Now that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are launching across the world, the customary durability test on video has been released by the JerryRig Everything YouTube channel. As usual, Zack starts with the scratch test, using different Mohs picks. The S8’s Gorilla Glass 5 scratches at level 6, which is in line with expectations. The earpiece grille is made out of metal, but its position is a bit strange. On the back, the camera’s slightly-protruding ring is also metal, while the flash is under the back glass. If you want to know how long the S8 was able to take a flame directly on its screen and what happened afterwards, make sure you watch the entire video. Its final moment is all about the infamous bend test. If for some reason you’re unable to watch the video, know this: “there is almost zero flex to this thing”. No seals are being broken either, even if you apply a lot of pressure. So it looks like durability won’t be a concern for you if you buy an S8, except if you drop it of course. It’s a ‘glass sandwich’, after all, and glass does still shatter. Watch the video @ https://wearenigerians.com/technology/galaxy-s-8-durability-test-scratches-burns-tries-bend/

After not hearing about a major smartphone release from Sharp for a while, today the company is announcing a new high-end smartphone which carries the “Aquos” moniker with it. The Sharp Aquos R is the company’s newest top-tier offering packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM. The Aquos R features a 5.3-inch QHD touchscreen which is also HDR 10 capable. The IGZO display uses a higher refresh rate for more accurate screen input. There is no dual-camera, but the handset has a 22.6MP main camera complemented with a 16MP front-facing shooter. The main camera has an f/1.9 aperture with a 90-degree, wide-angle lens. There’s also OIS on board. Although it hasn’t yet been one full year since it made the M6 and M6 Plus official , it looks like Gionee simply can’t wait anymore and wants to unveil the M6S Plus this month. The Chinese company has started sending invites for the unveiling that will take place on April 24, so next Monday. You can see the official invite package in the pictures above and below this paragraph. Unfortunately they don’t reveal any specific details about the specs of the M6S Plus. However, a fingerprint scanner being included is a certainty as you have undoubtedly realized. We assume the dedicated security chip with ten layers of protection for your personal data, which debuted with the M6 and M6 Plus in 2016, is going to stay. The “M” series from Gionee, previously also known as “Marathon”, has always been about cramming huge batteries into mid-range smartphones, and we have no reason to think this will change with the next installment in the line. The M6 Plus that the new M6S Plus will replace came with a 6,020 mAh cell, believe it or not. Source https://wearenigerians.com/technology/gionee-m6-s-plus-will-officially-announced-april-24/

Samsung Galaxy S8 pre-orders have started shipping, and the first complaints about the device have already started pouring in. Some Korean customers are complaining about a reddish tint on their units’ displays. Correcting the phone’s color display settings allegedly doesn’t improve the situation. Reacting to the complaints, Samsung said, “It is not a quality problem and it can be adjusted with the phone itself. If the color still appears to be reddish, customers can change it at the service center.” That, however, hasn’t helped as some users said their phone’s display panel was already optimized. We’ll monitor the situation and update you if this turns out to be more than an isolated issue. Source https://wearenigerians.com/technology/samsung-galaxy-s-8-users-complaining-reddish-tint-display/

One of the features that was rumored for the Galaxy S8 , or at least the bigger S8+ , was a dual rear camera setup . Since these have become incredibly popular among Android phone makers in the past year, it would’ve made sense for Samsung to jump on that bandwagon. But in the end, as you probably know, it hasn’t. That, however, doesn’t mean that it didn’t test prototypes with that arrangement. Case in point: the two leaked images you can see below are of a Galaxy S8+ variant with dual rear cameras and no fingerprint sensor to be seen anywhere. So it was probably a prototype employing an under-screen fingerprint scanner too – which means it actually has two things that didn’t make it to the final S8+ model. The design of this unreleased S8+ prototype which surfaced today could serve as an indication of what we are to expect from the Galaxy Note8 coming this fall. It’s certain that Samsung will try to make the under-screen fingerprint sensor work, and since it has a few more months to develop it for the Note8, perhaps it will succeed. In the meantime, it can also fine-tune that dual rear camera setup, and these two features would neatly serve as differentiators between the Note8 and the S8+ if they do arrive in the former. In just a few days Xiaomi is expected to officially unveil the Mi 6 , and alongside that model we might even see the Mi Max 2 presented. The next-gen huge phablet from the Chinese company was spotted in a benchmark database recently , and today a Weibo user claims to have outed the first ever images depicting it. Unfortunately there’s no shot of the front, as you can see. Also do note that the handset is inside a transparent case in these pictures. Still, we get a very good idea about its design. What’s more, the source of these images has also reiterated the fact that the Mi Max 2 is to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 chipset, and not the 660 as thought a few months back. The device will have a 6.4-inch 1080p touchscreen, 4G LTE support, a 3.5mm headset jack, a USB Type-C port, an IR blaster, and an all metal build. The Huawei P10 is the Chinese phonemaker’s latest major smartphone release. Think of it like a smaller version of the Huawei Mate 9 . Much smaller, in fact. The major difference between the Mate 9 and the P10 besides the size and battery capacity is the omission of an IR-blaster on the P10, which totally would have put the cherry on top. Anyway, back to the teardown. Since the P10 has a 5.1-inch screen, you can imagine that Huawei had to accommodate identical internals from the Mate 9 to the P10. The resulting hardware build is quite impressive. Despite packing a respectable 3,200 mAh battery, notice how much space the battery takes up in the disassembled phone: almost the entire width of the phone. Take note, Apple. There’s still a little bit of waiting to be done on Samsung latest flagship pair. But even though the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are yet to hit shelves, there is already no shortage of various “test” videos on YouTube. Granted, things have been pretty tame so far, with most videos revolving around the unboxing experience and first look. So, if you were hoping for something more exciting, like baking the poor S8, or dunking it in some outlandish liquid, you should check back later. However, some of the more recognizable faces in this “destruction” niche have already managed to get their hands on the Galaxy S8 and did their thing. The Huawei Enjoy 7 Plus joins the company’s budget lineup and it stands a cut above its siblings with its 5.5” display (the previous Enjoys all had 5” displays). The design is largely identical to the Enjoy 6, but the hardware has some marked differences. Obviously, the screen is bigger, though it keeps the low-ish 720p resolution. Endurance should be a highlight of this phone as it boasts a 4,000mAh battery (100mAh less than the Enjoy 6 battery, but still a good size). The chipset is replaced with a Snapdragon 435, which promises a good balance between performance and power efficiency. RAM is 3GB, but the storage was doubled to 32GB. The Huawei Enjoy 7 Plus has a new camera setup as well. A 12MP cam adorns the back, while an 8MP cam on the front is ready for your selfies. By the way, below the camera on the back is a fingerprint reader. The 7 Plus will launch in China first with a recent Android 7.0 Nougat, priced at CNY 1,600. That’s around $230/€220, though expect it to cost a bit more once it reaches other countries (due to local taxes). And no, we don’t know what happened to the non-Plus Enjoy 7. Girls will always be girls and we love to talk so we will talk but as ladies, there are some things that are better left unsaid. “Even when you’re with your best-friend-ever and you’ve had a few glasses of wine, discretion is best, if you want to avoid embarrassment and potential hurt to your partner later”. If you want to make your relationship last long then you need to stop discussing your relationship with people. Here are some things you should discuss with your friends about your man. His income: Success is a very important thing for men, so don’t ever discuss how much your man is making with your friends. “Finances are a personal thing between the two of you and you will really hurt him if you make out that he can’t provide for you”. His annoying habits at home: “His home is his place of safety where he can chill out and relax. If there is something he does at home that really bugs you, then talk to him about it, not to your friends”. A couple of weeks ago Samsung confirmed what had been rumored for a while – refurbished Galaxy Note7 s will be made available, only not in the US (and not in India, either ). Well, now a few live photos allegedly showing one such unit have surfaced out of Vietnam, where the company does have manufacturing facilities, so it could very well be the real thing. https://wearenigerians.com/technology/refurbished-galaxy-note7-surfaces-3200mah-battery-time/
