okuneddie:
There are things we need to look into before we talk about Osun State and Aregbesola. I didn't say he is not to be blamed but there are some things we all fail to see.
To achieve his dream State he has to borrow. Other State do borrow so it now new even the so called advanced countries are in debt. The only mistake he made is not having a foresight. Nobody knew that the allocation each state receive from the Federal Government will drop the way it did and it made a damage to most states. We forgot that Aregbesola wanted to woo investors to the state that has the land and the best power supply in the whole whole of South West but without good road network. He embarked on road construction and ask anyone in Osun or that had being to the state, you will hardly find an untarred road in the State especially Osogbo and many neighboring states. He also embarked in the construction of Federal road in the state to also woo them there.
During his first term before the drop in the price if oil, all local Government Area in the state has government ambulance. I don't know where the accident can happen in the state it won't take them more than 10 minutes to get there. Primary school students do eat at the public schools and when I say them eat I mean good food with chicken, bread and tea and the likes. You can also confirm this. Secondary school students from SS1 to SS3 where given electronic tablet with text books on them. Schools dilapidated buildings were redeveloped and new schools were also built all over the state. He employ 30,000youths in his first month in office and he paid there salary with his security vote( if that is what its called) and that is why you don't see him with many escorts. There is improved water supply in the state e.t.c
Things were going on well in the state that the opposition parties didn't see anything to use in campaigning against him. The man even created what I will call part time work for secondary school students through calisthenics. But where did he get it wrong, through wrong foresight.
Before the problem started,Osun monthly allocation from the Federal Government is 3billion naira and since the money will land in the state account with the bank he borrowed the money from, they will deduct whatever amount they have both agreed on every month. Mind you there are states that their allocation is between 20 to 24billion naira every month. Then, he always pay workers before the end of the month, students still enjoy their meals and don't also forget that education is also free then in the state. He slashed all higher institutions in the state fee by half.
What the state receive now is around 1.8billion naira which is almost half. I'm nota member of any party and I don't support any party. What I support is the individual.
Fellow nairalanders, please dont let us abuse the governor or people of the state. What they are going through is just a matter of time and a lesson to everyone of us to always have a good foresight no matter how good we think we are. Don't let us look at the party because that is what they want from us, let's look at the individual. If the person didn't perform the first term, let's vote him out and vote in another person. They don't want our unity cos that will be a disadvantage to them, let them be scared of us that if they do well we will vote them out. I don't want to tell my kids what I have being hearing when I was still a kid which is Nigeria go better. I want us to sing a new song and we won't be able to do that if the politicians don't fear us.
Let them know we don't look at the party cos they are all the same. We look at the individual and there is no second term but they will be voted out.

Please mind my grammar cos I annoyed while typing this write up and I also hope it make FP so that all will read and put our differences aside. Thanks and God bless.

PoliticsRe: Osun At Retreat: Plans To Sustain Development Programmes by tiptopy03(m): 3:29am On Feb 06, 2016
Are they talking about another Osun or the one I reside in?
G1gbolahan:
The state of Osun has said it has resolved to come up with new strategies that would help it navigate through the financial challenges while sustaining all its development programs.

According to a communique issued at the end of a three day retreat held in Iloko Ijesa, in Oriade Local Government Area of the state, the government was compelled to review its programs with a view to executing its various development programs within the context of the ongoing economic crisis in the country.

In the communique signed by the Chief-of-Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, participants at the retreat identified the need to reduce the cost of governance, increase internally generated revenues and drive investments to the state as vital to the continued growth of the state.

The document noted that the state is on the verge of ‎unveiling what it called, “a competent and capable cabinet” which is expected to be identified and inaugurated soon.

It said the in-coming executive council of the state would be expected to work in conjunction with dedicated civil servants of the state for implementation of these plans.

The communique said participants at the retreat recognized the urgent need to put in place clear action plans that would put the state on a good footing among its peers in the country despite the biting economic hardship.

Highlighting the current global economic hardship, the communique added that Osun is not alone in the economic difficulties just as participants noted that the dwindling economic fortune will affect all tiers of government, including their business partners.

“Osun has been at the forefront of innovation in governance and it is one of the few states in the country with commendable development statistics.

“The state has made massive investments in physical and human infrastructure in the last five years. In 2013, Osun had the lowest unemployment rate in the country and the second lowest poverty rate.

“Osun’s Youth Empowerment Model and School Feeding Scheme influenced the World Bank’s YESSO programme and the All Progressives Congress (APC) National School Feeding goal respectively,” the communique pointed out.

It further noted that the commitment of the Rauf Aregbesola administration to delivering on its development initiatives to the people of the state, stating that Osun will institutionalise performance-driven governance‎.

“The role of humans in economic development must not be overlooked, so it is important to leverage on the human resources of the state to generate ideas, establish enterprises and create much-needed goods and services.

“If we can get 40% of the population to be productive and generate surplus value, we will generate enough revenue to be comfortable. The aim of the Repositioning Osun for Prosperity (ROPE) initiative is to achieve increased IGR by employing creative means to widen taxpayers’ base and supporting enforcement action,” it added.

It said that the repositioning of the state will reduce the cost of governance by strengthening the state’s public financial management system and ensure compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards.

The document said that the new era that Osun is entering will increase investments in the state by attracting investors for short to medium term investments in agriculture, tourism, solid minerals, and strengthening the Public Private Partnership framework.
