Health / Pregnatab: The Importance Of Iron In Your Prenatal Journey by Tolu06: 6:25pm On Jan 15
As an expectant mother, ensuring that you and your growing baby receive the essential nutrients is crucial for a healthy pregnancy. One of these vital nutrients is iron, which plays a pivotal role in supporting both maternal well-being and the optimal development of the fetus. In this blog post, we will explore the benefits of iron for pregnant women and emphasize the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to iron supplementation, as advocated by healthcare professionals.

The Role of Iron in Pregnancy

Iron is a key component of red blood cells, responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. This is especially important during pregnancy, as the body undergoes significant changes to support the growing baby. Adequate iron levels contribute to building resistance to stress and disease while preventing common symptoms like tiredness, weakness, irritability, and depression.

Recommended Iron Intake

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), pregnant women should aim for a total daily intake of 27 mg of iron from both food sources and prenatal vitamins. Ensuring the right amount of iron is crucial for the well-being of both mother and baby.

The Dangers of Excessive Iron:

While iron is essential, it's important to note that excessive amounts can be harmful. High doses of iron supplementation are not recommended unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional. Pregnatab, a leading pregnancy supplement company, recognizes the significance of this balance and has formulated its product with an ideal, moderate level of iron.

Pregnatab's Approach

Pregnatab understands the unique needs of pregnant women and has developed a prenatal supplement with careful consideration of iron levels. Unlike some prenatal iron supplements on the market, Pregnatab's formulation aligns with the ACOG recommendations to provide the right amount of iron without risking unnecessary excess. Pregnatab emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive approach to supplementation, addressing not only iron but also a spectrum of essential nutrients.

Conclusion

As you embark on this beautiful journey of motherhood, prioritizing your health and the well-being of your baby is of utmost importance. Understanding the benefits of iron, its recommended intake, and the potential risks associated with excessive supplementation can empower you to make informed choices. Choose a prenatal supplement like Pregnatab that aligns with your healthcare professional's advice, ensuring a balanced and healthy pregnancy for both you and your baby.

Health / Orode Uduaghan Will Advocate For The Reinstatement Of Accessible Health Services by Tolu06: 11:34am On May 20, 2022
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “The state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. A relative inability to carry out daily activities to maintain a household or to perform work related functions is considered ill health.
Access to Healthcare without discrimination is a fundamental human right and everyone’s responsibility. Individuals in rural areas often lack adequate healthcare due to accessibility, availability of standard healthcare systems and socio-cultural factors that affect their perception of health compared to the urban population. The provision of health services in rural and remote areas is also significantly affected by limited funding and other resource constraints.
There has always been an inverse distribution of healthcare services in rural when compared to the urban population. It is sad to know that those in the greatest need of medical services in healthcare, especially in the riverine areas, get the lowest quality possible healthcare and usually when illness has degenerated. Therefore, prioritizing rural health is imperative and should be a frontline concern for governance and decision making in the near future.
In response to the plight of riverine communities, Chevron, as part of its commitment to support partnerships and programmes that promote healthy communities, it launched the River Boat Clinic initiative in January 2001 to deliver healthcare directly to its host communities. The programme is run in collaboration with the Delta State government through the Hospital Management Board, HMB.
The River Boat Clinic is a mobile clinic (sea craft) that moves on a weekly basis from one community to another, dispensing medical care to Chevron’s host communities. Its services cover communities in Escravos, Olero (Benin river), Dibi and Abiteye fields. The preventive health education initiated by the medical crew significantly contributed to the reduction of medical cases in the river boat clinic coverage communities.
For almost two decades now, the Oil giant restricted the medical services of the river boat clinic to Escravos communities, abandoning other fields. Indigenes of Olero and Dibi fields in Warri North LGA had long clamoured for restoration of the RBC services but to no avail.
If elected as a member representing the good people of Warri North Constituency at the state house of assembly, Orode Meyiwa Uduaghan, whom through her foundation, ‘The Pink Pearl Foundation’ had aided women across Africa in the fight against breast and cervical cancer, has revealed that she is committed to advocating for the reinstatement of the river boat clinic services to Chevron’s host communities in the LGA.
The Frontline PDP Warri North Aspirant, Orode Uduaghan, would introduce mobile healthcare services in riverine communities, giving them access to convenient and quality healthcare, and implement environmental compliance policies that protect the riverine communities from the effects of pollution.

Politics / Olu Of Warri Commends Orode Uduaghan’s Determination by Tolu06: 11:52am On May 18, 2022
His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri has commended Orode Meyiwa Uduaghan’s courage, boldness and determination in her bid to represent Warri North Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly. The Olu made the commendation in his Palace in Warri on Saturday May 14 when the Frontline PDP Warri North Constituency Aspirant and her retinue visited him to seek royal blessings.

Orode who has proposed “a greater Warri North” agenda for the development of the constituency informed the Olu that her administration will focus on seven key areas which include: Education on both primary and tertiary levels, job creation and ease of doing business, social protection, health, youth development, women’s right and opportunities, and peace and security. Orode believes that the seven key areas will help to improve the quality of life of the great people of Warri North LGA.

Responding, the Olu of Warri commended Orode’s courage, boldness and determination and prayed that the courage that has sustained her so far will not diminish. He pointed out that Orode is the only Itsekiri woman who has visited him to seek his blessings.
“I am not aware that any other woman has come here before, at least from the Itsekiri extraction contesting for any position.
“The thing about life and faith is that when words are spoken, people who come out to catch up with those voices, there is some sort of reward for them and on our coronation day when I said; women will no longer be invisible, I have that courage that it will happen. I thought we were looking at fifteen years.

There is a reward for first partakers, there is a blessing for first partakers, and so, I bestow that blessing on you. And no matter how this process goes, I really pray all women of Itsekiri extraction are given attention”. The Olu prayed.
Ogiame reiterated that Warri Kingdom and anybody who calls themselves Itsekiri, will be in his image because he (the Olu) is in God’s image. He stressed that his vision for Itsekiri is one that will make Nigeria and Africa envy her. Meanwhile, a delegation of the Uduaghan and Abigborodo families and supporters of the House of Assembly hopeful was led by Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan. Parents of the House of Assembly hopeful, the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan and wife, Mrs Roli Uduaghan were in attendance.

Other dignitaries in attendance include Hon. Toju Godwin Abigo, Mr. Friday Ukueberuwa, Hon. Samuel Meyiwa Khalil, Mr. Austin Dote, Comr. David Yomi Okpaghoro, Mr. Sam Bobi and many others.

Education / Orode Uduaghan Suggests Three Ways To Improve The Education Sector In Rural Area by Tolu06: 11:37am On May 18, 2022
“70.5% of teachers in rural communities perceive their teaching jobs to be of low value and worth, leading to a high rate of teacher absenteeism that currently stands at 20% in government primary schools.” Orode Uduaghan stated in a Facebook post that she shared her thoughts on the state of education in Nigeria’s rural communities.

She went on to explain that while school renovations were a great way to support education, they were not enough to get children interested in education. For this to happen, more teachers needed to fall in love with the teaching profession, and in her write-up, Orode Uduaghan suggested three ways that this could happen.

JOB SATISFACTION FOR TEACHERS

Firstly, she established that more advocacy needed to be done for the creation and promotion of the necessary legal frameworks that would ensure an increase in job satisfaction and boost the morale of teachers in rural communities, particularly the riverine areas. These policies would ensure that teachers were upskilled, properly trained, and remunerated; also working conditions would be improved. Teacher empowerment programs would also exist alongside reward programs for constant attendance which would reduce teacher absenteeism by 60% in 24 months.

ADEQUATE TEACHER-STUDENT RATIO IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Secondly, she suggested the introduction and advocacy of more policies that would ensure an adequate teacher-student ratio in public schools. This would help reduce the possibility of teacher fatigue and unproductive student participation.

BETTER SCHOOL SYSTEMS & LEARNING PROGRAMS

Thirdly, she advocated for better school systems. She stated that the existence of better learning platforms would encourage students to re-enroll in tailored learning programs and give room for children whose education has been disrupted in one way or another. “I strongly believe these structures will persuade them to continue without the embarrassment of being left behind and without interrupting the ongoing school system. These programs can and will be designed and promoted by supporting private sector partners for sustainability,” she said.

Advocating the need to improve all aspects of the schools, from infrastructure to management systems through the introduction of technology, she stated that anyone who truly desired to change the mindset of the children and young adults needed to first upgrade the medium through which information was passed to them.

She emphasized the role of Technology in the evolution of the education sector in rural areas, saying, “Technology cannot be ignored no matter how little. Every child must get the opportunity to thrive in an environment that expands their minds and awakens their imagination. People believe that introducing technology to schools in most rural communities is impossible but I disagree. Technology comes in many forms and can be introduced as a learning tool in many different ways. I am and will always be an advocate for creating environments that give children more than enough room to grow beyond the norm.

Orode Uduaghan has constantly advocated for improved education, especially in rural areas. She has also put in the work through positions she has held. Currently, she is the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Dreams From The Slum, and a non/executive Director of Mastercare International. She is a firm believer in collaboration for success as she shared in her write-up “I am certain that with the right strategy (policies, collaborations, partnerships, and implementation plan) we can and will improve the lives of our children.”

Politics / Financial Empowerment Program Hosted By Orode Uduaghan, Wevvo Nigeria And Others by Tolu06: 2:53pm On Apr 28, 2022
Orode Uduaghan the former Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Small and Micro Enterprises, recently convened a financial empowerment program targeted at female breadwinners, single mothers, widowed, and divorced mothers.

About 300 women who qualified to be beneficiaries were in attendance at Koko, Delta State on the 15th of April. The program provides beneficiaries with access to loans with an interest rate of only 2.5% monthly and access to up to three million Naira without collateral. Beneficiaries also enjoy a savings product with target savings which provides access to a free hospital cash insurance policy and scholarship for a child.

To execute this, Orode collaborated with organisations that have been intentional about bridging the poverty gap and helping more women access the support they need. They include LAPO Microfinance Bank (LAPO MfB) and Wevvo Nigeria. LAPO MfB is a pro-women organization, which has sustainably helped women access micro-credit facilities and free social advocacy services in health, education, legal aids, and skills acquisition. Wevvo Nigeria is a community-based platform that supports female breadwinners across Nigeria, providing them with access to finance, capacity development, and a safe space to thrive.

Orode Uduaghan has been a consistent advocate for improving the quality of life and increasing financial accessibility and literacy for women, and this has been evident through projects such as the Rubies Vocational School and Seeds Nigeria.

Nairaland / General / Orode Uduaghan Says " Empowering Women Is Key To National Growth" by Tolu06: 8:31pm On Apr 20, 2022
Orode Uduaghan, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State, believes that women are crucial to any nation’s economic development.

She said, "By empowering women through policies that improve access to education, access to market opportunities, finance, and quality healthcare, we encourage development for everyone." Research shows that when women benefit from economic empowerment, resources tend to cascade in a way that has a positive impact on their households and communities.

By promoting economic empowerment for women, we create platforms for sustainable development.

My life’s work has centered on this idea, and I am honored to have supported thousands of remarkable women in building the foundations of their own work as architects of society. "When we fail to accord honor, respect, and dignity to women, our society’s structure is under threat of collapse," she said.

We should honor women who pave the way for others, who are resilient in the face of bias, who wrestle against injustice at every level, and who continue to advocate for the progress of communities.

Nairaland / General / Making A Difference In The Lives Of Rural School Children In Nigeria by Tolu06: 4:17pm On Apr 20, 2022
Making A Difference in The Lives of Rural School Children in Nigeria.

70.5% of teachers in rural communities perceive their teaching jobs to be of low value and worth, leading to a high rate of teacher absenteeism that currently stands at 20% in government primary schools. School infrastructure development (renovations) is a great way to support education however, the ecosystem requires more. We must get children into classrooms and ensure they stay in classrooms. We must advocate for and promote legal frameworks that seek to increase job satisfaction and boosts the morale of teachers in these communities particularly riverine areas.

By promoting policies that upskill teachers and advocating for trainings, improved remuneration for trained teachers, better working conditions, teacher empowerment programs and reward for attendance you reduce the rate of teacher absenteeism by 60% in 24 months.

We must introduce and advocate for policies that ensure adequate teacher-student ratio in public schools. This helps cut down teacher fatigue and unproductive participation.

We must advocate for better school systems to provide learning platforms that encourage students to re-enroll in a tailored continuous learning program. This way you create an open door for children who have had one disruption or the other. I strongly believe these structures will persuade them to continue without the embarrassment of being left behind and without interruption of the on-going school system. These programs can and will be designed and promoted by supporting private sector partners for sustainability.

By advocating for the improvement of school infrastructure and management systems you create room for the introduction of technology as a learning, teaching and management tool.

If we truly want to change the mindset of our children and young adults we must upgrade the medium through which information is passed on to them.

Technology cannot be ignored no matter how little.

Being a director at mydreamstead school since 2014 (a well known rural community education advocacy program in the heart of Ajegunle) has opened my mind and heart to understand what is needed. I am certain that with the right strategy (policies, collaborations, partnerships and implementation plan) we can and will improve the lives of our children.
