Lmaaaooi😂😂😂😂. Thank you bro.
Poormanpikin:
I've been expecting to read about your visa approval testimony, and I'm thrilled to finally hear the good news! Congratulations! Now, go ahead and book that business class flight with Qatar Airways.

Yea. 3months. Your validity starts the moment your visa is issued.
JohnZak:
Congrats on your F1 visa. Were you given a 3 month visa as the consulate previously stated? And was the date of issue the same as the start date of the visa validity? There has been some discrepancy and discussion about this, even on this thread, so any info will be appreciated.

Which consulate is this exactly. Because I had my own interview at the Lagos embassy yesterday morning, August 20th, and my visa was issued this morning August 21st, on my caec portal. Exactly 24hrs after my interview. Infact I was called to come and collect my passport today.
kimpoyo13:
The consulate discourages applicants from emailing for updates until 60 days. I'm on 54 days now.

I read some tweets of people who citizens of western countries on a popular social media platform and I realized that a lot were approved the next day, and some before the end of the week.
Efetobore1980:
@kimpoyo13 was right. That is the official rules stipulated by the U.S embassy. The person who posted experience did not post evidence of it . Even if the person posted the evidences then, that means the embassy broke their own rules.. 👍
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Timshin(f):
I hope you can see the date and time I modified my appointment date and the time I downloaded my new pdf. 25th of July,2025, which was last week friday. Trust me, 2025 dates dropped and about 6 of us in our date group got a 2025 date, the majority of us got August, and very few got Sepetember. If your Internet isn't fast, they might have snapped it before it even shows on your portal. Your hands have to be on deck.
PrimePride:
I don't think you are totally correct about this, because last week Friday, date was not even showing for Lagos
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Timshin(f): 7:37pm On Aug 02, 2025
There hasnt been any dates since they resumed back to work ke. How come I was able to pick August 2025 last week friday. Last friday was filled with a lot of 2025 dates, both August, September, and October around 1:33pm. You probably missed those dates when they were released. Just keep checking the dates, a large number of students would be resuming this August, which would give room for the remaining lesser students to see dates. They will surely release more hopefully by 2nd week of August. You should join a visa date group so you can get alerted once dates drop.
I don't think the guy is been honest about the date he saw, i have been actively searching for date too, and there hasn't been date since they resumed back to work. in fact i am still looking and nothing is showing up in Lagos embassy again
Hello bro, good evening. Your I20 with zero deficit is sufficient for your visa interview. There won't be a need for any bank statement. The school didn't request for any bank statement from me because it was a merit scholarship. All they asked me to fill on the international student platform was my biodata information. Then, I submitted my scanned copy of my passport biodate page, and my admission letter. The departmental chair herself sent my funding letter to them. So you do not have any problem at all once you secure a full ride scholarship. As for you considering an Ivy league, there is no problem about that. Scholarships are based on merit, and if your department can afford to give you a full scholarship, then the details will show on your I20. Full fundings cover all aspects from tuition down to living expenses down to health and dental insurance. So you dont have to worry about bank statement. Fundings only influence the location of your school if your school is situated in a place with high costs e.g California, New york, e.t.c and they can help you add to your living expenses which would slightly differ with the amount your friends are collecting. Thats only IF. Mind you, that is the least of your worries, what you should be particular about now is to find out yourself if the department of the schools you would be applying to offer full fundings. If they do, make sure you exceed all their requirements because applications would be sent in from all corners of the world. Goodluck.. quote author=Poormanpikin post=136309362]Hello Aunty Timshin,

I hope you're doing well. You mentioned you received a fully funded scholarship with zero deficit, and I'm curious about a few things.

Will the I-20 with full funding with zero deficit be sufficient for the visa interview without needing to show a bank statement?
Did the school issue your I-20 without requiring a bank statement since it's a full funding?
I'm considering applying to an Ivy League school that offers a full-ride scholarship for my course. Will there still be a deficit on my I-20 given their location?

If a full-ride scholarship guarantees a zero-deficit I-20, it would definitely influence my decision to apply.
Nothing is wrong my brother. Normally, they arent supposed to take your passport from you. They would just run their check and send you an email to submit your passport if you scale through the background check. So set your social media to public and await their decision.
Ayinbatun18:
Please I need your advice.

I attended my f1 visa interview in Abuja on July 3rd 2025, I was placed on administrative processing for social media vetting. I received my passport yesterday without no visa stamp or any foil5ij my passport, and my status still remain on the traditional "Refused" for administrativd processing. There was an inscription in the passport where they ticked that there's no action required from me and make your account set to public was underlined. However, my social media accounts all in public, tested these through people who aren't my friends on social media. What should I do?

You want to take a loan of 100k? Please abort that mission. First of all, Mpower will not give you a loan of more than 50k usd per annum, and I don't think Prodigy too will, besides there is no loan company that will give you a loan of 100k usd because they would be skeptical about you paying them back. Secondly, are you aware that you would be paying the interest of that loan at a higher rate all through school? If you collect a loan of 100k, you can be paying an interest of up to 1500 to 2000 usd per month. Remember that you will still need to feed, pay your rent, and utilities, and other miscellaneous. So how do you want to cope. Lest you forget, even if you are lucky to get a job in a fortune 500 company, the way America is designed, you might not be able to pay that loan off in the next 30years of your life. Do you want that life?. Now to my advise, relax and calm down. Admission process isnt something you can rush. Find schools that can pay up to 50 to 60% of your tuition, and even if you would be taking out a loan, it would be very very little. Its not compulsory to go to an ivy league, it would only plunge you into debt.Check out affordable but not low ranked business schools and get your degree there, it doesn't stop you from getting fantastic jobs. Companies prefer candidates who have great minds and can solve problems. They wont eat the name of your school either you are from MIT or Harvard. There are tons of testimonies out there about people who went to affordable schools for their business degrees and got their dream jobs. It's not worth it if you finish your degree in a year, and get plunged into debts and you start having sleepless nights. It would only be worth it if at the end of your degree, you get your salary and have left overs comfortably without getting worried about debts. Think about your family too, they need you to help them out at home. Note that this advise is not to condemn or discourage you, its from a heart of positivity and resilience. It's from someone who was in your shoes 2 years ago, but went back to re-examine everything and finally got a fully funded scholarship later to study. I wish you all the best bro.
SimpleGuy001:
Hello people, please I need advice. I intend to apply for an Ivy League mba in the USA. It’s very expensive but I intend to take loan of day $100k which is very high.

How do I defend this given that I would be expected to return to Nigeria after schooling. Which I obviously won’t as my aim is to stay back. Ivy League MBA guarantees a really good job at least 90% of the time in the USA.

I see people go for these Ivy League programs, how do they scale through to get student visa. I will appreciate any help please.

Thank you

To tell you the truth, I dont think the embassy is responding to emergency requests for now, so its best you just forget it. All you have to do now is to be on that portal as much as you can. I also submitted a request in the first week of july, and I havent gotten a message from them till now. However, out of frustration, I started my vigilante work on that portal on Monday and I was lucky to get an August date on Friday. Infact there were lots of available 2025 dates flashed back to back on Friday. So if you really need a date, start your vigilante work too. Trust me, they release 2025 dates, and they are still going to release more, but you will only get it if you keep your hands glued to that portal.

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Timshin(f): 3:51pm On Jul 25, 2025
Hello Ify. Yes you can use your date. You just have to fill in a new ds 160 to match your lagos appointment, then update your barcode on your avits portal because filling in a new ds would generate a new barcode for you. Its simple.
Ifemeze:
Hello everyone,

I choose FCT when I opened AVITS profile but I found a date in Lagos. Can I use that date or must I book appointment in Abuja. Has anyone done this before and successfully attended their interview?

So sorry about this sis. I think one of the problems here is too much information. Additionally, please work on your funding because they will ask you what has changed in your application since the last denial. Talk to your school about assistantships, or on campus jobs. Finally, when the Vo asked if you had someone in the US, *No, I don't* should have been your answer. If you already signified NO in your Ds 160, why changing your answer again. There shouldn't be any but...the details were information you could have quietly left out since you are sure that your cousin is back here. I think he had an issue with you there. Remember, just one hesitation could certify your entire answers as false. Probably that was why he gave you that blue paper. Its not the end of the world sis, just be more prepared next time. Well done!
Teniolasmart:
Went for my interview today and was denied, here is my transcript below, can anyone point out my flaws please

LAGOS EMBASSY
DEGREE: MBA
ZERO FUNDING

Before we started I told him I stutter sometimes and he said no problem, he understands

V.o pass me your passport and i20

Me: Good morning

V.o Have you been to the US before

No sir , I have not had any reason to cause if school and after school I was busy with work

V.o How many schools did you apply to

I applied to three schools, southern Illinois University, Alabama State and Lincoln but I chosed Lincoln cause it offers more benefit like capstone project and graduate certifications in areas like business analytics and marketing management

V.o Then he asked of my funding

After my father Left, my step dad has been taking care of me for a long time and he is the Cofounder of mowatek Nigeria where I currently work as a junior operational coordinator and he makes over 120 million naira every 6 months then he said 20 million per year and I said no 120 million every 6 months which equates to over 200 million per year and he owns two mobile rigs worth millions and he just continued typing

Then I told him I have a bank statement with me but he didn't request it

What does your company do
We do water treatment's, sewage treatment and also geophysical drilling which aligns with what i studied in school and that we have worked with Shell and seplat before

What did you study
I studied applied geophysics and it aligns with my current job role as a junior operational coordinator and some of my roles include reports preparations, I assist in also preparing projects budget and projects timelines also, and I also meet with clients for project requirements and specifications (he was nodding and staring into my face while I was saying this)

When did you finish school

I finished last year and continued work after school

I was already feeling confident here cause he only asked two to three questions to the people who were in front of me before handling them the blue paper,

What do you do
I am a junior operational coordinator and I listed my roles

Do you know anyone in the us

No sir but my cousin was in the US sometimes ago and he is back to Nigeria

What would you be doing after this course
I said I would be applying the skills the degree would give me in my intending role as a operational director and I would be spearheading the company growth into international market like ghana and other countries

While he was typing, I also told him I have a document that attest to my intending role of a operational director

Then he brought out the blue paper, so I asked him if I can know the reason for my denial and he said it's in the blue script

You can change from Lagos to Abuja or vice versa . To do this, you will have to be using only " Reschedule option (do not click on cancel). And no, you do not have to pay another visa fee. ▪︎▪︎ However, you must fill another ds-160 form in order to match with your final embassy preference and update it inside your avits profile . 👍

Hello bro. Please I have another question. If as a result of unlimited dates in Lagos, I got lucky with Abuja and I booked an appointment, will I have to pay for new visa fees? I have scheduled an initial lagos appointment for Dec 15, but I want to switch to Abuja if I get dates. Secondly, My Ds 160 carries Lagos, but I havent submitted it. Will it affect my bar codes if I switch my location? Thanks.
Efetobore1980:

A possible fruitless effort. You can't send a reminder to the embassy staffs in order to awaken them to their jobs. Your existing ER is pending and they have the record, they knows your start of class and they will decide if to grant your request out of hundreds.

■ Keep using the lifeline of " Reschedule " to look for nearer dates. All incoming F1- visa applicants should do the needful and follow all application instructions fully. Pay sevis fee, fill ds-160 completely by signing and submit, and date-sign your form I-20. 👍

Ohhh. I get. If you are awarded a full scholarship, you will be paid stipends per month and the calculation of your stipends for the academic year would suffice for your living expenses, which would reflect in your scholarship.
Taal17:
I think by city of residence he meant cost of living expenses in the university town you picked. Did it affect your i 20 deficit?

Though i think you already said you had no deficit.

Besides cost of attendance usually includes tuition and living expenses

Hello Sam. First of all congrats on taking a very valuable step in your career. I wrote my GRE exam a year ago and I dont have access to those study documents again. However, I studied from textbooks such as Magoosh, Kaplan, Baron, and the ETS guide. I also took lessons from a private tutor. You can subscribe to Gremat's plan on youtube. His platform is very good for applicants preparing for the exam. The moment you pay for your exam, ETS will give you a guide which contains their questions and answers. Please note that GRE is not a difficult exam, but it's an exam that will walk through your intelligence. So you need to study as far as you can convince yourself that you are ready to write the exam. Don't look at others writing it before you. Just be sure you are ready. I trust you will pass. Enjoy your night.
samsolite:
Hi, I'm quoting you based on the highlighted text.

No my city residence didnt. I'm a full bloodied Nigerian. I live in Nigeria too. I only did my best and depended on God for the rest. Its good to hear that you are prioritizing publishing your papers. I wish you great luck.
Poormanpikin:
@GboyegaD and FunnyDude thank you so much and I appreciate.

@Timshin
Did the city of your residence play a role in determining the deficit on your i-20?
Thank you so much. I initially planned to sit for both tests, but things didn't work out as expected, and I was hit hard. That's why I'm prioritizing schools that don't require them. However, if an opportunity arises, I won't hesitate to register and take either the GRE or TOEFL. I'm currently working on a paper and aim to have at least two publications by August next year. Thank you for the advice, and God bless you.

Lmaoooo, calm down bro. That information is not true. My I20 carries a fully funded phd scholarship with zero deficit, as exact as my cost of attendance. No addition, no subtraction. I wrote a GRE though, and I scored very very high. So just do your best. Regarding that guy who told you to write a GRE, I think you misunderstood him. As much as some schools might give you a scholarship because you didnt submit a test score, submitting your test score is no big deal. Even though a lot make up for your admission decision and your test score is not a major limitation, it could still be a source of uniqueness in your application. It could make you extremely competitive. The professor(s) that would recommend you might be looking for a quantitative applicant to work with, they might be looking for an eloquent and articulate applicant in terms of publications. You just wouldn't know what they are looking for....and remember, this is a new America, you will be competiting against thousands of applicants who are also trying everything out...Now fundings are difficult to get because currently their new government made a large cut across thousands of universities in the US, which is why you have to stand out in your application. If you can afford to save up and write your standardized exams, its a great idea, but if you can't, make sure you work with your supervisor to help publish your thesis, and be meticulous in others areas to make you a strong applicant, and pray for God's direction to the right school. All the best brother.

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Timshin(f): 10:05pm On Jul 10, 2025
Thank you for this insightful analysis.
snoopy:
All visas to the US are solely to present yourself at the point of entry, at which admission would be determined by the CBP officer. That said, there is something called an I-94 document for every registered traveler to the US. This document contains the REAL status of your stay in the US.

Student petitions/visas usually reflect a " D/S", or "duration of studies," on the applicants' I-94 status once granted. which means you can stay till the end of your studies.

The validity of the visa only affects the period of travel, NOT the period of stay, which is determined by the I-94. your visa could expire, and your stay in the US would still be valid depending on your i-94 status

The only issue is that once you begin your studies, it would be very inconvenient to have to travel outside the US because you will then need another visa to re-enter each time you leave.

Either way, it's a very inconvenient policy for Nigerian travelers. Those that have it worse are visitors, tourists, and business travelers whose I-94 is automatically tied to the visa duration and cannot, for any reason, stay beyond the 3-month limit.
