Huawei Just Started Selling Laptops With A Beautiful Linux OS Pre-Installed

Some of the best and most affordable premium laptops on the market are now shipping with Linux pre-installed. More specifically they’re shipping with Deepin, a beautiful and polished desktop Linux distribution which, like Huawei, are based in China. Whether this is a result of the ongoing trade dispute between the United States and China is unknown, but it’s a nice step forward for the proliferation of Linux alternatives promoted by major OEMs like Dell and Lenovo.

Let’s get the disappointing news out of the way first. Right now these select Huawei laptops with Linux are only rolling out in China, via Huawei’s official e-commerce store VMall.com.

The exact models available with Deepin Linux are the Huawei MateBook X Pro, Huawei MateBook 13 and Huawei MateBook 14. It also looks like you’re stuck with the stock options for each model.


Now on to the positive news. Huawei has ditched the traditional Windows logo key on these Linux models and replaced it with key that simply reads “Start.” And as you’d expect, these 3 models cost 300 CNY (or about $42 USD) less than their Windows 10 counterparts.

As for Deepin, its Chinese origins tend to ignite controversy (and anxiety within privacy purists) in the Linux world, however the distribution is open source and the code is available on GitHub. Politics and privacy stances aside, Deepin is one of the most stunning Linux desktops out there – and it’s also available in English.

Deepin’s open source nature does mean that Huawei is free to make alterations to it for their own purposes.

One of the main draws for Huawei may be Deepin’s recently added Cloud Sync feature allowing you to sync various system settings to the cloud. This covers network settings (such as VPN and WiFi), sound settings, mouse settings, update settings, power settings, corner settings, theme, wallpaper, launcher, and dock. Definitely useful for installing the OS on multiple machines, or easily regaining your customizations after a clean install.

It’s also worth noting that all three of these Huawei laptops run any Linux distribution like a dream, not just Deepin.

Could this be a precursor to Huawei offering Linux on select laptops globally? Or perhaps a trial run to gauge interest in alternatives to Windows 10, such as its own open source HarmonyOS? I don’t have the answers, but it should be very interesting to watch things unfold.

By the way, if you’re looking for premium laptops from a major OEM that ships a little closer to home, consider Dell’s Developer Edition lineup.

Last week, Google’s Project Zero security research team detailed what it described as “one of the largest attacks against iPhone users ever.” Now, Apple has responded to Google’s findings – taking issue with many of the claims.



Google’s findings last week detailed a series of hacked websites, which were randomly distributing malware to iPhone users. Once a user visited one of the malicious websites and the malware was deployed, the implant “primarily focused on stealing files and uploading live location data,” as often as every 60 seconds.

In a new statement, Apple accuses Google’s blog post of “creating the false impression of mass exploitation,” despite the fact that “this was never the case.” Apple says the flaws detailed by Google were never “broad-based” and instead affected fewer than a dozen websites focused on content targeting to the Uighur community. This was first reported by TechCrunch last weekend.

First, the sophisticated attack was narrowly focused, not a broad-based exploit of iPhones “en masse” as described. The attack affected fewer than a dozen websites that focus on content related to the Uighur community. Regardless of the scale of the attack, we take the safety and security of all users extremely seriously.

Google’s post, issued six months after iOS patches were released, creates the false impression of “mass exploitation” to “monitor the private activities of entire populations in real time,” stoking fear among all iPhone users that their devices had been compromised. This was never the case.

Furthermore, Apple says that the website attacks were only operational “for a brief period,” whereas Google claimed they ran for “two years.” Apple also reiterated that the vulnerability was patched in iOS 12.1.4.

Second, all evidence indicates that these website attacks were only operational for a brief period, roughly two months, not “two years” as Google implies. We fixed the vulnerabilities in question in February — working extremely quickly to resolve the issue just 10 days after we learned about it. When Google approached us, we were already in the process of fixing the exploited bugs.

Ultimately, Apple says that “security is a never-ending journey” and that iOS security is “unmatched.” The company also says that it takes full responsibility for end-to-end encryption on all of its devices and in its software:

Its very priceless to be alive today and we should value the precious minutes we have with anyone close to us cause they are priceless moments.

I know on this platform we are so quick to display rage in the form of text and images.
Not to forget how tribalistic and sentimental we are to many things.

I once read on this forum where a lady was pleading for the South Africans to kill all the igbos, and i just caught a thought imagining if they fulfilled her wishes and they were all wiped out what next?
They would jump to the next item on the table which is (they will seek every opportunity to punch at their fellow tribesmen, criticize, hate and even kill themselves cause they've fallen short of opposite tribes to act on) Its human Nature!

Oh YES i am mad cause i'm trying to make a difference.

I was just told a story moments ago by a close relation about a bad travelling experience that involved loss of items, it was enraging and spiting, i didn't know how to process it.



Then all of a sudden i just cooled off and said to myself hey! that wasnt bad at all!
I mean what's worse than losing a loved one, a close friend or a family member, people die every day by travelling etc.
How would you compare losing a few properties or resources to losing a living being or loved one?
Ofcourse its depressing but its something you can regain with time but no life can be regained or replaced.


It just begs the question of how much value we have placed on human lives.

So many incidents have occurred in favour of the resourceful hands of the Cold Ice Master. Death against the Nigerian enterprise.
Some days back we woke up to the news of the butchering and burning out of the priceless lives of our brothers and sisters in far away South Africa, weeks back it was Saudi Arabia killing some Nigerians over drug dealing etc.

Lest i forget, months back there was series of Fulani Herdsmen attacks followed by the bad stench of Suicidal deaths.

Now from all of this its very obvious we have placed little value over people's life to the extent we attached same to ours.

Have you ever been alone and lonely even with all the data access, social media friends you still feel left out?

I once heard of a US billionaire who commited suicide, even with all the money he had he wasnt happy.
He could literrally buy any girl, boy or gadgets as a companion but as you already know he won't get any joy out of it.

How would the world be for you if you can't communicate and have fun with another human being?
If i'm in a desert without water and i see someone the first reaction is to try to understand or communicate before i can be able to ask for water.

So i want to say A very Big Thank You for Being Alive Today and reading this post.
It means a lot to me.
I would appreciate if you thank your friends, family even a stranger just for being alive. Its a gift that must be appreciated.

Nearly a year after it began testing in Colombia, Facebook Dating is now available in the United States. The product, which is available to users 18 and older, will appear as a new tab within the Facebook mobile app. People who opt in to Dating can create a profile that’s separate from their main Facebook profile with one tap and meet potential romantic partners among their friends of friends — or, if that makes you uncomfortable, completely outside of your existing friend network.


Facebook says it will suggest matches for you based on preferences you express when you create your profile, along with your interests and Facebook activity. The app, which borrows many design elements from the dating app Hinge, allows you to send a “like” and a corresponding message to any profile you encounter on the service.

You won’t see your Facebook friends in the app unless you use its “secret crush” feature, which lets you express interest in up to nine Facebook friends (or Instagram followers). If you both like each other, you’ll get a notification letting you know. (“Probably one of the best notifications of their life,” product manager Nathan Sharp told The Verge.)


Facebook Dating is free and contains no ads or in-app purchases.

“We didn’t want to include anything around swiping or games,” Sharp said. “Facebook Dating is about conversations.”

Dating is also integrated with Facebook groups and events. If people in a group you’re in have created Dating profiles or if they’re planning to attend the same Facebook events, they might show up in your matches.

With today’s launch — and an antitrust case against the company looming — Facebook is stepping up Dating’s integration with Instagram. As on Tinder and Hinge, you can now optionally add a module to your profile showing your recent Instagram photos. And in the coming months, Facebook says, you’ll be able to add ephemeral stories — both from Facebook and Instagram — to your profile as well. (Details about how that integration will look and feel aren’t ready to share, the company said.)


Facebook Dating also has a potentially powerful feature to protect users’ safety: you can tap a shield icon to share details of an upcoming date with a friend or family member using Facebook Messenger, as well as temporarily sharing your live location. That way, they’ll be able to keep tabs on you when you’re meeting a new person.

With today’s launch, Facebook Dating is now available in 20 countries. In addition to the United States, it’s now live in Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vietnam.

The product will come to Europe early next year, Facebook said.


Can Facebook Dating succeed? The company says its research shows that 40 percent of people are unsatisfied with their current dating app (seems low!), and the fact that Facebook has brought the product to 20 countries in under a year suggests that it has been popular with early users.


The company wouldn’t share any statistics, but it is aware of engagements and marriages that have taken place between people who met on the app, Sharp said.

Chinese technology giant Huawei on Friday launched what it is calling world's most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) processor -- the Ascend 910 -- along with an all-scenario AI computing framework called MindSpore.

The Ascend 910 is a new AI processor that belongs to the company's series of Ascend-Max chipsets.

The telecom giant had announced that the processor's planned specifications at its 2018 flagship event, Huawei Connect, and after a year of development, results now show that the Ascend 910 processor delivers with much lower power consumption than originally planned, according to the company.


"We have been making steady progress since we announced our AI strategy in October 2018. Everything is moving forward according to plan, from "R & D" to product launch.

"We promised a full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio and today we delivered, with the release of Ascend 910 and MindSpore. This also marks a new stage in Huawei's AI strategy," Eric Xu, Rotating Chairman, Huawei, said in a statement.


Despite its performance, Ascend 910's max power consumption is only 310W, much lower than its planned specifications (350W).

The chipset is used for AI model training and in a typical training session based on ResNet-50, the combination of Ascend 910 and MindSpore is about two times faster at training AI models than other mainstream training cards using TensorFlow.

Huawei also said that it will continue investing in AI processors to deliver more abundant, affordable and adaptable computing power that meets the needs of a broad range of scenarios such as edge computing, on-vehicle computing for autonomous driving and training.



The MindSpore AI framework is adaptable to all scenarios -- across all devices, edge, and Cloud environments -- and provides on-demand cooperation between them. Its "AI Algorithm As Code" design concept allows developers to develop advanced AI applications with ease and train their models more quickly.

In a typical neural network for natural language processing (NLP), MindSpore has 20 percent fewer lines of core code than leading frameworks on the market and it helps developers to raise their efficiency by at least 50 percent.

When introducing MindSpore, Xu emphasised Huawei's commitment to helping build a more robust and vibrant AI ecosystem and said: "MindSpore will go open source in the first quarter of 2020. We want to drive broader AI adoption and help developers do what they do best."

The one thing that makes my body freeze when I think about it is the view of an LG oled 4k monitor screen accompanied by two dell flat 1080p monitor screens both sitting on the opposite sides of the LG monitor on a desk.
Plus a dell flat screen monitor above the screens bolted to the wall, all connected to a HP or Lenovo desktop system unit with an 8th gen Core I7 processor attached to a Nvidia GeForce graphics.
All with constant access to uninterrupted internet and power supply.

How possible is that in Nigeria?
