Few weeks ago, a thread made frontpage here on Nairaland about the terrible state of mobile internet in Nigeria:
https://www.nairaland.com/8648937/mtn-airtel-internet-getting-worse

Many users shared their experiences, and a lot of people could relate to the complaints about slow browsing, unstable connections, and frequent network drops.

A Nigerian amputee lady recently lost a remote US call center job on her very first day all because of poor network connection.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3fU_qpFwZY

According to her, the connection kept failing during work hours, and before she could stabilize things, the opportunity was gone and her contract terminated.
Getting a remote job like that isn’t easy, especially in Nigeria, which makes the situation even more painful.

For some people, bad network is just frustrating…
But for others, it can cost real opportunities.

CelebritiesPortable Visits Babalawo Ahead Of Fight With Carter Efe (video) by timidapsin(op): 2:14pm On Apr 28
Few weeks ago there was a faceoff between Portable and Carter Efe in preparation of their N50M fight
https://www.nairaland.com/8641399/scenes-portable-vs-carter-efe

Portable has now sparked fresh reactions online after a new video surfaced showing him visiting a traditionalist (Babalawo) ahead of his upcoming fight with Carter Efe.

In the video, the Babalawo is seen performing rituals and chanting incantations, calling on the oracle concerning the outcome of the fight.

During the session, specific prayers were made against Carter Efe, with the traditionalist reportedly asking that on the day of the fight, Carter Efe should forget how to fight and even be unable to lift his arm.

Portable, who appeared fully engaged throughout the process, seemed to be seeking spiritual backing as preparation for the much-anticipated bout.

For those who missed how it all started, here’s the full breakdown of the genesis of the fight:

CelebritiesVDM And BLord Shake Hands -says “It’s Not About BLord Anymore But Sowore" by timidapsin(op): 1:00pm On Apr 27
Popular social media activist VeryDarkMan and businessman BLord were recently seen exchanging a handshake, in what appears to be a brief but notable moment amid their ongoing tension.

In the footage circulating online, BLord is seen smiling during the interaction, while no clear indication was given that both parties have resolved their differences.

The development has sparked mixed reactions, with some observers interpreting the gesture as a sign of possible de-escalation, while others believe it was merely a civil or momentary exchange.
During the handshake VeryDarkMan made a statement suggesting a shift in his focus away from BLord.
“It’s not about BLord anymore, it's a thing of pride, It’s about showing Omoyele Sowore, that he can't do anything and I will show him..
I want to show him I'm a ratel”

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from Sowore.

If you are wondering how this whole VDM vs Blord saga started and why it has escalated this much, here’s a quick breakdown:

To me time appear to move at a very slow pace, than what you have today.

I remember the lengthy time we spend in school, then get home wait for the television stations to begin, that endless waiting is always ended with drums of the national anthem by 4pm signaling television is about to start. After the announcer gives a rundown of things to come we get glued to the tv. Along the way tv suddenly is not with volume or has lost color, you give it a good slap at back the tv will reset. Tv then were rugged.

We were based in Lagos then, so every 4pm different channels were available, and you also re cieve stations from other states.

But the best stations showing in Lagos was channel 5, ltv8, channel 10. But the cable TV of that era belong to a station in Ogun state. I think ogbc. This station was way ahead of all stations in nigeria, the kind of movies and entertainment was top notch.

They showed very recent movies, they were ahead of their time, I remember watching a movie with my elder siblings all of a sudden it became very breezy has in serious rain was coming.
Na so we lose signal for ogbc, see everyone face Oya smally go and adjust the antenna on the roof, I was made to go and adjust the antenna, I managed to climb the roof and started adjusting the antenna back then you will shout from the roof how far is it ok, my siblings will respond then more to the left or right. Take it back a bit, you missed it, it's not clear again. Start from the beginning. If you get a clear signal, you together the antenna are free from verbal abuse.
😂 this is well written

If there was a button you could press to go back to that era… would you press it?
“Absolutely.”
That was my mum’s answer.

She began telling me what life really felt like growing up in Nigeria in the 70s and 80s… and the more she spoke, the more it felt like stepping into a completely different world.

Back then, school started around age 6, and even getting in had its own little test:
If you could touch your second ear by stretching your hand over your head, you were ready.
From there, life followed a rhythm that didn’t need screens or notifications. There were no smartphones… only landlines, with NITEL as the network. No internet. No social media.
Fun simply meant going outside.
Suwe. Ten-ten. Boju Boju… and many more.
She talked about running barefoot on dusty streets with friends, laughter filling the air, until the sun slowly began to set and everyone knew it was time to head home.
Also talked about heading to the stream to fetch water… not as punishment, but just part of everyday life, there were no boreholes only wells which wasn't available to everyone.
Evenings were quieter. The whole family would gather around the TV to watch NTA, the only station at the time… and when it closed for the night, that was it. No endless scrolling, no backup entertainment.
School life had its own journey too. Starting with slates and chalk, before moving on to notebooks. And instead of JSS or SS, it was “Form 1, Form 2…”
And somehow, ₦1 could actually buy something meaningful and "kobo coins" could buy things also.
The more she spoke, the more it sounded like a simpler life… but it makes you wonder… was it actually better?

Note: This was made from my mum’s perspective, so it might differ slightly from your own experience or that of your parents.

If you experienced this era (or heard stories about it), I’d really like to hear yours.

PoliticsB-Lord Appreciates Sowore’s Intervention, Says He's Now Part Of Revolution Team by timidapsin(op): 5:13pm On Apr 21
Businessman BLord has spoken following his release from Kuje Prison.

He stated that activist Omoyele Sowore intervened in his case despite not knowing him personally.
“I have never met Omoyele Sowore in my life, but when he heard that I was being intimidated, he had to step in. I am now part of the Revolution team.”

BLord was also seen wearing Sowore’s Revolution Now cap in appreciation.

In another video after arriving at Anambra Airport, BLord doubled down, claiming his ordeal was politically motivated:

“They can never intimidate me. What you people are seeing is not a small fight, it’s all about politics. Because I want to support my brother, they want to deal with me.”
He added:
“But I still maintain my stand: I can never be bought.”

mirrael68:
I think madam koi koi is real. Some demons disturb / oppress people by sounds mimicking a lady walking with high hills on a hard surface.
As early as in 2014, I used to live in a ground floor of a block of flats and we used to hear this noise almost every night at a period. Can't remember when it started but all of us used to hear it loud and clear at late hours. Sometimes it's a loud thud of a sound as if someone dropped an Engine on the floor. The occupants of that flat upstairs were our friends from the North, very reserved and gentle people and we never saw the wife wear high hills not to talk of wearing them late nights and walking all over the place.
I also had similar noises of a different kind in two houses I lived in, I west of mines,Jos.
The spiritual world is real- both good and evil.
y'all should have made the bold step to check it out one of those nights

SportsDid India Really Beat Nigeria 99–1? The Truth About The Okwaraji Story by timidapsin(op): 12:57pm On Apr 18
Growing up in Nigeria, many of us heard this crazy story…
That India once defeated Nigeria 99–1 in a football match.

Some versions even said every time Nigeria’s goalkeeper tried to catch the ball, it turned into a lion.
And the Nigerians were told that if they could score just one goal, they would be declared winners.
Then the late Samuel Okwaraji stepped up to take a free kick and just as he was about to strike the ball with full force, it turned into a rock… he scored, but it killed him.
As funny as it sounds now, a lot of people actually believed it.

So what really happened?
After digging into it, here’s the truth:
There is no official record from FIFA, CAF, or the Nigeria Football Federation of such a match ever happening. India and Nigeria have never played each other in any recognized international match from that era
A scoreline like 99–1 is practically impossible in real football
And of course… the ball never turned into a lion

So where did the story come from?
Most likely, it started as a schoolyard tale that spread from one person to another. Back then, without the internet, stories like this traveled fast and became “facts” over time.
It eventually became part of Nigerian football folklore.

For clarity, Samuel Okwaraji’s real story is completely different. He tragically collapsed and died on the pitch in 1989 during a World Cup qualifier against Angola at Lagos National Stadium.
His death was later linked to a heart condition, and it remains one of the most heartbreaking moments in Nigerian football history.
It had nothing to do with India, no 99–1 match, and no “mystical” events.
I made a short video breaking everything down, including how the myth spread and what actually exists in football records.

CelebritiesB-lord Granted Bail "I Have Done My Part" Says Sowore by timidapsin(op): 1:27pm On Apr 17
BLORD has now been granted bail following the recent developments surrounding his case. Reports suggest the matter has been de-escalated, with efforts leaning toward an amicable resolution.

However, part of the court’s conditions includes the seizure of his international passport, meaning he is currently restricted from traveling while the case continues.

VeryDarkMan, who was initially involved in the dispute and is fully within his rights to pursue legal action, is now being credited in some circles for not pushing the matter further after tensions reduced and both sides moved away from escalation.

In a brief statement, Sowore said:
“I have done my part in this case. BLORD has been granted bail. I am off to the next.”

He also emphasized that no battle comes without consequences and he is prepared to face whatever follows his actions. According to him, the focus now shifts to other ongoing cases.

Sowore further stated that BLORD’s bail marks the end of this phase, adding that he is not fighting anyone personally. He stressed his broader mission, saying he is willing to face any cost if it means freedom for Nigerians. He also claimed he is moving on to other cases, including what he described as continued political pressure ahead of the next election, positioning himself as part of what he calls the real opposition.

He called for unity among young people, urging them to come together and focus on holding the government accountable rather than internal divisions.

The situation now appears to be moving away from confrontation, with each party shifting focus to their separate priorities.

CrimeAlleged TikTok Acc Of Kidnapper: Nigerians Question Resemblance by timidapsin(op):
A viral post yesterday sparked reactions online after a TikTok account was allegedly linked to one of the kidnappers of UNIJOS student, Jon Arum Azi.
Watch here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUJ0SNuYel4
Follow-up thread:
https://www.nairaland.com/8653765/suspected-kidnapper-john-arum-azi

The claim gained traction after an X user alleged that he had spoken with the supposed kidnapper’s brother, who reportedly said the family was also searching for him stating that he's wanted for similar crimes of kidnapping in the past.. He also said his brother promised to hand him over if he gets hold of him first.
However, in a surprising twist, the X user has now deleted the video where he made those claims.

This development has raised fresh doubts among Nigerians, with many questioning the authenticity of the entire story. Several users have pointed out a lack of clear resemblance between the individual seen in the kidnapping video and the person linked to the TikTok account.

The situation has since sparked calls for caution, as many warn against rushing to conclusions without proper verification, especially given the potential damage to innocent individuals.

As conversations continue online, many Nigerians are now urging authorities to conduct a proper investigation and establish the facts before any final claims are made.

Omoyele Sowore has now responded to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Sahara Reporters publication.

In his reaction, Sowore clarified that he did not personally make the allegation that VeryDarkMan met with IGP Disu.

According to him, the report was published by Sahara Reporters, and as such, the issue is strictly between VeryDarkMan and the media platform.
Sowore reportedly stated:
“I did not say VeryDarkMan met with IGP Disu. Sahara Reporters did.”

He further distanced himself from the claims, emphasizing that he is currently focused on more pressing matters.
Sowore also revealed that he is actively working behind the scenes to ensure that a bail date for Blord is secured, suggesting that legal efforts are ongoing.
