In compliance with the constitution of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, President of the guild, Mr. Emeka Ejezie Rollas has set up a 10-man committee to review its constitution.

In his opening remark on Wednesday, May 8 2019 at the Pelican hotel, Lekki, Lagos, Rollas said: “This is a dream come true. The Actors Guild of Nigeria constitution is supposed to be reviewed every five years and it so happened that this administration fell into the year that the constitution is to be reviewed. Apart from the fact that we saw defects in the document we already have, the time and season also happened to be now.

The essence of this exercise is to officially inform our guild that this is a new dawn. We want to go down to the foundation of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), repair what we can and redirect the guild moving forward. We thank God that this guild has been sustained till now, it is no longer about the old ways, its adding new trends. All of us know that some 20 years back, a lot of profession in vogue like type-writing; you are told that you need it but today, these people who depended on typewriting and shorthand are no longer feeding, new trends are in place. We need to move with the trends.

We also know that the film industry many years ago revolved around VHS tapes but technology changed all of that and if we as actors cannot change with the change, we will remain stagnant. We will remain here, people will come with different style, rip us off and go their way and you won’t blame them because it is what they met that they used. They came and saw that this place is exploitable, they took advantage of it. I’m so happy that we have members of this guild who would want to work for the guild without being paid. I thank you all for honouring us.”
Chairman of the national constitution review committee, Dr. Ken Okonkwo has this to say: “It is a privilege to be appointed chairman of this committee. A footballer of those days was grateful to God. He said this is something he would have paid to be allowed to do because he has the passion and love to do it but now he is doing it and he is being paid for it.

People like us no matter what we become tomorrow; we will always be defined by Nollywood because that is our primary constituency. We will do all we can to make sure that the foundation of AGN is now rebuilt on a firm ground. With a good foundation, a good man can build a skyscraper and it will stand but with a bad foundation, no matter how good you are, you cannot build on it. I believe that a new era has come for Nollywood. We are trying to build a legacy for the next generation. Life is a stage, from the experience AGN has had in the recent past which was traumatic and I want to believe it is over.

I believe God allowed it so that we would wish not to ever go back to that kind of era and it is only the constitution that can protect us from that shock that nearly destroyed this guild. We are at the verge of the birth of a new AGN. We will make this document so tight that no one person would be in a position to do something without the agreement of some other people. The whole idea of the constitution is for checks and balance. The whole idea of democracy is to checkmate dictatorship. No man is wise enough to be entrusted with absolute power because in all ages absolute power corrupts absolutely. It is natural.”

Adding his voice deputy chairman, Board of Trustee (BoT) Actors Guild of Nigeria, Mr. Emmanuel Oguguo encouraged members of the committee not to be distracted by any kind of rumour but that they should try their best in bringing out a comprehensive constitution that would be beneficial to all.

Former national president, Segun Arinze who acknowledged that the task before the committee is arduous however charged them to make the constitution attractive to the up and coming ones in terms of welfare and protection of their rights and talents.
The committee which was inaugurated had the following as members – Dr. Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo (chairman), Edith Irabo Shola, Ajisafe Ayokunle, Honourable Desmond Elliot, Ifeanyi Agility Onwurah, Bob Manuel -Udokwu, Barr. Ikechukwu Ezenagu, Hajia Salma Ibrahim, Ronnie Dikko and Keppy Ekpenyong Bassey.

The tireless general, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin has done it again. This time he transformed the lives of two former prostitutes spiritually and financially.

The General Overseer and founder, Mercy Television, Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry (C.M.D.M), Warri, Delta state along with partners of the ministry gave N4,300,000 million naira (N2,150,000 each) to Miss Edith Onoifo and Miss Joy Afowotake who were into prostitution to set up any business of their choice.

The man of God located the former prostitutes through prophecy. Miss Edith Onoifo from Edo state was deceived to Moscow, Russia for a lucrative job unknown to her, was prostitution. She started following the man of God through YouTube and she became a partner. With divine intervention, she escapes to Nigeria and God located her through prophecy at the mountain of grace and favour.

Miss Joy Afowotake from Warri, Delta state was disvirgined by a herbalist who hypnotized her and was making love to her at will. After some years she left him and met another herbalist who continues making love to her too. That was how she veered into prostitution. The power of God through Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin located her and her life changed.

They former prostitutes accepted Jesus as Lord and personal saviour, advises other prostitutes to desists from the trade and turn to God for He’s the only true God that will save them as prostitution is not the answer to poverty.

The mountain of Solution and Grace in Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, Warri, Delta state was electrified by the presence of three powerful men of God as the outpouring of miracles, healing and deliverance was tripled.

Lucy Natasha from Nairobi, Kenya and brother, Prophet Ed Citronnelli from New York, United State of America in “Three in one God” programme has sent every illness, poverty, barrenness, life issues etc into triple trouble as unbelievable blessings, financial alert, miracle babies, healing are been recorded.

One of the most dynamic and influential young preacher, Rev. Lucy Natasha, founder and General Overseer of Prophetic Latter Glory Ministries International joined her spiritual father, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin for the prophetic programmed that has sent forth financial helpers, spiritual breakthrough, miraculous healing, signs and wonders to thousands of believers.
Prophet Ed Citronnelli, General Overseer, Ed Citronnelli Ministries is a deliverance prophet whom have prophesied to Pastor Benny Hinn, a white man with the spirit of an African was excited to be part of the “Three in one God” triple impartation programme. The humble prophet of God expressed his joy as he meets the tireless general he calls brother, cousin, father, mentor and ‘one of the best to have emerged from the continent of Africa in recent years’.

The power packed programme which started on 27th March is one of the most talked about as thousands of worshipers from around the globe stormed mercy city. The event will climax on Sunday with the dedication of Owomowomo’s son.

Disgruntled by controversy surrounding activities with regards to raising funds for a kidney transplant for popular actor, Mr. Leo Mezie, President, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Mr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas has appealed to the public to desist from sending monies to accounts that are not in Mezie’s name so that he can have access to the funds.

‘We are saying that anybody who wants to assist him should pay directly into his account not the AGN foundation account. We will be bringing some skits to educate the public on how to go about that. Any other account anywhere should be disregarded. If you want to assist Leo, there is no contractual agreement with any NGO or group that is masquerading under the name of trying to help Leo Mezie. If Leo Mezie will live, he will live directly from his account. He doesn’t have to go to be spoon fed in lieu of this. We want to set the record straight that we want to clear the internet space’.

Rollas made the appeal at a media parley yesterday in Surulere, Lagos said that ‘the AGN foundation is set up for ailing actors and not meant to be raising funds on individual basis. Also, another actor, Mr. Jimmy Makinde who is down with stroke would be receiving support from the AGN foundation as well’.
Rollas said ‘AGN or Nollywiood are not the only people living in this country. Other people have cases and they sought themselves out without rushing to the internet to do all of this. And we do not want to wash our dirty linens outside.”
He also added that they have obtained necessary documentations that would enable the foundation seek for assistance for Mezie.
He said: “Recently, all over the internet, we have heard different stories concerning one of our own, Mr. Leo Mezie - about a fund raising campaign to get him a kidney transplant done outside Nigeria. Upon the information as it got to me, I quickly called the chairman of the fundraising Mr. Segun Arinze and chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Mojisola Oyetayo and took a decision to visit Mezie to ascertain the true picture of things. On Monday, Oyetayo and I went to Idimu at his brother’s place and met him. After listening to his story, we got convinced that Mezie needs urgent attention to enable him live. Early this morning, we went to the hospital to conduct necessary test and obtained necessary documentations that would enable the foundation seek for assistance for him. We are looking to raise the sum of N20m for his case.

Our concern is that in the last four years, the internet has been bombarded with actors sourcing for funds for one illness or the other. We all remember the case of Prince James Uche and the controversy that is always following such drives for funds. That is why last year; we decided to set up the AGN foundation. The foundation is a corporate entity. Before we talk of raising funds at this level, we will ascertain certain form of authenticity of the ailment. But the foundation has not started running. We only set up a committee, did a presentation to the media. We have not officially launched the foundation. We are looking at the month of May to do that.

Recently, because we got some money we were able to give out little assistance. We call it temporal relief to some members who had fallen sick and were unable to take care of themselves. We decided since the foundation was not up and running, we distributed little money to some of them while we prepare for the programme of the foundation which includes a charity show, among other activities. People are misunderstanding the essence of the foundation. We have looked at this Leo Mezie’s case and it is something we have to tackle immediately.

Former president of the guild and chairman of the AGN foundation, Segun Arinze said: “I honestly do not know why each time we try to do something positive, it is bedeviled with controversies which are not healthy for the industry. I remember last year I was called upon by the president who has this idea of setting up the AGN foundation and haven discussed at length the concept, I liked it. He suggested I should be the chairman of the fund raiser. The foundation in itself hasn’t really taken off. But unfortunately some people misread the concept of what we are doing. Like we said, AGN would not go cap in hand begging for anyone who is sick, it’s the foundation and this is what obtains all over the world, even in Hollywood, Bollywood.

I don’t have anything against anybody wanting to raise funds for Mr. Leo Mezie. First and foremost Mezie is a Nigerian and he is an actor. What I do not want is do not rob mud on a corporate entity just because you want to score some cheap points. I don’t intend to mention names but I just want to say clearly, if you want to raise funds for him, feel free to do so on your own but we as AGN, we have said through our foundation that if you also want to send money to Leo, his account is there, send directly to him. We on our own part will do the best. I appeal to the AGN to stop all these controversies. Do not drag AGN into this’ he concludes.

Further giving credence to the points made by Rollas and Arinze, chairman, Lagos state chapter, AGN Mojisola Oyetayo said: “We have had strategic meeting with Leo personally and everything we intend to do for him we have done and send directly to his account. We beg the public to desist from sending monies to strange accounts that are not in Leo’s name so that he can have access to these funds. As a matter of fact after the process of the transplant, he will still have to go for a lot of post treatment which if he misses one tablet is just as good as packing up again. So he needs more money than after the transplant. He really is down and you can help us to save him.”
For Tony Mezie, Leo’s younger brother, the situation is true. “I want to appreciate AGN for all their efforts. We as a family are trying to come out of this in one piece and hopefully our brother will be fine.

For your kind donations, here is his account details; Leo Onyemechi Mezie, 0125346916 Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).
While informing that the account details of Mr. Makinde would be made available for direct donation, Rollas appealed to actors to update their membership with the guild.

The media parley was attended by the former president of the guild and chairman of the AGN foundation, Segun Arinze; Chairman, Lagos state chapter, AGN Mojisola Oyetayo; Vice chairman, Lagos state chapter, AGN, Chris Iheuwa; National Public Relations Officer, Frank Dallas; Ifeoma Okeke, Chuks Egbu, Tony Mezie (Leo Mezie’s younger brother) among others.

“Hollywood is great today because US Government supported and funded the industry: Same can be possible for Nollywood" - Saraki

By Theresa Moses

President of the Senate, Dr Abubakar ‘Bukola Saraki, has said that government’s support for the Nigerian movie industry, otherwise known as Nollywood, will help grow the economy and as well make the industry great.

The Senate president, who stated this in Lagos when the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), led by its president Mr Emeka Rollas Ejezie, paid him a courtesy visit, posited:

“The economy will not grow by chance. But, it's my belief that if duly supported, Nollywood will not only be number one in the world but will create job opportunities, increase the country's GDP and reduce poverty, among several other advantages. Hollywood is great today because the American government supported and funded the industry. Same can be possible for Nollywood."

The AGN president appealed to the National Assembly to support the industry by providing legislative solutions that will lift the entertainment industry.

"An industry as big as Nollywood has no structure, no film studios, etc. Let the government put in place the necessary legislative instruments in conjunction with practitioners, so that every other aspect will fall in place.”

Given that AGN is one of seven professional guilds that form the Nollywood, “which has raked in about $7.2 billion: contributing more than 1.4 per cent to the country's GDP.” The AGN president regretted that most veterans who have laboured and employed their skills towards the development of the industry do not have anything to fall back on after decades of service.

“With the talent and number of registered members - about 2 million presently in the 36 states of the federation, including the FCT - the era of begging money for ailing members because of huge medical bills should be a thing of the past. As a result, the AGN has set up afoundation with the sole mandate of raising a N500 million Endowment Fund for actors and, also, as a medium to give back to the fans by engaging in community development projects,” he said.

Senator Saraki supported the AGN foundation with N5 million, even as he called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the foundation, so as to achieve its objectives, including but not limited to taking care of the health needs of veterans and celebrities, more especially at old age; engage in community development which will enable it reaches out to the downtrodden in the society, as part of AGN’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The chairman of the fund raiser for AGN Foundation, Mr Segun Arinze, greatly appreciated the kind gesture of Senate President Bukola Saraki. He pledged that the foundation will serve as a platform to unite actors in Nigeria and bring them together for a common good, especially during community development projects. Other BoT members, the national executive council, chairmen of the state chapters and members of the AGN, among other dignitaries, were present at the occasion.
