PoliticsAPC Vs PDP: "Nothing Good Or Christian In PDP Behaviour & Performance by trendutain(op): 11:59am On Jul 01, 2013
APC vs PDP: "Nothing Good or Christian In PDP Behaviour & Performance in the Last 5 Years" -- Fani-Kayode
The former Minister of Aviation, member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode describes as "mischievous" or "simply ignorant" those people who are claiming that the association, merger of opposition parties, is controlled by Muslims.

In his statement on Sunday, Fani-Kayode has shown that 18 interim national officers of the association are Muslims and 17 are Christians -- in contrast with the list circulated within the social media.

Believing this is a stratagem by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he urged those spreading the rumours to reveal the full list.

"Those that say that APC is a Muslim party and that are citing and passing around a long list of newly-appointed Muslim interim officers as evidence of this are either being mischievous or are just plain ignorant," Mr Fani-Kayode said. "The APC has 37 interim national officers on its interim National Executive Committee. 18 of those officers are Muslims and 17 are Christians.

"Those that are publishing and spreading the all Muslim list in the media and the social websites and networks should be advised to go and publish the full list of ALL the national officers of the APC and not just the list of Muslim ones.

"This is merely a PDP ploy to sell a lie to the public and attempt to clothe it as truth and it shall not stand. The truth is that there are many more religious and ethnic bigots in the PDP and much more ignorance than there is in any other party in Nigeria."

Also, Mr Fani-Kayode recalled, "It is the National Chairman of the PDP by the name of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and not that of the APC that recently described the Islamist terrorist organisation called Boko Haram as 'freedom fighters'.

PoliticsSTOP Your Iron Lady Jonathan by trendutain(op): 8:22am On Jul 01, 2013
STOP Your Iron Lady Jonathan
Each time the wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, hits the road with her long motorcade, including bulletproof and bombproof limousines, or is having a whale of a time at an event, drivers and commuters who find themselves on her routes always have to live with the bitter experience of the encounter.

As police empty the roads of traffic, forcing drivers to wait as her glamorous convoy drifts by, motorists are trapped in traffic for hours on end, while social and economic life of the affected community is brought to a halt abruptly.

The recent visit of Mrs. Jonathan to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, in which her security details forcibly grounded the movement of residents, is the latest of such excesses that Nigerians have been forced to endure for the past three years. This impunity must stop. According to newspaper reports, Mrs. Jonathan’s security arrangement paralysed activities in the Port Harcourt Government Reservation Area for the four days of her visit. Armoured personnel carriers were deployed at two points, while gun-wielding operatives manned the points leading to her private residence. Many people missed their appointments because they were prevented from moving in and out of their houses.

When she came to Lagos last year, on a “thank-you visit” to some women groups for electing her husband president, she enacted a similar repulsive scenario. During the visit, Lagos residents were subjected to an unprecedented road blockade, which gave rise to an unnerving five-hour traffic that grounded all human and economic activities. The First Lady was attending that event at Ocean View Restaurant on Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island.

PoliticsDeath Of Senator Ewerhido Attributed To “spiritual Attacks” Over 2015 Elections? by trendutain(op): 6:08am On Jul 01, 2013
Death of Senator Ewerhido Attributed to “Spiritual Attacks” over 2015 Elections?
The death of Senator Pius Ewherido of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) representing Delta Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly today has received various explanations, including "spiritual attacks", allegedly linked to 2015 elections.

According to sources, Senator Ewherido slumped three days ago while answering the phone and had blood gushing out of his mouth and nose before he was rushed to the National Hospital in Abuja, where the preparations to fly senator to a German hospital had began before he passed away.

Another source close to the senator disclosed to Sahara Reporters that Ewherido has already been designated as the Delta state governorship candidate of the yet to be registered All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2015 elections and all plans to that effect were already sealed awaiting the registration and full fledge take off of the party.

However, a medical source at the National Hospital told Sahara Reporters that the senator died of heart attack after he had a stroke some 48 hours ago.

Senator Ewerhido was recently expelled from the Democratic People's Party (DPP), accused of attending the meetings of the APC without authorization.

Insisting that the senator was "killed" by his enemies, Sahara Reporters' source also revealed that the spiritual attacks have several angles to it. The sourse added that they suspect an unnamed politician serving in governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s government who had a running battle with Ewherido during the PDP primaries for the senatorial district before the senator cross carpeted to the DPP and defeated him in the 2011 elections. He reportedly boasted severally that he is still a senator in waiting. Sahara Reporters' source also disclosed that "spiritual attacks" on politicians happened before but the victim survived through divine intervention.

"My brother, the death of Senator Pius Ewherido is not ordinary. Delta state has lost a gem, our only hope for 2015 election. The most painful aspect of it all is that he has already gotten the ticket to fly the APC governorship flag in the state and now look at what has befallen us. Delta state politics has turned into something else. Those behind the death of Chief (Barr) Pius Akpor Ewherido, our distinguished Senator, alias "Gogorogo" shall never go unpunished" he said before hanging up the phone.

Man Shot Dead At Osun PDP Meeting

A 25-year-old man Kunle Olagoke, has been shot dead at a factional meeting of a political party believed to be the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edunabon, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.

It was gathered that he died during a clash of rival factions of the party in the area.

Sources said there had been a leadership tussle between the two factions since last year in Ife North Local Government.

The PDP in the area had been allegedly enmeshed in crisis since the assumption of office of the chairman of the party in the council, Mr. Sam Oyetade.

A leader of the party in the state, who is also a governorship aspirant was not favorably disposed to the emergence of Oyetade as chairman and had made several efforts to get him impeached to no avail.

Trouble started at the ward meeting of the party at the Local Authority Primary School, in Edunabon at about 4.00pm on Sunday when some loyalists of the governorship aspirant allegedly stormed the venue of the meeting and called for the removal of Oyetade as the party chairman.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday explained why Nigeria did not seek a review of the International Court of Justice ruling on the ceding of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon, saying the country had no fresh evidence in the case.

photo President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday explained why Nigeria did not seek a review of the International Court of Justice ruling on the ceding of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon, saying the country had no fresh evidence in the case.

He also said, Nigeria did not proceed with the case in order to protect the interest of its nationals in the Cameroon.

Jonathan spoke on the sidelines of the summit of heads of states and governments of the Economic Community of Central African States, Economic Community of West African States and the Gulf of Guinea Commission, which started in Cameroon on Monday.

He spoke with the Nigerian community in Yaounde, Cameroon.

He said his administration believed that as long as the dispute over the peninsula persisted, there would be continued animosity among the citizens of the countries.

The 10-year window to seek a review of the judgment delivered on October 10,2002 if there were fresh facts ended on October 9, 2012 without the Federal Government appealing the ruling.

The government’s decision disappointed a section of Nigerians, who had sought a review of the ICJ judgment.

Jonathan on Sunday, however, insisted that the decision was in the best interest of the country and its citizens.

The party made the accusation in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, on Monday.

It alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan, through his approval of the Jonah Jang’s faction of the Forum, had shown “he had a hand in the crisis.”

The ACN said, “Even as it had come out to issue a denial of being involved in this crisis, we are all aware that the NGF crisis was began in the Presidency. We all know that the Presidency wrote and forced down the scripts of the present crisis on governors whom it factored would procure the division or ultimate destruction of the NGF for its self-serving interests.

“We all knew that in every stage of the NGF crisis, the Presidency is an active participant and it was to remove all shreds of doubts on these when it went round to offer recognition to the losing Jang faction.”

It said it he did, it was “misleading and unacceptable,” pointing out that that Christians and their churches and businesses have been the major targets of the Boko Haram terror group.

“We want to believe that the president was misquoted; we don’t want to believe that with the security apparatus and reports from security intelligence network at his disposal, he made this type of assertion,” CAN said. “If it is true that Mr. President actually made this assertion, then, we are highly disappointed and sad at this veiled attempt to distort the facts as it concerns the activities of the Boko Haram sect.”

Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has denied ever slapping his deputy, Mrs. Grace Tomori, stressing that the rumor was aimed at causing disaffection capable of destabilising the state.

The governor said a cordial relationship exists between the two of them.

He added that “I have never beaten anybody in my life. In fact, I don’t beat my children, let alone beating any other person. More so, the Deputy Governor is older than me, so how do I beat an elderly person.”

PoliticsMY Turn:jonathan’s Loyalists May Control New PDP NWC by trendutain(op): 8:07am On Jun 24, 2013
There are strong indications that President Goodluck Jonathan’s loyalists may dominate the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee after the party’s special convention in July.

photo

Already, supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party leadership have initiated moves to ensure that some immediate past members of the PDP National Working Committee do not return to the committee.

Investigations by The PUNCH on Sunday revealed that the President and Tukur’s loyalists have also identified some prominent PDP members who lost out during the party’s 2012 national convention as aspirants that must be stopped from being elected into the NWC at the forthcoming convention of the party.

Such politicians are those said to be against Jonathan’s 2015 ambition and Tukur’s continued leadership of the PDP.

According to a source in Abuja said that the loyalists decided to move against such politicians on learning that they had started reaching out to see if they could be favoured in the forthcoming special convention of the party slated for July 20.

The source boasted that the ambition of some of the eight NWC members who resigned during last Thursday’s 61st committee meeting of the party, to return to their former offices would not be feasible.

The eight – Dr. Sam Sam Jaja (Deputy National Chairman), Abubakar Mustapha (National Organising Secretary), Alhaji Garba Chima (National Youth Leader), Chief Solomon Onwe (Acting National Secretary), Kema Chikwe (Woman Leader), Victor Kwom (National Legal Adviser), Chief Olisa Metuh (National Publicity Secretary), and Bala Kaoje (National Treasurer) – were among 17 officers of the PDP whose positions were voided by the Independent National Electoral Commission for not meeting the party’s guidelines.

The source in the PDP said, “Jonathan is in charge. Tukur is also in charge of the PDP. I can tell you that any member of our party perceived to be against the President’s 2015 ambition and Tukur’s leadership of the PDP can not be elected an NWC member. Quote me. The President’s loyalists and many of our governors in support of the chairman have started what I call ‘stop them moves’. So, I do not see how they can seek election on July 20 when our special convention would hold and win.”

Jaja is seen as an ally of the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, who has been suspended from the party. Governors close to Amaechi, who heads the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, are believed to be the arrowheads of the oppostion against Jonathan’s 2015 ambition and Tukur’s leadership.

Investigations showed that some hawks in the party have already started pushing for Jaja’s replacement with another candidate.

In this regard, the name of the former occupier of the office, Mr. Uche Secondus, who is also from the state, is being touted.

Secondus, though a native of the state, was loyal to Amaechi but shifted his loyalty during the crisis that led to the disqualification of former Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Timi Sylva, from running for a second term.

Also, intense lobbying is said to be ongoing to prevent Kaoje from returning to office as he is said not to meet the constitutional provision for the office.

Kaoje is an engineer, while the PDP constitution stipulates that the party’s treasurer must be an accountant.

Chapter V of the constitution, which states the duties and qualifications of national officers, says, concerning the treasurer, “a national treasurer shall be an accountant with track records of prudence.”

Apart from this, Kaoje is said to have argued against the suspension of the Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, by the PDP leadership.

He was one of the few members of the NWC, who advised against the governor’s suspension.Wamakko has however been recalled.

Kaoje’s action was termed as “anti-Jonathan” by some close allies of the President.

Our correspondent gathered that it was because of the pressure to replace some of the officers with the President’s loyalists that made the convention committee to call for fresh nominations.

SportsAll The Stats From NIGERIA VS URAGUAY by trendutain(op): 1:18am On Jun 21, 2013
: Nigeria vs Uraguay foootball statistics (confederations cup)
Fifa Confederations Cup

Venue & date: Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador; Thursday, 20 June
Time: 23:00 (11:00pm)

Nigeria will have to do without Ogenyi Onazi again, who is at home in Nigeria recovering from a knee injury.
Ending speculation the Lazio midfielder may play some part at the tournament, otherwise Nigeria have no major injury concerns.
Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has already named his team.
Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan will start, along with
Liverpool's Luis Suarez and Napoli's Edinson Cavani.

MATCH PREVIEW
Nigeria looked like they needed a Confederations Cup dry-run for large periods against Tahiti. There's no such margin for error in their first ever meeting with Uruguay.
The second group game of the tournament seems a little early for qualification permutations but safe to say it's a must-win for both teams.
Nigeria never looked like slipping up against Tahiti but they were anything but efficient against the French Polynesian minnows.
Nnamdi Oduamadi's hat-trick will reportedly see him recalled to AC Milan from a loan spell with Serie B outfit Varese. But, his finishing aside, the Super Eagles were woeful in attack and coach Stephen Keshi is demanding improvement.
"I wouldn't say I was annoyed, but I was worried when we did not take our chances because it gave our opponents hope," he said.

Uruguay themselves were similarly toothless against Spain but front man Diego Forlan is not concerned.
"We knew before coming to Brazil that our most important game was against Nigeria and nothing has changed because we lost to Spain," he said.
The protests in Brazil show no signs of abating but Super Eagles boss Keshi has insisted the unrest in the Nigerian squad, regarding bonuses, is a thing of the past.
Defeat against La Celeste could test that harmony, much as a victory for the Super Eagles might just spell the beginning of the end for Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez.
El Maestro has come under fire for his faith in the old guard such as Forlan and skipper Diego Lugano which has, according to critics, contributed to Uruguay's stuttering World Cup qualification campaign. Defeat against Nigeria could bring about a raft of farewells - and not just to the Confederations Cup.
MATCH FACTS

Jon Obi Mikel has denied making comments about a move to Galatasaray attributed to him in Turkey.

shocked
How Ex-Nigerian Petroleum Minister, Dan Etete, Laundered Millions Of Dollars
Former Minister of Petroleum Dan Etete laundered hundreds of millions of dollars he extorted from oil companies in a complex web that took investigators years to untangle.

Saharareporters has obtained documents that reveal in painstaking detail how Mr. Etete and his main accomplice, Richard Granier-Deferre, executed a series of financial maneuvers that netted them hundreds of millions of dollars.

Mr. Etete began his extensive criminal enterprise shortly after the now deceased military dictator, General Sani Abacha, appointed him Minister of Petroleum on March 20, 1995. His activities as minister came into focus when President Olusegun Obasanjo assumed office and filed a complaint with international financial review agencies asking for help in tracing over $386 million that disappeared from the Central Bank of Nigeria from 1994 to 1998. The complaint also noted that another $800 million dollars was missing, with members of the Abacha family strongly believed to have profited from these funds.

In the course of the investigation, millions of dollars in Switzerland, France, Gibraltar and several other tax havens where the world’s biggest money launderers stash their loot were traced to Dan Etete. The investigators first discovered that ADDAX, a company based in the British Virgin Islands and managed by Richard Grainer-Deferre, was used to funnel 1.9 million British pounds sterling and $385 million dollars into bank accounts owned by General Abacha and members of his family. Further investigation linked Mr. Grainer-Deferre to accounts opened in Switzerland for Dan Etete and his brother, Bukazi Etete. Using “forensic” tools for detecting criminal movement of cash, investigators also uncovered other accounts that Richard Grainer-Deferre opened for Mr. Etete using the alias of Omoni Amafega for the former Petroleum minister.

Mr. Grainer-Deferre had founded ADDAX for the purpose of doing business with oil-producing countries. ADDAX then established numerous offshore subsidiaries in countries that had light tax burdens. Its representative in Nigeria, Mr. Jean-Pierre Decker, told investigators that when Dan Etete assumed office as the minister of petroleum, oil companies doing business in Nigeria were expected to give money to Mr. Etete in order for their business to thrive. “It was a generalized racket from which it was impossible to obtain a concession if this type of commission was not paid,” he said. “The company that paid the most commissions to the decision maker could find itself receiving the contract even though its offer was not objectively the best.”

Mr. Richard Granier-Deferre said his company paid Dan Etete over $10 million in hidden commissions to obtain petroleum contracts. “This was a general practice,” he stated.

Mr. Vermeulen, the director-general of ELF TOTAL FINA, Mr. Gavalda, director of ELF Africa, and Mr. Viaud, the director-general of ELF Nigeria all testified that their company paid $20 million to Dan Etete’s account in Credit Agricole Indosuez in Gibraltar in May of 1998 to renew four operating licenses.

“This payment of $20 million dollars was imposed on us by the Petroleum Minister,” said Mr. Vermeulen.

Mr. Gavalda said that ELF could not get around Mr. Etete’s blackmail schemes. “It was necessary to pay because our situation was becoming untenable,” he said.

In his testimony, Mr. Viaud said that Mr. Etete personally passed on the details of the bank account where the corporate bribes were paid into.

Mr. Grainer-Deferre used his contacts in banks in Geneva and Paris to open accounts for Dan Etete and the Abacha family. Also, when given instructions by Mr. Etete, he moved funds from one bank to another for the former minister. The primary route was first to Bukasi Etete, Dan Etete’s brother’s account in Switzerland. From there the money was moved to Omoni Amafegha’s account, which was Dan Etete’s alias.

Through these accounts, Mr. Grainer-Deferre managed oil companies’ bribe money for Dan Etete. With a power of attorney granted him, Mr. Grainer-Deferre moved money around for Dan Etete. He used part of the slush funds to buy real estate for Mr. Etete in France. He also purchased high-priced art and antiquities for the grasping former minister. As investigators began to close in on Dan Etete’s money in Switzerland and France, the former minister ordered his accomplice to move the money to accounts in Lebanon, Monaco and Gibraltar. When a particular bank refused to receive further funds from Nigeria in this manner, Mr. Grainer-Deferre approached another bank manager friend of his and opened another account. He used this maneuver when Banque Constant was facing international scrutiny triggered by money transfers for Dan Etete. Mr. Grainer-Deferre contacted a manager he knew at Banque Hoffman where he opened another account for his money-guzzling Nigerian principal.

In August 29, 1997, Banque Hoffman decided not to keep Dan Etete’s money any longer. Mr. Richard Grainer-Deferre contacted Mr. Bovay, a manager at Credit Agricole Indosuez Geneva, and opened an account in the name of Moncaster Associates of British Virgin Island with Omoni Amafegba (a mask for Mr. Dan Etete) as the sole beneficiary.

The money laundering circuit involved institutions or personalities from Nigeria, Switzerland, Gibraltar and Lebanon. Some of the origins of the funds transferred to these accounts could not be traced by investigators.

Between February 4, 1999 and May 30, 2001, over 96 withdrawal transactions were carried out in France by Dan Etete himself or Eric Ruellan or Marc Daubrey who worked for him. More than 109 million francs was taken out in 40 transactions. Marc Daubrey told investigators that he cashed checks needed by Dan Etete when he bought a town house in Neuilly sur Seiene and offices in Paris. Mr. Daubrey also used his personal account to transfer $25,000 when Dan Etete wanted to buy his Mercedes.

On March 15, 2000, Dan Etete bought a house in Boulay Morin, Eure, for 7.5 million francs and resold it on December 6, 2002 for 657,345 Euros. Dan Etete also purchased 6.3 million francs worth of furniture for his office at 11 Boulevard de la Tour Maubourg. He once owned two boats, the 14.33 meter twin-motor speedboat called the “N’Gozic” and the 27.40 meter-long “Spirit of Ashanti,” built in 1998.

On November 27, 2001, the Tracfin money laundering prevention department identified over 40 million francs in funding transferred to Mr. Etete between July 1999 and May 2000 by Banque de Gastion Privee Indosuez (BGPI), a subsidiary of Credit Agricole Indosuez.

On July 4, 2002, investigators searched the head office of Dan Etete’s private liability company, SARL on 11 Boulevard de la Tour Maubourg, Paris. Several documents were seized. Some of the documents showed that Dan Etete, alias Mr. Omoni Amafegha, owned real estate holdings worth over 50 million francs.
