NSCDC uncovers illegal juice factory in Lagos The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, today September 21, uncovered an alleged “illegal” juice production facility in Badagry, arresting two women in connection with the illegal facility.
While speaking to newsmen after uncovering the illegal facility, the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the names of the two suspects were being withheld while investigations continue. He said the factory allegedly supplied the illegal packs of juice, to markets across Lagos, with already-packaged products found at the facility, some reportedly loaded into container vehicles for distribution.
Abolurin also alleged that juveniles between the ages of 15 and 16 were involved in activities at the facility. Items reportedly recovered included sugar, water, adhesives, dyes and colourants, which the Corps said were used in the production process.
When interrogated, one of the suspects claimed the factory was established by her grandmother and had operated for nearly 20 years before shutting down due to challenges. She said the business was working towards renewing its registration with NAFDAC and only produced about three or four times a year based on customer orders.

Kira (Kirat) Taiwo, daughter of late veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has reportedly welcomed a baby boy, just two days after her father’s burial.
The development has brought a moment of joy to the Hassan family, following the death and burial of the celebrated Yoruba actor.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer.
His remains were buried according to Islamic rites on Monday, August 24, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, where Janazah prayers were also held.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has announced plans to revoke the non-immigrant visas of foreigners who have applied for or are currently seeking asylum in the United States.
The move is the latest in a sweeping immigration crackdown by the Trump administration, which has targeted both undocumented and legal immigration.
A State Department spokesperson said on Monday that the department was coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security “to identify and revoke the non-immigrant visas of foreigners who have come to the United States claiming to be short-term visitors, but then file for asylum to stay here permanently”.
The department did not disclose how many visas would be revoked under the planned policy, however, the Associated Press reported that as many as 200,000 business and tourism visa holders could be affected, citing State Department documents and two US officials.
If implemented at that scale, the move would represent the largest single mass revocation of US visas in history.
According to the AP, the State Department plans to revoke B1 and B2 visas issued between 2016 and 2026 to holders who have sought or are currently seeking asylum.
B1 and B2 visas are non-immigrant visas issued primarily for business and tourism travel.
The planned revocations would not automatically result in immediate deportation. The AP reported that most people with pending asylum cases would be re-categorised but would lose their status as business or tourism visitors.
Also on Monday, August 24, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau alleged on X that the American immigration system “has long been swamped by frivolous asylum claims”.
The State Department said earlier this month that the Trump administration had revoked more than 175,000 visas belonging to foreign nationals.

Jorge Messi, father and longtime representative of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68.
According to Spanish newspaper MARCA, citing Argentine outlet Infobae, Jorge died at about 10pm on Friday at a medical facility in Rosario, Argentina, following a prolonged illness.
Jorge was married to Celia Cuccittini, and the couple had four children — Lionel, Rodrigo, Matias and Maria Sol.
Beyond being the father of one of football’s most celebrated players, Jorge played a significant role in shaping and managing Lionel Messi’s career from his early childhood.

STATEHOUSE STATEMENT PRESIDENT TINUBU DIRECTS EFCC TO VACATE THE COURT ORDER FREEZING OSUN GOVERNMENT ACCOUNT It has come to my notice that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) obtained a court order on August 5, 2026, freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government. I must state that I feel deeply embarrassed not by the EFCC's exercise of its mandate backed by a court order, but by the timing of the agency's action. This is so because every action taken by an institution of State, especially at the Federal level, is always credited to me, as the President, even when I may not have had any prior knowledge of the action. Since assuming office, I have consistently maintained that anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies must be allowed to discharge their statutory responsibilities independently, professionally, without fear or favour, or political interference. I have therefore deliberately refrained from directing or interfering in the operational activities of the EFCC or any other investigative or prosecutorial agency because I firmly believe that strong democratic institutions, operating within the confines of the law, are indispensable to democratic good governance and the rule of law. As President, I am committed to allowing institutions of State to function and take any action they consider necessary in the interest of proper governance without the need for any prior approval. Indeed, that is why institutions are set up by law with clearly defined powers. While I am yet to be fully apprised of the facts which informed the action of EFCC in approaching the court to obtain the said order freezing the Osun State Government account, I am not in the slightest doubt that the timing of the action of EFCC is inauspicious, and therefore I feel compelled to intervene. Osun State is only a few days away from its gubernatorial election. Therefore, nothing ought to be done to give an impression that the EFCC or indeed any other agency of the federal government is being used to interfere with the election. Based on the foregoing premise, I am duty-bound to issue a directive on this issue in consonance with the overriding public interest in preserving public confidence and the integrity, credibility, and fairness of our democratic process. Accordingly, I have directed the EFCC to immediately proceed to the court to vacate the order and discontinue whatever action it has instituted against the Osun State Government in this regard. Nigerian Army Arrests Two Soldiers Who Acted As Bouncers At TikToker Peller’s Wedding In Lagos
The Nigerian Army has arrested two serving soldiers over their alleged involvement in an unauthorised deployment during the lavish wedding ceremony of Nigerian content creator Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, and fellow TikTok personality Jarvis, SaharaReporters has learnt.
Military sources told SaharaReporters on Tuesday evening that the arrests followed intelligence indicating that the soldiers participated in an illegal deployment at the celebrity wedding held in Lekki, Lagos State, over the weekend.
According to a top military source, the soldiers were apprehended on Tuesday morning as investigations commenced into the incident.
The source identified the arrested personnel as 23NA/85/10007 Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa of the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH) and 23NA/85/7885 Private Ukpai Onyinyechi, also attached to the 81DMSH in Obalende, Lagos.
"Following credible intelligence on the involvement of Nigerian Army personnel in illegal deployment during popular social influencer's wedding known as Peller at Lekki, Lagos, the Group arrested 23NA/85/10007 PTE Onasanya Ifeoluwa of 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH) and 23NA/85/7885 PTE Ukpai Onyinyechi of 81DMSH at Obalende this morning.
"Preliminary investigation is ongoing to establish the extent of their involvement and identify other personnel connected with the incident. Further details will be forwarded as the investigation unfolds," the source said.
The arrests come after videos from the high-profile wedding circulated widely on social media, showing uniformed military personnel providing security around some of the celebrity guests.
One of the videos, which drew significant public attention, allegedly showed a Nigerian soldier acting as a bouncer for TikTok personality Ivanna while escorting her through the crowded venue.
The footage triggered widespread criticism online, with many Nigerians questioning why military personnel were allegedly deployed to a private social event involving influencers and celebrities.
Peller and Jarvis' wedding, held in Lekki over the weekend, attracted several prominent entertainers, social media influencers and content creators. Videos from the ceremony dominated social media platforms, with large crowds of fans and guests in attendance.
The event became one of the most talked-about celebrity occasions of the weekend, but controversy soon followed after clips surfaced showing men in military uniforms managing access to parts of the venue and escorting some attendees.

S’Africa’s Tyla drops Lagos from world tour after boycott calls
South African Grammy-winning singer, Tyla, has removed Lagos from the schedule of her APOP World Tour, days after her planned December 22 concert in Nigeria triggered calls for a boycott over renewed xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.
A check by PUNCH Online on Tyla’s official tour website on Friday showed that the Lagos stop, which was previously listed for December 22, had been removed from the itinerary.
The updated schedule retains all previously announced dates across Europe, North America and South Africa, but no longer includes Nigeria.
PUNCH Online had reported on Monday that Tyla unveiled the APOP World Tour, with Lagos listed as the only Nigerian stop before the tour concluded with performances in Cape Town on January 4 and Johannesburg on January 9.
The announcement sparked heated reactions on social media, with some Nigerians urging a boycott of the concert in protest against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Some social media users argued that no South African artiste should perform in Nigeria while reports of attacks on Nigerians continued, while others maintained that musicians should not be held responsible for political or social issues.
The controversy deepened on Thursday after activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, threatened to mobilise members of his “Ratel Movement” to stop the concert if it went ahead.
In a post on his Facebook page, Otse wrote, “TYLA SHOW WILL NOT BE HAPPENING IN NIGERIA.
“This is a message to SOUTH AFRICANS. WE ARE AFRICANS AND WE DONT UNALIVE OUR OWN, since you people have taken it upon yourselves to unalive other Africans because according to you guys other African nationalities living in South Africa are taking your jobs.

Earlier, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, opposed the boycott campaign, saying Nigerians should not blame Tyla for xenophobic attacks.
“Nigerians should direct their anger at their real enemies… No one should hold a talented musician like @Tyllaaaaaaa vicariously liable for the crimes of xenophobia,” Sowore wrote on X, adding that “Tyla’s Lagos concert must go on.”
The removal of Lagos from the tour schedule comes amid renewed concerns over the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa following reports of alleged xenophobic attacks and the death of Nigerian nationals, including one Chika Ibe in Cape Town.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Tyla nor her management had publicly explained why the Lagos concert was removed from the tour schedule.

This legislative update, which currently awaits the president’s signature to become law, also introduces a ₦50,000 fine, a six-month jail term, or both, for drivers who refuse to undergo roadside breathalyzer tests when requested by road safety officers on reasonable suspicion.
According to the details of the modified bill, fines for numerous traffic violations have been raised by up to 300 percent. This upward review is part of a broader legislative push to discourage reckless driving, ensure stricter adherence to traffic laws, and minimize road accidents.
The piece of legislation, formally known as the Federal Road Safety Corps Act (Amendment), 2026 (HBs. 1401 & 1604 – For Concurrence), was presented for its first reading in the Senate on July 1, 2026.
With the introduction of these new clauses, anyone caught hawking goods or preaching inside public transport vehicles will be prosecuted and faces a ₦50,000 fine upon conviction. Members of the upper legislative chamber noted that this measure is designed to eliminate dangerous distractions inside commercial buses and safeguard passengers.
During the debate on the proposed amendments, lawmakers maintained that harsher penalties have become vital to curbing persistent lawlessness and dangerous habits on public roads.
Furthermore, the bill raises the penalty for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or narcotics from the previous ₦5,000 to ₦100,000. Violators also risk a prison sentence of up to two years, or both.
