The Nigerian army is investigating a video showing what appear to be troops torturing and murdering civilians accused of belonging to a separatist group.

The nearly three-minute-long video began circulating on social media earlier in September.

Pointing at what appears to be a corpse lying on the ground, the person recording the video is heard saying: "This one now, is dead".

The army's spokesperson, Brigadier General Sanni Usman, was not immediately available for a comment on the video.

"We are aware of certain video being circulated," he said, according to the Daily Post.

Security analyst David Otto believes that, should investigations confirm that the men in the video were tortured by soldiers, it will be a strong sign that excessive violence might lead to radicalisation of youths, subjected to such treatments.

"The security services shown in this vile video have shown ineptitude in handling the Biafra agitators to a point where their action is acting as a radicalising tool to vulnerable and angry Igbo youths , creating the basis of ethnic and sectarian violence in Nigeria," he told IBTimes UK. The majority of people inhabiting south-eastern Nigeria are Igbo, one of the country's largest ethnic groups.

Whatsapp is currently undergoing a major change.

The messaging app owned by Facebook is introducing some new features developed to help it earn money.

It is making it easier for businesses & regular users to communicate on the platform, & says people will be able to place orders on Whatsapp, & even receive updates from companies through it.

It has started testing tools on the Whatsapp Business app, which has been built for small companies, & also says it is working on "An enterprise solution for bigger companies operating at a large scale with a global base of customers".

The Whatsapp Business app is at present free to use, but the firm has told the Wall Street Journal that it intends to charge businesses "In the future".

"Over 1 billion people use Whatsapp every day to stay connected with their family & friends, & over time, more people are using the app to communicate with businesses they care about too," said Whatsapp in a blog post.

In fact, lots of connections are already taking place daily, whether it is someone placing an order with a local bakery or looking at new styles from a clothing store. But the way this happens now on Whatsapp is pretty rudimentary.

The announcement is prone to raise fears of getting spammed by companies.

While this doesn't necessarily mean that ads definitely aren't coming to Whatsapp anytime soon, the company has previously labelled adverts as "The disruption of aesthetics, the insults to your intelligence & the interruption of your train of thought".

A Nigerian engineer & neuroscientist, Oshiorenoya Agabi, is blazing a trail in America's Silicon Valley by making drones that can smell bombs far off.

Agabi is the founder & CEO of the Silicon Valley startup, Koniku, a wetware company which is the world's first neuro -computationcompany.

"Imagine being able to detect odours a significant distance away with form factors which you can mount on a commercially available drone. The system will be complete with on board biological learning & classification," wrote Agabi on his LinkedIn profile.

Agabi's startup, has developed a prototype 64-neuronsilicon chip & their first application is making a drone that can smell explosives.

According to Osh, the drone would be able to smell bombs several kilometers away, it could also be used for surveying farmland, refineries, manufacturing plants - anything where health & safety can be measured by an acute sense of smell.

Agabi believes "There are no practical limits to how large we can make our devices or how much we can engineer our neurons. I believe as intelligent computation goes-biology is the ultimate frontier."

Agabi who has work experience across five countries & speaks five languages, started his studies in Federal College of Fisheries & Marine Technology in Nigeria where he obtained a Diploma in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, Diploma studies in marine engineering, naval studies & merchant marines in 1997.

One major thing that fans of LG's V series have come to expect is next-level audio in their smartphones. The LG V20 featured a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) which basically converts your digital music into an analogue signal, allowing it to be amplified by speakers & headphones without yielding to digital distortion.

In layman's terms, it made music sound fuller & more robust, bringing it closer to how the original source would have sounded. If you are one of the people who has heard this kind of enhanced audio output, you know what a night & day difference it can have on your favorite music.

If you have not heard the difference, you’ll soon have the chance to do so, thanks to LG's announcement that it is bringing an advanced version of its 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC to its upcoming LG V30 flagship handset, & that it is extending its partnership with B&O PLAY.

YOU MAY ALSO LIKE: HP Unviels Omen X Laptop: 17.3” LCD, Core i7 + GeForce GTX with Overclocking

Powered by ESS Technology’s SABRE ES9218P, LG's new Hi-Fi Quad DAC will offer 2 new features that were not available on the V20 with the inclusion of digital filters & a range of sound presets.

The filters, which are usually found in high-end audio players, allow the user to customize the audio's impulse response, while the presets let you select between enhanced, detailed, live & bass characteristics. Users will also be able to on their own adjust the left & right audio signals to their liking –something which could be very useful for the hearing impaired.

You can get a look at the various presets & audio options that will be available in the LG V30's settings below.

Websites that autoplay videos the moment a visitor lands are not really gunning for the user experience of the year award, in my modest opinion, which is why I am very well looking forward to this Chrome feature that Google has come up with.

Google Chrome will allow you to permanently mute websites.

RoidPolice reports that Google is experimenting with a new feature which will enable users to permanently mute websites on a per domain basis.

Once configured, Chrome will automatically block that page from autoplaying videos with sound.

Google's François Beaufort mentions that thisfeature is still being experimented on by the team.

Websites that have been muted permanently will remain that way until the user manually unmutes them.

This feature is currently available in the latest Canary build of Chrome on the desktop.

Apple preloads all iPhone with a slew of its own first-party apps — but luckily, the App Store is brimming with substitute apps, many of which are better than Apple's.

Whether you are looking to organize your photos, get somework done, or get around town, we have scoured the App Store for the best apps that are better than the default ones on your iPhone.

Replace Mail with Email (from Edison).

It is extremely fast, highly customizable, &, most significantly, it is both smarter & more proactive than any other email app I have used. It automatically scans your emails for purchases, receipts, attachments, calendar dates, & more, & it will automatically put those emails into separate, correctly labeled folders that appear on your sidebar.

Replace Calendar with Google Calendar.

Like Apple's Calendar, it can pull in data from Google, Facebook, & iCloud, but it presents all the information in a much more handy way than Apple's default app does. The top half of the screen shows you the whole month, & the lower half of the screen shows you what's up next. You can scroll down to see what is coming up, & you can tap the top right corner of the screen to jump back to the present day. It's all very intuitive.

Thanks to Japan's Softbank, when the robot day of reckoning comes, robots will be there to say a prayer over your frail human remains.

That is the message from this week's Tokyo Int'l Funeral & Cemetery Show, where Softbank's Pepper robot demonstrated its ability to perform Buddhist funeral rites.

Draped in traditional Japanese funeral garb, Pepper not only presided over a faux death ceremony, it also chanted Buddhist sutras, takingover the usual role of a human monk during such ceremonies.

Pepper is not actually performing any real funeral rites, but Japan's Nissei Eco developed the funeral software for Pepper as an alternative when a Buddhist monk isn't available, or when the family can't afford the more expensive human practitioner.

Where the elderly are beginning to outnumber children, cheap, automated funeral rites may soon become the norm.
