Ecstasy154: Leaders of the Tiv nation on Thursday accused the army of allegedly providing cover for armed herdsmen to take over the land naturally given to them by God.
They also expressed displeasure over the operation of a military exercise code-named “Cat Race” launched in the state by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to restore peace in Benue State communities following attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen.
President of the Mzough U Tiv (MUT), Chief Edward Ujege, in a statement issued to the media in Makurdi, expressed reservations over the emerging trends of the military operation which he said has made the people be apprehensive about the real mission of troops deployed to the state.
Chief Ujege disclosed that since the flag off of the exercise, the military has been circulating pamphlets through its Department of Civil-Military Affairs, Army Headquarters which “confirmed that the military had come to provide cover for armed Fulani herdsmen to take over the land of the people.”
The translation on the pamphlets, Chief Ujege emphasized, portrayed a purported dialogue between the Fulani herdsmen and Benue farmers on their alleged resolution to shift grounds one both farming and cattle grazing activities in the state.
Part of the translation of the pamphlets reads:
Tiv farmer: I’m your brother and a farmer; my farm produce is just as important as your cattle.
Fulani herder: I will no longer destroy your farm produce and longer kill your people. You are my brother, we should live in peace.
Tiv farmer: I too will no longer rustle or kill your cattle. You are my brother, let us live in peace.
Ujege said it was clear from the flyer that the military has acknowledged that the Fulani herdsmen are responsible for the large-scale massacre and massive destruction in of farm crops in the state.
He regretted that instead of addressing issues of justice, reparation and compensation, the federal government is compelling people of the state to accommodate the perpetrators of the heinous atrocities.
“Moreover, there is no reference to the Open Grazing Prohibition and Establishment of Ranches Law 2017, which addresses the fundamental issues of making both the farmers and the herders coexist in peace. The military is not only silent on the law but has encouraged open grazing with all its concomitant consequences. This silence on the law points to the fact that they are not in its support and are not ready to ensure its enforcement”.
But the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 707 Special Forces Brigade, Major Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, in a swift reaction, countered the position of the Tiv leader saying “Operation Cat-race is not in support of any group”.
The Army spokesman, Major Ayeni said the role of the army in the crisis is to ensure the return of enduring peace in sacked communities and safe return of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
“All that the army needs to do here is to ensure that no Benue resident is killed or displaced from their homes, that is all we are doing. We want to ensure peaceful coexistence among the herders and farmers. We are not saying the Fulani herdsmen should not obey the anti-open grazing law enacted by the Benue State government.
“Let me inform you that we had arrested a Fulani herdsman yesterday and two others that wanted to attack Governor Ortom’s farm in Guma and with all these successes you should know that Operation Ayem A Kpatuma is not in support of any group and is not in the pursuit or criticising any group.”
“Our role is to make sure that Benue State is peaceful and one of the ways we are going about it is for the herders to know that either a Tiv man or an Idoma man or Igede man is a Nigerian like him and a herder who is not violent now is their brother.
“However in the course of the military exercise if we find a violent herdsman that want to kill or displace any person in Benue State, we get him arrested and that is why we arrested two people two weeks ago, and arrested another one for preventing the Tiv people from been peaceful in their own environment.
“So the way and manner we go in achieving a peaceful environment in Benue State especially in Guma and Logo local government areas of the state and Katsina-Ala local government is by using this psychological method to test these people that we are friends, don’t fight or pursue the other because we are one family. But however, if you saw anyone who want to kill you, report and we will get that person arrested and deal with him according to the law”, said Major Ayeni.
http://dailypost.ng/2018/02/22/benue-killings-army-providing-cover-armed-herdsmen-tiv-leaders/ There is no way on this planet that Tiv man will ever co-exist with the fulani herdsmen again, any herdsman living in Benue or visiting Benue hencefort,his/her security is not guarantee. The cat will not dance forever. |

Cromcruach91: In 2009....FG and the sister union of NASU....ASUU agreed that universities get N3 trillion over 2 years.
In 2013...when ASUU went on strike to enforce that demand....FG told them no money...and reduced it to N1 trillion over 5 years...200bn of which has been paid.
Add the fact that we cannot afford an education budget of 26% of the national budget...ie N2.04 trillion naira...and that money won't just go on universities...pry and sec school....and you see why govt is not answering them
Options left are
1.Another IMF loan
2.Fees have to be raised
3.Everybody pays tax at the rate of 50-60% of your annual income.
Govt is corrupt...but the fact is....the money is not there. That is why the corruption is so painful. There is no money? Where is National assembly salaries and allawances coming from without skipping? We are our own problem, scrap the senate and put that money in educational system. |

CastedDude: According to reports, the 40-year-old leader of the killer herdsmen said to be responsible for the attacks in Benue has been arrested. Alhaji Laggi who is said to be the mastermind of the Fulani herdsmen responsible for the attacks in Benue State - was apprehended following strict orders by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to his Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by ACP Abba Kayari at the Tunga Forrest in Nasarawa State.
Aside Laggi, the police authorities said four other principal suspects were arrested between February 16 to 19 also in Tunga town, Nasarawa State, in possession of AK47 rifles and other prohibited arms.
The four suspects were arrested in connection to the killing of Sergeant Solomon Dung, other police officers and many innocent citizens in Benue State.
While Laggi was said to be the mastermind, the other four were identified as Mallam Mumini Abdullahi, 34, Muhammed Adamu, 30 and Ibrahim Sule, 32.
During preliminary interrogations, the suspects confessed to the killings and mentioned their fleeing gang members who are in possession of the police rifles they took from the cops they murdered. Already the police said serious follow up is in progress in Benue, Taraba and Benue States.
Source; https://www.nationalhelm.co/2018/02/leader-of-killer-fulani-herdsmen-alhaji-laggi-arrested-by-police.html After series of meeting btw police and herdsmen, they decide to sacrifice this one to deceived Benue people, this is the man that made the threat,it was their national chairman, where is he? Apart from that,Nasarawa state government denied any presence of the killer herdsmen in Nasarawa, and the arrested culprits were arrested in Nasarawa state. |

Crime › Lapai Boiled Again. by Toktee(op): 4:55pm On Feb 17, 2018 |
It all started yesterday arround 5pm when some gwari people were coming back from a weding ceremony with Ameria and Ango in the same car, when they got to lapai heading towards Saminanka road, they came face to face with the men in black(the police) who mount a road block in front of their station(GRA POLICE STATION). The police asked the driver to produce the particulars of the vehicle which he obliged, the police asked for drivers liecence of which the driver said he don't have,at this point everybody in the vehicle was becoming frustrated, that was when the driver dash back to the car and this,as i quote"i came all the way from kuta to gwada then through minna,no one harrassed us,cos each and everyone that saw us only wish us happy marriage, why now,iam going now"the police said ,if you move,i will fire you,the driver said,is your call, and zoomed off, climb the wood that was used to blocked the road, that was when hell was let loosed. RATATATA.......was the sound of an AK-47,the car goes slow, and a young man in his late 20s drop out of the car dead, the gate of Hell was at this point let open. The gwaris put a call at home and kuta, within an hour, kuta men arrived with twenty litres of fuel, head straight to the police station and set the patrol vehicle ablaze, while others were on their way to set the station ablaze, that was when the ratatata resumed again, while the police were firing, the gwaris were still advancing towards the station, within twenty minutes,a police officer lay dead at this point, the re-enforcement of army and SARS arrived from minna, and the sound of ratatatata continued without succes,it took the intervention of the Emir of Lapai to called the gwaris to order, when the dust settled, three police men were decleared missing. More re-enforcement of gwaris arrived Lapai this morning as early as 8am,with more SARS also arriving. Now i believed that jazzs is real. |
