I went to meet a buyer today to sell my iPhone. Unfortunately for me I didn't go with my android phone.
He transferred the money to me (So he said). We waited for an hour and no alert showed. It's getting late so I left the phone with him after he gave me a lot of assurance that he's legit. But till now, I haven't receive it and worst of all is that he has switched off his phone.

Anyone who know how I can trace the phone should please let me know.

Only if you where here last week to read up personal experiences shared by myself and others here... You wouldn't have fallen for this cheap scam..

I'm afraid the cost of retrieving phone via IMEI may be too expansive a risk..

I stopped seeing people differentlyafter the 4th scam attempt in 3months, one was successful (lost 165k) and the last one wanted to use jazz to collect 5 phones..

Just two weeks ago.. A guy "instructed" me to give him all my iPhones.. His jazz failed.
We met at a Restaurant, he claimed he would like to buy like 5 iPhones 8 above and planning to resale..
We were to conclude price at meeting point, as he came travelled from Ibadan to meet up at Abk..
I would have suspected him,, but since he claims he is a reseller and also,, he agreed to meet at my own preferred public place around my domain.. I was confident
We met,, he was sitted already, stepped into the restaurant.. I didn't like the atmosphere (just God's spirit) so I called a friend to leave whatever he is doing and meet me at the restaurant incase any funny thing happens..
We sat,, he asked to go use the toilet, came back after 2mins.. Checked out one of the phone, I was having 2 iphone 8, 1iphone 8plus, 1Xr and 1XS on table..
He smiled,, looked at my face and said in Yoruba.. "I want you to give (dash) me these phones"
At that moment,, I knew what I felt when I entered the restaurant was right afterall..
I looked at him,, and he repeated same words again.. At that point I was totally convinced it was JUJU
I smiled, packed the phones and left the scene.. It was on my way back I called my friend not to bother coming again..

Trust me if not for God and His grace,, that jazz would have worked.. He didn't just come all the way from Ibadan to Abeokuta to come and play,, if he wasn't sure of the Jazz..

I'll say you are talking like that because they've not dupe you before with fake Alert. If the guy stands on collecting cash, he only wants to be safe and mind you, a serious buyer will walk into the bank and withdraw the money, at least for the guy to be able to drive him all around, he would have come across many ATMs, that's exactly how scammers act.

Now, my own experience. It happened to me 3 times last year and I fell victim twice, all was in Abuja. I lost over 150k in these 2 occasions. And one of them even came with a car. Till today (over 6 months) their numbers no dey ever go for once. Ever since then, I've concluded that if I didn't see Alert and also confirm in my mobile app, I'll never release the phone, infact, turn to bird, fish, mosquito, anything I'll never leave the phone. (Besides those occasions I've come across them, same suspicious act and after about an hour that I insisted that I won't leave it since the Alert never enter, they left and till today no Alert, just imagine).

Stick to your cash policy or no Alert no transaction, it will save you a lot. And any alert that doesn't show your total balance, my brother na scam.

In the past 3months, I've had fake alert issue..
First worked on me 165k lost.. Till today I still never see money for my acc

The remaing two,, one claim he is over his limit.. and wanted to transfer 100k and pay me the remaining 70k in cash.. He "transfered" the 100k,, but didn't get any money in my bank app.. Called my bank rep to confirm, yet no money.. But guy was playing victim saying he can't go without the phones,, and ofcouse (learning from my first experience) I wont leave phone too..
He then brought up the idea to give me total 90k total cash and go with the phone, the when I receive the 100k later, I will transfer his excess 20k back..
I declined..
Its was getting late, almost 2hours already.. he stood his ground,, he wont let me go with phone while his money is hanging on air.. and I wont leave my phone without collecting my total fee too..

Then I agreed to his 90k cash upfront deal BUT I will put phone on icloud FMI,, and if his 100k doesn't reflect after a day.. I have the ability to lock the phone remotely.. and if it does we unlock the phone from iCloud.. This way I lose my iPhone 8plus, and he lose his 90k cash.. We both lose..

Guy declined. That's when I was totally convinced he's a scammer..!! Then I told him I needed to go withdraw some money for myself,, he should stay around with my other friend that came with me..

As I left,, he told my friend he wants to get Airtime,, till today Oga still never return from Airtime buying,, and his 100k never reflect till this moment too..
Me n my friend even waited 10mins at the spot for him to come back (this is same guy that wouldn't let me out of his view before, claiming he already transferred)
Left the post,, called him,, switched off.. Send him 3msgs,, till today Oga no reply no call me..
Idiot Scammer..!!!

My ADVICE: Do not meet at very late hours from 7pm down if,, and if you must,, Never go Alone..
Cause in most cases,, Those Scammer will always claim they transferred money and can't let go back off with the phone.. And in all fairness,, not all delayed alert are fake (yes I had a deal last week that I had to wait 45mins b4 money reflected),, so no buyer will let you go away with the phone while their money is still hanging on air..
But when you go with someone,, you can easily back out if the delay is out of normal,, or if buyer wants to prove stubborn...

Best in All.. is to deal in day time.. Esp banking hours.. in a public place

I sincerely feel "OKAYing" pickers to communicate with Sellers behind their respective dealhunter is a TIME BOMB waiting to explode..
What happens to Picker giving a certain respect to the DealHuter to inform him the Seller has new stuff,, then if the seller is not interested he can go ahead.
**Are you aware in some cases as a bargaining tactics, the hunter may intentional lowball and delay buying,, but in a situation he and picker are now COMPETING for a good, the picker can smarty big higher

**Did you know this Situation is similar to somebody Customer A contacting Lionlee (for instance) for a pick up, and says Customer B already posted it.. Then Customer A goes back to the seller to bid higher causing Customer B to lose the deal

**Have you thought thoroughly the implications of Pickers and Dealhuters competing for same good..? And the Pickers having the upper hand as they have access to the sellers

I'm sure 95% haven't seen or met these Pickers, all these are done on Integrity and Trust. This is a very bad attitude in my opinion..
Yes, he (picker) MAY not have done nothing wrong logically or technically, he's just being SMART eating off the poor DealHunters effort (who ofcourse have no physical access to the sellers), but look beyond the moment, see things on a more larger view.. THIS IS GOING TO HURT THIS PICK UP BIZ IN THE LONG RUN.

I sincerely think Closing the thread is the Right thing done in the wrong way.. Why not DEFINE spamming when it comes to pick up threads and ban those who spam directly.?
Why should pickers be the one responsible for their actions.? Not like the forum has given them the power to stop anyone from their thread..

Forget water resistance on any phone you did not personally buy brand new.. You cant be 100% sure,

also once a phone deviate from its factory certified condition I.e crack.. It is smart to assume it has lost its water resistance feature..
I've seen people who ask engineers even here on NL,, what will happen to their Samsung/iPhones if they will still retain the water resistance feature,, and most engineers are always smart to avoid that question.. Not always because they have anything to hide,, but because even in manufacturing factories a product (phone) pass through so many certifications/test under sophisticated machines before it can be packaged for sale.. and the ones that failed the test are returned and perfected again until they pass the test
.
These engineers do not and cannot afford these kind of machines,, so they cant simply give a direct answer to that question..
In a factory,, machines do the assembling and couplings,, before passing through the Certification Phase to make sure its 100% ready for sale... How much more phones that were coupled and assembled by Human during repair without passing through any Cerfication...??
