In the human experience, we never question the idea that one can love more than one book, piece of music, type of food, art, etc. Neither in our personal relationships do we question the concept and ability of loving more than one parent, sibling, child, close/far-flung relative(s), friend, etc. In light of all that, isn't the exclusivity we expect of romantic love seemingly irrational, or at least incredibly perplexing?
