning that all compensations be paid.

The conference also resolved that the Minister of Finance, not the President will now present the annual budget to the National Assembly, even as it threw out recommendation for a unicameral legislature and voted that the bi-cameral legislature be maintained.

The report also stated that public schools taken over by various state governments across the country 42 years ago would henceforth be returned to the religious missions which were the original owners.

The conference further voted in favour of Modified Presidential System of Government as recommended by the committee; described as “home-made model of government that combines the attributes of parliamentary and presidential systems.” The concept has the potentials of entrenching the principle of separation of powers as practised in presidential system and promotion of co-operation and harmony between executive and the legislature as operated under the parliamentary system.

The President elected under the new system shall exercise full responsibility for his government and shall select ministers, not more than 18 of them, from the six geo-political zones of the country, and in the modified presidential system the president shall pick the vice president from the legislature.

On local government administration, the conference also voted that states should own their own constitutions while the functions of local governments as contained in schedule 4 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) has been transferred to the states subject to the power of the state Houses of Assembly to add or reduce the said functions of the local governments.

Conference also voted against the local government as a different tier of government, saying that the House of Assembly of a state may confer other functions on local government and agreed that the constitution shall fix the tenures for local government councils.

Delegates approved the scrapping of joint state and local government accounts; to be replaced with a State Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, adding that the body would be expected to have as members, representatives of local government areas and a chairman nominated by the state governor for confirmation by the state House of Assembly.

In addition to the functions conferred on the local government councils as specified in the Fourth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution as amended, a state House of Assembly may by law, confer other functions on the local government.

Henceforth, and except otherwise overturned, conference also conferred financial autonomy on state Houses of Assembly as a way of freeing them from direct control by the executive and voted that for functionality, local government should be politically and economically independent.

The report recommended that there should be complete abolition of the concept of plea bargain by accused public functionaries and also agreed for the establishment of special courts, for instance, anti-corruption courts to handle cases involving corrupt practices.

Also in the report, henceforth, anybody arraigned before the court by EFCC, ICPC and by any law enforcement agencies, the accused person is regarded as guilty, unlike the present situation where he is regarded as innocent until the accused is proven not guilty. Now he is regarded as guilty until he proves himself innocent.

The issue of state police as controversial as it appeared, a decision was taken that those who want it should go and have state police, but those who do not want it, the recommendation of the conference was that the present status of the Nigerian police should remain. But from ASP downwards should be indigenes of every state and that on its own, is like state police.

Churches and mosques

Henceforth, there will be no sponsoring of both Christian and Muslim pilgrimages to the holy lands and that churches and mosques will now pay tax to the Federal Government.

It was also agreed that payment of pension, severance, life insurance for legislators at all levels be cancelled and according to the delegates, same would apply to governors and their deputies, just as lawmakers, governors and their deputies will now receive salaries and allowances commensurate to the functions they perform.

Henceforth, civil servants, who engage in contract for pecuniary gains, will be dismissed from service, just as there was the retention of status quo of retirement age of 60 for workers in public service.

There was also succour for people living with disabilities as delegates voted that governments at all levels should grant allowances to them which will be equivalent of government workers on grade level 06 as that would enable them employ the services of private aides to assist them in carrying out some private and domestic activities.

Also contained in the report is sharing of funds to the Federation Account among the three tiers of government should be: Federal Government (42.5 per cent), State governments (35 per cent) and Local governments (22.5 per cent).

A laboratory technician, Modupe Ajayi, on Wednesday opened up at an Igando Customary Court, Lagos, that she caught her husband in bed with her best friend. Modupe, 40, was responding to Ajayi’s petition, urging the court to dissolve their 12 years marriage for alleged threat to life and lack of respect.

The wife made some socking relations:
“My husband is a shameless man. He slépt with my best friend. My husband is a womaniser, I caught him making love to my best friend in her house. I refused to employ any house help again as he has turned them into séx machine.”


She said that she stopped having sex with her husband, Mr. Ajayi, 50, since September because “I always had séxual infection some days after he made love to me.
“I stopped making love to him and I stopped washing his clothes when I discovered that I always see and smell spe-rm on his boxers,” she said.
She said few days after their wedding, her husband abandoned her to go enjoy himself with another woman but he told her that he wanted to travel to the village to see his father...

“I called his father when he did not show up for days, but his father told me that he did not see my husband.”

The mother of three said she later found telephone number of the lady in question in her husband’s handset and she called her to leave her husband alone.

“After the warning, my husband rushed home, dragged me nakéd out of the bathroom, beat me up for calling his girlfriend. It was my brother-in-law that ran out to cover my nakédness."

The wife, therefore, urged the court to grant her husband’s petition, saying that she was no longer interested in the marriage.

On his part, the husband had told the court that his wife always threatened his life with dangerous weapons.

“Whenever we are fighting she always picks up knife or other sharp objects to stab me. ”He described her as a pompous, disrespectful and arrogant woman.

“She is so full of herself and does not have respect for me despite all I have done for her. I bought her four cars within our 12 years of marriage yet she does not have regard for me. She does things without telling me. She even travelled out of Nigeria without my consent."

He added that his wife has made his house miserable for him as she fights him and always rain curses on him.

He also accused his wife of living an extravagant life with lots of money spent on luxury items. “Her behaviour became unbearable for me. We live as enemy in the house. We stopped talking to each other since June last year," he added.

The President of the court, Mr R.I Adeyeri, adjourned the case to August 27 for ruling.

A 37-year-old mother of three, Ezeh Ifeoma Maureen, has been arrested with substances suspected to be cannabis by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
She was caught at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, during outward screening of China-bound Ethiopian Airlines’ passengers for allegedly attempting to smuggle 6.200 kilogrammes of dried weeds that tested positive for cannabis.
The agency’s Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, said the suspect told the officers that her bags contained vegetables and foodstuff.
“She declared the content of her bags as vegetables and foodstuff, but during a search, the vegetables turned out to be cannabis weighing 6.200 kilogrammes. The drug was packed in two parcels.”

The suspect, who hails from Anambra State, said: “I am a business woman; I sell women’s clothes at the Onitsha main market. I usually export foodstuff to China and import female dresses to Nigeria. One of my customers in China called to tell me that his brother would give me two parcels of vegetables to bring to him. I collected the parcels at the airport from the boy. Unfortunately, when they tested them, I was told that they contained cannabis.”

Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, advised the public to learn from the cases of those arrested for drug trafficking. “This mother of three children would have been killed in China for drug trafficking if she was not apprehended here. It is important for the public to learn from her experience and shun drug trafficking,” he said.

Giade warned passengers not to collect items from people, who will not be there during a search.

The suspect, Giade said, would be charged to court for unlawful possession of, and attempt to export cannabis.

Dr Kent Brantly, the American doctor who contracted the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia while working as a missionary in the country will be released from Atlanta's Emory University Hospital today August 21st after being successful treated.

According to the spokesperson of the hospital, Vince Dollard, Dr. Kent's blood samples came back negative for the virus after undergoing proper screening for two days. Dr. Kent is expected to give a statement regarding his discharge later today at a news conference before leaving the hospital.
Dr. Kent and another US missionary Nancy Writebol contracted the disease while working to fight the outbreak in Liberia. After they contracted the disease they were taken to an isolation unit at Emory University Hospital, where they were treated with the experimental drug, ZMapp.

On Tuesday 19th August 2014, a 19-year-old apprentice welder was nabbed after defiling a hen. The fowl reportedly died after the act.

The incident is said to have been done at the continental area of Akure metropolis.

Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote has donated N150million to help in the fight of the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Foundation, Mrs Adhiambo Odaga announced this at a media briefing at the Ministry of Health, Abuja on Monday. She said the money will be available for the establishment of an Ebola emergency operation centre in Lagos.

“After bilateral discussion with the honourable minister and his team, Dangote foundation has funded the establishment of the Ebola emergency operation in Lagos, that is being done through grant from the foundation of just a little over N150 million,” she said.
