Usman told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lafia that the thunder struck on Tuesday morning during a downpour killing all the 21 cows belonging to a herdsman, Malam Bature Lere. He appealed to the state Government, authorities of the Lafia East Development Area and public spirited individuals to assist Lere who lost all his cows to the thunder. “I am appealing to Gov. President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that his three-and-a-half-year imprisonment, the Nigeria’s civil war and his failed attempts to win presidential elections have taught him “important lessons about social justice.” Buhari was quoted as making this statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, while receiving the Imam of the Mosque of the Holy Prophet in Medina, Sheikh Abdul-Muhsin Muhammad Al-Qassimi, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to Garba, the president said his administration would not relent on its efforts to promote unity and peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians by ensuring fairness and social justice to all, adding that leading 180 million people of different ethnic groups is not an easy task. He said God had a purpose for bringing people from different ethnic backgrounds into one country, Nigeria. “God knows best. A population of 180 million people comprising more than 300 ethnic groups, many of them with cultural ties stronger than religion, can only co-exist peacefully in an atmosphere of social justice,” he said. The President urged Muslims and all other citizens to imbibe and practice social justice as a norm and prayed to Allah to guide his government in doing the same. “I pray that God gives us the courage to be fair to people he put in our charge so that we can enjoy his mercy,” he said. The President lauded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their efforts to create a better understanding and practice of Islam. He welcomed the visit of the imam to Nigeria, noting that it would strengthen the bond between the two countries. In his remarks, Al-Qassimi commended the peaceful co-existence of Nigerians of different faiths. He specifically hailed the president for his campaign against corruption and his victory over terrorism in the country. Just yesterday, President Buhari commended his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan for his role in the 2015 Presidential election. http://www.latestngnews.com/uncategorized/just-in-to-be-a-leader-of-millions-of-people-is-not-easy-buhari-finally-opens-up/

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has blamed failure of the immediate past government to provide equipment and supplies to the military for the spread of Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East He made the statement on Thursday at the graduation of Cadets of 63rd Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna. Osinbajo, who was the special guest at the graduation, said that the failure resulted to the death of over 20, 000 people with over two million displaced and more than 75, 000 children orphaned. He expressed regret that several billions of dollars meant for procurement of arms and ammunition to prosecute the war were cornered by few persons. “This has left the region with one of the worst humanitarian crisis,’’ he added. The VP commended the military for defeating the terrorists and for the sacrifices it made to defend the nation. He said that the fastest way for Nigeria to get out of the current recession was for militant groups in the Niger Delta to stop bombing oil pipelines. He said that the activities of the militants had adversely affected crude oil output which had dropped from 2.2 million barrels per day to below 1 million barrels per day. Osinbajo said the destruction had also affected the revenue accruing to the country by 60 per cent. While comparing the 2008/2009 recession in United States with Nigeria’s, the VP said Nigeria’s recession was caused by massive corruption, lack of saving and destruction of oil pipelines. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 133 cadets, including 17 female cadets, were for the first time awarded first degree certificates in various discipline at the occasion. One hundred and twenty seven (127) cadets were awarded master’s degree while 14 cadets bagged doctorate degree. Three prominent Nigerians, Prof. Grace Alele-Willaims, former Vice Chancellor, Uniben; Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd), ex-military Administrator of Old Oyo state and business mongul, Dr Innocent Chukwuma, were conferred with honorary doctorate degree. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that Nigerian government has no option but to face the law at the Economic Community of West African States Court of Justice. The group in a statement said Nigeria was already hopeless in the case against it by the leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu before the regional court. IPOB also said there is no remedy to appearing before the ECOWAS court. “Nigeria is an enclave where nothing works and can never work because the system has been so rigged and programmed for a catastrophic failure,” IPOB said. The group also said Nigeria is a country where mediocrity is celebrated as institutions like the federal character gives legal backing to such. Read the full statement below: “This explains why in a country that claims it has educated people a cattle herder has the temerity to even present himself for the highest office of the country knowing fully well he is not qualified for such a position and instead of making sure he is sent to prison where he belongs for breaking the law the inhabitants of this animal kingdom is celebrating a law breaker as they also celebrate thieves in Suits and Agbada. “The system has so bastardized the psych of the people to such an extent that those who are not criminal minded have no chance of a decent living. “Those who cannot break the law with impunity and bags of stolen money have no chance for justice at the court of justice. “Now you may begin to understand the attitude of the Nigerian government together with its security apparatus to the case instituted against it at the ECOWAS Court by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. “The way it works in the contraption called Nigeria is that when government intends to bring or institutes any legal action against its citizens for whatever reason, the DPP (prosecuting department under the Attorney General of the Federation or of the State as the case may be) or the Police (who in normal climes has no business with the nitty-gritty aspect of prosecution but Nigeria is far from being a normal clime ), goes shopping for a compromised officer of the law in this case a judge and hands over a prepared script to the judge to implement. http://www.latestngnews.com/uncategorized/nigeria-already-hopeless-in-the-case-against-nnamdi-kanu-ipob-speaks-up/

Troops involved in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State have alleged that they are being owed two months’ allowances by the Nigerian Army and have called on the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, to intervene. Some of the aggrieved soldiers claimed that they have not been paid their allowances for August and September. Speaking with Latestngnews, the soldiers said the non-payment of their allowances by the Army has hampered their capacity to attend to the needs of their families and has dampened morale on the battlefield. “Our allowances are usually enough to take care of our needs. But the last time we were paid was in July. I want to appeal to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Buratai for the immediate release of our allowances, though he may not know that we have not been paid. However, our morale is low. We are staking our lives in the defense of the country,” lamented a soldier. An Army officer, who also spoke anonymously, corroborated the fact of the non-payment of troops’ allowances for two months. “It is true that we are yet to be paid our allowances for two months. Things are very difficult for us, especially given the rise in prices of various items. We cannot protest because it is against the Army regulations,” he said ruefully. http://www.latestngnews.com/uncategorized/nigerian-army-owes-us-two-months-allowances-troops-fighting-boko-haram-laments/

A Professor of International Studies, John Paden, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari has some letters written by his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan requesting “off-budget funds”. Paden, made the claim in his recently-launched biography of the President titled: ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria.’ In chapter 20 of the book titled ‘Corruption and law in military procurement’ under the subheading, ‘The role of PDP leaders in the diversion of funds’, the professor explained that Buhari’s purpose of waging the current anti-corruption war was not to jail former top government officials but to retrieve stolen funds. Buhari, who recently reiterated his resolve to fight corrupt, pledged to deepen and institutionalized the crusade in the country to last beyond the life of his administration. Paden observed that the stability of Nigeria’s political system seemed to be at stake if the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, went after Jonathan or other former Presidents. He said, “Buhari had letters in his possession showing Jonathan’s requests for off-budget funds. But Buhari’s larger purpose was not to put former high-level officials in jail. “Rather, it was to retrieve stolen funds and to change the political culture of the country. “The fact that Buhari was enlisting the help of international community in the probes lent weight to the seriousness of his effort – and also meant that alleged offenders had nowhere to hide. “Would the trail lead to former President Jonathan himself? As of the early months of 2016, it appeared that the EFCC was not going after Jonathan. Nor was it going after former President Obasanjo. “The question of the stability of the entire political system seemed at stake. “In addition, a number of senior military officers, who had served as Heads of State – from Babangida to Abubakar – seemed off-limits. “Indeed, rumours swirled that if the probes went after senior officers, they might push back because they had extensive networks in the active military services. “At the same time, the knowledge such heavyweights possessed could well be traded for immunity and would help to illuminate the patterns and sources of corruption.” http://www.latestngnews.com/uncategorized/corruption-jonathan-wrote-latter-to-buhari-asking-for-asking-for-funds-outside-budget-prof-paden/
