cloudgoddess:Hello, sent you a pm as well, there's a lot I'd like to learn from you. You have a mind I'd love to be friends with. |

Sent a PM but not sure it went through, just in case it didn't. Aspiring filmmaker here, not however based in Ibadan (Lagos) but would be nice to exchange ideas and all |
donnffd:What is interesting is that the standard and models for intelligence are decided upon by humans, doesn't that already reek of bias? A lot of animals are able to achieve features humans are incapable of, say for instance the echolocation bats and dolphins posses. Another hint of bias is that intelligence of other animals is often determined by its ability to follow instructions meted out by humans, say like a Chimps ability to rearrange and identify certain shapes and colors. I don't think we humans are as smart as we like to think, we are really just an egotistical bunch, which is why you have the majority of the populace believing that the universe was created solely for our existence and that the creator did so to have a personal relationship with us, other animals know better than that, and since they know so, can we really say we are smarter than they are? |
Tufanja:Wouldn't it be just grand to have a conversation with you over drinks or coffee or lunch, whichever. |
johnydon22:The lessened gravitational pull is due to a loss of mass, not the burning out of the core. Our Sun is predicted to lose about 33% of it's mass due to strong stellar winds it'll have in it's Red Giant phase. My mistake for citing the fusion as the cause. The loss in gravity is definite, for our Sun at least, what's uncertain is the fate of the Earth. Too bad none of us living now would be around to know for sure |
Blakjewelry:I wouldn't go as far as "unlikely". I mean, a star burning out its core automatically has its gravitational pull on the surrounding objects lessened. Think of its gravity as a tightly wound rope, when loosened, it only makes sense that the said object(s) would drift away. I'd say it's one of the possible scenarios, I'd rather not quantify it's probability. |
Just want to add a little something about the Sun expanding. Several theories exist as to the Sun losing it's gravitational effect on earth, thus allowing the Earth to break free from its orbit and wander off into space, maybe it could get reeled in by another star or collide with another body or whatever. Some stipulate the gravitational pull could be lessened to an extent that still entraps the earth but allows it to escape within safe distance to prevent evaporation of all water. Great thread by the way. |
On the Second day God says to Adam, "I have some good news, and some bad news." Adam responds, "Well tell me the good news first." "Alright my son, the good news is I will give you both a brain and a penis, the bad news is I'm only going to give you enough blood to run one at a time." |
