After settling in and downing a couple of bottles of booze, a fight ensued between Elikem and Angelo’s sweetheart Beverly. The Nigerian lingerie model expressed her disappointment at Elikem for not comforting her when Angelo was evicted last night. “I really didn’t take kindly to the fact that you didn’t even have the decency to come to me to try and comfort me after Angelo was evicted,” the Nigerian said. Last week, Elikem was Head of House and saved himself from the eviction gallows and put Angelo up in his place instead. Could Beverly still be harbouring anger or resentment towards Elikem after the Swap? Beverly says no. Elikem on the other hand told Beverly “I wanted to give you time to process your feelings on your own. I didn’t want to be all up in your face. However, as much as you love Angelo, you came here alone. “It’s okay to be affected by his Eviction because you are super close to him. He was your best friend in this House. However, I feel you need to appreciate the fact that you are in the Top 5. “You are here to represent yourself, your family, your country and the continent. Now that he is gone, he will go out there and push for you because you are in the Top 5. “I’ve also lost people I was close to in this game. Pokello and Selly,” the Ghanaian said. When Beverly told Elikem “Our relationship with Angelo was not the same as yours and Pokello’s,” Elikem told her “Who says it was not the same? “The only difference is that you and Angelo called it dating, while me and Pokello chose not to label it. We did everything you did and talked about everything you did. “I’m sure our relationship went even deeper,” he said. Dillish, who was quiet during the whole episode then stepped up and told the two “this is really spoiling the mood guys. Just drop it,” which they did. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/bbathechase-beverly-and-elikem-fight-over-angelos-eviction/

Barely one year after May D left Square Records managed by Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square music group and Jude Okoye, who is their elder brother and manager, the label has now signed another artiste, this time, a female singer named Cynthia Morgan. This development was announced and confirmed yesterday by Jude via twitter. P-Square had not hidden their love for Cynthia, who they described as a good artiste. In 2011, while speaking on a radio show on Beat FM, Lagos with Toolz, the group expressed their love for the talent of Cynthia Morgan, who they regretted wasn't in their then Invasion album released in August 2011. They then promised to include her in their next album. "It's official, Cynthia Morgan now first lady, Northside Music Inc," Jude wrote on the social media platform. Since May D left the label last year, they have not signed any artiste until now. May D was the first artiste signed by the label and the union didn't last long. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/p-square-signs-cynthia-morgan-1-year-after-may-ds-departure/

Western Union has partnered with an African payment processing specialist, eTranzact, to launch a mobile money service in Nigeria. The US-based company believes the facility will help boost financial inclusion and provide a more convenient means of money transfer for Nigerians, and the entire Africa. Nigeria mobile phone penetration rate stands at 70.64 percent, as of June 2013, according to figures provided by Informa’s World Cellular Information Service. In contrast, just 21 percent of the country’s population has a bank account, according to the World Bank. The financial service company hopes to bridge this divide by providing users with a mobile platform to pay bills, purchase merchandizes online, top up mobile credit and make third party transfers. “We are very pleased to launch our new relationship with eTranzact to increase the number of access points for consumers to use our services worldwide, facilitate financial inclusion, and provide convenient mobile solutions for those who want new methods for money transfer transactions,” said Aida Diarra, Vice President for North, Central and West Africa at Western Union. The global money transfer service embarked on a recent multichannel approach, after being criticized by stakeholders for it’s over reliance on an agent model in providing financial services. Amongst its recent strategies is the partnership with eTranzact: the collaboration allows customers of the eTranzact Mobile Money platform, PocketMoni, to interact with Western Union on their mobile phones, receiving Western Union mobile money transfer from 23 ‘sender’ countries around the world. “We are excited to work with Western Union and leverage the power of their global network on behalf of consumers across Nigeria,” said Valentine Obi, chief executive at eTranzact. PocketMoni is a mobile payment solution designed to allow users conduct financial transactions anytime, anywhere, from your phone. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/western-union-launches-mobile-money-service-in-nigeria/

Former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo said the country may have been cursed with poor and irresponsible leaders. Speaking yesterday, while giving a keynote address at the 4th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit organised by Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, in collaboration with African Sustainable Development Network, Obasanjo said if Nigerians were yet to commend a leader after 53 years of independence, “Then we are jinxed and cursed; we should all go to hell.” Condemning the younger generation of leaders in the country, Obasanjo said they lack integrity and probity and have failed their people woefully. The former president didn’t talk without giving examples as he made reference to his Vice President for eight years, Atiku Abubakar; former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu; former Speaker, House of Representatives, Salisu Buhari; former Bayelsa State Governor, Deprieye Alamieyeseigha; and others as younger generation of leaders Nigeria was unlucky to have. “We had some people who were under 50years in leadership positions. One of them was James Ibori, where is he today? One of them was Alamieyeseigha, where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today? “The youngest was the Speaker, (Salisu) Buhari; you can still recall what happened to him. You said Bola Tinubu is your master. What Buhari did was not anything worse than what Bola Tinubu did. “We got them impeached. But in this part of the world some people covered up the other man. The man claimed he went to Government College, Ibadan but the governor (Oyo State) went to Government College and packed all the documents so that they would not know that he did not go there. “I wanted someone who would succeed me so I took Atiku. Within a year, I started seeing the type of man Atiku is. And you want me to get him there? “I once went to Tanzania because Julius Nyerere recognised Biafra. He told me not to mind his aides and others in government. They would say they have one house in town but their five year old sons and daughters would have houses all over. “Some of you who are condemning the leadership would get there tomorrow and it will be a different story. Only very few are actually good. “Abacha, my predecessor got $750m. Through our lawyer in Switzerland we recovered $1.25bn and the lawyer still said there is probably still another $1bn to be recovered. In 1979 we had 20 new ships specially built for Nigeria. When I came back 20 years after, the national shipping line had liquidated. “The whole thing is not just about leadership. If we talk about good leadership you should also talk about good followers. If you talk about human right you should also talk about human duties and obligations. “It is sad that after 53 years of independence we have no leader that we can commend. The problem in Africa is that when one person takes over he would not see any good thing that his predecessor did. Let us condemn but with caution,” Obasanjo said. The former president also expressed concern over the high level of youth unemployment and the general insecurity in Nigeria, calling for concerted efforts to tackle youth unemployment. “The vulnerability we are all exposed to because of having millions of unemployed people can only worsen when the problem is treated with neglect. “The Nigerian state is currently beset by myriad of security, economic, environmental and social challenges. “The issue of security is most pervasive not only in terms of Boko Haram, but also in terms of armed robbery, kidnapping, corruption, flood, erosion, drug and human trafficking,” he said. Speaking further, Obasanjo who frowned at the incessant killing in the country said efforts to restore peace in the country must be sustained. “Without adequate mechanism to restore peace, the country risks losing more lives and property and in particular the goal of sustainable development would be out of reach,” he added. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/obasanjo-nigeria-is-cursed/ |
Nigeria’s John Mikel Obi out of South Africa friendly August 13, 2013 - SPORT - Tagged: John Mikel Obi, nigeria, South Africa - no comments inShare _69263835_mikel John Mikel Obi has withdrawn from the Nigeria squad that will face South Africa on Wednesday in the Mandela Challenge friendly in Durban. The Chelsea midfielder is suffering form a stomach bug and his club doctors wrote to the Nigeria Football federation asking for the player to be excused. Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi obliged, saying he does not want to push Mikel too much because of the 7 September World Cup qualifier against Malawi in Calabar. All the other 19 players are already in Durban for the game, including Mikel’s Chelsea team-mate, Victor Moses. Egypt have also been hit by a withdrawal ahead of their friendly against Uganda , with Ahmed Elmohamady unfit to play. Pharaohs’ coach Bob Bradley said the Hull City winger is out of the 14 August game in El Gouna having suffered an injury in his club’s 3-0 win over Spanish side Real Betis in a friendly last Saturday. “We have now recalled Enppi’s Ahmed Sobhi to replace Elmohamady,” said Bradley. Bradley has also ruled out Al Ahly and Zamalek players from the game because of crucial encounters over the weekend in the African Champions League Group stage. Both teams have just one point after two rounds and need to win their upcoming games to revive their hopes. However, Ahly’s goalkeeper Mossad Awad who is not eligible to play in Africa and suspended Hossam Ashour, Ahmed Fathi and Zamalek’s defender Mahmoud Fathallah have joined the team camp. Uganda Cranes, who are preparing to face Senegal next month in a crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier, arrived in El Gouna on Sunday. The match is being hosted in the coastal town of El Gouna , 430km from Cairo, because of the political unrest and security issues in the capital. The Pharaohs are also through to the next round of World Cup qualifiers after picking up 15 points in Group G, while second placed Guinea have 10 points. The Guineans travel to Blida next week to meet Algeria – the third team assured of a qualifying play-off place. First-choice goalkeeper Dennis Onyango, who recently joined Bidvest Wits University on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, is among the foreign-based players who have made the trip. “This is a very important friendly because it’s against a giant side,” said Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic whose team last week improved to 77th place in the latest Fifa rankings. Ivory Coast welcome Didier Drogba back to their squad for the first time since the Africa Cup of Nations. The 35-year-old striker is in Sabri Lamouchi’s 23-man squad for their meeting with Mexico on 14 August. But Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure will not play in the match – he was named in the squad but has not made the trip to New York. The Elephants are one of three teams already through to the play-offs, with one game left to play in the second round, which concludes between 6 and 10 September. The 2012 Nations Cup champions Zambia – who lie second in their qualifying group behind Ghana – play Senegal in Paris on Wednesday. Malawi, meanwhile, play Rwanda in Kigali, with the Flames preparing for a decisive qualifier against the Super Eagles. Friendly games to be played on 14 August: Rwanda v Malawi Egypt v Uganda Libya v Central African Republic Turkey v Ghana South Africa v Nigeria Tunisia v Congo Morocco v Burkina Faso Zambia v Senegal Gabon v Cape Verde Islands Algeria v Guinea Mexico v Ivory Coast On 17 August: South Africa v Burkina Faso http://www.naijaolofofo.com/nigerias-john-mikel-obi-out-of-south-africa-friendly/

Did you know the left boob is usually bigger than the right boob? Meet amazing fact about people’s favorite part of the body, the boobs! World’s biggest boob job are a size 38KKK In early 2009, Sheyla Hershey of Brazil was awarded the Guinness World Record for having the largest set of breasts. After nine surgeries and more than a gallon of silicone, her breasts are a size 38KKK. Norma Stitz, the lady from pic 8, has the world’s biggest natural boobs. There is a NGO that fights for women’s right to be topless GoTopless.org is an US organization which claims that women have the same constitutional right to be bare chested in public places as men. They often promote (topless) gatherings to claim for their rights. The left breast is usually larger No two breasts are exactly the same size, and it is usually your left breast that is bigger than the right side. However, often the difference is so slight you’d never notice they are of different sizes. Nipples also come in varying sizes, not only that, they also point in different directions. Breasts are the first thing men notice in a woman No news here. Research conducted at the Victoria University of Wellington showed that breasts are often the first thing men look at, and for a longer time than other body parts. Nothing to be ashamed of since another study said that staring at women’s breasts for just minutes a day can improve a man’s health and add four to five years to his life. Men can lactate too It’s exceptionally rare, but since men possess mammary glands just like women do, they have the capacity to produce milk. When male lactation happens, it’s usually because of hormonal treatments for diseases like cancer. England is the country with biggest breasts in Europe A survey made by bra maker Triumph found that British women have the biggest boobs in Europe. More than half of women in that country wear a size D cup. Denmark scored second while Holland was third. On the other hand, Italian women had the smallest breasts where 68 percent had a size B. The average breast weighs one pound The average breast weighs about 0.5 kilograms (1.1 lb). Each breast contributes to about 4-5% of the body fat and thus 1% of the total body weight of an average woman. Breasts get fat In your 20s, your boobs are made up of fat, milk glands and collagen — the connective tissue that keeps them firm. But as you age, the glands and collagen shrink and are replaced by more and more fat. Instead of making your bra size go up, however, the added flab can send breasts down, closer to the floor, if you catch our drift. (Link) Breasts augmentation may lead to suicide Women who get breast implants are at least three times more likely to commit suicide, a risk that increases with time. As the August 2007 Annals of Plastic Surgery reported, it’s unlikely that silicone toxicity causes the correlation. It’s more probable that women who undergo breast augmentation are more apt to have an underlying psychiatric problem that predisposes them to suicide. Breasts implants can also save you from death Big breasts miraculously saved an Israeli woman from death at the hands of a Lebanese paramilitary organization. The incident occurred during a Hezbollah rocket attack. The victim got a boob job two years ago. During the war, she was wounded in the chest by shrapnel but survived because of her implants. While the patient is fine, the implant, unfortunately, did not survive. Breasts implants are the number one cosmetic surgery in the US Two million women in the United States have breast implants. It’s number one cosmetic procedure requested by women, topping rhinoplasty and liposuction. The average age at which a woman gets implants is thirty-four. In China, you can major in Bra Studies In Hong Kong, you can get a degree in Bra Studies from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University where they teach you how to design and build a bra. The US Government is determined to ease the visa application process for Nigerian applicants, according to a statement by the US Consul-General, Mr. Jeffery Hawkins on August 7. The statement was included in a paper he presented at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, on US and Nigeria bilateral relationship. The change, as Mr. Hawkins stated, is part of the government’s effort to strengthen “people-to-people” relationships between the two countries. Accordingly, the consulate has increased staff members and installed new equipment in order to facilitate and fasten US visa application processing for Nigerian applicants. “My goal is to make visa application process painless and pleasant for Nigerians,” said Mr. Hawkins, “I am happy to say that the waiting time for Non-Immigrant Visa appointment is now just a fraction of what it once was.” “We can always improve; but I am proud of the work we have done to serve our Nigeria visa applicants,” he added. Hawkins said that the US government would continue to maintain its bilateral relationship with Nigeria in the coming years. Giving more details, the envoy said that the US government had proposed an arrangement to invite a “very special set of Nigerian guests” to the US in 2014. THE WAEC on Wednesday released the full results of 1,543,683 candidates who sat for its May/June 2013 Secondary School Certificate Examination. The number represents 91.38 per cent of 1,689,188 candidates who registered for the examination,. The Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Dr Charles Eguridu, announced the results on Wednesday when he addressed a news conference in Lagos. Eguridu said 889,636 candidates obtained six credits and above, while 1,074,065 others obtained five credits and above. According to him, the results of 145,505 others, representing 8.62 per cent, were being processed due to some errors. “These errors are traceable to the candidates as well as their schools in the course of registration or writing the examination.’’ The HNO explained that such errors were being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates to get their results fully processed and released subsequently. Eguridu disclosed that the council cancelled the result of 2,176 candidates. He explained that the cancellation was due to multiple entries by the candidates discovered while processing the results. “In line with the council’s regulation, the entire results of such candidates who have been found guilty of this act had been cancelled, “ he said. The HNO also said 112,865 results of candidates, representing 6.75 per cent, were withheld due to examination malpractice. Eguridu pointed out that the cases were being investigated and that reports of the investigations would be presented to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) for consideration. Further breakdown revealed that 1,225,591 candidates obtained credits and above in four subjects, 1,353,273 obtained credits and above in three subjects, while 1,465,581 obtained credits and above in two subjects. Eguridu said that of the 121 blind candidates, 117 attempted it while 24 obtained five credits in five subjects including English Language. “Blind candidates do not take Mathematics and Science Practical in WASSCE diets“, he said. He hailed security agencies for providing the much needed security throughout the conduct of the examination. The HNO said that despite the security challenge in the country, especially in some parts of the North-East, the council was able to conduct the examination. “We thank the Federal government and security agencies particularly in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States for the support rendered the council during the conduct of our examination. “We equally commend the Federal and State Ministries of Education for their support in terms of their facilities and logistics given to us during the conduct of the examination.’’ He decried the murder of three of the council’s personnel by gunmen while on their way from Yola to Maiduguri. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that candidates can check their results online on the council’s website within 24 hours of the declaration of the results. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/waec-releases-mayjune-2013-examination-results/

Usain Bolt says it is “very important” he regains the 100m title at the World Championships in Moscow, which start this weekend. The 26-year-old won the title in Berlin in 2009 but was disqualified in Daegu in 2011 for a false start, allowing compatriot Yohan Blake to take gold. “Of course it’s very important [to win back the title],” said Bolt. “Right now I’m in good shape, focused, feeling well, training hard and I’m ready.” The Jamaican is overwhelming favourite to not only regain gold in the 100m, but also retain his 200m title – particularly with a number of his usual rivals not competing in Moscow. Blake will not get an opportunity to defend his 100m title after he withdrew from the championships with a hamstring injury. Former world champion Tyson Gay and Jamaica’s ex-100m world record holder Asafa Powell both failed drug tests in July, and have opted to miss the event in the Russian capital. And although Bolt was beaten by American Justin Gatlin in June at the Diamond League meeting in Rome, Bolt recorded the quickest 100m time this year – 9.85 seconds – at the Anniversary Games. The six-time gold medallist has also posted of this year’s fastest time in the 200m after running 19.73 seconds in Paris in July. “I want to keep winning every race that I compete in and the 100m and 200m finals in Moscow will be the biggest races for me this year,” added Bolt. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/bolt-ready-to-regain-100m-title/

Fayose at PDP headquarters, vows to contest 2014 Ekiti governorship poll August 1, 2013 - NEWS - Tagged: Fayose - 1 comment inShare1 Ayo-Fayose-201x300Ignore him, Police Affairs minister tells Ekiti people. A former governor of Ekiti State and governorship aspirant, Ayo Fayose, said on Thursday that he would proceed with his plan to contest the 2014 governorship election in the state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, despite plots by some members of the state chapter of the party to frustrate him. He stated this in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with the national leadership of the party led by its national chairman, Bamanga Tukur. Mr. Fayose also challenged the Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, another governorship aspirant on the party’s platform, to allow the conduct of transparent primaries for the members to make their choice. He alleged that there were members of the party who were desperate to stop him from going into the race, adding that they plotted his suspension, which he said was effected without trying him first. Mr. Fayose’s suspension from the party was announced earlier in the week by the Ekiti State chairman of the PDP. The former governor said some members of the state executive committee of PDP, including its chairman, who led some of the party faithful to meet with Mr. Tukur last week, were conniving with Mr. Olubolade to impose him (Olubolade) as the consensus candidate of the party in the state. He said that his opponents were jittery about his entry into the governorship race, and boasted that in a free and fair contest, he would defeat his opponents no matter the number of times it was conducted. Mr Fayose alleged that leadership of the party in Ekiti State were capitalising on the advice of President Goodluck Jonathan for members to go for consensus candidate, if it is agreeable to all the candidates, in order to reduce friction in the party. “The genesis of the crisis was as a result of the advice of Mr. President on a possible understanding of emergence of a consensus gubernatorial candidate if practicable. This has become a source of extortion leading to compromise of the state chairman and some exco members,” the former governor said in a petition he presented to the PDP national leadership which he made available to journalists. “This and other issues pitched members of the State Working Committee, SWC, against others as a result of a generation of a list of undemocratic consensus committee aimed at producing a particular candidate without the input of relevant stakeholders. “It is noteworthy that all those actions not only negates the constitution but capable of destroying the party. I have since rejected the composition of the so-called consensus committee and promised to hold on to the constitution that guarantees my aspiration. “I wish to state that Makanjuola Ogundipe (state party chairman) has collected a non-refundable deposit fee of N2 million from at least 13 aspirants and yet want to force a consensus arrangement on the aspirants after the collection of non-refundable fees. On what moral ground can this be justified”, he asked. Mr. Fayose distanced himself from allegations of violence and wanton destruction of properties levelled against him by his opponents just he declared that he had received assurances of the PDP national chairman that there would be no imposition of candidate. “The only way out is to do it like Anambra and allow everyone to participate. If the minister wants to be governor he should come home and let the people know him. Abuja will not adopt any candidate”, he asserted. However, Mr. Olubolade debunked Mr. Fayose’s allegations, saying the former governor was being hunted by his past. The minister, who spoke through his Ekiti Liaison Officer, Alaba Agboola, in a telephone interview, urged the people of the state not to be distracted in their quest to produce a credible candidate for PDP. “The Ekiti people are sick and tired of the culture of executive violence characterised by assassinations and killings of political opponents as witnessed in our dear state in the past,” Mr Agboola said. “Apparently, this culture of violence contributed to the erosion of the image of the Ekiti PDP at the time. What do we make of a situation where someone aspiring to govern a state would storm the party secretariat with armed thugs wounding and chasing party officials out of their duty posts. “Fayose is being haunted by his past and he should be honest enough to situate the blame for his present predicament within the context of his past deeds and misdeeds. “Affliction shall not arise for the good people of Ekiti for the second time. The PDP truly desires to reclaim Ekiti State but the party has made it clear that its candidate will not emerge through a process of violence and thuggery,” he added. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/fayose-at-pdp-headquarters-vows-to-contest-2014-ekiti-governorship-poll/ |

Despite British Prime Minister David Cameron’s assurance that he will not sanction the controversial 3000 pounds visa bond, his government last weekend insisted it would begin the trial this November. The visa is to restrict some visitors from India, Nigeria, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. They will have to pay the cash bond in return for visitor visas that allow them to stay in the UK for up to six months. At the height of the controversy, David Cameron’s administration assured that he would not sanction the policy. But last weekend, FT said: “Britain is pressing ahead with its trial of a scheme to make visitors from six countries pay a £3,000 bond, despite an international backlash and complaints from businesses. The government said it would begin a pilot in November to impose visa restrictions on six Commonwealth nations, including India and Nigeria, even though David Cameron poured cold water on the scheme in June after it provoked uproar in Delhi.” “The Prime Minister has not cleared this policy. He doesn’t want to do anything that cuts across the message he took to India,” an ally of Mr. Cameron had told The Financial Times at the time. The British government has reportedly decided to go ahead with it though the Home Office insisted that it was meant to target only “high-risk” applicants. An official told the media that the scheme would be “highly selective”, targeting only “suspicious” applicants. Under a “pilot” scheme, to be introduced in November, first-time visitors from six non-white Commonwealth countries, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, will be required to deposit a cash bond of £3,000 for a British visa. It will apply only to those seeking a six-month visitors’ visa. According to the government, these six countries pose the “most significant risk of abuse’’ of visas by their citizens.“In the long run, we are interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public services,” the Home Office said. The move comes barely weeks after Mr. Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg were reported to have refused to clear the scheme in its present form, fearing that the backlash in India and Nigeria threatened to damage bilateral relations at a time when Britain is desperately trying to woo Indian investors and tourists. Cameron was reported as saying that he would “not sanction’’ any policy that was likely to undermine his push for investment. The Financial Times said that the u-turn had provoked anger in Britain’s business circles, who described the plan as an “insulting deterrent” to wealthy tourists from countries like India and Nigeria.“They are urging the government to drop the pilot, saying the restrictions will damage their business if Commonwealth tourists, particularly Nigerians, now the sixth biggest spenders on luxury goods in Britain, are put off,” it said. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/uk-3000-visa-bond-to-begin-in-november/

ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has described as speculative reports that the strike embarked upon by the union over the inability of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement it willingly entered into with the union would be called off this Thursday. National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, told The Press that he was surprised to hear that the union was going to call off the strike on Thursday when the issues tabled before government had not been resolved. Faggae said: “There is nothing like that (suspending the strike). I am also surprised to hear people say that we are going to call off the strike. He said: “Our members have made it categorically clear what they want. This meeting we had with government on Friday at “We are trying to look at issues holistically and see how we are going to address them. So assignments were given to various people that attended the meeting and the expectation is that we will meet tomorrow (today), Monday and look at the assignment given and also look at it on Thursday again. “So, that is why I’m surprised to hear people say that we are going to suspend strike on Thursday. The mandate of our members is very clear. So, we will wait and see what the Monday and Thursday meetings unfold and then we report back to our members.” On how long it would take ASUU leaders to convene a meeting with its members after the meeting with government on Thursday, the ASUU boss said “we are in constant consultation with our members, we don’t really have problems with that. “After the meeting, we will decide when to link up with our members depending upon what is placed on table on Thursday.” Commenting on the speculation that the union might suspend the strike if the government met up to 50 per cent of the agreement, Faggae said the union would prefer to get to the bridge before crossing it. He commended the positive disposition of the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Education towards the resolution of the crisis. Fagge added: “For us, the interaction we have had with the Joint Committee clearly indicates that they are concerned like other Nigerians”. “This is expected of the representatives of people. You see the problem has always been that the executive arm of government does not really hearken to advise that are given on how best to address the problems on education in this country. “We are convinced as a union that the only thing the government can really do for Nigerians is to avail them of education. “Once you are able to do that, you will see that people will be able to generate jobs and they will be able to take care of themselves and contribute to nation building. So that is the argument we are placing on the table.” http://www.naijaolofofo.com/ASUU-denies-plan-to-call-off-strike/ |
The ex-governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has made some pretty strong allegations in an interview with The Punch’s Allwell Okpi. Fayose was recently suspended from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the role he allegedly played in the invasion of the state secretariat by hoodlums. But in this interview, Fayose says his suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party in the state is laughable and meaningless. “It is like somebody taking his own heart out of his body or stopping his heart from pumping. I’m the engine room of PDP in Ekiti State. Time will tell. Our priority is that the party should win elections,” he said. It was in the news that you and some other members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State have been suspended. What exactly is the situation and what led to it? Nobody can suspend you from a party without the input of your ward. It is the party at the ward level that will suspend an errant member. Later, it will be ratified at the local council and state levels. It will then move from the zone to the national level. So, that suspension is laughable. The chairman has no such capacity. What informed all that is very clear; he wants to do what they call a consensus. He just wants to pick a candidate for the governorship election, which I objected to. He set up a committee that quite clearly represents the interest of a particular aspirant. And this committee he set up does not derive its power from the constitution of the party. The chairman has neither a fiat nor a directive from the National Working Committee of the party to do so. The powers to decide on the primaries of governorship aspirant are initiated from the national leadership, according to our constitution. He asked every aspirant to pay a non-refundable deposit of N2m and issued them receipts. He gave me a form EKPDP/Gov/2014 Serial number 002, which means I was the second person to pay. You cannot tell somebody to pay a non-refundable deposit and still be the person to choose who becomes the candidate. If you were asked to bid for a job and you obtain a form and pay a non-refundable amount of money, is it the people that put forth the form that will equally determine who wins the tender? No. It must be done through a transparent process in accordance with the guidelines stated before the fees were paid. There must be due process as allowed by the constitution. My suspension is laughable and meaningless. It is like somebody taking his own heart out of his body or stopping his heart from pumping. I’m the engine room of PDP in Ekiti State. Time will tell. Our priority is that the party should win elections. Are you accusing the PDP chairman of trying to impose a candidate for the election? There was an interview granted by the PDP chairman in SUNDAY PUNCH of July 14, 2013, where he accused the Action Congress of Nigeria of endorsing (Governor Kayode) Fayemi and the title was ‘ACN endorsement of Fayemi despotic – PDP chairman.’ The heading of the Crossfire read: Ekiti State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe, in this interview, says it is undemocratic and unconstitutional for the Action Congress of Nigeria to adopt Kayode Fayemi for another term without testing his popularity at the primary.’ He said again, ‘The action is not only despotic; it is also criminal, crude, uncivilised and unconstitutional. Of course, you can’t expect anything better than that from ACN. They are not used to conducting primary elections; there is no internal democracy in their party, they run it like a cult.’ Can’t we now conclude that the chairman is doing exactly what he accused ACN of doing? The same chairman emerged in the PDP congress of March 2012, through a democratic process. My position is that you can’t probate and reprobate at the same time. He promised the people in the South Senatorial District that he would zone it (governorship slot) to them. He promised another set of people that he was setting up the committee because of them. He is using divide and rule. I made it clear that I would not appear before such a panel because it does not take its emergence from the constitution of the party. Seven or eight members of the working committee in the state wrote and rejected the composition of the consensus committee. They signed to reject it. They said the committee was not supposed to be because it did not comply with the constitution of the party. And at different times, the party members in all the 16 local government areas in the state have resisted what the chairman is doing. Within themselves, they had issues; some accused him of collecting money from an aspirant. He had said if I could buy him 2013 Range Rover, then I could rest assured that I would get the ticket. I’m the one that brought all of them into the executive. So, I don’t understand why he should start giving conditions and asking for such money. I told him point blank that I can’t grant his request. Some reports said you and others were suspended because of the roles you played in the invasion of the party’s secretariat by hoodlums. How true is that? It is regrettable. How would a former governor come to the secretariat to do that? Have the police invited me for questioning? They did not see me there. If you want to accuse people, you must have evidence. Is the national leadership of the PDP involved in this? Ogundipe led some elders and members of the committee that he set up to the National Working Committee and the National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, said they would look at the complaints and make their findings public later. This shows that the NWC was being cautious by telling him that ‘we have heard you, we will find out and tell you our findings.’ Automatically, they don’t want to take side and they don’t want to listen to one side without talking with the other side. The NWC said it would make its findings public after thorough investigations. Rather than wait, Ogundipe jumped the gun to suspend Fayose. I don’t know what he is up to but I know he does not have the capacity to suspend me. Last year, you said the leadership of the PDP was in support of your aspiration to contest the governorship election in Ekiti State. Doesn’t this suspension imply that things have changed? Nothing has changed. Everybody can’t support you. The party will go through a process of primary election. It has been demonstrated in Anambra State that there will be primary election. Ekiti will not be an exception. The primary election is going to be under the supervision of the NWC. This shows that there is disunity in Ekiti PDP. Are you still confident that PDP can win the governorship election, which is about 11 months away? There is disunity is every party. Opeyemi Bamidele and Kayode Fayemi are on in their own party (ACN). It is normal. Conflict resolution is about party building. The same people fighting you today might be your best friends tomorrow. Twenty-four hours is a long time in politics. Right now, we should concern ourselves with the internal issues of our party. Fayemi is out of the issue, as we speak. The issue now is the PDP’s internal affairs and how its candidates will emerge. Were you officially notified about the suspension? Nobody has communicated me. I heard it in the news like you heard. The chairman went overboard. I term that as politics and I’m not bothered about it. I’ve been in this game for a while. I contested elections in worse terrains than this in 2003. So, it’s not a big deal at all. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/fayose-opens-up-on-his-suspension-ekiti-pdp-chairman-asked-me-to-buy-him-a-2013-range-rover/

Your Excellency, I bring you good tidings. I want to thank you for this generous gesture of yours which has made it possible for me to breathe the air of freedom again, and to reunite with my family, especially my wife Hafsat, who had dwelt in her own prison throughout my incarceration. I decided to write you this letter the very first day I learnt that you had made up your mind to set me free. That was weeks before my eventual release. I know some of my words will sound unpalatable; but I am a soldier in whose squadron flattery is hardly a virtue. Obviously, this freedom makes me happy indeed but your motive, at least the perceived it, tore my heart to shreds. I heard it is all about 2015, and not that I was unfairly incarcerated or that a court of competent jurisdiction had acquitted me. However, I maintain even now that I am innocent of the crimes I was accused of and condemned to death for. I am not the only one to rise from the dead. Your wife, Patience, also died and returned, remember? I am scandalized by the political undertone in the broth of my freedom. I was once the most powerful military officer in this country but now, from what I gather, you have reduced me to a pawn on the chessboard of politics? In the past, generals paid me compliments; but time changes everything. Mr President Sir, please permit me to call you by your pet-name Jona. I understand that everything you do these days has 2015 imprimatur, but bringing me into the realms of politics is not a wise idea. Let me refresh your memory a little, if you would let me. I was incarcerated in connection with the murder of Mrs Kudirat Abiola. Of course just as your popular picture as politician who is respected among his neighbours in Otuoke sticks on you like glue, my reputation as a daredevil and fearless intelligence officer precedes me. My creation, the Strike Force, is the deadliest Abuja, has ever known. Oh, I am so proud of its accomplishments. Strike Force made a snake in a garden shudder in fear during our time. Some even said that we had a crocodile pond into which we threw uncooperative people, usually NADECO members or stubborn journalists. But I can assure you no one has pointed out the pond since we left power. You see, I do not know how many books you have read Jona; but I have even memorised the Holy Qur’an. As a Muslim, it fortified my belief that in spite of the desire of those who wanted me dead, I would be free; may be not as quickly as I was discharged and acquitted but obviously anytime soon. Why did you release me Jona? Almost all of those who learnt of my release that fateful Friday morning hung my freedom on 2015. They say you are obsessed with it and that you would unchain the devil himself to realize your goal. But I am what the Americans call a goon, you know? I know nothing but soldiering. Forget my grandstanding at the Oputa Panel. It was military strategy. I knew in my military wisdom that a million SANs would not free me if I did not take my destiny in my own hands, with facts and warts. Lawless people don’t change overnight. Without any prejudice to the lawyers in this country, Jona, I can say without fear of contradiction that my tactics hit a chord, with and I believe that is why I am here. But mark you Jona, I Al Mustapha, have no political value in my region, the north, which you are trying to reach out to but which you have also offended in no small measure. Northerners will hardy forget how you ignored the Boko Haram insurgency until it got out of hand. Unofficial sources claim that close to 800,000 people, most of them northerners, lost their lives and property worth billions destroyed by the insurgents. The insurgency has resulted in northerners losing their positions in the armed forces; mediocrity now reigns. To me as a former Chief Security Officer, your initial inaction depicted a total loss of control. You were a lame duck, even in your first term. So what’s all this elaborate orchestration for 2015? But don’t mind my position, Jona. Time on death row has taken the winds off my brains. Never mind Yerima Ngama, your minister of state for finance, who told people that my sharp reasoning still amazes him. Ngama is not a psychiatrist. He probably never paid any attention to my behaviour while I marked time in Kirikiri. I had been confused. Sometimes, I greeted people with a clenched fist; while some other times, I smiled, like General Gowon does. At other times, I saluted in military fashion. You would have noticed too, Jona, that my choices since coming out are dangerously flawed. I greeted everyone in sight: TB Joshua, Fashehun, Otokoto, Ganiyu Adams and Tokyo, to mention a few of them. I make no distinction between the living and the dead, just like I have not adjusted to life outside prison. I even sought Abiola out only to learn that he is deceased. In that miasma, I paid first homage to the Kano Sate Government instead of my people in Yobe. It would have served me just as well if I had driven straight to Gashua and shook hands with Shekau! Mr President, I am saying all these because personally I know that where the north is concerned, I am a political paper tiger. Like Larry Hagman of the famous soap Dallas, I am the man that people love to hate. I lack the political value you ascribe to me, and if you released me to score a political point in my region, you have only taken a fool’s gambit. But I’m sorry; I can’t help your 2015 dream. Yours faithfully, http://www.naijaolofofo.com/al-mustapha-letter-to-president-jonathan/

The other day Tonto Dikeh displayed a picture of india hemp with on her timeline, virtually everybody lampooned her and called her all sorts of name. What amazes NaijaOlofofo is that Seun Kuti, the last born of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti recently admitted in an open interview that he takes ‘Igbo’ to cool off and relax and nobody is raising any highbrow about it. Hear what he said, “The Indian hemp should not be abused. It is good for mankind. I take Igbo (Indian hemp), but not for performance. I take it to relax and cool off. It is ideal for good sleep, arouses appetite, used to treat cancer, relieves pains, clears the head and relaxes the nerves.” He also said about why the government frowns about Igbo as illegal, “Our government sees Igbo as illegal because it is a black man’s inheritance and not from white people; maybe if it was from Europe like cigarette, it would have been legalised. We are just fake people who don’t believe in our own abilities, but only rely on anything from the West. If Oyinbo man says something is right, then it is right and if they say it is bad, then it is bad. Our government should first provide me with the basic, social amenities before telling me to stop smoking Igbo because I take it to reduce the psychological frustration I get from government’s inabilities. They are criticizing Igbo, but there are junkies are all Nigeria now sniffing cocaine and other hard drugs.” http://www.naijaolofofo.com/seun-kuti-i-take-idian-hemp-to-relax-and-cool-off/

Residents of Kware area of Ongata Rongai in Kajiado, Kenya were in shock when they stumbled upon a headless cock suspected to be used for witchcraft purposes. The headless cock which was still strong and walked in the streets of the area was found during the evening hours by passers-by. Rachel Danson, a Kware resident, who operates a kiosk near the site where the headless cock was found, said that she found something put in a white polythene paper in the morning near her kiosk. She however did not bother opening it since she thought it was waste dumped along the road by the residents. “I spotted the white polythene paper in the morning but I did not open it because I thought it was waste dumped along the road,” Rachel said. She said she became suspicious when Ann Nderitu, a neighbour who was passing along the road checked it and informed her that the contents of the polythene paper contained a living creature which was still breathing. “At first we were afraid to check but we opted to do so when another neighbour dared to open and find out what it was,” she said. Frightened residents ran for dear life when a cock without a head emerged from the polythene paper and walked freely along the road. Another dead and rotten cock which was black in colour was left in the polythene paper. When the press visited the scene, the residents and school children were gathered around the headless cock to witness the bizarre incident. How it started for KCEE Kingsley Okonkwo started like every other upcoming act in Nigeria – the hard way. In the early 2000s, he met with former partner Presh (Precious John) in a church choir. They met up with a third member, named the group KC Presh and released their first single ‘Ose baba’, shot a video for it, receiving mild success. Partying ways with the third member in 2002, the duo entered the first ever edition of Nigerian Breweries STAR QUEST talent show and won beating the likes of Asa, Psquare, Klint da Drunk, Mr Raw (formerly known as Nigga Raw). As part of the spoils, KC Presh signed a deal with Kennis Music (the biggest record label in Nigeria at the time) and made a big debut. During their time at Kennis, KC Presh never attained super status, it always seemed like they were one hit away. They soon parted ways with the label and set up shop on their own with KP Records. Their first instalment was the OJB assisted ‘Segemenge’ off the album ‘Sio Nkpo’ which bagged them a Channel O nomination and more fame. But while the likes of D’banj and the Mo’Hits were flying high with chart topping singles and back-to-back hits, KC Presh struggled with their careers. They tried once again with KCEE’s wealthy brother intervening – they restructured, re-launched the label as ‘Blingz Record’, affiliated with Grafton Records in the South and released a new album ‘No Time’ with the lead single ‘Shokori bobo’. All this however did not result in mega success, infact the duo’s careers’ imploded. How KCEE got his groove back After several attempts to stage a comeback, the duo eventually split on good terms (friends told Nigerian Entertainment Today KCEE and Presh continued to stay in the same house for months). That separation seemed to be the break for KCEE who immediately put in work releasing his debut single ‘Now I know’. He took it from there with bigger hits ‘Okpekete’ (with Davido), ‘Give it to me’ (feat Flavour) all under his new label Five Star Music. The signs were there but it was the huge hit ‘Limpopo’ that shattered all barriers and planted him as a bona fide hit-maker and music star. Written by R&B singer Harrysong and produced by Del B, the song has turned a once undesired KCEE into a fans’ favourite, darling of promoters. That single hit has ushered him into the A list, with an MTN endorsement deal as icing. The story hear is not KCEE’s new cars (thanks to his bigger brother, he’s always lived a very posh lifestyle) but his struggle and eventual breakthough. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/kcee-mr-limpopo-the-story-so-far-struggle-and-breakthough/

Prophet T.B. Joshua has responded to a controversial online article suggesting he was the mastermind behind the release of Major Al-Mustapha. Online Nigerian media house Sahara Reporters had released an article titled ‘Pastor T.B. Joshua Revealed As Man Behind Al-Mustapha’s Release’ which quoted an anonymous source identifying Joshua as the person who told Goodluck Jonathan that his political fortune in 2015 rested with setting Al Mustapha free alongside brings James Ibori back to Nigeria. “This article is from the enemy,” the Nigerian cleric fumed via a statement on his official Facebook page, followed by close to 750,000 people. “They should not drag me into the issue of politics. If I was ever to go to Aso Rock, I would go publicly. I have already told you how I met Al-Mustapha. Don’t put words in my mouth.” After Al-Mustapha’s release last week, his first port of call was to Prophet T.B. Joshua whom Mustapha later described upon his triumphant arrival in Kano as an ‘old friend’. Joshua had immediately granted an interview following Mustapha’s visit, explaining that he met Mustapha following his wrongful imprisonment by the NDLEA and had prophesied to him about his long prison sentence and eventual release. “It is therefore very malicious for Sahara Reporters to attach any political meanings to Al-Mustapha’s visit,” T.B. Joshua continued, denying that he had any involvement in Al-Mustapha’s release. “Count me out of the politics of hatred.” http://www.naijaolofofo.com/tb-joshua-count-me-out-of-the-politics-of-hatred/ |
The Senator representing Ondo State Central at the National Assembly, Senator Ayo Akinyelure today made a U-turn and begged the people of the state to forgive him for his decision to support the controversial underage marriage proposal. The senator, who was weeping like a two year-old baby and also prostrating at a stakeholder meeting held at Adegbemile Cultural Center in Akure, where he was summoned by his constituents said he voted in error. The Senator, popularly known as Allover, urged the people to count it as part of human errors which could have been committed by anyone. It could be recalled that the Ondo State Senator was listed in a report as one of the Senators who voted for underage marriage. This popular report also showed that the Senator was the only lawmaker from South West who supported the proposed law. This particular stand of the lawmaker had arouse anger among his people who believe that he had betrayed them. In order to dissociate themselves from his action, the people had earlier converged at the same venue on Saturday to show their grievances over the Senator’s action by signing a protest register. But, Akinyelure while defending himself on the issue claimed that he mistakenly press “NO” instead of “YES” when the lawmakers embarked on voting, since the voting style was electronic. According to him, “nobody is above human errors. What happened has made me to become wiser, because nobody is perfect, except God. I will like to make the following clarifications on the subject matter to correct the wrong allegations of voting in favour of Underage marriage as widely reported in the national dailies. “Before this issue occurred, what the Senate considered for determination under the review of Nigerian constitution was renunciation of citizenship under the constitution contained under section 29 (4b) which provides that all married women shall be of age” it is worthy of note that full age has been defined under section 29 (4a) to mean “the age of 18 years and above”. The question before the Senate for determination therefore, was whether the clause which provides that “a married woman is deemed to be of full age to renounce her citizenship of Federal Republic of Nigeria should be retained or be deleted? Section 29 (1) of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria provides that “Any Citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation. “The question before the senate for which I voted in favour was that whether a married woman is deemed to be of full age to renounce her Nigerian Citizenship and not whether a woman can marry before attaining the age of 18 years. This is quite different from voting in favour of underage marriage as widely reported in the media to blackmail Senators of Federal Republic of Nigeria, that believe in the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria as a Nation and to avoid possible religious crises and security challenges that may likely result from deleting this clause in question from the constitution, hence, I voted for the clause to remain. “This implies that renunciation of Nigeria Citizenship is quite different from age of marriage of Nigeria Citizens under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I submit this clarifications to the whole Nigeria and the world at large that, I, my people in Ondo Central and the Government of Ondo State did not support underage marriage in all ramifications. “Therefore, my voting “No” was in clear error of misinterpretation and I had no opportunity to correct what is deemed to be my error now, because I would have been able to correct my error before the voting was concluded by the senate. We make use of electronic vote and you can’t make correction ones you make an error. “However, the position of the senate would have remained the same if I had voted YES to section 29 (4b) to be removed from the constitution, because for the clause to be passed by the senate, it requires 73 votes, representing two/third majority votes. Therefore, my voting YES would have brought the result to 61 YES and 34 NO, hence, not meeting the requirements for passage. I therefore, use this medium to apologize to my constituency members and the good people of Ondo state, for voting in error as a result of my wrong interpretation without any ample opportunity to make correction before voting was concluded” Despite all these explanations given by the Senator, the people who were majorly woman and members of the ruling Labour Party ,LP, were not satisfied, and remained adamant. Some of them who spoke at the meeting said, the Senator had taken a decision which had put the people of the state to shame. The Idanre Local government women leader, Mrs. Abike Tiamiyu who is from the same local government of the Senator, said what the senator haD done does not call for total condemnation. However, she was booed by the people for supporting the Senator. Akinyelure was particularly asked by Ifedore local government LP women leader, Mrs. Iyabo Ojo if the Senator took a bribe before supporting underage marriage. The State Coordinator of the National Council for Women Society, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi said any of the senator who believe he or she is a good parent will never support early marriage for a girl child. He noted that if woman are allowed to marry at any age, when would they be able to contribute their quotas to the development of the nation. Legalizing underage marriage is more or less preventing woman from occupying great positions in the country. We have several females in the National Assembly. If their parents had supported early marriage, would they have been able to get that position?” She asked Meanwhile, before the arrival of the Senator and his entourage, including some government officials, the House of Assembly Members and Leaders of LP, hundreds of residents of his senatorial district had besieged the venue of the even,t protesting over the Lawmaker’s action. Following this action, some of his loyalists were forced to disperse the protesters with stones. Some of the placards displayed by the aggrieved people protesters had the inscriptions, “Ayo Akinyelure sold our daughters pride for money” “Allover failed to protect Yoruba Culture” “Child murder is not Yoruba Culture” Akinyelure be warned’ Yoruba Culture not for sale” among others. It took the intervention of the Police before order was restored at the venue. The Senator who denied that he did not send anyone to disperse the protesters, however appealed for forgiveness. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/underage-marriage-law-ondo-senator-weeps-says-he-voted-in-error/
