Congrats on your F1 visa. Were you given a 3 month visa as the consulate previously stated? And was the date of issue the same as the start date of the visa validity? There has been some discrepancy and discussion about this, even on this thread, so any info will be appreciated.

The consulate discourages applicants from emailing for updates until 60 days. I'm on 54 days now.

@kimpoyo13 was right. That is the official rules stipulated by the U.S embassy. The person who posted experience did not post evidence of it . Even if the person posted the evidences then, that means the embassy broke their own rules.. 👍

I attended my f1 visa interview in Abuja on July 3rd 2025, I was placed on administrative processing for social media vetting. I received my passport yesterday without no visa stamp or any foil5ij my passport, and my status still remain on the traditional "Refused" for administrativd processing. There was an inscription in the passport where they ticked that there's no action required from me and make your account set to public was underlined. However, my social media accounts all in public, tested these through people who aren't my friends on social media. What should I do?

Hello people, please I need advice. I intend to apply for an Ivy League mba in the USA. It’s very expensive but I intend to take loan of day $100k which is very high.

How do I defend this given that I would be expected to return to Nigeria after schooling. Which I obviously won’t as my aim is to stay back. Ivy League MBA guarantees a really good job at least 90% of the time in the USA.

I see people go for these Ivy League programs, how do they scale through to get student visa. I will appreciate any help please.

I applied to three schools, southern Illinois University, Alabama State and Lincoln but I chosed Lincoln cause it offers more benefit like capstone project and graduate certifications in areas like business analytics and marketing management

V.o Then he asked of my funding

After my father Left, my step dad has been taking care of me for a long time and he is the Cofounder of mowatek Nigeria where I currently work as a junior operational coordinator and he makes over 120 million naira every 6 months then he said 20 million per year and I said no 120 million every 6 months which equates to over 200 million per year and he owns two mobile rigs worth millions and he just continued typing

Then I told him I have a bank statement with me but he didn't request it

What does your company do
We do water treatment's, sewage treatment and also geophysical drilling which aligns with what i studied in school and that we have worked with Shell and seplat before

What did you study
I studied applied geophysics and it aligns with my current job role as a junior operational coordinator and some of my roles include reports preparations, I assist in also preparing projects budget and projects timelines also, and I also meet with clients for project requirements and specifications (he was nodding and staring into my face while I was saying this)


When did you finish school

I finished last year and continued work after school

I was already feeling confident here cause he only asked two to three questions to the people who were in front of me before handling them the blue paper,

I am a junior operational coordinator and I listed my roles

No sir but my cousin was in the US sometimes ago and he is back to Nigeria

What would you be doing after this course
I said I would be applying the skills the degree would give me in my intending role as a operational director and I would be spearheading the company growth into international market like ghana and other countries

While he was typing, I also told him I have a document that attest to my intending role of a operational director


Then he brought out the blue paper, so I asked him if I can know the reason for my denial and he said it's in the blue script

You can change from Lagos to Abuja or vice versa . To do this, you will have to be using only " Reschedule option (do not click on cancel). And no, you do not have to pay another visa fee. ▪︎▪︎ However, you must fill another ds-160 form in order to match with your final embassy preference and update it inside your avits profile . 👍

A possible fruitless effort. You can't send a reminder to the embassy staffs in order to awaken them to their jobs. Your existing ER is pending and they have the record, they knows your start of class and they will decide if to grant your request out of hundreds.

■ Keep using the lifeline of " Reschedule " to look for nearer dates. All incoming F1- visa applicants should do the needful and follow all application instructions fully. Pay sevis fee, fill ds-160 completely by signing and submit, and date-sign your form I-20. 👍

Helping someone with booking and the ONLY date that has been showing up on his end for the past 10hrs is Dec 29 2026. Is that only him or is anyone else seeing this? What's strange isnt the fact that the date is far away, it's that it's the ONLY date that has been showing up for over 10 hrs.

I think by city of residence he meant cost of living expenses in the university town you picked. Did it affect your i 20 deficit?

Though i think you already said you had no deficit.

Besides cost of attendance usually includes tuition and living expenses

Did the city of your residence play a role in determining the deficit on your i-20?
Thank you so much. I initially planned to sit for both tests, but things didn't work out as expected, and I was hit hard. That's why I'm prioritizing schools that don't require them. However, if an opportunity arises, I won't hesitate to register and take either the GRE or TOEFL. I'm currently working on a paper and aim to have at least two publications by August next year. Your request will be granted without paying SEVIS fee, it isn't compulsory. I did it and it was approved, I only paid my SEVIS fee few days to the interview. Be patient, your emergency request will be approved.
There are no dates, you just need to be wait.

All visas to the US are solely to present yourself at the point of entry, at which admission would be determined by the CBP officer. That said, there is something called an I-94 document for every registered traveler to the US. This document contains the REAL status of your stay in the US.

Student petitions/visas usually reflect a " D/S", or "duration of studies," on the applicants' I-94 status once granted. which means you can stay till the end of your studies.

The validity of the visa only affects the period of travel, NOT the period of stay, which is determined by the I-94. your visa could expire, and your stay in the US would still be valid depending on your i-94 status

The only issue is that once you begin your studies, it would be very inconvenient to have to travel outside the US because you will then need another visa to re-enter each time you leave.

Either way, it's a very inconvenient policy for Nigerian travelers. Those that have it worse are visitors, tourists, and business travelers whose I-94 is automatically tied to the visa duration and cannot, for any reason, stay beyond the 3-month limit.
