A man wielding a knife was filmed attacking a woman with in broad daylight, at a busy roadside in Datong City, Shanxi province, northern China.

The video which has since gone viral shows the man brazenly trying to stab the woman several times with a large knife as she lay on the road fighting him off.

The man kept attempting to cut the woman as she screamed for help. Some passersby just stood by and kept watching including the disgusting person who filmed the video.

A brave man who spotted them from the other side of the road rushed over to her rescue and overpowered the frenzied street slasher from behind. Several male passersbys who were closer then joined to beat and tie him up.

He has reportedly been handed over to the local police.

Nairaland / General / The Education Kerfuffle In Oyo State, By Abimbola Adelakun by tobitheblogger: 12:20am On Jun 17, 2016
If there is hell in Oyo State today, it is perhaps because Governor Abiola Ajimobi drove on the road of good intentions. He says he wants to reform public education and to this end, introduced an initiative that conjoins private partnership with the state’s efforts. The idea, perhaps expectedly, is being contested by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, certain religious groups, and of course, secondary school students themselves who recently revolted against the idea of their schools being subjected to capitalists’ vagaries. The initiative – and any – that seeks to revamp education in Oyo State should not merely be resisted on murky ideological grounds but vigorously debated until parties can find a common ground.

In his recent interview with Splash FM, the governor spoke on the initiative. That conversation sparked mixed feelings in me. One, he seemed unwilling to empathise with those resisting the idea. The Nigerian economic situation is currently creating casualties and suggestion of further sacrifice on the part of the people will necessarily activate angst. Ajimobi should hold his internally generated rage and inquire the basis of public scepticism. Beneath that veneer of cynicism is their experience of bad faith; due to years of governmental deceit, people cannot simply trust the government anymore. Ajimobi cannot simply beat people on the heads with his lofty ideas. He needs to signpost his sincerity by addressing and redressing their distrust.

He should understand the disenchantment of the generation of citizens born after the locust years. They have never derived an iota of benefit from the government yet they are called to make sacrifices all the time. We can catalogue the registers of austerity the government has inundated us with over the years – from subsidy removal to belt tightening, sacrifice, trickle-down, and all that jazz, to attest to the non-benevolence of the Nigerian state.

Ajimobi says the state is no nanny, and Nigeria should not be a socialist country. Here, he misconstrues the architecture of relationship that has existed between the state and the people till now. What subsists as socialism in Nigeria is more or less the state’s dubious means of placating public restlessness. Those hand-me-downs are not engineered to generate productivity, but defer any revolutionary ideas that hunger pangs may trigger. Even more, it saves our leaders from the tedious task of thinking through our intricate problems.

Some questions that I waited for during the interview but never came were whether the state, with this initiative, was not merely dancing around the idea of returning schools to the original missionary owners. Why is he seeking partners to take over 10 per cent of the schools when the missionary owners alone can do just that? There are many areas of clarification that I expected the interviewers to sound him on. One was to elaborate on the initiative and clarify how it might work. I am interested in knowing how the state intends to partner businesspeople that will invest their money in the schools and then recoup their investment; how the schools will be valued monetarily; and how the state proposes to still regulate the schools with the new ownership.

Also, what becomes of the other 90 per cent that are not selected by partners? Will they receive inferior quality of education?

Another question I expected was whether the idea of free education was not outdated and should be phased out. After all, as things stand now, students are variously levied and it may be productive if the money collected from them are standardised and channelled towards improving the sector. Why, for instance, make them pay education levy yet insist education is free? Why should they supply their own furniture and other materials while “enjoying” free education?

Nairaland / General / Buhari Extends London Vacation, To Arrive Nigeria On Sunday by tobitheblogger: 11:47pm On Jun 16, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari will not return to Nigeria from London, where he is spending his 10-day medical vacation, until Sunday.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this to State House correspondents on Thursday shortly before the commencement of a meeting of the National Economic Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari’s 10-day vacation expired on Wednesday.

By the time he would be arriving in Nigeria on Sunday, he would have spent 14 days.

He was earlier scheduled to arrive the country on Thursday.

Osinbajo however said it was just appropriate for Buhari to take the weekend off and rest very well in London before returning to the country.

He said he had spoken to the President on the telephone and he was in good health condition.

The Vice-President said Buhari would resume in his office on Monday morning.

Osinbajo said, “The President will be back on Sunday. I spoke with him yesterday evening and I think it is just the best that he takes the weekend off. He will certainly be back on Sunday.

“I think the most straightforward thing is when he will be back. He will be back on Sunday. There is no point rushing back on Friday or something like that.

“He will just take the weekend off and be back on Sunday. He is in perfect health and ready to resume work on Monday morning.

“Mr. President is in good condition, he is fine, he is very well. He should take a day or two off in London and rest a bit and come back hale and hearty on Sunday and be ready for work on Monday. So we expect him back on Sunday.”

The President had so far embarked on vacation two times this year.

He had earlier embarked on a a six-day vacation between February 5 and 10.

Like the case of the second vacation, he remained in London throughout the first vacation.

Nairaland / General / Olajumoke Will Soon Go Back To Hawking by tobitheblogger: 8:44am On Jun 15, 2016
In what might strike some people as a curse, controversial Journalist and actitivist, Kemi Olunloyo has said bread seller-turned-model, Olajumoke Orisaguna, will soon go back to hawking bread.

Kemi who is the daughter of former governor of Oyo State, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, while reacting to reports about Olajumoke dumping her first modeling agency for its competitor, condemned the internet sensation saying she will soon go back to the streets.

RADAR.NG reported last week that Olajumoke dumped her Few Model Management for it's competition Beth Modelling Agency months after she was discovered by TY Bello. According to her lawyer, Olayemi Adesuyan, the decision was based on the incompetence of the model’s former agency. [click here to read].

Kemi via her Twitter handle blasted the 27-year-old mother of two, calling her poor and throwing shades at her family.

She wrote in a series of tweets:

"Olajumoke!!! Poor bread seller. She has no idea they have EXPLOITED her big time. Olajumoke may even go back to hawking someday. Her mom sells pomo and fish.

"Mr. Olajumoke!!! Husband is looking more and more like her driver by the day. So many VULTURES around her; money hungry EXPLOITATION bastards.
"TY Bello has not transformed Olajumoke’s life for good. Nothing in this life is permanent. Olajumoke the bread seller model has dumped her modeling agency, Few models inc.
"Her lawyer told the media last week that all the deals they claimed to get her were FAKE and described them as ‘incompetent.’ I predicted this in tweets 3 months ago. Keep watching."

Olajumoke is yet to react to the statements by the Journalist. She was however spotted last week at her former bakery handing out cash gifts to her former colleagues. She also announced she will be starting her foundation soon.

Travel / Uber To Start Letting People Schedule Rides by tobitheblogger: 8:29am On Jun 15, 2016
Uber has become synonymous with everything "on-demand," but the company is now making it possible to plan ahead.

Riders will be able to book trips anywhere from 30 minutes to 30 days in advance. The global rollout began Thursday in Seattle for people who have a business profile or account.

"Since the option to schedule a ride is a top-requested feature from business travelers, we're excited to give priority access to riders who have business profiles or are linked to their company's Uber for business account," Uber said in an announcement, adding that it will continue rolling the service out to "major business travel cities."

The service is only available for UberX at the moment and is priced like a normal ride. If prices are surging, you won't be notified until your car is on the way.

The company said riders could "take advantage of Uber's normal five-minute no-fee cancellation window after they get the notification that a ride is on the way."

The new feature is an about-face from Uber, which has said it would never allow pre-booking. Uber CEO Travis Kalanick famously said last year that the company had no plans to introduce the function.

"Do you schedule time with your shower?" Kalanick said.

The option to schedule rides may be beneficial for people who want to plan ahead, but it could also help Uber manage the deployment of drivers more efficiently.

Last month, Lyft announced that it would start testing a similar feature in San Francisco that lets riders schedule trips up to 24 hours in advance.

Politics / Ailing, Acting Presidents And Other Matters, By Olalekan Adetayo by tobitheblogger: 1:30pm On Jun 12, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari is currently on a 10-day medical vacation. This is the second time Buhari will be proceeding on vacation this year, having earlier embarked on a six-day vacation between February 5 and 10.

In the two instances, Buhari wrote to the National Assembly as required by law and asked that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo should perform the duties of the President. Simply put, Osinbajo was named the Acting President.

The truth of the matter is that Osinbajo is not new to the roles of the President. He may not sit on the President’s seat or occupy his office but he is used to carrying out presidential roles as delegated to him by the President. Lately, tongues have been wagging on the manner in which Buhari had been sending Osinbajo to places where he had hitherto been scheduled to be. One of such cases was when he shelved his scheduled two-day official visit to Lagos State at the last minute and sent Osinbajo to represent him. The Presidency had attributed the development to what it called “scheduling difficulties.”

Penultimate Thursday, Buhari again shelved his trip to Rivers State during which he would have inaugurated the clean-up of Ogoniland and other oil-impacted communities. He again sent Osinbajo to represent him at the event with the Presidency saying there was no big deal in the Vice-President representing Buhari at functions since it is one Presidency.

Last weekend, Buhari put off his scheduled trip to Dakar, Senegal for the 49th Ordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States, asking Osinbajo to again represent him. Despite fears about the President’s state of health, the Presidency had claimed that the President was “as fit as fiddle.”

But on Sunday, the Presidency came up with a statement that Buhari would be travelling to London to rest and would use the opportunity to see Ear, Nose and Throat specialists for a persistent ear infection. He was said to have been treated by his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja with both Nigerian doctors recommending further evaluation “purely as a precaution.”

This is of course an indication that all is not well with the President’s state of health. But the Presidency obviously is not comfortable with the use of “illness” or “sickness” when referring to this case.

But trust Buhari, he is never ready to deny the obvious. “Is there anybody that doesn’t fall sick?” was the question he posed to a journalist who asked him to react to the tension created by his state of health across the nation. That answer, to me, presupposed that the President is not under any illusion as far as his health is concerned.

Politics / 8th Senate: The Journey So Far, By Bukola Saraki by tobitheblogger: 12:55pm On Jun 11, 2016
One year ago today, the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was inaugurated. That inauguration marks a further consolidation of our democracy and opens a new chapter in the practice of government by representation in our country. Let me congratulate all my colleagues not only for the time we have spent in the legislature, but also for all that we have achieved together and all that we have planned to achieve for our peoples and our country as the highest legislative body in the land.

Every generation of senators will face its peculiar challenges. The task we set for ourselves and our understanding of our roles as senators must therefore, reflect a robust understanding of the challenges that we face as a law making body at this time in our history.

The successful democratic transition that ushered in a new administration last year has re-ignited the hope of our citizens that democratic government truly empowers the people and is therefore ultimately capable of delivering real benefits to them and give them better quality of life. One year after, this remains the most important aspiration of our people: to be better off than they were in the previous year. Invariably, this must remain the most important priority of government: How do we make our people better off than they were before we came into office? This question, placed in the context of unprecedented decline in government revenue, underlines the economy and security as the two biggest issues of our time.

This Senate understands this obvious challenge. And this is why the Legislative Agenda of the 8th Senate is anchored on three cardinal objectives of improving governance, improving business and, improving livelihood. We believe that legislative activities that sustainably improve on these three key indicators will improve the economy and ultimately guarantee a better life for our people.

The collapse in oil price has without doubt brought huge shock to our economy on a scale that perhaps, has never been experienced before. This requires us to develop creative strategies that would stimulate business and investments into other sectors. For decades, we have talked about the need to diversify our economy. But we have failed to take the necessary steps in policy and legislations that would set us on the path to developing the kind of economy that we desire. The Ease of Doing Business Report that ranks our country 167 out of 189 countries is not likely to attract business into our economy. This Senate understands this. With the support from our international development partners, the organised private sector, we commissioned an expert report which identified 54 extant laws that must be reviewed and brought in line with international best practices in order to open up our economy for private investments and business.

There is no gainsaying that an efficient transportation system is a critical component of economic development anywhere. For the first time since 1924, the Railway bill will open up the subsector and attract the required private capital into this segment of our transport system that has appeared stuck in the past. The influx of private sector players, states and local governments will not only stimulate rapid rural development, it will also create economic values by making transportation of goods more efficient, safer, and cheaper. The direct and indirect implication this will have for our economy, especially in the agricultural sub-sector, cannot be overemphasised. I am confident that this very important bill will also be passed soon.

The agriculture credit scheme bill and the Chartered Institute for Soil Science bill we have just passed into law are part of a critical segment of legislative interventions we have designed to boost the current policy on agriculture as a major plank of the diversification policy of government. In the coming months, we are determined to continue to focus our legislative energy at high impact legislation across the critical sectors of our economy.

I have gone to fairly great lengths to articulate some of the work we have done in the last one year. I have done this to underline the fact that it is only through these functions that our performance would be measured by Nigerians and our presence in the Senate chambers would be justified. By outlining these interventions, we are also able to appreciate the great work that still lies ahead of us. Like I have said earlier, the big challenge for our generation is that of creating a modern economy that is capable of delivering prosperity to all our citizens. We in the Senate will continue to find creative solutions to the old problems that have kept our country from realising its full potential. This is the work we have been elected to do.

However, it is important that as we move forward in this fight, considerable attention is paid to strengthening the anti-corruption agencies to enable them discharge their functions with greater efficiency and fairness. We want to assure President Buhari that the Senate will continue to play its part in the fight against corruption, which we believe is cardinal in our desire to improve governance in our country. We will also continue to broaden the scope for increased openness and accountability that we have promised at the legislative level.

While the government has made progress in the fight against Boko Haram and in the fight against corruption, the fight against mass poverty remains a daunting challenge. Rising cost of living, increased cases of retrenchment and corresponding rise in unemployment, inability of state governors to pay salaries, upsurge in ethnic-based agitation, potentially deny government the full credit of the great strides it has made in other areas. The same energy that has been invested in fighting corruption and Boko Haram must be invested in taking care of the people, in making life easier and better for them. We need to begin to assure Nigerians that the sacrifice that they make today will not be in vain. We need to begin to show them that there would be light at the end of the dark tunnel. So we must not relent in our efforts in this area over the next years ahead.

Once again, I want to thank you for the unalloyed support I have and continue to receive from my colleagues in the last one year. This has been unprecedented and I don’t take it lightly. This unique support has been steady, bipartisan, and unconditional. Their support has been the bulwark on which my belief in the emergence of a greater Nigeria rests. The support has meant everything to me and I am more than ever determined to play my role as a leader to see to the emergence of a more virile National Assembly playing its constitutional role without fear or favour. I congratulate all Senators for all that we have achieved in the last one year. I am confident that when the history of this era is written, all of us would be amply remembered as the generation that played its part and did its best to make Nigeria a better place.

- Saraki is President of the Senate and Chairman of National Assembly

Romance / 8 Signs Your Current Relationship Will Never Have A Future by tobitheblogger: 12:44pm On Jun 11, 2016

Are you confused about the direction of your relationship? Relationships are often happy at the beginning, but over time they can become negative without you realizing.

All relationships require effort and hard work, and without these things you may notice that you feel unhappy and under-appreciated.

Check out 8 telltale signs that your relationship may not last.

1. Your partner can't accept you for who you are

Everyone has positive and negative traits, and a good partner will accept all of your flaws. Your partner doesn't have to enjoy watching The Real Housewives with you, but they should accept that you enjoy it and leave you to it without judgment. If your partner doesn't like more important things like the way you dress or your career, it is time for you to leave. Being unable to accept one another for who you are is one of the biggest indicators that the relationship won't work out.

2. You can't accept your partner for who they are

Accepting each other works both ways. If your partner loves you for who you are then you should be able to offer the same to your partner. Ask yourself this; if there are things your partner does that you hate or cannot come to terms with, why are you with them?

3. You struggle to handle each other during the hard times

Relationships come with intimacy, happiness and laughter, but they also come with stress, bad moods and hardship. Of course you will love your partner when they are happy and relaxed, but do you feel the same way about them when they are irritated? In a relationship you should support each other during hard times, not push each other away.

4. Your needs are not being met by your partner

Your partner cannot do everything for you; for instance, it is demanding and clingy to insist they talk to you every hour of the day. However it is important that they can meet your needs in the relationship department. They should be able to cheer you up after a tough day, and they should be able to provide you with love and support. If they can't give you these things the relationship will deteriorate.

5. You are not at the same place mentally

If you are ready to get married and settle down and your partner wants to travel alone for a few years, you may start to encounter problems. If you realize your relationship is becoming serious, it is useful to sit down and talk about both of your plans for the future. It isn't anyone's fault if you have different interests, but you both deserve to know if you're not in the same boat.

6. You put work into the relationship but your partner does not

Relationships are what you put into them. Both partners need to give and take, and sometimes one partner may give more or take more. This can cause a problem as you should both be putting an equal amount of effort into the relationship. If one of you doesn't care enough to meet the other halfway, it could be a sign that the relationship has become unhealthy and negative.

7. You struggle to trust each other

Both you and your partner should trust each other implicitly. If your partner has given you a reason to distrust them, you can either forgive them and try toe and Facebook Messages forge a future or move on. The worst decision you can make is choosing to stay when you don't trust them. If you find yourself checking your partner's phone when they leave the room, breaking up and moving on may be the best option for both of you.

8. You don't see long-term potential

A relationship requires a lot of time and effort, so it is important to make sure you are putting in work for something that could actually last. You don't have to want to marry your partner, but you should be able to envision a happy future together. If you don't see a future together at all it may be time for you to move on.

Politics / Buhari Administration, Not So Different From Others, By Bolaji Tunji by tobitheblogger: 9:35am On Jun 11, 2016

I have tried as much as possible to be patient with the present President Muhammadu Buhari administration. The administration has equally urged Nigerians to be patient and give it time. And so like many Nigerians, I have held on, hopeful that the dividends of democracy would soon be ours.

To give this administration an opportunity to walk its talk as a government of change and for it to live up to its pre-election promises that it would do better than its predecessor.

Some of us were not totally convinced that there would be much difference, with the new administration, we only gave the benefit of the doubt because of the person of the president. One year on, nothing has happened to dispel this skepticism. It is becoming difficult not to speak out.

A few days ago the President travelled out of the country. A statement from the presidency said he would be gone for 10 days and in the course of his vacation, he would see doctors in the United Kingdom (UK) who would look into his persistent ear infection. According to the presidency, his personal physician and ENT specialists had checked the president and recommended further treatment in the UK. “Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution,” was how the presidency explained the justification for the medical consultation.

I do not have any problem with the president falling sick. He is human and any human can fall sick anytime coupled with the fact that he is not a young man. My major problem is in the fact that all our experts in the country could not cure the president of his ailment. Is this not an indictment on the state and practice of medicine in the country?

Early last month, Minister of Health Professor Isaac Adewole was in Akwa Ibom on an inspection tour of the Ibom specialist hospital built by former Governor Godswill Akpabio. He was full of praises at what he met on ground and said the federal government would partner with the state/hospital with the aim of ensuring that Nigerians do not go abroad for medical treatments again.

That was about a month ago. I wonder why the president did not avail himself of the facilities offered by the hospital or was the minister just saying his own thing, without actually believing it, the way most of our political office holders are wont to do? So why is it that the president did not use the hospital and send a strong signal to all Nigerians that the hospital is truly the way it has been described? Could the president’s non-use of the hospital be due to the fact that he does not have confidence in the personnel there? Or his ailment more serious than we have been made to believe and thus needs the secretiveness of an overseas doctors/medical facilities? If the president had gone to the Ibom Specialist hospital, wouldn’t there have been many advantages to the hospital. For one, it would have sent a strong signal to all Nigerians on the state of facilities and competence of medical personnel in the hospital. Not only that, we would have also been able to conserve our scarce foreign reserve. I recall that former Lagos state governor and current minister, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola had tried something similar a few years ago when he commissioned the medical facilities at the Lagos State University Teaching hospital (LASUTH). That year, he did not go abroad for his annual medicals, as we were made to believe, but went to LASUTH.

That act helped to bolster the confidence of Lagosians in the hospital. The state government also got a lot of mileage as it brought to the fore the effort made to bring the hospital to a level where it could compete with some private hospitals around. Now back to the president’s medical tourism, as expected, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA)protested the trip because it portrayed its members as lacking the required expertise to tackle the president’s health challenge. “ We have very competent ENT surgeons in the country.

But beyond issuing statements like the above, the NMA needs to go beyond that, for its own sake. It should strive to find out whether the president’s ailment is beyond its competence and Nigerians should be appraised of its findings. This is especially necessary because it is this same administration that banned medical trips outside the country except on cases that could not be handled in the country. The Minister of health had spoken in April, this year at the 56th Annual General Conference and Delegates meeting of the NMA in Sokoto where he had gone to represent the president to declare the conference opened, saying no funds would be provided for any government official to travel abroad for medical treatment except for cases that could not be treated in the country.

“While this administration will not deny anyone of his or her fundamental human rights, we will certainly not encourage expending Nigerian hard earned resources on any government official seeking medical care abroad, when such can be handled in Nigeria”. Has the president forgotten that statement made on his behalf by his minster so soon or is it that the ailment is beyond what could be treated in the country?

Come to think of it, about N3.87 billion was budgeted for the State House Medical Centre, Aso Rock and over N200billion for teaching hospitals across the country this year. I recall that this generated a lot of controversies especially the allocation to the state house clinic which was said to be above the total allocations to all government hospitals. Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the president had to explain that the increased spending on the Aso clinic and other hospitals was in line with the president’s plan to improve medical facilities at home as well as discourage medical tourism by Nigerians which impact negatively on the foreign reserve.

All the above go to show that all the administrations in this country, previous and present, have always paid lip service to the ideal. They say one thing, they do something else. The present administration is not different from the one before it. Inspite of the slogan of change. nothing has really changed. The government says one thing and does something else. And it is high time we start holding the government to their promises. The Buhari administration had said it would discourage medical tourism and it would not make funds available to any political office holder for medical treatment abroad. It has not lived up to its words unless we are being told that the president is spending his own personal money. Last time I checked, he was still a political office holder who got into office through the ballot box.

Nairaland / General / 10 Reasons Engineers Are Usually The Best Partners In Relationships by tobitheblogger: 9:28am On Jun 11, 2016
Ahh engineers. They are a breed of their own. Some of the smartest people out there, combined with a personality that can be confusing at first, if you are a free spirit, fly by the seat of your pants type like me. But once you understand them, you realize there are major pluses to having one as your partner.

1. They are extremely organized

It's no secret that engineers tend to be somewhat particular about where their things go. They like to have easy access, up-to-date technology, working solutions, and organization in their world. Perhaps their idea of organization is not the same as yours, but being with an engineer means respecting their ways, as intruding in their system can be disruptive to their balance and ability to be productive. And you will enjoy leading an organized life with your loved one.

2. They know how to handle high-pressure and stressful situations well

Engineers encounter a lot of high stress situations at work, and they know they can't lose their minds. This is actually a great thing for you if you are the partner of this logical type, because that means he or she won't join you on the emotional rollercoaster, and instead be a calming force in the relationship.

3. They absorb information quickly

Men and women in the engineering profession acquire acute attention to detail. Not only does this mean they will want that specific type of cheese and will go to the store late at night just to get it, it also means they will remember special dates, things you said, small details, and be extremely thoughtful when in a relationship. They won't necessarily show it in the lovey-dovey way – but they will remember to get you that one thing for your birthday you mentioned briefly months ago, and not even make a big fuss about it.

4. They make amazing teachers

Engineers have the ability to take a lot of information, and condense it into a few words. Working with a lot of data everyday, they have to categorize what's important and what's not, since prioritizing their efforts and energy is of the utmost importance when focusing on a project. This translates into their relationships as well. If you are lucky to be dating an engineer, or married to one like me, your household will not be one of many words, but the words will be very meaningful.

5. They have no problem committing to someone, or to something

Engineers are some of the most dedicated people, and they will work on one thing until it's perfect. Committing to such a demanding career shows that they are not short-sighted, and this can translate to how they view their personal relationships as well. They don't like to waste time with too many relationships, and would rather have more serious, quality partnerships. Quality over quantity can ring very true with this group.

6. They are actually very creative

The myth that engineers are math nerds could not be further from the truth. Engineers actually have to be very creative to come up with solutions for impossible problems on a daily basis. This sort of creativity requires a lot of brain power however, so many engineers blow off steam by doing something else creative, like playing an instrument, painting, or working on a "fun" project that tunes their ever-thinking brain out. Your home will never be a boring place.

7. They have the ability to think logically, think ahead, and make a plan

Being with an engineer means you always have a plan. Whether it's for the weekend, your next trip, your meals, your future, or your finances. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep up with their level of brain organization, but you can rest assured that you are ultimately safe, and do not have to worry about a thing.

8. They are not lazy

Engineers never really rest. Even on their days "off", they continue to engineer away in their mind. They may put off a project for a while to let the solution come to them, but they don't give up and rarely get discouraged. They know there will be a solution – they just have to find it. This makes them incredible partners because they are willing to put work into solving your relationship problems until there is resolution.

9. They have a lot of initiative, and re-engineer everyday problems to find better, more functional solutions

This does mean that you will find their "solutions" around the house. Solutions for leaky pipes, or solutions for the neighbor's cat who keeps leaving presents in your lawn. Nevertheless, they solve everyday problems themselves, without having to call a professional. You can trust that if your house is flooding and the roof is on fire, they will figure something out.

10. They have an impressive ability to admit mistakes and re-work their approach

Because their work can require a lot of trial and error, engineers learn to rethink their strategies constantly. This translates nicely into relationships, as it makes them more likely to examine a behavior that may not be producing very good results (and making you mad), and look for ways to change it to achieve better results.

If you are lucky to have found yourself one of these gems, celebrate their qualities, appreciate their talents, show that you see how hard they work, and most of all, enjoy the perks of having such a thoughtful partner!
