Impressive.

Thanks for the deep insights here @Timagex.
I usually wear the cap to the right but I will start switching to the left from now on that I'm fully aware of this fact.

I will do more research as to why Yoruba culture entails wearing the tilted Gobi to the left for married men and vice versa. So, if a man has been married before and gets separated from his woman, he has to revert to tilting his Gobis to the right.

I wish you the very best in your Ibadan base... Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words sir. I wish you the best too.

Is the tilting of the cap to the left OR right the standard Yoruba cultural practice? If so, I never knew that tbh. I used to think it was just a matter of choice.

The reason you believed that it is a matter of choice is because, most people tilt it to the side that looks best on them. There are times I have also told my clients to tilt their FÌLÀ to another side during photoshoots because the correct side doesn't look good on them. Our culture is fading. Some of us are just trying to salvage the situation. 😎

The married men wear and tilt their FÌLÀ to the left side and the unmarried tilt theirs to the right. That's the traditionally correct way.

Once thing I know for sure is that, as a child, your parent's marriage will shape your view about marriage, positively or otherwise. The onus is on you to take from the good parts and work around the bad parts. You also have to be very careful of patterns. I mean, family patterns and repetitions. Marriage is not a child's play. One has to emotionally matured.

I don't know what, but I am always ery shy to ask for food at events.

Infact, I begin to leave the moment food is coming in...

I stopped going to weddings because of food....

I will just get my gift and send it to the celebrant....

No be pride, na just respect....

I see people struggling to collect food and will hoard many plates and be accusing the events planners how they mismanaged the event.... While going home with different souvenirs.

Exactly. Some people go home with food wrapped in all those black and ungodly nylon bags. It makes them feel smarter than the people who didn't get food. We need to do better generally as people.

Events / Re: Why Do Food Vendors At Weddings Always Assume Photographers Are On Dry Fast? by Timagex(m): 9:39pm On Nov 03, 2023
I can say it confidently that, photographers and cinematographers do the most job at weddings. We start working immediately the bride wakes up and we only wind up when the party is over!!! No human can function at such a capacity without food.

And oh, there was a wedding I photographed some months ago and they served one of the most delicious jollof rice I have ever perceived. You know those type of food that the aroma throws you off balance, walahi, food no reach me. 😂 E pain me o!! But, on a serious note, what is our offense? Let's make peace. 😁

I am really not in the mood to write today. But, my question remains, why do food vendors always assume we are on dry fast?
Events / Re: Why Do Food Vendors At Weddings Always Assume Photographers Are On Dry Fast? by Timagex(m): 9:32pm On Nov 03, 2023
I have been shooting wedding events for almost eight years now and there is something I have noticed in the Nigerian wedding atmosphere that I don't like.

It is the act of denying photographers and cinematographers any form of food and refreshments at events. I honestly do not know why, but, it is happening more frequently and nobody is taking about it.

Nobody should say I like food o, although, I like food, but nobody should say it. 😁

Let me go a bit further. Stay with me.

Every vendor gets food without much hassles, but, caterers draw the line when it comes to photographers. Why? Because of embarrassment, most photographers don't even bother to ask for food again. We just order food online, but, what of cases of remote areas where ordering of food is not really feasible? Tomorrow is another Saturday and another photographer colleague of mine will be embarrassed by caterers, I just know it.

There are even instances when photographers are shouted at or even ordered to wash plates all because of hot jollof rice. 😁

I personally feel this matter between photographers and food vendors cannot be settled here on earth.

You know, a friend of mine once told me something he is convinced of and day by day, I think he is right.

He said that, he believes that, the present day Nigerians are people who have been alive before around a loooong time ago. But, those people were involved in the highest crimes and violence against humanity. So, when they died, they would be thrown into the fire but an agent of the devil suggested a more severe punishment for them. The devil was surprised that someplace was more brutal than the hell fire. He inquired about the place and the agent mentioned Nigeria!!! 😁😁 The oga (devil) seemed to agree and that's why we are all here just to suffer. 😁
