MackyNaija: The process deh straight forward and their score requirements no high.
I heardmost Nigerian graduate students here blast their courses... Met one electrical man with a 4.0 total GPA at graduation and seen two others with A's in all their courses so far.
So.... There is hope for us + at international orientation, school official say 'A GPA of 3.0 isn't bad'. maybe for those with kpali Bro i beg to differ o! I paid my app fee since last Friday, still no word from TAMUK, mailed the international students' help desk and grad school, no replies. I'm not understanding your people o, what would you advice me to do now? |

DreManuel: They don't write paper based in Nigeria. They actually do bro. @Scharles there's no such thing as a hypothetical better option for the test, the choice on which is better is solely your call, check for the peculiarities of both the paper-delivered and computer-delivered tests and choose any that weighs out in your favor. |

nibrainengine: Thanks boss, believe me; after looking at the material I became afraid, seriously. the thing many ehn! Just to tip in, I have really fought a lot in obtaining scholarships in Europe and in the UK, but each time I try, I always get a disappointing outcome. so after speaking to a friend, he advised me to go get a GRE and fire on for funding an assistantship positions in the US Varsities. So please house, I need your advice on the following: 1) how to hit a good GRE score 2) Schools that can readily offer graduate funding without demanding for a TOEFL test score(waiver for English Language Requirements) 3) Best time to hit the nails on the head
P.S: I'm a graduate of Civil Engineering, with a CGPA of 4.36/5.0 (3.62/4.0 according to WES free evaluator). Honestly, no one has all the answers. You'd have to find the little details out through continuous and dedicated research on graduate schools in the U.S(this thread and the visa thread would suffice). But on a general note, my advice would be: 1) Don't even let the voluminous materials overwhelm you loo, you'd be needing just a few. I'd suggest you study these for ur GRE (in no particular order) *The ETS official guide to the GRE (I think there's a new edition out now,if you can get that, good for you!) *ETS verbal and quant guides *Manhattan 5lb *Manhattan 8 series *Kaplan is pretty good for strategies on tackling the verbal and AWA sections *Download the ready4GRE app, magoosh vocab flash cards and the memrise apps *visit vocabulary.com too (Vocabs may be a little overrated though, but u'll have to learn 1000 words at least to build confidence) *Miscellaneous materials like RC 99 and NOVA math bible would suffice. 2) For schools that waive TOEFL, I'm only sure about Tennessee tech and Cleveland state uni cos I know people that studied there and didn't write TOEFL. You'll have to find this out yourself, it's explicitly stated on some schools' website, you'll have to contact the admission office/grad advisor to find out about others'. 3) Lol... Best time would be when you start hitting 340/340 consistently on your practice tests. PS: You have a fresh GPA, a good GRE score will be an icing on the cake. All the best |

Solonzo17: Thanks bro the last GRE I did my quant is very low 140 am looking for a way to improve on it ,that is why I need help ,the trick to tackle those question I have Gruber 2015 edit and Kaplan I still need help i want to rewrite the GRE I'd suggest you start by watching Magoosh videos, then to the Manhattan 8 series, then pick up the Manhattan 5lb and solve from chapters 7-29. Magoosh videos helps with understanding and revising the basic concepts you may have forgotten, the Manhattan series gives lucid explanations on all the quant topics (and there are lots of questions to play around with), then the 5lb is just the icing on the cake; if u can solve and review all the quant questions coupled with taking some full-lenght practice tests,a perfect score shouldn't be a far cry. It's not as easy as it seems o, but u just have to keep going at it. All the best bro. PS: Whatever you do, never forget that the ETS official guide i s the bible of the GRE (read it as many times as you deem fit). |

Solonzo17: Hello good people of this thread, how can someone who is not that so good in mathematics do well in quant section .pls I need ur respond Don't even sweat it, the concepts tested in the quant section of the GRE are elementary maths concepts you can easily learn or revise. That being said, you should be concerned with mastering the art tackling the trick-filled questions. All the best with that. |

SenseiVoyles: This thread has been so enlightening and insightful. Graduated earlier this year, Petroleum Engineering (4.56/5 and top of my graduating class).Scheduled to take GRE in late August. Looking at USC, UT Austin, Penn State, LSU and my dream but probably unlikely choice Stanford(Energy Resources Engineering). How realistic are my chances of getting a fully funded masters. Had a good undergraduate thesis and worked under a Prof' s research group. Is applying to USC's Petroleum Engineering PhD program realistic without an Msc? Are there any other schools I should be looking at? If you can ace the GRE, and with excellent LORs and SOP, you'll definitely make a competitive applicant; and I think getting a straight PhD in USC is very achievable, I'd advice you get in touch with alums from the school either via LinkedIn or the visa thread so you can get first-hand info from em, mail the grad coordinator of the department too and discuss what your chances are. All the best. |

I'm quite perplexed. I'd like to apply this week. Also I'm in Lagos. Which branch is the easiest to get a passport? I'll appreciate your response. Thanks. You won't need any online reg. Go with your local govt of origin certificate, birth certificate and two copies of passport photographs. |
