PoliticsRe: Ondo 2020: Akoko Progressive Forum Drums Support For Adelami by tibexgoodboy(op): 11:58pm On May 14, 2020
Man proposes but God disposes...
PoliticsONDO 2020: Why I Want Akeredolu's Job “Adelami”, NASS Deputy Clerk(rtd) by tibexgoodboy(op):
Ex-Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami (mni) says he plans to harness the vast agricultural potential of Ondo State and unify the warring factions in the All Progressives Congress APC, among other reasons for aspiring to the governorship position in the poll slated for November. Excerpts:

* Vanguard’s Question: What informed your decision to go into politics and why APC and not others?

• Adelami’s Answer: It was not my intention to go into politics after my retirement. After retirement I was invited by the presidency to help as the coordinator of Ondo state presidential task force, during the presidential election. It was a call from APC to help reconcile and complement the efforts of the leaders of the APC in the State.
The presidential support committee, was the creation of the APC government and were structured in all the 36 states of the federation and I was made the coordinator.
That was my first exposure in politics. At that time, we coordinated all the 18 local governments, especially the aggrieved members to reconcile them. So that it will not affect the election, we did that during the presidential election. And because we were relating with all the coordinators from the 18 local government we invited them at our office, it was a big opportunity for us to have contact with the people. In our discussions, the people were really begging for intervention in the area of poverty eradication in the rural areas. After the presidential election I started having a reflection, even though by nature I am a philanthropist, I have been doing it in my small community in Owo where I come from. I had a thought that if I am privileged to run the affairs of the State I can do better than what is happening now today.

* Vanguard’s Question: What’s your agenda for the people and which areas will your government focus if given the mandate?

• Adelami’s Answer: I have about 10-point agenda for the state and this agenda are borne out of genuine needs of the people. They are not superficial. By my training, I have been taught how to carry out things we call implementation strategy. So, I have strategy for implementing all my agenda. My first agenda is on agriculture, one of the things that define Ondo State is agriculture and afforestation has been neglected, we have the largest forest reserve in Nigeria but everything has been run down because of bad policies of previous governments.

* Vanguard’s Question: Comment on the view that the incumbent, Gov Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has done very well and should continue?

• Adelami’s Answer: He has done well within the limit of capacity. I am not saying he has not done well, but he can do far better than what is happening now in Ondo State, talking about afforestation I mentioned, the focus should not be felling those trees for economic activities alone to generate revenue. When you cut a tree, it takes about 20 to 25 years for a new tree to mature. They are just falling the trees, that is why each time there is rain there is devastation in the state. I will come up with a policy that if you fall one tree you plant 10. That will be part of my policy.

* Vanguard’s Question: What have you done for your people and Ondo State in general that would make them trust you with their mandate?

•Adelami’s Answer: God created every individual to have positive impacts on our world. At any level we find ourselves, we are meant to impact on our world. I take it as a challenge. When I was in service, any opportunity I have, I made sure I impact on my environment, and it is not until you spend millions that will make you a philanthropist. We have a family foundation over the years, run by my wife and we are co-founders of the foundation. The focus is on impacting on widows and orphans and we have been doing this for many years. Every year we gather together people, we invite medical teams, the federal medical teams. We partner with them, they examine the women at the end of the day, they give them health talk, and we distribute food items and clothes to them. By extension, in my nature I don’t like to see people suffer and that is part of my drive. I think this are part of the things that propelled me to see what I can do at the state level.

* Vanguard’s Question: As a former deputy Clerk of the National Assembly (NASS) many would have thought you would want to go into the NASS, why governorship?

• Adelami’s Answer: I saw the people and their yearnings and by all standards I have what it takes to turn Ondo State around. I have been properly groomed in the area of finance, resources and people management. I have the temperament to manage people, you ask me why APC, APC is a progressive party.

* Vanguard’s Question: As an indigene of Owo, don’t you think you will limit the chances of Owo to produce the next governor of the state?

• Adelami’s Answer: As we speak there are five aspirants from Owo, and mind you, it is not only Owo vote that will produce a governor, it is the people of Ondo State that will determine who they want as a governor this time around. I think it is good for people of Ondo State to have choices. About 10 governorship candidates have emerged. It is an opportunity for the people of Ondo State to be able to choose the best from any one of us.
So, we are presenting the people of Ondo State with many good choices to choose, so, five candidates coming out from Owo will not affect the portion of the governor if he is popular. He has been there for three years, we have not been tested yet, if the people so love him there is no way they will not return him, but I think the people need a choice from the grassroots. If you look at all the nook and cranny of Ondo State you will know that the people are not happy and that is the gap we want to fill to bring fresh blood into the scene and do what other people thought is not possible in Ondo State. Ondo State has human recourse.
And with what is happening in this few month- COVID-19 pandemic that is staring every body in the face, I am telling you is not going to be business as usual.
This pandemic is going to usher in a lot of challenges in governance, therefore Ondo State needs candidate who can do a lot with little resources and turn the fortune of the State around.
And not depend on the monthly allocation from federal government alone. Somebody who can think out of the box, and create wealth and opportunity in the State so that the internally generated revenue will over the period sustain the State, Just as we have in Lagos. Our leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has performed that feat in Lagos State. He looked inwards and created opportunity, that is what Lagos State is enjoying today. We can do same in Ondo State because we have the human resources to do it.

*Vanguard’s Question: Ondo APC is factionalised, which one do you belong to and explain how to help restore unity?

• Adelami’s Answer: This is a bit of a challenge. Right now we have a Unity Forum. It is the group of APC members that are not happy with how the state is been governed especially with many of them having made attempt in one way or the other to correct and offer advice, but when your advice is not taken you have no option than to speak up. By the grace of God, by the time we are there as governor through the mandate of the people, we are going to ensure that there is party cohesion and one of the ways to achieve this is through the local governments. We have 18 of them in the state. We are going to work at the grassroots level and there would be party meetings at wards and units level often. And if there is any aggrieved member, we will bring them together, we will ask what their grievances are.
The one we can fix, we fix it, the one we cannot fix, we apologise. There is going to be a new APC and I know we are going to achieve a lot in the area of party cohesion and our party will be stronger to face any election any day. The Unity Forum is very strong. We are made up of about 80% of APC members in the state.

* Vanguard’s Question: What the chances of the party in the next election in the state?

• Adelami’s Answer: Our chances are very bright, like I said there might be factions but it is not factionalisation per say. APC members are still intact but they are outside and not with the current government and that is why they are waiting for the next election to change the government, to make sure that APC being a strong party will occupy leading positions in Ondo State.

Chief Adelami rose from the level of obscurity to a place of Grace. He has served the masses for thirty five years and he attained the peak in his career. He knows the masses more, he has related with the people and this gave us assurance that the retired deputy clerk of the National Assembly can influence physical development and impact the lives of Ondo State people as he had always done within Owo, Ondo North and Ondo State at large during his service as a public servant.

You clearly aren’t from Ondo State.
PoliticsOndo 2020: Owolabi Olayide Adelami (mni) Joins APC Guber Race by tibexgoodboy(op):
Ahead of the 2020 governorship race in Ondo State, a seasoned technocrat cum politician, Mr. Owolabi Adelami has declared his intention to join the governorship race for the highest seat of power in the state under the All Progressive Congress ( APC).

Addressing party faithfuls and supporters across the 18 local government areas of the state in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Mr. Adelami an indigene of Owo said he is ready to serve his people and correct certain impression that good governance cannot be attained in Ondo State.

Drawing from his over 30 years of experience in service to his fatherland, Adelami said if given the opportunity to serve as the Governor of Ondo State, he will run an all inclusive government and remain a faithful party man to his people.

Cross section of APC members at the event
“For over 30 good years, I was at the National Assembly and over that period, I have learnt the rudiments of politics. Good governance is possible like that of Baba Ajasin Baba Adefarati and even Governor Agagu – they laid a good foundation.

I also want to come in and correct certain impression. How a state will be depend on the who is at the helms of affairs. I want to contribute my quota too. There is the need to make a statement that good governance is possible.

On some of the things he intend to achieve if given the opportunity, Adelami said local government funds will be spent in the respective local government saying the state government has no business building markets in the state.
“My plan is to work closely with the 18 LGs in the state and I will buy bulldozers for each LG so that they are empowered to go about opening up their rural roads”, he added

He also hinted that particular attention will be paid to widows as they are vulnerable saying he has been empowering widows over the years as a way of giving back to those in dire need.

“Under my watch, I will give prominence to women, make LGs visible and functional. Youths will also be empowered we are going to design a special program for them. The development index of Ondo State is going down and eastern states are now taking over.
We will make Ondo State an ICT hub and inculcate artisans into the system and re-equip them so that we can achieve a large number of middle level manpower as against the current situation where we have just a few people high up there and very large mass of lower class”, he further stressed.

Mr. Adelami who further assured the people of better days ahead said as a trained accountant and a trained procurement officer, Ondo State will experience a new lease of life under his watch as the Governor of the state stressing that he will reduce payable fees in state institutions of learning.

“The only industry we have in Ondo State is school and for the past 11 years, successive government have failed to recruit teachers into the system. This is one of the reasons the quality of education has gone down”, he stressed.

Earlier the conveners of ADELAMI ONDO 2020 CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION, Engr. Ralf Adetimehin, Alhaji Sakariyahu Arowolo and Comrade HK Bello in separate interviews said the present government has not done well in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people stressing that the time has come for party members to effect a change.

According to them, party members are disenchanted and are fed up with the present situation in the party.

PoliticsGroup Hails Ondo APC Guber Aspirant, Adelami On Birthday by tibexgoodboy(op): 12:31am On Apr 29, 2020
opera.com. 03/04/2020

Concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state under the auspices of the APC Rescue League have sent their greetings to a chieftain and governorship aspirant of the Party, Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami, mni on the occasion of his birthday.

The group in a statement signed by it’s General Secretary, Aderemi Adetula, esquire on Friday said Adelami stands out among all the individuals aspiring to govern Ondo State in the October 10, 2020 governorship election.

The statement sent to Nigerian cable news online partly reads:

“As we celebrate with him, we are glad that our party has within its ranks a cerebral administrator, who rose to the top of his career as Deputy Clerk at the National Assembly before retiring.”

“Adelami a fellow of many professional bodies, was also seen as a worthy man by the late Olowo of Owo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr D.V.F Olateru Olagbegi III, who honoured him with the Amuwagboye of Owo Kingdom.”

“We are also not unaware of Adelami’s love for his people through his many philanthropic acts both personally and through the Elizabeth Foundation.”

“Much than we have heard, we have also seen his leadership qualities since he joined our party, helping to keep the party together both within Owo Local Government and the whole of Ondo State.”

“It was indeed through his efforts, that the APC won the only senatorial seat in the state in Ondo North Senatorial District, while all others were taken away by the opposition during the 2015 general election.”

“His broad-minded acts made the party appoint him as the chairman of the Presidential Support Committee in the state to reconcile aggrieved party members and to lead the work for the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari, a task he gave his best to achieve but for the selfish interests of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the people around his government.”

APC Rescue League also urged Adelami not to relent in pursuing his ambition to govern the good people of Ondo State.

“We join members of our party to wish him a happy birthday and we want to declare our believe in his ability to rescue our state from the hands of people who have turned it unto a family business.”

“With what we know about Chief Adelami, he is the most qualified out of all the governorship aspirants, having worked at the highest level at the federal civil service.

“He will bring to Ondo State good fortunes which had eluded the state in times past,” the statement read.

PoliticsCOVID 19: Create Food Bank Now, Ondo Guber Aspirant Olayide Adelami To Akeredolu by tibexgoodboy(op):
A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State and former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Olayide Adelami has expressed regrets that the state government is yet to devise a plan for equitable distribution of resources to cushion the effects of the covid-19 pandemic.

The governorship hopeful who made the call in a statement in Akure, Ondo State capital, called on the government to roll out palliative measures and create food bank to support the people, most especially the vulnerable ones.

“Now that their income has been blocked with the present shutdown and no hope of income from any other means, the Ondo state government needs to step in, mandate the relevant agency to capture their data and begin the distribution of resources to support this sector. Anything short of this could mean an invitation to starvation and depression for a large percentage of the state’s populace.”

He said the informal sector, comprising people mainly into commercial and agricultural activities should not be left to suffer when health officials are asking people to stay at home to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

“The informal sector would be badly hit should the sit-at-home order persists which looks inevitable as there seems to be no end in sight to the pandemic. While government workers and their counterparts in the private sector are assured of getting paid at the end of the month, the same cannot be said about members of the informal sector who only depend on daily proceeds from their trades to fend for themselves and their families,” he said.

Adelami also stressed the need for the Ondo government to start preparing for the post-COVID-19 looming economic meltdown being forecast by global economists.

“This pandemic has also shown that there is a need for states in Nigeria to start diversifying and not rely on revenue from Abuja. After the crisis, there is bound to be a shortfall in the monthly allocation states receive from Abuja as the world economy will be badly affected, in order not to be caught unaware, Ondo needs to start thinking outside the box on how to generate revenue to keep the state running,” he advised.

He urged the people of the state and Nigerians to stay safe and observe all the precautionary measures put in place by the government and health officials to curb the spread of the virus.

Adelami commended the Federal Government and the Lagos state government for how they are effectively managing and containing the spread of the virus in Nigeria.
