CelebritiesOlamide101:7 Lessons From Nigeria’s Hottest Rapper On Hw To Become Your Own Boss by Toshtos(op): 8:18am On Apr 17, 2013
‘I pray to God that I make it to heaven, for going through hell, let my success shame the devil’ – Olamide (Jesu o’kola feat Aduke, YBNL, 2012)

Before I start, can we agree Nigerian rapper Olamide Adedeji (not to be confused with the Soundcity TV exec) is the hottest Nigerian rapper right now? With over 10 hit collaborations in less than a year, chart topping singles from a critically-acclaimed album, ubiquitous guest appearances and cameos; it’s safe to say he is. No?

It didn’t start this way for ‘Badoo’ though – Olamide’s early days can be traced to many years back when he was still called G-Dog and would visit veteran urban sound producer ID Cabasa’s studio in Bariga, in his secondary school uniform.

With the CODED Tunes dynasty falling apart, (9ice had just left, Lord of Ajasa left to work with K Solo for his third album, 2Phat kind of stopped making music, Reminisce and Jah Bless signed with EDGE Records), the young energetic rapper was signed and re-christened ‘Olamide’. He also signed a management deal with Toni Payne and released a premature debut album ‘Rapsodi’ in 2011, thus his journey to absolute power began.

It’s 2013 and a lot of things have changed; what we can tell you is that Olamide’s career would have gone down the drain after his debut release if he hadn’t made power moves – the kind of moves only a boss (or a boss in the making) would make. Nigerian Entertainment Today details all these in a few points below…

1. GET YOURSELF A KICK ASS MANAGER

First thing Olamide did was fire Toni Payne whom he felt wasn’t doing much for his career right after his debut album release. The two parted ways controversially when Payne reportedly accused Olamide of performing and collecting performance fees without her knowledge. Olamide was then managed by 2Phat of CODED Tunes. After parting ways with ID Cabasa, he hired the services of Tony Nwakolor. Nwakolo, a very popular 30 something-year-old manager had failed with a now defunct Yes Records years back but in the process gained a lot of experience. Olamide is currently being managed by Nwkolo’s 1805 Entertainment.

2. AVIOD BEEF AND CONTROVERSY

Even when Olamide parted with Toni Payne and eventually CODED Tunes, he kept his thoughts on the matter on the low, never speaking to the press about it. He also didn’t discuss his partying ways or throw disses at them on his songs. He also has united with other Yoruba speaking rappers especially Reminisce (who seems to be his toughest competition), Base One and others. No stories of getting drunk, knocking any girl up or being photographed while sleeping with a university student. And oh yea, he stopped dissing 9ice too.

(winner of the Peak Talent Show, season 2) and 2Kriss. He has also got for himself a new producer Mr Pheelz who is credited with giving him the new sound on his ‘YBNL’ album.

4. DO IT BIG

Why buy a 9mm gun to kill a 20 feet giant when you could buy a rocket launcher? Olamide didn’t leave any stone unturned when recording his sophomore album YBNL– sticking with a little known producer Mr Pheelz (with some help from big brother Samklef), Olamide tightened his guest appearance list, featuring the likes of A-List acts Tiwa Savage, Davido, B-List acts Kayswitch, Dammy Krane and street-appealing acts rappers Reminisce, BaseOne, Minus and Aduke.

CelebritiesPICTURES: Late Goldie Harvey Wills Property To Charity by Toshtos(op): 4:09pm On Apr 13, 2013
source: http://www.naijaolofofo.com/2013/04/pictures-late-goldie-harvey-wills.html

Goldie's properties, according to his family are going to be auctioned for "Project Alert On Violence Against Women" Charity. The deceased, Goldie Harvey was passionate about this organization that she was always fraternising with them. And now that she is no more, we learnt, she has put it in record that her property should be auctioned and the money realized should go into Project Alert’s pulse. Though, the late Nigerian artiste is gone but can never be forgotten! Her properties will be auctioned to the general public on the 1st of May 2013. The sale of her property is to raise funds for “Project Alert on Violence Against Women” NGO. Project Alert is a non-governmental women’s rights organisation set up to provide information on all forms of violence against women and render support services to female victims of violence. Project Alert is being established to play this critical role. Ideal as it may seem to affiliate Project Alert to one of the already existing women’s rights organisation, this will only succeed in further playing down the importance and seriousness of these issues. Violence against women is a cog in the wheel of this country’s development process. The public will be informed of the address of where this auction will take place as soon as possible.

Christianity EtcPope Election: Vatican Conclave Rules And Rituals by Toshtos(op): 5:59pm On Mar 13, 2013
http://www.naijaolofofo.com/2013/03/pope-election-vatican-conclave-rules.html

The election of a pope follows a series of choreographed rules and rituals that have been tweaked over the centuries - ever since the term "conclave" or "with a key" was used in the 13th century to describe the process of locking up the cardinals until they have chosen a new pope.

Here are the rules in use to elect Benedict XVI's successor, the 266th pope:

Who votes?
Only cardinals under age 80 are eligible. In this case 115 men fit the bill and will vote. Two cardinals who were eligible stayed home: The emeritus archbishop of Jakarta, Cardinal Julius Darmaatjadja, who is ill, and Scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien, who recused himself after admitting to inappropriate sexual behavior.

What is the ritual?
The conclave's first day begins with the "Pro eligendo Romano Pontificie" Mass for the election of a pope. In the afternoon, cardinals gather in the Pauline Chapel of the Apostolic Palace and file into the Sistine Chapel chanting the Litany of Saints and the Latin hymn "Veni Creator," imploring saints and the Holy Spirit to help them pick a pope.
Standing under Michelangelo's "Creation" and before his "Last Judgment," each cardinal places his hand on a book of the Gospels and pledges "with the greatest fidelity" never to reveal the details of the conclave. A meditation on the qualities needed for the next pope and the challenges ahead for the church is delivered by Maltese Cardinal Prosper Grech.
The master of liturgical celebrations then cries "Extra omnes," Latin for "all out." Everyone except the cardinals leaves and the voting can begin.

How do they vote?

Each cardinal writes his choice on a paper inscribed with the words "Eligo in summen pontificem," or "I elect as Supreme Pontiff". They approach the altar one by one and say: "I call as my witness, Christ the Lord who will be my judge, that my vote is given to the one who, before God, I think should be elected".
The folded ballot is placed on a round plate and slid into an oval silver and gold urn. In the past, a single chalice was used to hold the ballots.
But conclave changes made by Pope John Paul II in 1996 required three vessels: one for chapel ballots, another for ailing cardinals at the Vatican who can vote from their beds and the third to hold the ballots after counting.
No cardinals are expected to require the bedside voting, but all three flying saucer-shaped urns were in the Sistine Chapel regardless.
The ballots are then bound together with a needle and thread - each pierced through the word "Eligo" - and burned in the chapel stove along with a chemical to produce either black or white smoke.
Up to four rounds of voting are allowed each day after the first day, and a two-thirds majority - 77 votes - is needed.
If no one is elected after three days - by Friday afternoon - voting pauses for up to one day. Voting resumes and if no pope is elected after another seven ballots, there is another pause, and so on until about 12 days of balloting have passed.
Under norms introduced by Benedict XVI just before he resigned, the cardinals then go to a runoff of the top two vote-getters. A two-thirds majority is required; neither of the two top candidates casts a ballot in the runoff.

What happens once the Pope is elected?

Once a cardinal has been elected pope, the master of liturgical ceremonies enters the Sistine Chapel and the senior cardinal asks "Do you accept your canonical election as Supreme Pontiff?"
Assuming the cardinal says "I accept," the senior cardinal then asks: "By what name do you wish to be called?"
The master of liturgical ceremonies, Monsignor Guido Marini, then enters the information on a formal document.
At this point, white smoke pours out of the Sistine Chapel chimney and bells of St. Peters toll.
The new pope then changes into his papal white cassock, and one-by-one the cardinals approach him to swear their obedience.
In a change for this conclave, the new pope will stop and pray in the Pauline Chapel for a few minutes before emerging on the loggia of the balcony overlooking St. Peter's Square. Preceding him to the balcony is French Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the protodeacon, who announces "Habemus Papam!" Latin for "We have a pope" and then introduces him to the world in Latin.
The new pope then emerges and delivers his first public words as pope.
Famous first words
Pope John Paul II charmed the crowd of thousands on Oct 16, 1978 when he first emerged on the loggia, no easy task given his predecessor had only lived as pope for 33 days and Karol Wojtyla was the first non-Italian elected in 455 years.
Noting that he came from a far-away land - Poland - he told the crowd that he would speak in their ("our"wink language.
"If I make a mistake, you will correct me," he said to cheers.
Retired Pope Benedict XVI offered a similarly modest gesture on April 19, 2005, telling the crowd he was but a simple "humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord."

CelebritiesBanky Looks For Wizkid’s Replacement : I’m Irreplaceable - Wizkid by Toshtos(op): 4:59pm On Mar 13, 2013

Banky W is now out to find a replacement for Wizkid as the strained relationship between the two
has finally snapped. Both had been trading words on social media as it concerns their crashed business relationship. A video producer close to Banky told R on Friday that the producer had made up his mind to find a young musician to replace Wizkid “just to teach the kid a lesson”.Devastated by Wizkid’s refusal to renew management contract with Banky’s EME outfit, the America-returnee has begun scouting for someone that would create a bigger effect on the music scene than Wizkid just to make a point in the industry. “He wants people to know that he can make and unmake”.As regards unmaking though, it remains to be seen if Banky can produce another Wizkid as the young chap has also formed his own record label, Star Boy, even before he parted ways with Banky.
At a recent event in Lagos where it was expected that the two would put to rest tales of their sour
relationship, Wizkid, who surprised a lot of people by making an appearance at the album launch of
Banky as a special guest with a lady, shocked many when he refused to say anything at the album
launch. He also didn’t talk to any of his former record label mates at EME. After the album launch, Banky twitted “hello guys thanx 4 attending my album launch. Wizkid, I made u who u re 2day, although ur impact will be felt, but u re replaceable cuz am going 2 sign a better artiste dat will replace u”. Wizkid responded by saying “huh can’t get a better artiste dat will replace me, u took my loyalty 4 stupidity and I need 2 move on with life”.

Foreign AffairsObama gets second swearing-in for second term by Toshtos(op): 2:32pm On Jan 21, 2013
WASHINGTON (AP) - His second term already under way, President Barack Obama aims to set an optimistic tone when he takes the oath again to lead a divided nation seeking solutions to economic woes at home and conflict overseas.
Hundreds of thousands are expected to gather on the National Mall to witness Obama's swearing in and inaugural address Monday. The celebrations will extend across the nation's capital, including the traditional inaugural parade and a pair of glitzy formal balls.
In his inaugural address to the crowd in Washington and millions more watching on television, Obama will urge lawmakers to find common ground when they can, and preview his second term goals, including comprehensive immigration reform, stricter gun control laws, and an end to the war in Afghanistan.
"What the inauguration reminds us of is the role we have as fellow citizens in promoting a common good, even as we carry out our individual responsibilities that, the sense that there's something larger than ourselves, gives shape and meaning to our lives," Obama said, previewing his address during brief thank-you remarks to donors at a reception Sunday night.
The mood surrounding Obama's second inaugural is more subdued than it was four years ago, when the swearing in of the nation's first black president drew 1.8 million people to the Mall. Still, organizers were expecting up to 700,000 to attend Monday's events, which would make it the largest second-term inaugural in history.
The weather forecast was encouraging, to a point. High temperatures were predicted for the lower 40s during the day, with a slight chance of rain and snow showers in the afternoon and flurries later.
Security was tight across Washington, with several streets near the White House and Capitol Hill closed off. Humvees and city buses were being used to block intersections.
David Richardson of Atlanta and his two young children were among the early crowds heading to the National Mall Monday even before sunrise.
"We wanted to see history, I think, and also for the children to witness that anything is possible through hard work," Richardson said.
Wendy Davis of Rome, Ga., was one of thousands of inaugural attendees who packed Metro trains before sunrise headed for the Capitol and parade route. Davis came four years ago as well but was among the many ticketholders who couldn't get in because of the massive crowds. She was determined to get in this time.
"I thought I was early last time but I obviously wasn't early enough," she said.
The president was officially sworn-in shortly before noon on Sunday, in keeping with the Constitution's mandate that presidents begin their new term on Jan. 20. But because inaugural ceremonies are historically not held on Sundays, the public celebration was pushed to Monday, coinciding with the birthday of late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
Washington largely shelved its partisan fighting for the three days of inaugural celebrations. But pressing matters await Obama as he starts his second term, including three looming fiscal deadlines. He'll also need help from a reluctant Congress if he hopes to fulfill his promise to sign comprehensive immigration reform and tighten gun laws in the wake of last month's school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
The president and his family will begin their day at a morning church service before heading to the Capitol for the swearing-in. Obama will attend the traditional luncheon with lawmakers before joining marching bands and floats in the inaugural parade, which winds its way from Capitol Hill to the White House.
The president and first lady will then slip into formalwear for two swanky inaugural balls. That's far fewer than the 10 they attended after the 2009 inauguration, though this year's events are still expected to draw up to about 40,000 people.....READ MORE

CelebritiesCharly Boy's Message For The Year, 2013 by Toshtos(op): 7:18am On Jan 05, 2013
Charles Oputa, a.k.a. Charly Boy has joined the group of people who give New Year messages.

In his usual character, Area Fada as he's also called lampooned the government of Nigeria and also talks on other areas the masses are suffering from.

"In quiet moments like this, nothing runs through my mind than remembering all my haters, foes, enemies, friends, and those dear to me. It's New Year. Another time to make resolutions and aspire to acquire the desire we admire even if we misfired last year, we have this year to re-fire.

But can I candidly wish you a happy and prosperous New Year when our national patrimony has been cornered by thieves, gangsters, fraudsters in stacked robes! We live in a war situation, continuous Armageddon, Boko Haram bombers, poverty, insecurity, pen robbers who loot our treasures with impunity and squander the future of our youth who are morphing into anti-social scum bags.

All I can wish you this year is survival. May God help us to simplify our lives and live without cluttering it. Let's get ready for this year. God bless. CHARLYBOY, AKA, AREAFADA."

Christianity EtcPastor E.A Adeboye’s Predictions For 2013 by Toshtos(op): 1:47pm On Jan 02, 2013
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye yesterday January 1st released his annual prophesies for the year 2013.

Pastor Adeboye told his congregation at Redemption Camp that 2013 will be better than last year but explained that there could be more devastating natural disasters like flood if necessary precautionary measures are not taken soonest to avert such calamities.

According to Pastor Adeboye, before the middle of the year, many Nigerians will have reason to say hope rising, adding however, that prayers and supplication be intensified.

He told the crowd of worshippers that God spared the lives of certain individuals in the country last year because of intercessory prayers of the saints, noting “the prayers of some of you minimized death of prominent Nigerians last year, don’t stop praying.”

Speaking on the prophecies for individual Nigerians, Pastor Adeboye said, “No matter the darkness around you, your star will shine brighter.

“God says, He will speak peace to your storms; Certain individuals have been stagnated for sometimes, the reasons for your stagnation will become known, will be addressed and will be eliminated, therefore progress will follow.”

Continuing on the individual category, Pastor Adeboye said in many senses of the word, this year will be of completeness.

On the international platform, the cleric said prominent world leaders need a lot of prayers so as not to die in office. In addition, he said prominent Church leaders need prayers against planned scandals, even as he said that weather conditions may get worst, much worst, unless prayers are intensified.

But there is a cheery news when Adeboye said: “We should expect a major breakthrough in medicine this year,” concluding that nations who pass unholy laws will have a taste of divine fury.
Earlier in a brief sermon titled; “Preparing for a year of signs and wonders”, he outlined certain principles to enable one tap into heavenly reservoir of the miraculous.

According to him, this year will be a better year than the just ended one, maintaining that the principles must include praise and worship of God, putting God first before any other consideration; evangelism; control the fullness of your joy, pointing out that one who is close to God can control even the weather around him.

Adeboye was very particular about the praise of God as a veritable tool for signs and wonders, noting that one can pray, study the Bible in silence but no one can praise God in silence.
The congregation applauded when he said: “You can never praise God quietly”, stressing that praising Him comes from a heart of gratitude and it’s not quietly.

“If they say we are crazy for shouting Hallelujah in our environment and wherever we find ourselves, then that is a good kind of craziness,” he stated, adding that nobody says thank you to his benefactor with his mouth closed.

While assuring worshippers that 2013 is a year of doors, Adeboye said it is one thing to enter into a New Year and it is another to have a brand new beginning, hence he enjoined every Nigerian to live right with God who only has the capacity to give of His limitless bounties and guarantee all round peace and calm every storm in our lives.

CelebritiesMay D May Enter Into Trouble With Psqaure by Toshtos(op): 9:40pm On Oct 29, 2012
Akinmayokun May D Awodumila might be spooling for another fresh war or may be telling the world that the battle between him and the sensational twin singer, P Square is finally over as he performed
two of Paul and Peter Okoye’s songs at the Felabration 2012, New Afrika Shrine, Lagos.

Though some of the stakeholders in the industry said that, May D may or may not know what he has done what is termed plagiarism; but the tides are already heating up and soon, there may be just another messy war between him and Square Rcords barely two months after he was dropped by the label.

During his performance at the recently held Felabration 2012, at the New Afrika Shrine on Friday, October 19, the pop singer kicked off his performance with Psquare’s ‘Do as I do‘ which features Tiwa Savage and himself. He then goes on to perform his first single ‘Soundtrack‘ before following with Psquare’s ‘Chop my money‘. He didn’t stop there as he went quickly into his award winning single Soundtrack before diving headlong into Chop my Money. May D wrapped up his act with his hit single Ile Ijo. In all of P Square’s songs performed on this night, May D didn’t stick to his lines; rather, he took the entire songs from start to finish.
