IyfeNamikaze: Can you even listen to yourself?
If the Nigerian retailer sells at ₦250, he still spends that ₦250 within the Nigerian economy, the government extracts taxes based off the ₦250 which means that the economy is growing by 12.5. BUT if the Chinese sells it at ₦180 and sends the ₦100 back to china, not only have the economy lost that ₦100, it has also lost a sizable percentage of its IGR by -4.2 .
I can't believe what I'm reading on this site sha, it's like the government should make Economics compulsive for EVERY discipline in the university. True true, school no be scam. Smh, 🤦🏾♂️ out of 250 it’s just 150 gain. I50 to spend in the economy. Both party send 100 back to china so no difference. |

Kalulu44: I was responding to Madridguy who brought in Alaba market into it and even mention my brothers in Ghana. So I'm not the one who deviated from the original argument. . And to the original argument, you guys still haven't admitted the Chinese are wrong for bringing goods to the domain of their own distributors/wholesalers and sale to to retailers at company's price. How are the distributors going to sell theirs? Same price as they bought from the company. Is that gain or loss Alright Lagos state as a state don’t deprive businesses. The only businesses Nigerian government can defend and fight for against foreign investors are the manufacturing industry. Anything importation is ruled out. Know this and know peace. |

IyfeNamikaze: They are not producing yes, but your perspective is the wrong one here. When the locals are dominating the market, selling at a higher price and making more money, where does that wealth go? Does it not still circulate back into the economy thereby growing it? When you knock out that avenue of IGR the economy will be the one to suffer it. Tomorrow now you will be saying Lagos is topping in IGR and here you are encouraging moves that will dwindle that IGR due to sentiments, cutting your nose to spite your face.
The Chinese send their wealth back to their country, they don't spend it here which is why no serious country allows this sort of practice within their borders, not even the Chinese government would allow it without imposing heavy taxes on the foreign retailer It’s the same thing. You’re not just thinking it straight. Chinese sell a product for 100#. Nigeria marketers buy and sells for 250#. The person that loses here is the customers. We’re just collecting money from Mr A and giving it to Mr B in the same country. Chinese will always get their 100# manufacturer price. Now the Chinese came and start selling at 180# as a retailer. They live here with us and send 100# back to china. The end users are happy, Chinese manufacturers are happy with positive feedback, and their sales rep enjoying 80# spends the money in our economy because they live with us like the Lebanese also. |

IyfeNamikaze: if they're selling cheaper than the indigenous people, the people will benefit on the short term but will suffer job losses, inability to enter the market, wealth building on the long term, the economy as a whole will not benefit anything whatsoever both on the short and long term.
Why do you think that America doesn't allow other EVs companies to set up retail shops in America despite that they sell at a lower rate than Tesla and other auto mobile companies? Why is it that apple are having a monopoly on US markets despite the fact that Huawei, Xiaomi, oppo etc have comparable products and at a cheaper price than the iPhone? Why do you think EU have a market protection laws within the countries in EU? It is very simple. Because US are also manufacturing those stuff. US still import some things from china. In this case the marketers are not adding any benefit to the Nigerian economy because they import those goods from china and don’t manufacture them. They only feed fat from customers. |

Kalulu44: There you lied, Who's not concern about the people. In your logic, the Chinese should eat their cake and still have it. If they know they can go out and sell the goods themselves, why the need for them to advertise for wholesalers to come their companies and buy from them. If they love the masses and wants to sell things cheaper, they should stop supplying and distributing to wholesalers and go market the goods themselves. In that way everyone including me will be happy. But you want to be gaining from the wholesalers and retailers at the expense of your distributor, how those that makes sense. . Talking of Alaba Int'l market. You're not a kid, I am not a kid. If you and I want to buy quality products, we know where to get it. There's Samsung, LG and co Shops all over the states. But you and I choose to go to Alaba bcus we are looking for something cheaper. And when you're looking for something cheaper, you're at the risk of being scammed. Or are my brothers behind oluwole fake visas, certificates, company's identity, birth and death certificates and all. While they're genuine other places to get this stuffs, still people patronize the oluwole guys. So my friend don't blame the people scamming people, rather the blame should be on the victims of the scam. We all have our eyes and mind open before this scamming takes place. No tribes is excused from bad eggs, so trying to make it solely my brothers is a no no. As for the Chinese own, you're only jubilating and rejoicing bcus it affects the people you love to hate, but in truth what they the Chinese are doing is not good. Like I said, you’ll rather be more sentimental than being logical. Where do oluwole certificate comes in? We’re talking about Chinese products but you’ve shifted the goal to your tribe vs my tribe argument. What do you mean by we choose to go to Alaba? Are you agreeing that alaba international market is a home of fake products? If you’re agreeing with that then it’s more reason for the Chinese manufacturer to come in. Because two decades ago when my dad went to buy Lg tv from whole sale store in Alaba he never knew you guys made alaba international market to be for fake product base on the response you just gave me. You mean over a thousand importers in Alaba are doing fake importation? So who should not go to Alaba anymore? So we should petition the state government to close down alaba international market since the bad eggs are more than the good eggs or just allow Chinese manufacturer take over? Please stop diverting this discussion to your tribe scam vs my tribe scam we’re not doing scam competition here. |

Kalulu44: After reading majority comments, I just can't help but shake my head. This tribalism thing has really eating deep into our fabrics especially from Igbo and Yorubas. Anything that will bring one tribe down is giving joy to the other tribe vice versa. Honestly as an Igbo man born and brought up in the West. I hardly put mouth into this two tribes matters. Cus I have good and jolly good friends from both sides of the divides. . Now to this Chinese issue, one tribe is happy that the Chinese wants to deprive the other tribe from making money and feel the Chinese are right with what they're doing. But I disagree. I live in Igbesa Ogun state close to the Chinese free trade zone that has over 200 companies inside the zone producing different types of products you can think of that human beings uses. Everyday, we watch over 100 trucks and trailers carrying goods to go supply customers outside the state which includes this trade Fair traders. The Chinese are supplying this traders at wholesale prices, and this traders will still pay transportation to bring the goods to them. With this, they have certain amount they'll sell the goods to retailers. Then you as the Chinese companies supplying this traders now decided to bring the goods yourself to their domain and sell at your company's price against the traders retail price. How does this make sense? Pls guys let's leave tribal sentiment at times and think about most of the things properly, thanks. Anything to benefit the end users is a welcome development. You’re only sobered because your tribes men will be affected. You’re not happy that the end users are getting quality product at cheaper prices. Explain greed and selfishness again let me understand better. Besides that as someone who live close to alaba international market how is it tribal sentiment that we have been buying fake brand new tvs from Alaba over the years and Chinese retailers are giving us original products at more discount? You’re not concerned about the people, you’re are being sentimental about your tribesmen. |

IyfeNamikaze: This is not going to improve any economy, it is going to kill it! My goodness we're poorly educated in this country sha. There's not one single country that wants to grow its economy that would allow a foreign country to establish a retail warehouse within their borders. This is simple basic economic knowledge, exactly how textile died in Nigeria.
You're looking at it from a tribalistic point of view. You’re talking jargons. But you and the Chinese retailers are killing the economy with importation. The only difference is that the Chinese sells original products why you sell fake products to kill the economy and frustrate Nigerians more. So teach me economics I’m listening.. before you start explanation just know that I live close to alaba international market. Home of scrap tvs package as brand new. |

Inosky: You think Chinese business men/women love you more, until they destroy the Nigerian SMEs business and go back to their country while you and your people remain poor. Think why Europe is trying to regulate their cheap electric cars in European markets over their own. Every reasonable government will try to protect their own, and homegrown products. Just like Dangote said: it's only Africans that develop Africa. If a Nigerian make money he uses it to develop Nigeria, same can't be said of Chinese in Nigeria. There should be higher taxes for foreigners doing retail business in Nigeria, that's if Government not banning them completely, to protect Nigeria Small Scale Businesses. Think! Government will not ban them from selling their original products because some few greedy business men want to sell fake products to us at exorbitant prices. The government will listen to well meaning Nigerians not greedy marketers and their unions. |

owobokiri: The Chinese must go home. Those trying to frame this as the practice of free trade should just zip it. Likewise, those who see this as the ultimate weapon to push certain people off their pedestal in Nigerias retail business, should see the bigger picture. This is above petty politics so let's be guided...
The Chinese mass produce these goods, they then come down here to mass wholesale it, then they retail it. Some are now involved in hawking stuffs like mobile phones and battery across Nigerian cities. That is outrageously evil.. It has to stop!
If they take the whole business line, where will Nigerians be involved? How do Nigerians in the informal sector survive? Why should the government allow such imperialist move that will result in maximum capital flight? Even in china, they once banned foreigners, especially Nigerians from opening shops. They only lifted that recently with a caveat that there must be Chinese employed and taxes paid! Mind you, we are talking of shops that wholly sell Chinese products here..
The Nigerian government should move above ethnic sentiments and defend the country. The informal sector/agriculture provide most of the job opportunities for the endless quantity of untrained humans in this country. The Chinese who rarely embrace Nigerians in their countr,y should not be allowed to wrestle that space away from the firm grip of ordinary struggling Nigerians..
Thank you all! The Chinese retailers will help us avoid fake products! Go to Alaba and many places. Fake tvs everywhere. That is what the Chinese retailers will stop. Lagosians can enjoy the value of their money after years of fake products patronage. Those that can’t stand competition should close down. This is Lagos! |
