Celebrities / Toyin Aimakhu Opens Up On Rumuored Affair With Seun Egbegbe by TOSLAW: 8:33am On Nov 11, 2015
Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu, has finally spoken up on rumuors making the rounds that she having an ongoing relationship with EbonyFilms CEO, Seun Egbegbe.

In a chat with BestofNollywood.tv, the sultry actress said,

“Seun Egbegbe has been my friend for over 12 years now, anyone can feel free to say what ever they want. Seun is my friend and I confide in him a great deal. If people want to judge by the pictures they see they would be misled. Everyone knows I’m a playful person by nature. And I take very suggestive pictures even more with Afeez Eniola and co than anyone else.

Contrary to speculations that I live with Seun, he stays in Ikeja and I live on the Island. I can not deny that I come to see him occasionally. What most people did not realize was that when I had my trauma, I had just very true people that stood by me. Seun Egbegbe was one of them.” she pointed out.

We do hope this would quell any more gossip about the actress who recently parted ways with her husband Adeniyi Johnson over adultery claims.

Health / 67-years-old Man Carries 6 Bags Of Cement On Stomach by TOSLAW: 7:50am On Sep 17, 2015
A 67-years-old man Abdullahi Kurma carried 6 bags of cement on his stomach to demonstrate his drug-free state of health at the commemoration of the 2013 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking in Gombe, Nigeria.

I really don’t understand how this works. Does it means carrying 120kg on ones stomach signifies he isn’t carrying drugs?

Celebrities / I Can Marry Divorcee With Kids—toni Payne by TOSLAW: 10:58am On Sep 06, 2015
Former wife of popular singer, 9ice, Toni Payne, has disclosed that if she would marry a man that has been married before with children, then his former marriage must have been dissolved by a court.

According to her, she would take care of his kids like hers.

The artiste manager said if she is given an option to choose between being a single mother or being in a polygamous home, she would take the former.

In her words, “No matter how fake some women are, don't be fooled, women are naturally jealous creatures. We don't share with an open heart so why pretend. If I met a man with children or a previous wife, I will make sure he is 100% legally divorced before accepting to date him.

“If we do decide to take it further, I'll make sure he draws very clear lines so there is no confusion and help raise his kids as mine.

“Some use religion as excuse, some use culture. It doesn't change the fact that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam, Eve, Silifa and Ngozi. My personal belief is that polygamy is a selfish act carried out by insecure men who don't know what they want and wish to have their cake too.

“If I was given the option to choose single parenthood or polygamy, I would easily choose single parenthood. I love peace, no time for drama. Anyhow, that's my way sha. I know who I am, I'm too passionate to share husband legally but I can love a man enough to love his kids 200%.

“iranu, abasha. Nothing in this life surpasses peace of mind and genuine happiness. Absolutely nothing!! When you are giving each other back rub, how does it work sef? The other one goes in her room to wait her turn? Or he hops house to house? At the end of the day, you gotta know what you can or can't accept, don't live an unhappy life just to please someone who would ask you to share. Laughs, what happens on special occasions? We will now be doing anko up and down? ko jor, laughs.”

Romance / Second Chances At Love Are The Best : What To Do Differently by TOSLAW: 11:22pm On Sep 03, 2015
When you get a second chance to make your relationship work, you want to make sure you don't make the same mistakes that caused the first try to fail. In order to really make the most of your romance repeat, you have to make sure you do things differently. We have some tips to help you make your relationship work this time around.

Leave old grudges behind.

If you want to give your relationship a second chance – and give it a fighting chance to work out this time – you can't bring past grudges and resentments with you. Any emotional baggage either of you cart back into the relationship will hamper your chances at improving on what you had. Before you agree to give things a second go, think about any lingering issues or anger you have. Can you move past whatever is still bothering you? If you don't think you can, you might not be ready to start fresh, but if you're willing to leave the past in the past, do your best to leave it there and avoid temptation to rehash old fights or open old wounds.

Focus on what does work.

Whatever you had was strong enough to warrant both of you wanting to give your love a new beginning, so to keep it going this time, focus on all the things that did work – leaving past problems out of the spotlight. The more you expand on the aspects of your relationship that were working – your ability to make each other laugh, your desire to really support each other, your love of a shared hobby – the stronger your bond will become and the happier you'll be as you give your love a new shot.

Communicate more.

Most relationships start to erode when the lines of communication close up, so if this is something you had to deal with when you and your man decided to end things, this time, make communication a top priority. Any time you feel like things are sliding off the rails or that something isn't right, don't hold it in – talk about it. The more you can be open and honest with each other, the smoother your relationship will be and the better your chances at success.

The longer you hold things in (rather than discussing them), the bigger and more frustrating they become.

Be wary of old patterns

Relationships are built on routine but not all of them are particularly useful or healthy. As you embark on this second chance at love, pay attention to whether or not you're immediately falling back into patterns and routines that brought things to a head last time. It's easy to say things will be different, but a lot of effort has to go into making that statement a reality. Falling back into old patterns that didn't work is just going to turn you against each other all over again.

Make a list of what didn't work or what you hated about the first incarnation of your relationship. Writing it out can help you notice if it happens this time so you can put a stop to it before creating too much tension…

Thanks for reading

Celebrities / Why I’m Losing My Voice-- 9ice Explains by TOSLAW: 9:51am On Apr 30, 2015
When he broke into the music scene some years ago, 'Gongo Aso' crooner, 9ice, had a voice that many of the music lovers could identify with and he was loved for it.

After the release of that song, he went on to drop other hits singles. The singer even performed before the late Nelson Mandela, when his birthday was celebrated in London.

But in recent times, 9ice has come under attacks because of his voice, which some said he is losing very fast.

Speaking on the issue, the singer blamed it on equipment in the country.

"Most of our productions are not good and most of our speakers are not good. Hear me, I am not saying the DJs or the sound managers are not good. But the equipment we have (in Nigeria) are not good."

"Get it right; in 2008, 2009 and 2010, imagine someone screaming for three years, how e no go lose him voice?

"In 2008, I was maybe 28 or 29 and now I am 35 years old. So I would definitely lose my voice and now I am a more mature person. So criticism based on those aspects, I am sure they are right. But you have to take me as I am," he explained.

Romance / 10 Relationship Tips Everyone Forgets by TOSLAW: 5:16pm On Apr 13, 2015
To be fully seen by somebody, then, and be loved anyhow – this is a human offering that can border on miraculous.”

If you’re in a relationship, intimate or platonic, that could use a little help, the tips below will come in handy…

Let go of old wounds through forgiveness.
Every moment of your life you are either growing or dying – and when you are physically healthy, it’s a choice, not fate. The art of maintaining happiness in your life and relationships relies on the fine balancing act of holding on and letting go. Yes, sometimes people you trust (including yourself) will hurt you. Being hurt is something you can’t avoid, but being continuously miserable is always a choice. Forgiveness is the remedy. You have to let go of what’s behind you before you can grasp the goodness in front of you.

2. Come clean when you make a mistake.
An honest heart is the beginning of everything that is right with this world. The most honorable people of all are not those who never make mistakes, but those who admit to them when they do, and then go on and do their best to right the wrongs they’ve made.In the

end, being honest might not always win you a lot of friends and lovers, but it will always keep the right ones in your life.

3. Stop gossiping and start communicating.
A good rule of thumb: If you can’t say it to their face, you shouldn’t say it behind their back. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, and small minds discuss people.” Life is much too short to waste talking about people, gossiping, and stirring up trouble that has no substance. If you don’t know, ask. If you don’t agree, say so. If you don’t like it, speak up. But never judge people behind their back

4. Give others the space to make their own decisions.
Stop judging others by your own past. Never act, judge, or treat people like you know them better than they know themselves. What might be good for one person may not be good for another. What might be bad for one person might change another person’s life for the better. Allow the people in your life to make their own mistakes and their own decisions.

5. Do things that make YOU happy.
If you want to awaken happiness in a relationship, start by living a life that makes you happy and then radiate your happiness into your relationship. If you want to eliminate suffering in a relationship, start by eliminating the dark and negative parts of yourself, and then radiate your positivity into your relationship. Truly, the greatest power you have in this world is the power of your own self-transformation. All the positive change you seek in any relationship starts with the one in the mirror.

6. Show your loved ones your kindness in small ways every day.
Aesop once said, “No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.” Nothing could be closer to the truth. Always be kinder than necessary. You never know what someone is going through. Sometimes you have to be kind to someone, not because they’re being nice, but because you are. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

7. Say less when less means more.
It takes some courage to stand up and speak; it takes even more courage to open your mind and listen. Pay attention and be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble. The people in your life often need a listening ear more than they need a rambling voice. And don’t listen with the intent to reply; hear what is being said with the intent to understand and you are as wise as the silence you leave behind.

8. Let your love and trust overpower your fear.
You never lose by loving; you lose by holding back. No relationship is impossible until you refuse to give it a chance. Love means giving someone the chance to hurt you, but trusting them not to. Without this trust, a relationship cannot survive. You cannot just believe what you fear from others; you have to believe in the good faith of others. If you are ever going to have someone trust you, you must feel that you can trust them too.

9. Accept, don’t expect.
Unconditional acceptance is something we want, but rarely ever give out. Remember, people never do anything that is out of character. They may do things that go against your expectations, but what people do reveals exactly who they are. Never force your expectations on people, other than the expectation that they will be exactly who they are. Who they are is not what they say or what you have come to expect, it is who they reveal themselves to be. Either you accept them as they are, or you move on without them.

10. Let the wrong ones go.
Know your worth! When you give your time to someone who doesn’t respect you, you surrender pieces of your heart you will never get back. All failed relationships hurt, but losing someone who doesn’t appreciate and respect you is actually a gain, not a loss. Some people come into your life temporarily simply to teach you something. They come and they go and they make a difference. It’s perfectly okay that they’re not in your life anymore. You now have more time to focus on the relationships that truly matter.

Afterthoughts
Remember, even the healthiest relationships have small flaws. Being too black and white about the quality and health of a relationship spells trouble. Accept the fact that there will always be difficulties present, but you can still focus on the good. Instead of constantly looking for signs of what’s not working in your relationship, what you need to do is look for signs of what is, and then use this as a solid foundation.

Your turn…
Which of these relationship tips do you sometimes struggle with? What else would you add to the list? share your thoughts.

Education / Are You Truly An Educated Person? by TOSLAW: 4:41pm On Mar 19, 2015
Over the years, Education has been prioritized as a requirement for everyone to live up to expectation in Life, especially in Africa.
image

The National policy on Education which was modified right from 1977, 1981 up till 2004 respectively was based on the advocacy of education for everyone irrespective of one’s tribe or financial status.

More so, Education is the best tool to fight poverty, slavery, corruption and others and it is considered a ”Best Legacy,”(We all know that).

However, I have closely monitored the implications of Education to people, especially Nigerian parents who are so passionate about sending their children to school inorder to acquire knowledge and to standout in any field they find themselves.

Sadly, some people leave home for school to acquire education, but as soon as they get to school they ignore the real education and rather opt for literacy skills, these set of people I am refering to don’t read to make a difference but to pass their examinations.

Before I continue, I would
like to give you the definition of ‘Education’ as defined by Dictionary before, which has got many people confused and the new definition of ‘Education’ which is more comprehensive. Recently, According to Dictionary.com.

Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university.

Latest definition of Education according to Dictionary.com:

Education is the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgement.

Hope you can dish out the difference? the formal one deals with the acquisition of basic instruction while the new one deals with the sense of reasoning and ability to make non-sentimental judgements.

Interestingly, some people who are of myopic sense of reasoning refer to some literate persons as educated not knowing that all that they know is to just read and write.

If your focus of going to school is to acquire your good grades by hook or crook so as to get good job, definitely, you are a literate not an educated person.

Literacy is ability to read and write and if your sense of reasoning is even lower than that of people who sells pepper on the street, you are still a literate. Education of today deals with superior thinking, superior behaviors with intellectual power.

And let me tell you this, education is like smoke, you can’t hide it, you do not need to tell people that you are educated before they know; it is your superior thinking, your intellectual quotient and your behaviour that will dictate your educational status, maybe you are educated or not.

Education deals with broad knowledge, which means we don’t have to limit ourselves, in one profession. If you are superb at arts, you have to do so at science and as well in other professions.

You may have degrees like thermometer or attend the best school in the world and if you still act like a social misfit, the real education is not in you.

Intriguingly, I will let you know how you can differentiate between an educated person and literate person.

Dear friend, an educated person will never utter vulgar words or share explicit contents on social media person because educated persons has been taught in school not to intrude on another persons privacy.

An educated person will never throw trash from his/her car to the street because everyone has been taught not to invade the environment with detrimental and hazardous particles.

An educated person will not empty his/her garbage in drainage/river because they are been taught that it could cause various diseases in Biology and Agricultural science.

An educated person will not see failure in a course/subject as the end of his/her life but he/she will see it as an invitation for him/her to calm downand look for what went wrong because he/she has been taught that ”For every stagnation or retrogression, there is something behind it, which has to be discovered.”

An educated person will not write to people on internet with cyber language(abbreviation form), like ”u” for ”you”, ”hapi” for ”happy”, ”gud” for ”good” because he knows he/she can never write an examination or an application letter like that.

It goes on, but let me stop there.

It’s high time we stood up to learn! This dramatic failure has to be stopped. Education is not just all about going to lecture rooms, attending lectures here and there and getting home without going through what we have learnt.

A good student will not read to pass, because you will quickly forget what you read to pass immediately the time-table has been scheduled. But what you read over and over make you a special one.

Read to make a difference, if you keep reading idiosyncrasily, without considering when examination will take place you will surely make a difference.

It is expected of every educated person to have a superior sense of reasoning to that of people who are on the street.

The way you see things, they way you dress, the way way to talk and the way you make judgement has to be positively different and academically sound.

Dear friend, as you pass out from school and I am sure you have acquired a knowledge in school, you don’t have to regurgitate it when you get to your place of work.

A well educated person will put what he/she has learnt into practise. Go for real education today, don’t go to school because you will be able to read and write so that you can communicate with people or just to get a job as quick as possible. Go to school because of broad knowledge.

That’s why many people are psychologically and emotionally disturbed today, they go to school, neglecting the real education(knowledge) and thereby going for literacy skills and their vision is to get a job after graduating from school. And if they find it difficult to get a job they will say Nigeria is a bad country.

See, if you go for real education you will have the autonomy to start a business on your own which could eradicate unemployment in Nigeria.

No wonder we have a President with PhD who cannot tackle corruption and insurgency.

Celebrities / Charly Boy's 'lies' Exposed by TOSLAW: 2:42pm On Mar 01, 2015
Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa better known as Charly Boy is often called strange and weird for his many activities and replies to questions about life. He is so strange that many are already doubting if he is a true Nigerian to the core on spirituality and s3xuality though he is a father at that.

He has recently been ‘playing’ with skulls and in nudist photos in the prayer stance to a higher being yet to be identified. He has gone to identify with strange spiritual practices and images that are often disturbing to many audience.

He has come out to say that he actually plays major of his antics because he wants people to be in awe of him. He revealed that he was a shy person and he needed to express the ‘lies’ to cover his shyness.

He said, “As a teenager, I was a prankster. I liked to do a lot of gags on people, I liked to create perceptions, I liked people to be scary and wary of me. I was also a loner and I was a very, very shy person and the way I covered my shyness was to attract attention to my person and the way I attracted was to form all kinds of imageries which were not true.”

So maybe all the Illuminati gimmicks are just stunts to be relevant in the media and eyes of the public after the ‘death’ of ‘Zoom Time’ and ‘Charly Boy Show’?

Family / Top Hidden Secrets About Marriage by TOSLAW: 7:00pm On Feb 28, 2015
Firstly, Marriage is not meant for everybody, Paul didn’t get married and Jesus didn’t get married but as it is ordained by God in Genesis 2:18 that ”It’s not good for a man to be alone.” so you have to get married willingly not forcefully and whoever finds a good wife finds favour. But I’d implore you to get married. That’s it!

I’d discuss what are the neccessary things to do when preparing for Marriage. Incase you missed the first episode of this article, you can read it HERE

Things to do when preparing for marriage are as follows!

1. Acquire knowledge:- knowledge is power and Jesus number one prescription to acquring knowledge is through reading(Mattew 19:4). You have to have the knowledge of gender difference. Eg, the reason women likes to talk too much and the reason men believes in action, they don’t talk to much. It takes knowledge to understand this gender difference. Women are emotional beings while men are logical beings. For example, when you give birth to a twins and one is a boy while the other is a girl, you will notice that, the girl’s mouth will be sharper than that of the boy. Yes! That’s how they’re being created right from the inception. Women talks while men listens. You as a man if you don’t like listening when women talk, then don’t get married because it’s part of the needs you have to meet in that lady’s life. Whether is talking nonsense, just listen to her. It’s part of her make-up as a lady. Gather many tapes as many as you can, read bible day and night and praticalize what you’ve learnt.

2. Develop Quality Relationship With God:- Before you were created in the womb, God had already knew who you would become, all you need now is to build up a good relationship with Him(Job 22:21). How can I build a good relationship with God? Read your bible idionsyncrasily and put what you read into practice. When you have a stable relationship with God, that’s when you will know God’s purpose for your life. God will reveal to you personally, who He wants you to marry, inorder for you not to mis-choose. There have been many failed marriages these days because they lack quality relationship with God, this is the right time for you to start praying fervently to God. Don’t just marry anyone you see, Hey! Choosing a life partner requires patience and voracious prayers.

3. Cultivate Acceptable Character:- I don’t care about your outward appearance, I don’t care about your beauty now, without a good character after a few time of being with your partner, that beauty will turn to ugliness. When other things falls apart, character sustains you. It is character that sustains marriage, so, it cannot fall on you like ripe cherry, it has to be cultivated. Discover the bad characters you have that are capable of destroying your marriage and tame them. Once again, tame that bad character!

4. Take Care Of Your Outward Appearance:- The reason ladies turn down men proposal these days, is because the way they dress. How can you just put on white shoes, red shirt and brown trousers to go and propose to a lady? Even if it’s your future partner, she’ll definitely turn down your proposal. So take time to learn about colour combination. Some people have became so heavenly-minded that they never bothered about the kind of clothes they put on. As a lady learn to walk like a lady, don’t walk like a man, if you want to sit, sit like a lady, don’t sit like a man and bring out the dignity and honour the Lord has placed in you. As a man, learn to talk striaght, don’t talk like a stammerer and bring out the importunate dignity in you with the way you walk. That’s it!

5. Be Domesticated:- This is one of the reasons many marriages have failed in Nigeria. Some ladies find it difficult to cook food not to talk of cooking delicious food. It is an insult on your personality if you’re married and your husband keeps neglecting your food to eat at the restaurant. Even if you have a cook at home who cooks for your husband, be careful because if care is not taken the cook will snatch your husband from you. This is the right time for you to learn how to cook, move closer to your mum when she’s cooking and ask her somethings on how you can cook different delicacies for your husband. Men, learn how to do some chores, like washing clothes, cooking and fetching water.

I would like to discuss what brings success in Marriage and Why you must do Family planning. And here is my own take on the concepts.

The success of marriage is dependent on the choice of whom you marry. The quality of your marriage can never be bigger than the persons involved in the marriage. I hear people say, when they are trying to get married; do you love me?As far I am concerned, that’s a dumb question to ask! If you want to get marriage, you don’t ask, do you love me?

You should rather ask for the proper description of his/her vision. Love without vision will end up in chaos. Any marriage that is founded without vision will end up in a disaster. When you are in a relationship, and you don’t understand the vision of the man or woman, you really have nothing being with him. If you marry someone, just because you love the person, you are most likely going to help him out of his vision. When a man is not fulfilling his personal vision, he becomes frustrated, this makes him cynical and the first person to bear the brunt is the wife.

Marriage is important, it’s a choice, but not everyone will get married. As a lady, if you choose to marry; you have lost some certain rights, because you have to be submissive to your husband. Not to any man, but your husband alone. For ladies, don’t just jump into marriage. Find out the vision of the man you want to spend the rest of your life with; what’s his world view, what’s his philosophy of life.

Try this; you would be shocked what some guys will tell you, behind the suit that he is wearing. If you don’t ask him now, when you get married, you can’t ask him. The outcome of such disaster would be divorce and that a heavy burden to bear. Why not find out now, instead of postponing the evil days?

Family Planning

Family is the smallest unit of society and by implication, the most important unit of society. Whatever happens to it bleeds into society. Most families are under stress because of improper planning, once you have failed to plan, you have planned to fail. Planning is the arrangement of facts, because you don’t fail with facts.

Most families are under-stress because they lack planning. Family planning, for me, is to help position singles to align themselves with the steps that creates successful and blissful family life.

Firstly, before you get married, decide how many children you want to give birth to. Do not say, leave it to God; you have to decide it before marriage. Some people think giving birth to children is an achievement, there is no achievement there, it is only proof that you had s*x.

Any one congratulating you that you gave birth to more children is only welcoming you to further responsibility. Don’t get me wrong, children are important and are a gift from God, but giving birth to children you can take care of is only an achievement when you can raise them to become great in life. Any man who gives birth to children he can’t take care of, is simply a sperm donor.

The problem of this world is a result of people, people who are children of irresponsible parents. Some families have fallen under stress, because they were looking for a male child. So instead of two kids, they end of giving birth to eight children, some even marry other wives, in search of a male child. It is important to note that it is not a male child that sustains your name; it’s your brain child!

In this day and age, people pray for a brain child, it could be a male or a female child. I have seen male children who have become armed robbers and kidnapers, who would want to be associated with such children? The bottom line is to decide how many children you want, both partners must comply with the decision, irrespective of the outcome of the s*xes of the children.

Popularly called Agbalumo, Udara, and Otien in some parts of Nigeria, the African cherry fruit has lots of health benefits that will surprise anyone!

The exotic fruit which has a chewable edible skin that ranges in color from green to orange, depending on the stage of ripeness. The tender, sweet inner flesh is off-white with seeds making the inner to look like a star-shaped fruit. This obviously shows where it got the nickname ‘star apple’. purple and white and has a star shape formed by seeds through the middle of the fruit. The beautiful fruit can be gotten mostly everywhere in Nigeria towards the end of November till later in March when it would have gone out of season.

According to NurseRita, here are a few out of the countless benefits of African Cherry:

Vitamins and Minerals
Star apples serve as a good source of calcium, with each serving providing you with 10 percent of the amount you require each day. The calcium lends strength to your bones and teeth, and it may also lessen symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, such as cramping and abdominal bloating. This fruit also contains 5 percent of the daily recommended value per serving of vitamin C and vitamin A. Additionally, one serving of star apples serves up 2 percent of the iron, a mineral vital for oxygenating your body, that you need every day.

Helps Diabetic conditions
Star apples may have particular benefits for diabetics. Research published in the September 2009 edition of the “African Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology” indicates that the leaves of this fruit may reduce glucose levels in diabetic rabbits, the same function that insulin serves. Take note, however, that consuming star apple leaves appears to have a toxic affect when eaten in large quantities. More research is needed to determine the effectiveness of star apple leaves to control diabetes in humans.

Medicinal Uses
The star apple is a folk remedy in several countries, although no research exists to confirm these uses. The seeds of this fruit may be useful to reduce fevers and treat diarrhea. Some people also eat this fruit to reduce the inflammation associated with laryngitis and pneumonia. Other uses, including treatment for hypertension, tooth abscesses, heart problems, intestinal issues and cancer exist, but do not eat star apple for any medical condition without first consulting your physician.

Helps You Lose Weight
Eating a serving of star apple contributes 3 g of fiber to the recommended daily intake of 25 to 38 g. Fiber provides bulk to your diet, a factor that can make your stomach feel fuller for longer. This can keep you from eating too much, and it may help you lose weight. This nutrient can also help protect you from diabetes and some forms of cancer.

All-Round Basic Nutrition
1-cup serving of fresh star apple contains 67 calories. Eating star apple as a snack is a good choice as the calories are low and it provides no fat; however, this may not be enough calories to ease hunger pains and boost energy levels, as between-meal snack are meant to do. The Diet Channel notes that 100 to 200 calories per snack is best; consider eating an oz. of cheese or a tsp. of peanut butter to boost the number of calories into this range. One serving of star apple also has 15 g of carbohydrates, or 11.5 percent of the 130 g suggested for daily consumption by the Institute of Medicine.

Travel / UK Suspends £3,000 Visa Bond by TOSLAW: 6:59pm On Nov 01, 2013
United Kingdom has suspended its plan to impose 3,000 pounds visa bond on first time visitors from Nigeria.

It could not be confirmed if it has also suspended the policy in five other Commonwealth countries considered to be sources of “high risk” tourists to the UK.

The countries, where the country had, in June, proposed to implement the plan starting from November are Nigeria, India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

An official, who spoke on condition of anonymity with our correspondent on Friday, said there had been no official communication from the home country on the visa bond which almost generated a diplomatic row between UK on one hand and the affected countries on the other hand.

He said, “We have not received any directive on the visa bond. This is an issue the two countries (Nigeria and UK) have approached through diplomacy.

“The policy cannot be implemented now because there is no official communication on it.”

Politics / Baraje, atiku, amaechi — Why We Are Taking Over PDP by TOSLAW: 1:35pm On Sep 01, 2013
Below is the full text of a speech by the new factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, at a press conference in Abuja where a new faction of the ruling party was unveiled.

We address you today as leaders of PDP, who are worried by the increasing repression, restrictions of freedom of association, arbitrary suspension of members and other such violations of democratic principles by a faction of our party led by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur .

While we have done everything humanly possible to bring to the attention of critical stakeholders within the party the dangers inherent in the course being charted by that leadership, it has become very clear that the desperate permutations towards 2015 general elections have blinded certain people from the consequences of their actions.

Not only has the constitution of the party been serially abused by Alhaji Tukur and his fellow travelers, all the organs of the party have been rendered virtually ineffectual by a few people who act as though above the law. Unfortunately, it is obvious that that they get encouragement from the presidency whose old calculations are geared towards shutting out any real or imagined opposition ahead of the party’s presidential primaries for the 2015 elections.

As leaders of our great party, we consider it a sacred responsibility to save the PDP from the antics of a few desperadoes who have no democratic temperament and are therefore bent on hijacking the party for selfish ends. While the list of their violations of the tenets of our great party is long, we will highlight just a few: The National Executive Committee of the PDP at its belated meeting of 20June 2013 approved 20 July2013 for the conduct of a special national convention.

However, that date was changed to August 31 without reverting to NEC ( the only authority vested with such powers) by a few people, apparently acting on the authority of the presidency. Notwithstanding the fact that INEC had noted that the PDP congresses in nine states were not properly conducted, the illegal delegates from such states are being paraded at the so-called convention being held today in a cynical attempt to circumvent the law and further bring the name of the party to disrepute.

In gross violation of the PDP constitution which stipulates that the NEC meeting must hold at least once in a quarter, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and a few people have been running the party like a personal fiefdom without recourse to that important decision-making organ of the party. The NEC of the party accepted the resignation of the former members of the NWC whose offices were affected by INEC observations based principally on the agreement that the affected officers would be returned to their respective offices at the convention.

However, against the decision of the NEC. And in a not-so-clever bid to exclude some perceived opponents of the few powerful members who are trying to hijack the party, these positions have been made Open to some Yes-men within the party.

Notwithstanding INEC instance that Senator Any Uba is the duly elected candidate of the party in Anambra State and against the background that he is so recognized by majority of our party members, the Bamanga Tukur-led Executives announced a purported suspension of Senator Uba and some other members close to him in defiance of subsisting court orders.

Despite that the PDP Constitution is very clear that the state chapter of the party cannot discipline a national officer, the Deputy National Chairman, Mr. Sam Jaja, has reportedly been dismissed by some renegades who have hijacked the Rivers State chapter of our party with the connivance of the Bamanga Tukur leadership.

The persistent change in the list of the party’s delegates in many states as part of a deliberate attempt to rig the party’s nomination of candidates, especially at the presidential and gubernatorial levels, with a view to foisting on the PDP some unpopular candidates who are bound to lose at the polls. The suspension without due process of the Governors of Rivers and Sokoto states.

Even when the illegal suspension on Sokoto State Governor has been lifted, the Rivers Governor remains purportedly suspended for no just cause. The illegal dissolution of the Adamawa State chapter of the party is a clear abuse of power by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur thus causing confusion in his home state.

Given the foregoing, it is very clear that the Bamanga Tukur leadership cannot guarantee for our millions of party members democracy anchored on free choice and the rule of law. We have therefore taken it upon ourselves to rescue the party from their int and dictatorial leadership. It is indeed noteworthy that from 1999 to date, Nigerians have constantly voted the presidential candidates presented by our great party but not only dies such trust come wig enormous responsibility, we recognize that wee cannot continue to take the people f granted.

From now, the new leadership of the party under us will strive to build a fairer as well as a more transparent and accountable PDP that will putty interest of members and indeed all the people of Nigeria above that of one single individual.

For all the members of our great party who may have become disillusioned by the anti-democratic tendencies of the Bamanga Tukur’s leadership, there is a new lease of life in the horizon. It’s a new day for the Peoples Democratic Party. As we take over the leadership of the PDP, our immediate priority is to revive the culture of robust debate of all contending issues while providing a level-playing field for all our members.

These were the ideals that differentiated our party from others and endeared us to Nigerians. We are not, and have never been a political party where one man would be taking decisions for all members and where once you do not kowtow before the presidency, you are deemed a rebel that must be crushed. That is no the PDP bequeathed to us by our founding fathers. That, I dare say, is no longer what PDP under our leadership will represent from today.

Politics / ONDO STATE ELECTION: Mimiko, Others Know Fate Tomorrow by TOSLAW: 4:11pm On Aug 28, 2013
The Supreme Court, yesterday, slated tomorrow (Thursday) to deliver judgment on two separate appeals seeking to sack Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State from office.

A seven-man panel of justices of the apex court, led by Justice Walter Onnoghen, fixed the date after they heard reasons from candidates of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the August 27, 2012 election, Chief Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olusola Oke, on why the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should be compelled to conduct a fresh election in Ondo State.

Sequel to an application by counsel to Governor Mimiko, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, the Supreme Court struck out the name of ACN from the matter on the premise that it had gone into extinction, having been subsumed into the newly registered All Progressives Congress, APC.

After the case was called up for hearing yesterday, Olanipekun, relying on the provision of Order 8 Rule 9 sub Rule 2 of the apex court procedure rules, as well as on section 124(1) of the Evidence Act, urged the court to take judicial notice that the second appellant in the matter, ACN, “is dead”.

“It is a notorious fact that the second appellant has become extinct, it is dead! There is no political party in Nigeria today known as ACN. We urge your lordships, pursuant to the rules of this court, to strike out the name of the second appellant from this matter,” Olanipekun submitted.

Similarly, counsel to the Labour Party, Mr Yusuf Ali, SAN, and that of INEC, Mr Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, maintained that ACN threw away its right of appeal when it decided to discard its identity and enter into merger to become APC.

Though counsel to the defunct ACN, Mr Wole Aina, initially insisted that the respondents failed to adduce any evidence with which to convince the court that the party was no longer in existence, he, however, subsequently pleaded the apex court panel to use APC and substitute the name of his client in the appeal, a prayer that was refused.

INEC further relied on the provisions of paragraph 14(1) (2) of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, amended, and contended that ACN cannot be substituted with APC, noting that such action would amount to an amendment of the main appeal.

Counsel to the ACN, Aina, insisted that Section 97 of the Electoral Act and Section 109(1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution, allowed a person elected under merged political parties to still retain his seat, saying such right should inure to his client in the instant case. In their ruling, the apex court panel refused the application for substitution.

According to Justice Onnoghen, “We have carefully gone through the provision of the sections of the constitution and schedule cited by parties; we are of the view that reliance of the appellant on Section 109(1) (g) and 97 of the Electoral Act does not avail to the appellant as the section deals with candidates in an election and not the party.”

Keisuke Yamada is a self-taught Japanese artist who takes plain bananas and turns them into edible masterpieces. Using only a spoon and toothpicks the talented food artist works against the clock, trying to finish his pieces before the fruit begins to oxidize.

Sculpting bananas is not easy. The fragile texture of the fruit and the fact that you can’t add more material to cover up a mistake like you would with clay makes it a very difficult material to work with. And that’s exactly what makes 26-year-old Keisuke Yamada’s art so special. It all began little over two years ago when he peeled a banana and thought it would be interesting to carve something into it. His first creation was a simple smiling face, but he received such a positive reaction from art fans that he felt inspired to pursue the idea further.

Using only a spoon to prime the banana by smoothing its surface and toothpicks for carving its flesh, Keisuke created an entire series of banana sculptures that won him international acclaim after the photos he uploaded to Japanese art site, Pixiv, went viral. In his interviews with some of the largest sites in the world, Yamada revealed he works as an electrician by day, and becomes an expert banana carver during the night. He described the artistic process as a race against time, trying to finish his creations in less than 30 minutes after the peeled banana has been exposed to air. Taking too long causes the fruit to turn brown, ruining the whole piece. Once he’s finished, he quickly takes a photo after which he eats the banana.

Celebrities / Wizkid Reacts To J-martins Allegedly Blasting Him Over Calling A Fan Broke by TOSLAW: 5:07am On Aug 27, 2013
A few weeks ago, WizKid made a comment on his instagram page reacting to a diss from a fan on his photo. The comment made headlines all over twitter and caused a lot of people to react negatively towards him.

Just yesterday, VanguardNGR reported that J-martins had blasted WizKid over the comment he made to the fan in question. Here is what VanguardNGR reported that J-martins said:

I’m not taking any side, don’t mean no beef, no disrespect, and no hate but let the truth be told. I don’t believe because you feel you have a few change you didn’t have a few years ago and which you cannot guarantee having in a few years to come then you wake up and look at those people who have cheered you up, loved you, supported your music, bought your CD’s, prayed for you, just because you can lay your hands on some phone and you call them ‘poor’. Am not in and will never be in support of anyone who has such bad attitude.
“It needs to be corrected, we owe our fans the duty of being good examples that’s why they hold us in high esteem, that’s why you are a role model and if you know you cannot be a good role model you have no business in Music. You don’t know if it’s that person that might help you tomorrow, whoever does that should be checked.

“You have to decide why you are in the music industry. If you know you cannot be a role model then you have no business being there”
WizKid took to twitter not too long ago to defend himself and also state that he’s disappointed in J-Martins for making such a statement.
