Next available slots are July 2026..over one year from now. Most people will have to defer since I've only heard of one emergency request approval.

I think during the first attempt when they asked what you were going to do in the US, you could have just told them your purpose. I'm going to the University of xxxx in the city of xxxxx for my Masters or PhD in xxxxxxx, with specializations in xxxxxxx. Note: this is the main reason for your travel. You didn't need to over explain. All they wanted to know was your purpose.

Secondly, why you chose the school. This is one very important question Vos are always highly interested in. So you must provide as much clarity as you can. Telling them a professor asked you to join their research group isn't enough clarity and it may sound suspicious to them. You need to identify a knowledge gap in your profession that you think would justify the reason you chose the school and the department, then tie it to your home. Something like ' I chose the University of xxxxx because the department of xxxxxx offers excellent research in xxxxxxx( identify that knowledge gap) which happens to be the core of my masters or phd research. Additionally, I believe learning from prof xxxxx( mention that prof) and other world class faculty members, as well as through leveraging the expertise and resources available in the department, I would be able to conduct more ground breaking research which will offer critical solutions to help improve xxxxx (mention that knowledge gap that has plagued your profession in your country), and upon the completion of my program, I would be coming back to Nigeria to introduce my findings as a xxxxxxx(mention the role) at xxxxxx(mention your company) where I will be leading strategic actions through xxxxxxx. Remember your strongest point as to come before your weakest points. Vos want to listen to something new not what people say everytime.

In your second Interview, what has changed? You could have answered that you were able to secure a scholarship from xxxxxxx which will cover (mention the percentage of the tuition it covers, as well as the percentage of the living expenses, health and dental insurance that it covers). Then you can go ahead to explain how you got it in your company or through your department. You can talk about showing your documentation after that. Remember you have to show as much clarity as you can. YOUR STRONGEST POINTS FIRST. I wish you all the best bro. You wont be the first and the last to go back to the embassy for an interview after many attempts. Prepare and pray. Go get it.

Applied for F-1 visa and had two 214b refusal in December 2024 - Abuja. I'm reapplying to same school for fall 2025, searching for date. I have full funding from a government office - my workplace.

What are you going to do in the US?: I explained the course and major I was going for, and my sponsors.

Why did you choose this school?: Prof. XYZ research aligns with my career goals, I contacted him and he has accepted that I join his research group.

How long have you worked?: Two years and nine months? I got the job through a referral from my undergrad professor who I worked with during my thesis

Are you married? No

Have you traveled outside Nigeria before? No

I would not be approving your visa at this time.

Side note: I have a mild hearing loss, so I asked V.O to repeat the question several times and she looked pissed off by that, I didn't think it through to explain that medical condition it on both interviews.

Second Interview:

Just one question and I got refused.

What has changed since your last application?: I have been able to bring documentation to support my funding, and before I could explain she cut me short, with "but I can see that already in your I-20". That was the end of the interview.

I still have the funding, but I'm very nervous about my next interview, I intended to apply to Abuja, what can I genuinely do to improve my chances, how best can I explain my story? What general advice do you have for me?

Click on total appointment. The first box on that page where you have 1 appointment. It will take you straight to view details. Click view details and you will see create emergency request. You can move from there. Check what I attached below for guidance.

Pick one date and expedite your appointment before everything goes off again. I picked December 2025 ooo.

If your refusal wasn't within the last year (12 months from your current appointment) according to the instruction on the portal, I think you should be good. Then if not Chikzy, I think you should just speak to your school at this point, if deferrement would be an option.

Calm down sis, we are all in the same boat. I watched ZF visa's live Q and A session at dawn this morning. ZF and his partner are both US diplomats who were visa officers but now diverted their careers as immigration attorneys. During the Q and A, the man said that even though the pause has been lifted, embassies world wide are slowly updating their systems and by next week, the dates will circulate. He mentioned that Peru opened their system yesterday and his clients were able to pick their dates. So lets be hopeful that by next week the embassies here in Nigeria will update theirs too. If you want to know more about the questions he addresed, you can watch ZF visa on youtube. This morning's session is still there.

Pls I would like to ask Is it compulsory for your USA visa appointment process to go through pre approval stage because I paid my visa fee and I saw the calendar but there are currently no date for the location i choose, and lastly I didn’t see any where I needed to upload my I-20, I also used card to pay for my MRV fee

I saw it yesterday night and this morning too. I was able to login this morning at first, then on my second attempt it told me they were updating it. Then I tried re-logging in after 20mins, and it logged me in. So you should try it again.

Am I the only one seeing this? The Avits website is currently under maintenance.i hope appointment dates are available after this upgrade.

I think not been able to schedule an appointment is from their side, because navigating beyond june talkless of other months or years seems impossible.

I saw that screenshot on NAFSA's website so let's still be hopeful.

I dont think this news is applicable to Nigerians for now. The information stated that only countries suspended or limited which started on the 9th of june. The pfficer clearly stated that in her message. Nigeria just joined those under review in a new review statement which was released yesterday. Not yet banned or suspended. So been under review doesnt affect your appointment bookings.

Hi Godsknight and congratulations. I also got into the University of Rhode Island too for a PhD in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics although I'm still awaiting my appointment date. Its really great to see someone heading to my school because I have searched a lot. Hopefully we meet over there before the fall 2025 classes starts.

Me: I work as a support worker , I support people with mental health conditions . Although it is not related to what I studied in school ,the job gives me flexibility, it gives me time to prepare for my exams and learn technical skills that will be beneficial to the program .
V.O : how do you want to fund the program ?
Me: The program is fully funded . I have a funding package that covers the tuition, and also includes stipend of 23k per annum to cover the primary expenses . I also have a personal savings…he cut me off , checked my I-20 and smiled
V.O : Why do you need the degree ?
Me: My long term goal is to pursue a career in academic , become an independent researcher so as to contribute to the body of knowledge in supply chain… he cut me off

The interview took about 3-4 minutes . The interview was so smooth and VO was so friendly .

So far you are legally residing residing in Europe, you can apply from there,location of the sponsor does not matter, what matters is having a sponsor.
