Earlier this year, Microsoft released Office 2016 suite for Mac, but to only users with an Office 365 subscription. Yesterday the company finally made the suite available globally, making it the first major update the suite has received since Office 2013 Office 2016 brings a host of new features including much requested real-time collaboration that has long been available on the web version of Office 2013 and Google Docs, co-authoring support on Word, Skype for Business integration and more. Excel, trying to allow you make the most of your data now allows publishing to Power BI and new modern chart-types. Office 365 Group, now part of Outlook 2016 and an Outlook app on iOS, Android and Windows Phone allows users easily create public or private teams, including shared inbox, calendar along with cloud storage, making collaboration quite easy. Skype for Business, previous called Lync now been integrated with Office comes in handy as it allows users co-authoring a document, chat with each other, share screens and set up meetings right on Office apps. Additionally, Office 2016 has brought some enterprise data protection-focused features like the Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tool created to “significantly reduce the risk of leaking sensitive data by giving IT admins tools to centrally create, manage and enforce policies for content authoring and document sharing”. Obviously a convenient tool. Later this year, Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) which allows more secure corporate content sharing across corporate managed apps and network/cloud locations, preventing inadvertent content sharing outside corporate boundaries will be enabled by default in Windows 10, with support in Office Mobile. Microsoft has noted that Office 365 Business subscribers should at the end of this month expect an update to its OneDrive for Business sync client, promising enhanced reliability and selective sync on Mac and Windows. Ensuing this release, the company will be increasing the cadence of Office updates on Windows to feel much more like the cadence on the Office mobile and web apps, with new features release every month. That means new features and updates arriving quite a bit earlier. http://techloy.com/2015/09/23/microsoft-office-2016-is-now-available-worldwide/

A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned further proceedings till November 23, 2015, in an alleged copyright infringement suit filed by a popular Nigerian musician, Paul I.K. Dairo, against a telecommunications company, Etisalat. The multiple award-winning artiste is seeking an order of the court compelling Etisalat and others to pay him N200m for allegedly making use of his 2009 hit track, “Mosorire” without his authorisation. Paul Play claimed that Etisalat used “Mosorire” in its popular television reality show, tagged, “Nigerian Idol” for two consecutive years without paying him. Joined with Etisalat in the suit marked FHC/CS/581/2014 is Optima Media Group, which is the organiser of Nigerian Idol. Optima Media Group has however filed an application urging the court to join the Copyright Society of Nigeria as a defendant in the suit. Optima Media Group, which is the organiser of Nigerian Idol, sponsored by Etisalat, claimed to have obtained the licence to use the Paul Play’s track from COSON. Justice Aneke on Wednesday adjourned till November 23, 2015 to hear the application seeking to join COSON. Paul Play, in the affidavit filed in support of his suit and deposed to by himself, averred that, “I am the copyright owner of the work named and tagged “Mosorire”, contained in my repertoire, exclusively for the jurisdiction of Nigeria and the authority or permission to exploit such work can only be obtained from me. “However, the defendants being an organiser of a television reality show tagged, “Nigerian Idol” caused the use, adaptation and deployment of my said work, titled “Mosorire” on the said show without my consent, and which was broadcast to several millions of television viewers throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the rest of Africa for 2012 and 2013 editions.” The artiste said the defendants particularly infringed on his copyright when they allowed one of the contestants on the show to reproduce and perform his song in the glare of the whole nation and beyond. Paul Play averred that as a singer and composer, he was entitled to an annual fee of N100m on the said track, to commensurate with his effort in putting the work together. He however averred that having made use of his work without obtaining permission from him, the defendants had caused him loss of income while “they have made gains and improved on their own brand image.” The artiste therefore sought a declaration of the court that the use of his song without authorisation constituted an infringement of his copyright, as guaranteed by the Copyright Act, Cap C28, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004 and sections 6 (6) (b) and 44 of the 1999 Constitution. http://www.punchng.com/news/copyright-court-adjourns-paul-plays-case-against-etisalat/ |

I don’t expect them to be objective on this platform about PMB’s administration. His first foreign trip was about security of the trouble region of the country. He was invited to G7 meeting immediately he was declared winner of the presidential election. His presence among the world leaders did a lot to improve the image of our county . His next trip is about AU. If he refused to attend AU meeting for instance, the Jonathanians will be falling over one another to criticise him. National Examination Council has concluded plans to introduce Computer-Based Test in objective papers of its subsequent examinations. The Chairman, NECO Governing Board, Dr. Paddy Njoku, made this known in Abuja on Thursday during the board’s monitoring visit to the Model Secondary School, Maitama, centre of NECO Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. He said he was impressed with the progress of the examination, as pupils and teachers conducted themselves well. Njoku said the visit was informed by the fact the day’s paper — Mathematics — was compulsory for all the pupils. “We will introduce CBT in papers that need computer in the next exams, but some other subjects are either practical or essay; so you cannot put everything under CBT. Mathematics is compulsory, so the hall will be full; that is why we decided to inspect them today. “We do about four levels of monitoring: we have invigilators, supervisors, security men and external monitors drawn from institutions of higher learning, who independently monitor the centres without getting involved in the administration of the examination. “The board comes out to monitor and get direct assessment of the situation so that nobody tells stories and all these we do to ensure very strict control of our examination.” Njoku also noted that reports from all over the country indicated that the examination was going on fine. He said the performance of pupils in the examination had improved over the last two years, based on those who made five credits, including Mathematics and English. According to him, the performance will continue to improve “since the rot created over the years will take some time to fix.” He, however, blamed dwindling student performance on the quality of teachers, adding that efforts were being made to address the problem. On his part, NECO Registrar, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, said that in 2016, all objective examinations of the body would be CBT. “In the schools visited so far, we have not seen anything that can cause disturbance; it has been complete compliance with the rules of the examination. All centres in Nigeria have been adequately secured in special areas like Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. Extra security measures have also been taken.” Garba said that 975, 991 students are currently taking the examination nationwide. According to him, the results will be released 60 days from the date of the last paper, which comes up on July 10. Source: www.punchng.com/education/neco-to-introduce-cbt-in-subsequent-exams/ |
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum are expected to meet in Abuja next week. It will be their first meeting since the end of the elections and members are expected to confirm Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State as the new Chairman of the Forum. Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday, the Coordinator of the Forum, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, said there had been informal meetings where about nine of the governors zeroed in on Mimiko as the new chairman of the Forum. According to Onaiwu, an earlier meeting scheduled for this week was shelved as the governors were said to be engaged in the negotiations and horse-trading with regards to the elections of the new leadership of the National Assembly. Asked if other governors were not interested in leading the Forum, the PDP Governors’ Forum coordinator said the coming meeting will determine if there was such interest. He said, “Am aware that about nine of them have already thrown their support behind Mimiko to lead the forum, because they said they want very steady and organised hands now that the PDP is in opposition.” Former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, was the first and the only chairman of the Forum. The Forum was hurriedly formed during the crisis that rocked the Nigeria Governors Forum, when a former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, was elected the chairman. Following the emergence of Amaechi as the NGF chairman, aggrieved members of the Forum later formed their own faction of the Forum and elected a former Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Jang, as their chairman. http://www.punchng.com/news/mimiko-to-lead-pdp-govs-forum/ |

Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (24 August 1937 – 7 July 1998), often referred to as M. K. O. Abiola , was a popular Nigerian Yoruba businessman, publisher, politician and aristocrat of the Yoruba Egba clan. He ran for the presidency in 1993, and is widely regarded as the presumed winner of the inconclusive election since no official final results were announced. He died in 1998, after being denied victory when the entire election results were dubiously annulled by the preceding military president Ibrahim Babangida because of alleged evidence that they were corrupt and unfair. Since then, Nigerians has used this day to honour him and the southwestern states in reference to his memorial has always declared June 12 as a public holiday www.wikipedia.com/mkoabiola
