No, she's not dead...just seriously injured. Miriam Gakenia,31, and her fiance James Mwangi, 27, had gone to buy wedding items but were injured in a road accident at Kiangwachi area along Nyeri-Nairobi highway on Tuesday, December 15. Their wedding was to take place at Dominion Towers Deliverance Church today, Saturday December 19. Gakenia suffered a right hip joint injury and a broken right arm while Mwangi's right hand was injured. He had been treated and discharged but she could neither sit nor stand. The couple exchanged their vows at Outspan hospital today, with nurses as her bridesmaids. "The wedding had to go on. We had prepared for six months. The devil was not going to get in the way. She would have become my wife even if she had lost her legs," Mwangi explained. Gakenia said from her hospital bed: "I informed my doctor of the wedding and told him we were not ready to postpone it." She said the hospital agreed to hold the wedding on its grounds. Nurses and matron Jane Wamucii escorted her to the location on her bed. Gakenia and Mwangi had difficulties putting on their wedding rings as their hands were in casts but they exchanged their vows in what Reverend Stephen Mungai described as "a first in Nyeri". It was also difficult for them to sign their marriage certificate and to share their wedding cake, but these paled in comparison to the exchange of vows at the emotional ceremony. "I have never conducted such a wedding. It shows far love can go. It is a lesson in sticking with your vision regardless of hurdles, and eventually reaching your destination," the reverend said. The couple did not have a photo shoot after the wedding but was taken to a private room at the hospital where Mwangi sat by Gakenia's bed for hours. Gakenia, a system administrator at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, will remain at the hospital for six weeks. www.newseveryhour.com/2015/12/couple-say-i-do-on-hospital-bed-after.html

Photos: 11 year old potential child suicide bomber arrested in Borno Press statement from the Nigerian Military below... Vigilant troops of 7 Division Garrison providing security at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp, Dalori in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Borno State yesterday Tuesday afternoon apprehended an 11-year-old boy, Master Usman Modu Tella, a potential suicide bomber. He is suspect number 82 on the poster containing the photographs of 100 wanted suspected Boko Haram terrorists released by the Nigerian Army. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was from Bama town and is among 4 other children trained for suicide bombing by the Boko Haram terrorists. He further added that the 3 others have already carried out their missions at different locations. His job was to do same in the camp sometime in the future. The boy also pointed out one other Boko Haram senior member, Alhaji Kerewu Abubakar at the camp. It will be recalled that due to the concerted efforts of the military quite a number of towns and villages hitherto held by the Boko Haram terrorists were liberated, this brought about an unprecedented influx of IDPs to the camp which the terrorists took advantage and infiltrate in order to wreck more havoc among the society. The case of these suspects clearly indicated this point hence the need for proper screening of all IDPs with a view to ascertain their true identity. The apprehension of the suspects is a boost to the fight against terrorism and insurgency in that they were assisting with investigation that would lead to the arrest of more suspected terrorists in the camp and elsewhere. You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium. Thank you for your kind and usual cooperation. Earlier today, a man was caught as he approached a plane that was taxiing at MMIA this morning, causing panic . In a statement released by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, they said the man wasn't a suspected terrorist but someone trying to stowaway. Read their press statement after the cut... Vigilant Aviation Security staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, today,December 2, 2015, apprehended a man, Mr. Alabibu Olushola, who was attempting to stow away in a taxing aircraft on the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja. The culprit was arrested as soon as he scaled the perimeter fence near the moving aircraft and after interrogation by the Avsec staff, he was immediately handed over to the police for further interrogation. The Authority wishes to remind members of the public that access to restricted areas of the airport, including the tarmac and perimeter roads, is prohibited for unauthorized people, including airport staff, who have no business being there. This is more so in view of the present security situation in the country. The Authority will henceforth not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any person, including unauthorized airport staff, who is found loitering around restricted areas of all our airports. We've shared two eye-witness reports on this story, now we have a photo of the man after he was apprehended by airport security. The man appeared at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos this morning with a rock sack and approached a Medview plane that was taxiing. Fortunately, the captain of the plane noticed him and used high engine thrust to blow him away. See the burn marks on his body? He tried to escape but was caught by airport security who are now interrogating him. The airport was later shut down and vigorous search was conducted... http://www.newseveryhour.com/2015/12/photo-of-thevman-who-caused-scare-at.html

Sent in by a blog reader... Yesterday evening, I visited my aunt who is nursing a baby at Akute, Lagos. I felt like having a cup of milk, i went to the fridge and found out that her tin of milk was empty. I asked her if she had any more available, then she pointed to a cup on her dining table and told me she had some in it. She told me I could add some Bournvita if I wish. So I added the bournvita to the milk on her table. I gulped it down then noticed the taste was different. I told her about the different taste, and then my aunt burst into a big laughter. She told me it was her breast milk she pressed into the cup shortly before I arrived at her place. She said that it was breast milk i just mixed with the bournvita. I know my aunt is always up to all sorts of jokes and mischief, but this wasn't funny to me at all. I feel something wasn't just right about her action. I feel like reporting her to my mum but I also don't know what her reaction might be and at the same time I hope I'm not over reacting. Is my aunt's action wrong or just a joke I should ignore? Pls advise me, but I cringe each time I remember. I am 18 years old. www.newseveryhour.com/2015/12/right-or-wrong-see-what-my-aunt-did.html |
Different people have narrated their encounters at the Lagos airport today. A blog reader sent in this... "I don't know how else to get this information out to the general public so I decided to contact you. I just arrived in Lagos on a flight from Owerri. As the plane was taxiing to a halt, I looked out the window and saw something rolling on the runway like a piece of luggage that fell out of a moving plane. When we disembarked the aircraft, I realize that it was a man that had been knocked down to the ground by the air from another aircraft on the tarmac. The man got up and was severely bruised from rolling on the tarmac. He took off into the bush by the tarmac in spite of the severe bruising he suffered. Some ground staff tried to catch him, but till we were picked up from the tarmac they hadn't caught him. People started to speculate if he was a boko haram terrorist trying to plant something on an aircraft, or perhaps he had already planted something and was just trying to get away. Please post to see if the appropriate authorities can investigate and perhaps comment to let us know that air travel is still safe. It was quite scary, and the speculation of terrorism is even more scary. Another blog reader sent this in also to narrate the experience... There was a terrorist scare at MMIA today. Read the other one here MedView airline and terrorist fear. We were about to take off from Lagos to Abuja on Medview flight 210811.15 amflight this morning. The plane was already on the runway when the pilot suddenly slowed down. We saw a man beside the wing of the plane carrying a black bag. As the plane moved forward, he tried to jump as if trying to grab something. At first we thought it was an engineer but what will an engineer be doing beside a moving plane? He tried this several times. As he tried for the fourth time to jump or hold maybe "throw the bag into the engine, the pilot saw him and turned on the engine to the highest. The wind blew him away, causing him to rumble and roll on the floor. He was burnt and severely bruised . He stood up and ran to the other side of the plane limping. Two airport authorities ran towards him and he apprehended by airport security We panicked and the pilot announced that the plane has been compromised, so we disembarked and we are waiting for the three o clock flight. www.newseveryhour.com/2015/12/the-strange-occurrence-someone.html

Chris Oyakhilome is facing trouble in South Africa after refusing to comply with government orders to release his financial records. According to a report in News 24, several prominent church leaders have not adhered to the demands of the South African Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities. The Commission, led by Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva is investigating the commercialisation of religion and the abuse of people's beliefs within South Africa, where Christ Embassy has several branches. “These people take money from people. What are they doing with that money? We want to know. We will not back down,” she said. All those summoned to the hearings are required to produce their ordination certificate, the church registration certificate, bank statements and the annual financial statements dating from 2012. “Some of these religious leaders will face prison if they do not comply and we have been clear about our course of action," she insisted. Mkhwanazi-Xaluva singled out Oyakhilome, stating that he insisted he would fight the commission in court before releasing his records. “If he intends on that route, we are ready. He will have to face the same fate as the others who refuse to hand over their financial records,” she said. In contrast, a source who attended the hearing of South African Bishop Stephen Zondo, stated that Mkhwanazi-Xaluva cited an equally controversial Nigerian megachurch leader, T.B. Joshua, as an example of one who openly used his finances to assist the less-privileged, something she expected of all clergy. www.newseveryhour.com/2015/11/chris-oyakhilome-facing-trouble-in.html
