oyatz: Boko Haram and the killer Fulaniherdsmen are greater threats to Nigeria's unity, how come ACF hasn't been it fit to give their expert opinions on how to end them or how to make Zamfara and Benue more peaceful?
ACF were full of Fulani, so they can't do nothing for these two state
Mightymanna: Non of these regional security apparatus will help Nigeria's unity because they are conceived with sinister motives toward some ethnic groups in the country. For those that are shouting HISBAH and civilian JTF in the North are also illegal, they should look at the aforementioned from different perspectives because Hisbah was created by Kano state and civilian JTF by Borno state non of these Security agencies are allowed to use gun or any sophisticated weapons But amatekun or whatever they call it is a different case because 1.a whole geo-political zone decided to create it 2. They will be allowed to use weapons 3. They are being supported by people of questionable character e.g Nnamdi KANU 4. Other regions might do the same hence the federal police will be useless and conflicts will started based on perceived injustice by people of different ethnicity.
Therefore amatekun or whatever is dead and buried the Northerners will not agree will these sort of security arrangements, if you want secure your region cooperate with the police and army in your respective states, support them with necessary , material and financial support and watch how things will change
Common sense is not common. This shows that there is no MANNER for MightyMANNA.
Lagos – The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), northern Nigeria’s foremost socio-cultural group, on Thursday said establishing regional security force such as South West security outfit, ‘Operation Amotekun’, may affect Nigeria’s unity and cohesion.
In a statement by Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, its National Publicity Secretary, the body said while it agreed that the military and other security agencies are overstretched owing to security challenges across the country, it is concerned that several tribal organisations set up in the past have been used to harass and intimidate non-indigenes.
The statement reads: “The governors of the South-West states recently inaugurated a regional tribal security outfit known as Operation Amotekun with the sole aim of complementing the efforts of the Nigeria police and other security agencies as announced by Governor Fayemi of Ekiti State during the inauguration. ACF appreciates the concern of the South-West over the insecurity situation in the region and other parts of the country.
“It is evident that the military and other security agencies are overstretched by the security challenges nationwide and all efforts aimed at taming the situation is welcomed. However, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) wishes to caution that in establishing such security outfits, due process must be followed and backed by law.
“The functions of the security outfit must be clearly spelt out and should not be in conflict with the federal law establishing the regular security agencies.
“The fear being expressed by Nigerians over Operation Amotekun or any other tribal security outfit is genuine, considering past experiences where tribal militia recognised by states became intimidating tools to non-indigenes”.
Stating further, ACF said while it is worried that setting up of Amotekun by the South-West governors may have political undertone, Amotekun may have confrontations with the police and other security agencies in the course of its duty and that may negate the purpose for which it is established.
“Presently, we have so many security outfits under the Federal Government, the Nigeria Police, Civil Defence, DSS and other paramilitary organisations all providing security cover to the citizens but seriously overwhelmed. More so, the state governments render logistics and other operational assistance to the federal security agencies at the state levels, while at the same time the states establish and fund vigilante groups and traffic agencies.
“Establishing a regional tribal security outfit like Operation Amotekun, in addition to these is a duplication of effort in our candid opinion. Rather, the states should collaborate with federal authorities to fashion out a constitutional means of providing adequate security to the citizenry. ACF is also apprehensive of the political undertones of setting up such regional security outfits like the Amotekun and its constitutional implications to the rule of law.
“Furthermore, ACF is seriously concerned with likely conflict that may arise in operational jurisdiction between the federal police and Amotekun.
“In view of all these, ACF hereby cautions against establishing regional tribal security forces that may likely affect our unity and national cohesion. “The Nigerian constitution of 1999 as amended gives the governor of a state the powers to direct a Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state with respect to maintenance and securing of public safety and order within the state, which the CP shall comply.
“This constitutional provision, in addition to the logistics being provided by the state government to the Nigeria Police Force, if properly utilised, will promote a good working relationship between the state government and the police command to handle any security challenge. It is, therefore, the considered opinion of ACF that the disadvantages of having a regional tribal security outfit like Amotekun outweighs the advantages at this material time of our democratic experiment”, the ACF said.
On the declaration of Amotekun as illegal by the Federal Government, Arewa said the South-West governors must go to the court for a legal solution on the issue.
“Now that the Federal Government has declared the Amotekun tribal security illegal, confirmed our earlier appeal that due process must be followed in establishing such security outfits. The only option now left to the South-West governors is to approach the court for a legal solution.”
The attention of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum(SMBLF) has been drawn to the illegal diktat by the Attorney - General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami(SAN) declaring Amotekun, the South West security (not military or Police) outfit illegal. We consider his action as an abuse of office to suppress the rights of federating units to secure themselves and in furtherance of the widely - held suspicion that sections of the country are deliberately being rendered vulnerable for herdsmen and other criminals by the Federal Government. We ask the Governors of the South West to ignore Malamu and allow him to go to court to challenge their decision as he cannot constitute himself a court over elected governors. We are not under military rule. We insist that what the Governors have done is what individuals and and neighborhoods can legally do to secure their lives and property. The right to preserve your life cannot be under any exclusive list other than the list of those who have no value for human lives. The ultra vire action of the AGF has further exposed Nigeria as a country under command and control and governed by a conquest mentality. We ask Malami to tell us what makes Amotekun illegal and Hisbah legal. He should further explain to us what makes Civilian JTF legal in the North East where there is war and in Zamfara and Katina and Kano where there is no war, while Amotekun is his only illegal take. This is a defining moment to decide if we are under segregation and different laws in the country. Ibegtodiffer: What do say about Yân bànga, Yàn dàba and even Hisbah that can arrest Police?
Hnmmm how can a sharia officer arrested a constituted authority (Police) when we are not in a sharia nation. I was so surprise when I heard the news. In fact wonder shall never end in northern region.
Politic Digest: The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has berated the South West Governors for the establishment of Amotekun, saying that the move was a threat to national peace and security.
The NYCN in a statement signed by its National President Comrade Isah Abubakar and made available to PRNigeria in Abuja said Amotekun group in south west is OPC Military wing in disguise, stressing that the group is in the same league with the proscribed IPOB terrorist organization in the South East.
He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow this unconstitutionality to prevail, adding that the south west Governors must desist from backing nefarious groups such as this one.
According to him, Amotekun is a threat to peace and national security, and an attempt to jeorpadize Nigeria’s sovereignty. The Amotekun Group is not different from Boko Haram and the IPOB Movement in their formative stages, stressing that Nigerian Police, DSS and Army Shouldn’t take this lightly with the Governors of South West.
The NYCN called on the National Security Adviser to promptly take steps that will avert the looming threat to our National security deliberately created by Governors of South West, OPC and others.
Meanwhile, the leading civil Rights Advocacy group – HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has applauded the decision of the political leadership of the South West of Nigeria to formulate a home-made security strategy to tackle the increasing threats to the security of lives and property of law abiding citizens of their federating units.
“The rest of the federating units such as South South; South East; North central; North West; North East should similarly adopt same approach because safeguarding the security of the citizenry and coming to the aid of state institutions such as the Nigerian Police Force and other sister security institutions is the fundamental task of a good citizen. A bottom to the top approach to security and the formulation of security strategy to make the people the owners of the process is the best intelligence gathering tool.”
“We have watched with overwhelming excitement the collective resolve of millions of people of South West origin including millions of other law abiding citizens of other segments of the Nigerian federation doing legitimate businesses in the South West, to collectively restore sanity, security and societal harmony in that part of the country that remains the industrial and commercial hub of the Nation, is highly commendable. We hereby urge governors of other federating units to follow the good model of the South West joint security architecture, to bring about the restoration of security, peace, unity and economic advancements in all other parts of Nigeria.”
HURIWA recalled that the governors of the South West will on January 7, inaugurate Operation Amotekun, a security strategy meant to combat killings and kidnapping in the zone.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Muyiwa Olumilua, who said this in an interview with one of our correspondents on Wednesday, said vehicles and equipment for the security outfit were ready.
He stated that the inauguration was delayed by the need for all the states to be adequately ready in terms of meeting the requirements.
HURIWA sated thus: “We commend the South West governors who had, in September, after a meeting in Akure, said they would set up Operation Amotekun, following serial killings and kidnapping in the zone by Fulani herdsmen. There is every justification for the establishment of this model security architecture following a relentless gale of armed attacks by bandits and suspected armed Fulani bandits. In June, gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, killed Funke Olakunri, a daughter of the Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, on the Ondo-Ore road.
“There were cases of kidnapping, including the abduction of a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Prof. Olayinka Adegbehingbe, in May, at the Ikoyi/Apomu junction of the Ibadan-Ife Expressway in Ikire, a border town between Osun and Oyo states. We in the organised human rights community are happy that the governors have taken the bull by the horns and are now doing something to checkmate the rising scale of threats to the security of lives and property of the good people of the South West.”
US officials say they believe the Ukrainian International Airlines Boeing 737-800 was hit by a missile, CBS says.
Ukraine earlier said it was examining whether a missile strike brought down the aircraft - but Iran ruled this out.
The crash came just hours after Iran carried out missile strikes on two airbases housing US forces in Iraq.
CBS News quoted US intelligence sources as saying a satellite detected infrared "blips" of two missile launches, followed by another blip of an explosion.
Meanwhile, Newsweek quoted a Pentagon and senior US intelligence officials, as well as an Iraqi intelligence official, as saying they believed the Ukrainian plane was hit by a Russian-made Tor missile.
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that "I have my suspicions" over the plane. "Somebody could have made a mistake," he said.
Amid tensions heightened by the US killing of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani on 3 January, Iran has said it will not hand over the recovered black box flight recorders to Boeing, the plane's manufacturer, or to the US.
Under global aviation rules Iran has the right to lead the investigation, but manufacturers are typically involved.
What does US media report?
In separate reports, CBS News and Newsweek said US and Iraqi intelligence officials were confident the Ukrainian plane was brought down by a missile fired by Iran.
CBS published a brief report on Twitter, saying the officials were confident the plane was shot down.
It said this information was based on US intelligence, which sources said picked up signals of a radar being turned on. US satellites also reportedly detected two missile launches shortly before the Ukrainian plane exploded.
Meanwhile, Newsweek quoted US and Iraqi officials as saying they believed the aircraft was hit by a Russia-built Tor M-1 surface-to-air missile system, known as Gauntlet by Nato.
Two Pentagon officials assessed that the incident was accidental, Newsweek added.
It quoted sources as saying that Iran's anti-aircraft systems were probably active following its attacks on the US airbases.
Iran has warns of "more crushing responses" if Washington retaliates to Wednesday's missile attacks against US troops in Iraq. Iran earlier said it had fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two Iraqi military bases hosting US troops. US President Donald Trump has tweeted about the attack. He wrote, "All is well!" and said he'd be making a statement on Wednesday morning local time. Meanwhile, a Ukrainian airliner has crashed near Tehran airport. Iranian state TV says there are no survivors. The world, as it is, on edge.
Fash20: You're the illiterate here. The people that protested were shia muslims.
When the news captioned that in some media did they said the protest is from Shia Muslim and don't want to mentioned region but we all know where the protest comes from. Even the background check shows the red alert for our security personnel that was why the IG alerted Police for to be prepared.

Mouthgag: [s][/s] Shut up Must we wait? You think it like some people that will be waiting for the pope
Its shows that you are also suffering from religion slavery, otherwise you should have known that the political war between Iran and US does not concern us.
Due to recent protest in some part of Nigeria for the assassination of Iran General Qassem Soleimani, a top commander killed in an air strike by the United States.
I noticed the protest occurred due to illiteracy, poverty and religious slavery that we have in our nation.
Look at the core Muslim nations and see what underdevelopment, illiteracy and poverty did to Nigeria .
Dubai no protest Oman no protest Kuwait no protest Yemen no protest Saudi Arabia no protest Algeria no protest Turkey no protest Syria no protest Senegal, no protest, Egypt, no protest Guinea Bissau, no protest Sudan, no protest. Lybia no protest, Morocco no protest Mali no protest Chad no protest Niger Republic no protest Sudan No protest Ethiopia No protest Eritrea No protest
These are core Muslim countries and no single protest
This is a shame to Nigeria and also religion is an instruments for slavery.
