Eyewitnesses at the National Assembly confirm that the two lawmakers were seen exchanging pleasantries after their respective proposals scaled through committee approval, earning rare bipartisan applause. However, insiders note that only one of the two states will be endorsed in the final stage, depending on constitutional, demographic, and political considerations. Proposed Local Government Areas For Etiti State: From Imo State: Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, Obowo, Ihitte/Uboma, Ideato North From Abia State: Isuikwuato, Umunneochi From Ebonyi State: Onicha, Ohaozara, Ivo From Anambra State: Orumba North, Orumba South From Enugu State: Awgu, Oji River, Aninri For Anioma State (Delta North): Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North East, Ika South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Oshimili North, Oshimili South, and Ukwuani. Why a New South-East State Matters The creation of a new state in the South-East carries enormous political, economic, and psychological significance for the region and Nigeria at large. Equity and Fair Representation: The South-East currently has five states, while other geopolitical zones have six or more, leading to reduced representation at the National Assembly, fewer ministerial slots, and limited access to federal resources. A sixth state would correct this imbalance and strengthen the region’s voice in national decision-making. Economic Expansion and Job Creation: A new state capital and administrative structure would bring massive infrastructural development, attract investors, and create new opportunities for youth employment, construction, and commerce — particularly in areas like agriculture, manufacturing, and small-scale enterprise. Cultural Unity and Regional Identity: Both proposed states — Etiti and Anioma — reflect the shared Igbo heritage and cultural ties that extend across current state boundaries. Their creation would not only celebrate this unity but also preserve Igbo identity within Nigeria’s federal structure. Improved Governance and Local Development: With smaller administrative units, governance can become more people-centered, ensuring that remote communities benefit from improved roads, healthcare, education, and security. |
In what may soon become one of the most defining moments in Nigeria’s recent political history, the nation is reportedly on the verge of creating its 37th state — and this time, all eyes are on the South-East region. Fresh information emerging from legislative circles indicates that Etiti State and Anioma State have both been shortlisted as contenders, with one expected to be approved as the 6th state in the South-East geopolitical zone. This move, long demanded by socio-political groups and regional leaders, aims to bring equity and balance to Nigeria’s federating units — ensuring the South-East stands on the same footing as other zones. Sources close to the development reveal that initial approval for the creation of a new state was made in Lagos on Monday, signaling a major step toward constitutional ratification by the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly. If successful, Nigeria could officially welcome a new state by 2026, reshaping the political and economic dynamics of the South-East. The Lawmakers Behind the Bills In the House of Representatives, Hon. Amaobi Ogah is spearheading the Etiti State bill, while Senator Ned Nwoko leads the Anioma State proposal in the Senate. Both lawmakers, though from different political zones, share a common vision — to ensure fair representation and accelerate development across Igbo-speaking areas that have felt historically marginalized. Eyewitnesses at the National Assembly confirm that the two lawmakers were seen exchanging pleasantries after their respective proposals scaled through committee approval, earning rare bipartisan applause. However, insiders note that only one of the two states will be endorsed in the final stage, depending on constitutional, demographic, and political considerations. https://etimesafrica./2025/10/27/new-dawn-for-ala-igbo-nigeria-set-to-create-37th-state-as-etiti-and-anioma-proposals-reach-final-stage/

The Imo State Government has condemned in strong terms the attempted reintroduction of a barbaric widowhood practice in Awo-Omamma, Oru East Local Government Area, where a widow was reportedly coerced to partake in a degrading ritual involving the drinking of water used to bathe her late husband’s corpse. Governor Hope Uzodimma described the act as “barbaric, cruel, and completely unacceptable in a civilized society.” Speaking through the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Chief (Mrs.) Nkechi Ugwu, the Governor ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident and vowed that all perpetrators would face the full weight of the law. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mrs. Chika Ndubuisi, widow of the late Mr. Odinakachi Ndubuisi, was accused by her in-laws of causing her husband’s death and subsequently detained inside an ambulance with the corpse. Reports indicate that she was being compelled to drink the so-called “corpse water” to prove her innocence before authorities intervened. https://techandbiz.com.ng/2025/10/26/governor-hope-uzodimma-condemns-attempted-widowhood-corpse-water-ritual-in-awo-omamma-orders-full-investigation/

Co-founder of StorGit and international trade expert John Dale has revealed that he recently signed a billion-naira palm oil delivery contract to Niger Republic in partnership with a trader who has no formal education — a story he says underscores the strength and value of traditional trade systems in Africa. In a statement shared on his LinkedIn page, Dale described his business partner as a seasoned palm oil trader who, despite lacking formal schooling, demonstrates exceptional business acumen, coordination, and trustworthiness. “He’s currently in Niger Republic, coordinating thousands of kegs of palm oil from different Nigerian states across the border — running numbers in his head faster than some people can with Excel,” Dale noted. According to him, the trader’s deep understanding of profit, risk, and trust gives him a competitive edge over many formally educated professionals in the corporate sector. Dale praised his partner’s integrity and ability to inspire confidence among countless traders in the palm oil value chain. The AgriTech entrepreneur further reflected on the broader implications of the experience, emphasizing that real business intelligence lies in results, not certificates. “Formal education is an advantage, but it’s not the only path to wisdom,” Dale said. “Sometimes, the greatest business education happens outside the classroom and boardroom — in the heat of the market.” https://techandbiz.com.ng/2025/10/23/agritech-entrepreneur-john-dale-signs-billion-naira-palm-oil-deal-with-uneducated-partner-highlights-power-of-traditional-trade/

The European Union has officially approved a sweeping plan to phase out all imports of Russian oil and gas by January 2028, in what officials describe as a landmark move toward energy independence from Moscow. The agreement, reached earlier today by EU ambassadors and reported by Reuters, marks one of the bloc’s most decisive steps yet to sever economic ties with Russia amid its ongoing war in Ukraine. The measure passed despite strong objections from Hungary and Slovakia — two countries that remain heavily reliant on Russian energy and had warned that a full ban could devastate their economies. Both nations depend on the Druzhba pipeline, a major conduit for Russian crude and gas into Central Europe. Under the EU’s qualified majority voting system, legislation can be adopted without unanimous consent, meaning that opposition from Budapest and Bratislava was not enough to block the deal. https://techandbiz.com.ng/2025/10/12/eu-approves-2028-ban-on-russian-oil-and-gas-despite-fierce-opposition-from-hungary-and-slovakia/ |

Drive down the lush lowlands of Anambra West and you’ll see it — Mmiata Anam, a village that spreads out like a green quilt along the riverside. I’ve always thought this is one of those places that quietly tells you what rural Anambra really feels like: the hush of early morning mist, the red-earth footpaths, the long yam barns leaning against mud-brick walls. Set between farmlands and waterways, Mmiata Anam isn’t just another rural settlement. It’s a scenic village — a patchwork of farmlands, fishing ponds, and homesteads shaded by tall palms. In the cool season, when the river drops and the fields are green, the place looks like a watercolor painting. Like many Anambra villages, it is beautifully laid out — clusters of compounds gathered around open spaces for meetings and festivals, the dusty road winding past small markets and into the farms. From the higher ground near Umuonuorah you can look down and see the river glinting through a ring of mangroves. Mmiata Anam is not just picturesque; it’s storied. Oral history says hunters from Aguleri and Nando settled here centuries ago, drawn by the rich soil and abundant game. The village still carries that pioneer spirit — fields full of yam and cassava, canoes pulled up by the riverbank, markets that bustle every Nkwo day. And it’s a village of contrasts. Modern Anambra is slowly arriving — tarred roads snaking in, small shops painted in bright colors, the hum of motorcycles ferrying people to the Nkwo Otupu market. Yet, the old traditions remain: fishing festivals at Iyiokwulu Lake, the respect for totems, the rhythm of age-grade meetings. I sometimes think Mmiata Anam is the kind of place urban dwellers forget exists — quiet, green, and orderly, like so many Anambra villages that sit between river and upland. But step into it and you see why the people call it home: the wide skies, the fertile soil, the sense of community. Anambra is famous for its bustling towns, but villages like Mmiata Anam are its heart. The scenic calm, the neat homesteads under the palms, the river breeze — they remind us that development doesn’t have to erase the soul of a place. If you ever find yourself near the Anambra West waterways, look out for Mmiata Anam. It’s a postcard of the old and the new Anambra, living side by side.

As a Nigerian living in Finland, I’ve grown used to hearing all sorts of narratives about my home country—especially the negative ones. So, on a recent visit back to Nigeria, I decided to spend a few days in Onitsha, Anambra State. I wanted to shop at the famous Onitsha Main Market, one of the largest markets in West Africa. My sister and I had a full shopping day—bags of fabrics, gifts, and traditional items for friends back in Europe. We were exhausted but satisfied as we boarded a keke (tricycle) heading home. Barely five minutes after we got down, it hit us—we had left all our shopping bags in the tricycle. Panic set in. We had no contact information for the driver, and the market was a chaotic sea of people and identical tricycles. We started what felt like a hopeless search, asking anyone who would listen if they’d seen the driver. Most responses were discouraging. People told us, kindly but firmly, that our chances of recovering those items were almost zero. We had just started accepting that all our purchases—some quite expensive—were gone for good when something incredible happened. The tricycle driver showed up. He had been searching for us too. With a calm smile, he handed over our bags, every item still intact. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Living abroad, you hear so many stories about dishonesty back home. Yet here was this man, who could have easily disappeared with our things, choosing to do the right thing. We thanked him sincerely and gave him a small reward, though no amount of money could really match the integrity he displayed. That day reminded me of something important: not all Nigerians are corrupt. Despite the stereotypes, there are honest, kind-hearted people doing the right thing every day—without recognition, without fanfare. So wherever you are, remember: ✔️ People are individuals, not stereotypes. ✔️ One bad experience doesn’t define a whole nation. ✔️ Integrity still exists—sometimes where you least expect it. Have you ever been pleasantly surprised by a stranger’s kindness? I’d love to hear your story too. #HopeNwosu #Onitsha #Nigeria #Integrity #TravelTales #Humanity #GoodPeopleExist https://etimesafrica./2025/08/08/not-all-nigerians-are-corrupt-a-personal-experience-from-my-trip-to-onitsha/ |

Honestly, I think a lot of Americans live paycheck to paycheck because the system just isn’t built to help the average person get ahead anymore. Even if you're earning what used to be considered a "good income," it often barely covers the basics — rent or mortgage, food, bills, car payments, and maybe childcare or student loans. Once all that is paid, there’s little or nothing left. One of the biggest issues, in my opinion, is that the cost of living keeps rising while wages stay almost the same. You go to the grocery store and spend \$150 on what feels like two bags of food, yet pay hasn’t moved much in years for many people. Add to that healthcare costs, which can wipe you out overnight if you don’t have strong insurance, and it's no wonder so many people are just trying to survive one paycheck at a time. Debt plays a huge role too. Most Americans rely on credit cards, buy-now-pay-later services, and car loans just to stay afloat. But it’s a trap — the interest adds up quickly, and you’re always playing catch-up. And I also believe part of it is cultural. In the U.S., there’s this constant pressure to "keep up" — nicer cars, better clothes, bigger homes — even if your income can’t really support it. Social media makes it worse, because you’re constantly seeing the highlight reels of other people’s lives. At the end of the day, it’s not just about bad money habits. It's about a system that rewards wealth but punishes working people. Most folks aren’t careless — they’re just doing what they can to survive in an economy that no longer favors the middle or lower class. That's my take. |
DiarisGodoo:Between roughly half to nearly three‑quarters of Americans (depending on method/income) are living paycheck to paycheck. While 53–57% self-report this status, spending data suggests about 26–30% have little to no buffer. This phenomenon spans income levels—even high earners can be paycheck‑to‑paycheck due to expenses. Younger generations and lower incomes are most affected. |

Bloomsvilledgit:nice analogy As of the most recent data available (up to 2024), poverty in the UK remains a significant social issue, particularly affecting minority ethnic groups — with Black communities disproportionately impacted. 🔍 Key Facts on Poverty in the UK (General): Overall poverty rate: About 20–22% of the UK population is considered to be living in poverty. Child poverty: Around 29% of children in the UK live in poverty. Working poverty: A growing number of people in poverty are actually employed — known as the “working poor.” 📊 Poverty Among Black Communities in the UK: According to data from organizations like the Social Metrics Commission, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and UK government statistics: 1. Higher Poverty Rates for Black Households Black African and Black Caribbean households experience poverty rates of around 40–45%, far higher than the national average. For comparison: White British households: ~19% Pakistani households: ~49% Bangladeshi households: ~53% Black African households: ~44% Black Caribbean households: ~39% 2. Key Factors Behind This Disparity Discrimination in the labour market: Black workers often earn less and are underrepresented in senior roles. Higher unemployment rates: Black people are about twice as likely to be unemployed as White people. Housing inequalities: More likely to live in overcrowded or poor-quality housing. Lower accumulated wealth: Generational wealth is lower among Black British families. Single-parent households: A larger proportion of Black households are single-parent, which statistically face higher poverty risks. 3. Impact of Recent Crises COVID-19 and the cost-of-living crisis hit Black communities harder due to: Overrepresentation in frontline/essential jobs. Limited access to safety nets like savings or home ownership. 🔄 What Is Being Done? Community initiatives: Grassroots organizations and local councils offer targeted support. Government support: Universal Credit, child benefits, and housing support — though many say these are not sufficient. Calls for reform: Anti-racism groups and think tanks urge systemic changes in employment, education, and housing policies. 🧠 Insight The intersection of race and poverty in the UK is not merely economic — it's also structural and historic. Despite progress in education and awareness, Black Britons still face uphill battles in equality of opportunity and outcomes. |
