New York City’s Nigerian community celebrated 53 years of independence with a multi-block parade in New York City’s Midtown East neighborhood. The parade consisted of packed floats filled with Nigerians and friends dancing and waving the country’s green and white flag. Even a surprise impersonator, mimicking Pres. Goodluck Jonathan marched along the parade, leaving many parade participants and onlookers in awe.

A 30-year old first class graduate of Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Moses Murtala Aminu, has been shot dead by a policeman.
The victim had left his 67, Ahmadu Ahijo Street, Narayi-Highcost family residence last week Sunday full of life for a party at Barnawa , Kaduna, but could not return home as he was killed by a police constable.
His friend and eyewitness told P.M.NEWS this morning that the police constable identified as Alex Okpe was beating up his girlfriend outside the venue of the party and when Murtala tried to intervene, he got angry and pulled out his gun from his jeans trousers and fired straight into his heart.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to P.M.NEWS under anonymity, after Murtala was shot dead, the police constable then fired again in the air twice to scare the people around and escaped on his motorcycle.
Moses Andrew, a friend who was with Muri, as he was popularly called, at the Time Out Lounge party venue in Barnawa, narrated that there was pandemonium after Muri was shot and Okpe, the policeman, had escaped .
“We were confused while trying to revive Muri, when a guy informed us that he knows a friend to Okpe’s girlfriend that had left the party for a club called X-One at Barnawa,” Andrew said.
According to him, they quickly moved to X-One and fortunately met her there.
“We picked the lady who identified the policeman who killed Muri as Alex Okpe, and that he serves at Kakuri Police Station but deployed to guard Nigerian Brewries Plc.,”

According to Sahara Reporters, just barely 48 hours after a plane crash in Lagos that took the lives of many, a Saudi bound Kabo airplane carrying 400 passengers from Kano made an emergency landing at the Sir Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto early today Saturday October 5th. The Boeing 747 jumbo jet which left Kano on Friday en route to Saudi Arabia had to divert to Sokoto after several of its tyres exploded immediately after it took off the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano. Official Release of the Ondo State Government on the Associated Airline Plane Crash
The Ondo State Government received with shock the news of the crash of the plane bearing the corpse of the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Agagu, as it was taking off from Lagos.

A commissioner, family members, associates and other top government officials were also involved in the crash. Information available indicates that there were casualties and a few survivors of this unfortunate crash. We are however still expecting more information.
No doubt, this is an unfortunate disaster in the life of our dear State. We can only pray that God will visit the State with mercy and give us all the strength to bear these unfortunate losses. We ask all residents to be in a sober and prayerful mood at these trying times as God is indeed the only person we should call upon in this period.
Government assures that further and better information will be released as soon as they are available.

A few minutes ago, a private plane allegedly owned by Associated Airlines crashed at Aviation Estate, Mafoluku, Oshodi-Isolo way, Lagos.
According to reports, 20 people are feared dead. The body of the former Governor of Ondo State Olusegun Agagu who died in September after slumping in Lagos, was also allegedly on board. He is to buried tomorrow Friday 4th October 2013.
The scene is surrounded by officials and men from fire stations.
