Well as you can't win it all. With knowledge on your side, you were able to diversify.

Now, imagine how over 200 million Nigerians without this knowledge and spare cash to buy dollar have been thrown into extreme misfortune.

Most of the rich knew about this and they multiplied their worth easily. So long as you live in Nigeria whether you earn in Pounds or Malaysian ringgit the devaluation affects you but then the worst set of people are thecones who have only Naira as currency.

skydiver01:
I am quite aware of the Naira's devaluation over 4 years. I am unaffected by it because of my dollar investments as far back as 15 years ago. The FGN bond coupons more than meets my annual expenses in Nigeria and that is super fine with me. Its called diversification. I have a well balanced diversified portfolio that includes FX investments that also pays both coupons and dividends in FX. Don't bother yourself about my FGN bond holdings. My FX investments has covered many times over the devaluation of my FGN Naira bonds you refer to. I am fine because of the benefits of having a diversified portfolio wink grin

Nice coupon but do you know that the capital of this investment has been devalued by over 383% from 2020 when dollar was at N365.

If you had bought dollar with the capital and held till now, you would have been a lot better.

Your N50m @ N365/$ in 2020 = $136,900, It is now worth N50m /N1400 in 2024 = $35,714.

You lost over $100,000 in 4 years and counting cry

skydiver01:
My account was funded on 22 Jan, 2024 by the coupon payments of my FGN 2026 & 2034 bonds (compounding) wink

Can you do a video recording of the WhatsApp conversation between you and the scammer, try to delete the saved scammer's name in your contact list so that we can all see the phone number while recording. Post the video on YouTube and share the link here for us to help you determine the scammer.
This will authenticate which number chatted you up exactly.

Are you saying the guy who you chatted here as the scammer uses two different numbers?

Moda1:
Till tomorrow,ur the scammer.
You are operating double identity . If u see any loophole , u scam the person . I will say it over and over again .
The 2 numbers i posted earlier is your own .. dont patronize me . The time u are transacting with Versatileve , is the same time u are scamming me . It no coincidence here . You are a low key scammer. Period!

Go to Police station tomorrow pay N5K or N10k collect police report, proceed to his bank and report it as Fraud (Tell his bank you are proceeding to social media to post the bank details) and his BVN will be flagged and account blocked.

But you fuc.kk upo, why you go just send N150k to a stranger just like that?

Brokeness:
Good day nairalanders. I believe this is a great forum with lots of intelligent folks.. and that is why I have come to seek your counsel. Even though I haven't met anyone here but nairaland is like my online family

I think these are some key facts to note before you dish your advice (s). Here we go;

-I am a 23 years old male.
-I am the only son and eldest in a family of 2 and my dad is late.
-I am in 100 level (sponsored by my mum's relations) doing a 4 years course but sorry to say this, I don't rate school at all.. just there for the certificate (even though the course is highly rated)
-I am a pump attendant on a 25k salary (night work 7PM to 6AM) with one night off in a week.
-I have a nice USA used HP laptop that is laying idle in my room and my strong Tecno camon which can be used to learn some valuable skills.
-Lastly, I have the zeal to learn an online skill that can be very profitable in 3 to 6 months time and would stand the test of time in a long time to come; but I don't know which, how or where to start from. I seriously need to add another source of income (online) as this my current work is exhausting coupled with my schooling. No rest at all.

Pls my elders in the house, I sincerely need your advice at this critical point in my life. I don't want to make a grave mistake of not learning an online skill and be left out in the digital word. I don't want to continue forever in paid employment. It's no fun. I want to help myself and my family. I don't want to explain tire..

Kindly feel free to ask me whatever you may need to know. I will be reading from the comments. Thanks.

You are not alone.
My regret is that only 92% of my assets is in Foreign currency, I should have done better even with all the signs that I saw throughout the years.
In the last few weeks, my Forex balance equivalent keep running into hundreds of millions like magic, I was like shuuu wetin be this.
I would've borrowed money in Naira to buy Forex, anyway still looking to buy dollar incase anyone wants to sell grin

Before June 2024 $1 will hit N1000. .
E go better is a language of those that were unfortunate and missed out in buying dollar when it was N360 = $1.
Tinubu's family's income from the closure of Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate dropped. They will keep repaying the Naira denominated debts to gain more credit worthiness and even borrow to repay euro bonds, they will look good at first but by the time they finish with Nigeria.
The value of Naira will be tissue paper.

Na so some people talk that time say once Dangote open his refinery, demand for dollar will crash, I laughed at them and asked Is Dangote related to Jesus ?

Nigeria doesn't produce Forex or generate enough, it is not in sight to do any of those so therefore the value of dollar will continue to drop, I bought N895/$ today. We never enter festive season o hehe

In the long term, naira will continue to loss value against dollar. This dollar matter wey we don dey talk for this thread when it was at 380, 460 e never pull back since then e.t.c

Investment / Giveaway N1.6 Million by TotoNaRubber: 10:36pm On Jul 22, 2023
Can anyone suggest what I can invest in, I get N1.6 million inflow every month that I don't know what to do with it. I know what I'm doing that's why I'm getting that but what to do with the dough I have no ideas.

Intact I am thinking of investing it but no idea what to invest it in or do giveaway with it every month.

Serious suggestions and investment ideas please.
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by TotoNaRubber: 5:58am On Jul 20, 2023
With the devaluation of Naira, it is now crystal clear that anyone who invested in ONLY Naira denominated debt instruments without hedging has depleted their life savings.

From 2015 - 2023, the value of Naira has lost more than 380% in value. This demonstrates that no matter how much you compounded in the last 8 years. It is a TOTAL LOSS !

An interesting fact
"A" had $100,000 in 2015 and decided to invest in Nigerian debt instruments. A converted the funds to Naira @ N216/$ = N21,600,000. A locked in the funds for 10 years at 17% per annum.
After 8 years, A had an interest of N29,376,000. A total of N50,376,000 was realised after 8 years.

"B" had $100,000 but was lazy and decided to leave his own in a Dom acc with interest rate of 0.3%. Interest rate after 8 years was $2,400. Today, B decided to sell. Total capital and interest of $102,400 was sold @ N835/$ = N85,500,000. ("He doesn't have to sell yet"wink

A heard what B did and said had I known. Moral of the story, investing in debt instruments of a declining economy will only make you POOR. There is a reason why Dangote is the richest man in the world yet he uses public debt instruments to fund some of his projects.
